I love Westerns, The Big Valley, Gunsmoke, but Bonanza will always be my favorite and it's the first Western I grew up watching. Love the humor and the family like you said and the moral values Ben teaches.
Beatrice Kaye as Widow Hawkins is a total hoot--and no pushover. 🤣 Poor Ben, the more he tries to extricate himself from the widow, he just gets in deeper. Too funny.

PERSONALLY I loved how Adam as the oldest brother remained quiet as Ben was lecturing Hoss about making fun of him,but in the end he let Ben have it also showing he stands with his brothers
I love how out of sorts Ben is in this episode. He's usually so graceful and in control. Also, love the drawn out, "Yes, Sir" that Hoss says before Adam gives his epic line. Its as close as Hoss will get to having a tone with Ben in that scene. Everything about this episode is great.

Watched S1 S2 and now S3. Some episodes are a miss but most are quite entertaining for a TV show. What I really enjoy most about Banaza is the fact that it emulates humanity all the good and bad applicable in anytime period or place. And the morals and values human can or cannot embody to either live in harmony or demise. People like the Cartwrights only exist in TV movies and fairy tales but at least it gives humanity a sense of a better world we all can live in if we were more like the Cartwrights -- their honor humility and openmindedness.
I'm expecting that she just switched them when she sneezed because her circus background allowed her to smell the scam, but she still had to trust that there was one real gem. Let's see... When they talked about the river property, I wondered about flooding but didn't expect 6 feet deep! :D I should have foreseen Hoss picking up the 500 lb weight, but I didn't until he stood beside it. Perfect! :D I don't get the "trying to stop the appraiser" by stealing it. If she didn't know it was fake (or who stole it), she would send the law after them. They wasted an opportunity for a good scene of her explaining how she knew that it was a scam. Well, that quickly turned silly! I like how Ben won the shell game! A "two for one" punch. :D Someone had fun writing and choreographing this one! Ah, they saved her explanation for the end, but by then it was anti-climactic.

In the history of American television no other western ever topped Bonanza. I also feel, that remakes of old movies never live up to the original movies. For this reason when they tried to revive Bonanza with Michael Landon's son, as Little Joe, the show never had a chance.

They had a limited customs, the red blouse worn by the lady has been worn by different actresses in at list ten episodes that I recall. Guys also had two sets of cloths, one for formal parties, one for work.. they must have save a bundle on cost.
Yup, they did that on purpose to save on their budget. Though the guest actors/actresses were paid well. As viewers we just have to put up with the repeat customs, props, and film clips. (Actually, it's fun to try to remember which episode these things make repeat performances.) It's nice though to see the Cartwrights in a change of costume.
I watched the episode of the little blind girl that was on a quest to find h grandfather. WHAT PERSISTENCE! I was amazed that she could mend a hole in his shirt! I have GOOD eyesight and l have trouble getting the thread in the needle! I don't know if that's based on truth but it's possible.
Of all the criminals in the world I hate the most I hate Con Artists! So I enjoyed watching the Widow Clementine Hawkins out smart those two crooks and because of their own greed it helped them get captured.

Hmmm... Reno was founded in 1868. The land outside the dining room window of the Ponderosa house keeps changing. In previous episodes it was semi-desert. Actually, a lot of scenes are in semi-desert land not the Pine tree place. A lot of the dialog uses 20th century colloquialism, words or phrases not used in the 19th century, even less so in the Old West. Also, the men's haircuts are 60ish style, like with Little Joe and Adam; very common for Hollywood. Oh well... This episode was Ok, a little funny, I guess. Joan Staley in the role as a saloon hustler was great. A fascinating character. This could be an episode centering on her. Really fascinating character. Parts of the episode had a comedy silent movie feel. A lot of sight gags, like Hoss going under the horse tie instead of around it. Actress Beatrice Kay looking at the camera, Oliver Hardy style. That was interesting.
I am telling you now Hop sing is so spoiled if you watch closely when Hoss said she the best dang cook around he getting ready to take the food the brought in back out till Hoss expect for hop sing then he puts the food down but he was getting ready to take the food out he acts like he is the only one who can cook for the family
