I like that Nadia is very no nonsense as she looks back on her gymnastics career. She expected excellence from herself and she trained hard to achieve it. In a phrase, she held herself to a standard of perfection and it showed! Even in her commentary, she communicates with a sense of resolute urgency. There is no denying that she was set apart from all the rest; she possessed a special quality that combined power with poise; it was that executed elegance, that unparalleled (pardon the pun) exactness of movement that attracted us to her artistic magic! She captivated us all!

Yes, she will always be the Queen of gymnastics. She did that dangerous banned move on the uneven bars and she made it look so easy. If a gymnast did that today, they would be seriously hurt or killed. Olga Korbut was awesome too on the he balance beam. Both were amazing.
Nadia was my hero when I was a kid and even now. When I listened to some Spanish songs, I was curious what "nadie" meant. I knew it is not about Nadia, but it turned me into learning Spanish. Ahora lo sé que nadie significa, y me gusta "Nadie como Nadia".
Marbella Covarrubias with all the respect you deserve I would love to see a modern movie of what she did and of what she currently does. She is a beautiful, humble and successful human being. A true inspiration and not all the garbage I see in social media making thousands or even millions out zero talent. Kids need to see that there is so much to live than growing up to be a youtuber. Please no offense and thank you for the recommendation.
Only 14, Nadia Comaneci was not only the 1st ever Gymnast to be awarded a Perfect 10 which was awarded at Montreal Summer Olympics 1976, she also scored a Perfect 40 (40/ 40) in Uneven Bars (Compulsory routines Uneven Bars, Optional routines Uneven Bars, Uneven Bars All Around and Uneven Bars Event). Simply brilliant.
She got the first olympic 10 in history, the first was achieved by Vera Caslavska at Europeans and the second was scored by Nadia at the American Cup in 1976. Her Olympic first 10 was her second that year.
I will never forget that day here in the United States.. Watching on TV I had goosebumps and tears in my eyes.. I still get a warm feeling knowing I seen when she did it on live TV...
She has dual citizenship, actually. Nadia became a US citizen in 2001. That said, I'm pretty sure the original poster was meaning that THEY were in the US as he watched the 1976 Olympics on TV...not that Nadia was in the US (yet) or American (yet.)
“You made me feel like I could do anything too if I just worked hard enough” hit me hard. Watching the Olympic Games at 22 with no above-average talents made me feel like I wasted too much of my life to do anything notable. But watching this I was just filled with this sense/knowledge that with hard work and determination I can achieve huge things too :’)
You can! Kathryn Joosten didn't start acting until she was in her 40s and she won two emmys. Even in gymnastics which skews heavily young, the oldest woman competing at this year's games is 46. You're just beginning!
Omg I feel you, did I write this? Except that I'm almost 24 hahaha. That line really makes you think about your life and your non-existent talents or habilities. But we still young tho, we still can do something important in our lifes! 🤞
I love her in general but love her quote “Jump off the beam, Flip off the bars, Follow your dreams and reach for the stars”~NADIA COMMENCI. I always use that when someone asks my fav quote even for school on a quote project we had. I luv gymnastics I’m a gymnast but get hurt to much I fact they think I might have broken my foot so I can’t do gymnastics this year or even for the next 2 years I LOVE U NADIA

@@LaylaSwin-hi8tz Take a chill pill, girl. On her second Olympics (Moscow 1980), in which she won 2 gold medals (5th of her career), she was already 18. Do your research better and stop calling people names.
Gymnastics was so much more beautiful back then. I know the tumbling is much more difficult now but I was more impressed with the lines and the physical beauty of the old style.
i was thinking exactly the same thing. the gracefulness, form, movement and style back then is beautiful to behold, esp. in nadia's performance. she called it her nadia's touch, "more amplitude", she said.
Agree. Women’s gymnastics lost its elegance when it started to focus on more and more difficult tricks. The girls are not long, lean, balletic, and graceful. They’re built like fire hydrants and their routines consist of slapped together back to back tricks . It’s boring to watch
@@dc6354 So apart from being talented, women have to be beautiful too just to please people like you? It's a sport, not a beauty contest. Who cares if someone is ugly, if they're talented enough then they deserve to be allowed to compete. I'm sorry you feel that way and I hope you're able to change your mindset.
I was a small child when Nadia got a perfect 10 and I’ve never forgotten it. I think I was screaming at the TV and as many little girls at the time, I took classes and tried to become a gymnast but wasn’t very good. It is wonderful that she is still so incredibly humble about her accomplishments. Seeing her and Bart Connor end up together was just perfect and gymnastic royalty.
In my opinion, she is a shining example of the ultimate champion. I see her as the eternal darling of not only gymnastics, but The Olympics, both past, present and future. She possesses the quintessential athleticism, attitude, disposition, personality and temperment to be, as Plato describes in his teachings of the ultimate forms, the ultimate champion. So it's not only her perfect 10.0 performances in the 1976 Olympics that make her great, it is how she has carried herself throughout her life, as a Romanian and an American citizen. Nadia continues to score 10's as an inspirational human being; in how she touches everyone throughout the world and will continue to do so, for years and many generations to come.
Missditabomb Exactly what are you implying? How could she have done a lot in Romania when it was still a communist country?. I don't understand why you are upset with her.

When I think of gymnastics in the Olympics, I always think of Nadia Comaneci. Always will be the best Nadia Comaneci, forever, always a champion. 🤗❤️👏🏻👏🏻❤️❣️❤️❣️🙌🏼❣️❤️
I was 15 years old when I watched Nadia score her first perfect 10. She was absolutely the most graceful athlete I had ever seen. From that point on I was hooked on watching Gymnastics in the Olympics, which lead to watching Ice Skating. She is the only Olympian for which I never forgot her name, and often bragged to others, that I had never have seen a more perfect, more graceful illustration of incredible athleticism.
I love how Bart Conner talks about the athletes from his gym who have gone to college on scholarships. That, in and of itself, is worth so much more than one Olympian.
I remember watching her receive the Perfect 10 back in '76. Very impressive then and very impressive now. What a lady! The grace and especially the physical smoothness of her performances is still amazing to watch today... and I've seen a lot of gymnasts since then but none compare with the smoothness.
@@anisanurraudah8383 its when your head bends forward and is not straight over your spine. Most people have issues today due to having head down looking at phones and slouching while sitting
Some athletes inspire a generation, but Nadia had _and still has_ a positive impact on generations of gymnasts and ordinary people all around the world. So many little girls born in the late 70s, early 80s were named Nadia in her honor. And so many girls started gymnastics after 1976! I am from Montreal and the way she impacted our history is very special and hard to describe unless you lived it. Yes, she achieved something considered completely impossible, but it's so much more than that! It's almost as if she was an athlete from Montreal the way people are proud of her and love her here. I remember meeting her at the Olympic facilities where she received her perfect scores and I was completely amazed at her down-to-earth & humble attitude, gratitude and generosity. She's a true inspiration for everything she has achieved in 1976, but even more for the work she did since then.
This is why she is such a legend, she wasn't in it for the gold medals or the glory, it was just something that she naturally loved to do and had a natural affinity for.
This wonderful athlete just stole my heart....Her own clinic for under served children and elders. Such an important gift that goes far beyond her wonderful performances in gymnastics. And so lovely that she and her husband are passing on their talents to other kids...whether their goals are to go to the Olympics, or just learn how to follow direction, have respect for your teachers and co-students, or learn to do a cartwheel. Lovely video, thank you!
I was 16 and we all loved and idolized Olga Korbut and learned elements of her routines. She was phenomenal and legendary and made gymnastics what it is today. And Nadia took it to the next level of perfection and there will never be anyone who compares with either of them. And Nadia grew up to be such a beautiful woman, performer, wife and mother. She is such an inspiration and so sweet and humble with the willpower, focus and determination as a child to achieve the greatest things she can. She is a gift to the world
I glad that Nadia is doing so well. She deserves it; even more so considering that for a dozen plus years from 1977 to 1980 she was treated badly by the Romanian dictator and for a while after she defected. Nadia is a super star. Something about her performances are thrilling to watch more than any other gymnast. They are beautiful; sometimes the give me chills and other times bring tears to my eyes; emotions that are hard to describe. Nadia had success as an elite gymnasts and now she is successful as a wife, businesswoman, mother, and an one of the most outstanding citizens in two countries.
Simone is an absolute legend, I’ve met her on several occasions and she’s such a wonderful, well-rounded human being. Very kind and has a true humility about her.

When I was 10, I watched Nadia at the 1976 Olympics. I can only remember seeing her on the uneven bars for some reason. I admired her greatly. The last time I heard something about her was when she was married to a USA gymnast! I had no idea that Nadia Comaneci had started a Children’s Clinic for the poor in Romania! I had never heard most of the good things she has done that I found out about in this video. She strikes me as someone down to earth and even humble, especially given her fame. You were meant to fly, Nadia! And you did!! I remember as a young girl I watched you on tv, forgetting to breathe... then the whole family will jump up, screaming with joy! Even though I couldn't... I loved it, it was so much fun and something to dream off

Bless her beautiful heart. Nadia is doing some amazing work for her country. The hospitals for the children and the elderly will be really appreciated. I love it when people use their platform to help others who are not so fortunate. Nadia worked hard for everything she has too and that makes it all the more special.
All of us young girls back then in 1976 wanted to be like Nadia Comaneci. I remember the girls in my neighborhood getting together and pretending we were gymnasts at the Olympics and doing cartwheels and somersaults, back flips and routines. Lol Now I can barely get up off the floor.
I remember watching her when I was about 10. I fell in love with gymnastics and all I wanted was to be like Nadia. Unfortunately I wasn’t cut out to be a gymnast 😢but I did learn a lot about doing my best and challenging myself. I believe this gave me the determination and strength to succeed in my career and family. I hope Nadia knows what an amazing role model she was not only to me but to so many other girls back in the 70’s and 80’s. ❤
I love this gymnast. Nadia was my childhood hero, I wrote my grade 8 speech on her. She went through a lot. I heard there was a lot of government interference in her career between 1976 and 1980. I respect her strength, resilience and grace.
Watching the olympics when she was a child was awesome and she was not only a great athletic but also a great humanitarian. After realizing what she has done with her life, it is very inspirational. I do remember her husband as well. It's sad that, as an adult, she never felt safe in Romania. After the overthrow of the Ceausescu's, she was then able to go back and help out her homeland as well as the United States. Both, she and her husband, should be so proud of what they have accomplished.
She trained people in my home state, in Oklahoma. They tried recruiting me by age 8. The only reason we didn’t more forward was because I had a single mom and their training costs, despite being the best in the world and totally worth it, wasn’t doable for us. I ended up with a spinal injury anyways and couldn’t progress. It would have been an amazing experience just the same.
I'm such a fan of hers. I was born after she won her titles and I saw her performance on TV and knew that wow, this girl is one of a kind. She is truly gifted. This is what young girls should look up to. She even gives back to her home country. It was her destiny to be a champion
My aunt met her and Nadia was nice enough to take pictures and sign autographs. Nadia had traveled north to see some of the rowing events. My aunt got to do some of stats for the 84 Olympics.
Announcer: "Ladies and gentelmen, the first time in the history of this sport, a perfect 10!" *then the score pop ups* Nadia's teammates: "ahhhhh" *hugging Nadia* Meanwhile Nadia: 👁👄👁 wut?
Yeah. With the first 10, there was a bit of confusion and frustration for a while when the 1.00 appeared. My late mother was also a big fan of hers and there was a big, tight competition between her and the Russian girl. When 1.00 showed up, there was shock and you could hear the gasp of hundreds watching. Then, they explained that since a perfect 10.00 score was never expected, the scoreboard was missing a digit - but that Comaneci in fact scored a perfect 10.00 - a first in history! And the stadium erupted in cheer and applause!
Wow! And when she was in her 1st olympics she looks like emma watson... maybe thats why i like her so much is because she reminds me of those 2 beautiful women who i also love..

She was better. Mary Lou Retton did not even come close. There has never been one like Nadia since Nadia.
madyjules u wrote so much...... But I appreciate you for yr interests in sports👏👏👏

Beautifully put! Noroc!
She had such an opportunity to support and develope her country but gave it away or simply BETRAYED HER COUNTRY ESCAPING FROM THERE! The Romanian folk needed her so much during the hardest times but she betrayed them! You could have been the Angel FOR YOUR FOLK and would be treated like a queen there, living legend what is the Great Honour than counting the money earned from your school!! What a pity! Poor Nadia, who were you without the tremendous support of your Socialistic country getting evrth for free?! - NOBODY!! Not even mentioning her BETRAYER- TRAINER!
Nadia Comaneci:Her name will always be synonymous with perfection.
So True.
Yes, she will always be the Queen of gymnastics. She did that dangerous banned move on the uneven bars and she made it look so easy. If a gymnast did that today, they would be seriously hurt or killed. Olga Korbut was awesome too on the he balance beam. Both were amazing.
She's not only the most talented gymnast of all time but she's also very beautiful and elegant
Elle ne sera jamais dépassée. Par personne.

"Nadie como Nadia" or "Nobody like Nadia"that was the slogan on the Mexican press when she got the 10.

They need to make a movie about her life!! 😆😆
Diana Contreras There is a 1984 movie about her life
Marbella Covarrubias with all the respect you deserve I would love to see a modern movie of what she did and of what she currently does.

@@it2313 It was her fifth 10 that year. I saw her compete in Germany in March 1976, where she received a 10 on floor, beam and vault.

I will never forget that day here in the United States.. Watching on TV I had goosebumps and tears in my eyes.. I still get a warm feeling knowing I seen when she did it on live TV...
😂
She's Romanian we're proud of her
She has dual citizenship, actually. Nadia became a US citizen in 2001. That said, I'm pretty sure the original poster was meaning that THEY were in the US as he watched the 1976 Olympics on TV...not that Nadia was in the US (yet) or American (yet.)

"Your best at the right time is the definition of a champion" - Nadia
“You made me feel like I could do anything too if I just worked hard enough” hit me hard. Watching the Olympic Games at 22 with no above-average talents made me feel like I wasted too much of my life to do anything notable. But watching this I was just filled with this sense/knowledge that with hard work and determination I can achieve huge things too :’)
You can! Kathryn Joosten didn't start acting until she was in her 40s and she won two emmys. Even in gymnastics which skews heavily young, the oldest woman competing at this year's games is 46. You're just beginning!
@@niceandgloomy absolutely love and respect Oksana for competing at her age and showing everyone nothing is impossible

I love her in general but love her quote “Jump off the beam, Flip off the bars, Follow your dreams and reach for the stars”~NADIA COMMENCI.
That’s why I admire nastia’s routines. She retains the beauty and elegance of old gymnastics while incorporating the difficulty of modern gymnastics.
The equipment was not as good as it is now either
@@dc6354 So apart from being talented, women have to be beautiful too just to please people like you? It's a sport, not a beauty contest. Who cares if someone is ugly, if they're talented enough then they deserve to be allowed to compete. I'm sorry you feel that way and I hope you're able to change your mindset.
"It just happened" must be the biggest understatement ever. Complete humility.

Great story, glad to hear that she used her platform to still make a positive impact in both the US and Romania.

Exactly what are you implying?

I was 15 years old when I watched Nadia score her first perfect 10. She was absolutely the most graceful athlete I had ever seen. From that point on I was hooked on watching Gymnastics in the Olympics, which lead to watching Ice Skating. She is the only Olympian for which I never forgot her name, and often bragged to others, that I had never have seen a more perfect, more graceful illustration of incredible athleticism.
She's just so natural and doesn't put on airs at all. She is a very lovely woman.
What a perfect posture she has, the head, the jaw, the body. She has no head forward issues.
Stunning posture
Can you explain what is head forward issue is?
@@anisanurraudah8383 its when your head bends forward and is not straight over your spine. Most people have issues today due to having head down looking at phones and slouching while sitting

If ever you think of gymnastics you will always think of Nadia. She’s the Bruce Lee for Gymnastics.
J. Clowers That is an awesome comparison, I love it 😁
J. Clowers yes .
No, Nadia came from humble beginnings, unlike Lee who came from a wealthy privileged , wealthy family
Yes, and Olga Korbut is the Jackie Chan.
I agree with you
nadia is world's greatest female athlete
She's a true inspiration for everything she has achieved in 1976, but even more for the work she did since then.
considering there were 7 judges and all of them scored Nadia 10, that means she good..i mean really really good
This is why she is such a legend, she wasn't in it for the gold medals or the glory, it was just something that she naturally loved to do and had a natural affinity for.

I hope Nadia knows what an amazing role model she was not only to me but to so many other girls back in the 70’s and 80’s. ❤
No one can duplicate her . Not in this lifetime.

My aunt met her and Nadia was nice enough to take pictures and sign autographs. Nadia had traveled north to see some of the rowing events. My aunt got to do some of stats for the 84 Olympics.
Announcer: "Ladies and gentelmen, the first time in the history of this sport, a perfect 10!" *then the score pop ups*
Nadia's teammates: "ahhhhh" *hugging Nadia*
Meanwhile Nadia: 👁👄👁 wut?
and the score was: 1.00 !!!!!! because they couldn't display the ten!
I love watching that moment! Such a perfect score, no one had even thought it could be done! ❤️🤸♀️💖
