The two guys told me they were students at a Christian college and were taken classes in hopes of becoming missionaries. I gave them a ride 1.5 hours out of my way and I was so low on gas coming back I think I made it on fumes and I had no money. I hope those two guys who are men now made a difference in the world. I also hitchhiked once and it was a guy and his wife who were super cool and then I accepted a ride from a guy in a truck who turned out to be a preacher LOL he played Christian music and talked to me about God. I guess I had a angel looking over me when I was younger.

What sort of person enjoys rubbing salt in the wounds of folks that are already hurting??

He was a petty thief and ex-con, but had never been trigger-happy until he hooked up with Elliott. Few people in Newcomerstown liked Gilbert, and few were surprised when he was arrested after his killing spree. They speculated that Elliott tolerated Gilbert because he could buy alcohol. It all started the day Gilbert was released from an Ohio prison for stealing a boat. For some reason, they decided to steal a car and it was all downhill from there. Their first victim was 79-year-old Ruth Lucille Loader of Newcomerstown, who had the car the two men needed to get out of town. Gilbert admitted later on that he shot and killed the 82-pound cancer survivor, whose body was never found despite a massive search by friends and the law enforcement community. Lucy and her late husband had lived in the 12-room farm house on the outskirts of Newcomerstown for more than 50 years and had raised four children there. Her Buick turned up two weeks later, stuck in the mud in Calloway County, Missouri. Like so many other killers, they had followed America’s sewer pipe - I-70 - westward, stopping to wreak havoc and bringing senseless death along for the ride. Elliott and Gilbert abandoned Lucy’s Buick and started walking, eventually stopping at the home of William F. Brewer, age 86, and Flossie Mae Brewer, age 75. After talking with the couple for a half-hour, they forced the couple into the basement of their farmhouse, shot both of them three times in the head, and stole their car, cash, and rifles. The murderers left behind the children of the Brewers, who wondered why two able-bodied young men had to kill when it was just as easy to steal from the elderly couple. William’s cane was found next to his body. A walker was waiting upstairs where he left it. Flossie’s hands had been tied with a phone cord. “They had no reason for what they done,” the son who discovered his parents dead in their basement told a reporter. “It was just plain orneriness. They just had no pity.” With California as their goal, the killers headed out again, turning south toward Oklahoma and another date with death. They ended up at Lake Stanley Draper near Norman, Oklahoma where they met Roxy Lynn Ruddell, a 37-year-old unarmed security guard who watched over a marina and whose job perks included all the fishing she wanted to do. She had been married a little over two years when she was murdered, and was working the night-time security guard job to help realize a lifelong dream. Roxy wanted to own a horse ranch one day, and she had a pickup truck the killers wanted. They took it and kidnapped her as they continued their spree. She was shot and her body was dumped a short time later. A motocross rider waiting for his friends to catch up with him found Roxy’s body alongside a trail near the lake. After finding the body, the bikers headed toward the ranger station, but the Brewers’ abandoned car blocked the trail’s exit. Gilbert and Elliott were headed further west with police from three states now on their trail. Two days after Roxy was killed, Gilbert and Elliott were sleeping in a culvert outside Santa Fe, N.M., when state police acting on a tip found them. Two rifles, a shotgun and a pistol were found at their campsite. Family, friends and police from Ohio, Missouri and Oklahoma all wanted a piece of the pair. If it was up to Elliott and Gilbert, they would have opted to head back to Ohio, where they had the best chance of staying alive. In the end, Oklahoma got the first shot at them. These animals couldn't even tell the poor victims family members where their loved ones body was. They weren't even able to have closure or a proper burial for this poor women. This goes beyond evil.
The investigators and the FBI are doing a great job to bring these criminals to pay for their crimes and also for the family of the victims to get justice, but what is frustrating about all your efforts, the judges and the juries don't treat the case with seriousness, by giving priveledges to criminals to do the worst by giving them a short term to spend for their crime.
Authorities didn’t bother to check the nearest house right away after finding Mrs. Loder’s car in a field? Apparently, though, it wouldn’t have been soon enough for the Brewers. They are careful to say there was no evidence the killer spent any significant time in their house, to avoid the possible implication they might have caught them right there.
I agree. I've noticed on other episodes they tactfully skirt around incidents where the police have dropped the ball, or didn't pick it up at all for far too long.

I live in the county where this started. I find it appalling that they couldn't try these two for Mrs. Loader's murder just because they didn't have a body. Thank God that ridiculous law has been worked around for more recent cases.
What I found to be strange, was that they towed Mrs. Loader's car to the Police Station not knowing whether she was deceased in the trunk, or injured and unconscious. Unfortunately the human brain is not fully developed until age 25. In addition adolescents and children are often impulsive and lack the capacity to anticipate consequences. Add to that any history of head injury which often leads to impulse and anger control issues, you have a recipe for disaster.

I am always so touched when communities immediately come together to search for people who are at risk, when someone is abducted or missing. There truly are more good people in this world than monsters. The outcome in this particular case was horrible, but it still warms my heart that a community dropped everything to search for an elderly, vulnerable woman who could have been the mother or grandmother of any of us. While I despise the fact that monsters walk amongst us, I still try to focus on the positive. I don't know what causes kids to go off the rails like this, but maybe we could all be better neighbors and reach out to one another and perhaps we could keep a better eye on each other's children and prevent evil from fomenting in the youth of this country. I think it's worth a try, anyway.

In USA, they will not look for a missing person until it has been 24 hours that theyve been missing. The family called police until he was missing 3 days. This is wierd because if youre a minor, theyll start searching asap.
18:10 this had nothing to do with strangers. "Stranger danger" is 1 of the biggest American myths. You're FAR more likely to be murdered by a relation, friend or acquaintance, and locking doors won't keep THEM out
@@truth4004 And people look at me and assume there's something wrong with me for being anti-social. In my opinion (which these shows all seem to back up more and more) the more people you know and interact with, the more likely you are to interact with the wrong people and the more likely you are to be murdered over something stupid. SO I choose to stay to myself as MUCH AS POSSIBLE. Outside of family I only have a very SMALL number of people I have any routine interaction with on a daily or weekly basis. Why did the parent wait three days to report their 16 year old missing? If my 26 year old’s whereabouts were unknown, I would have called immediately. This might have turned out differently if they had.
Kind of like the Wahington snipers and the Columbine killers. It's the meeting of the two individusls that creates the chaos. Bonnie and Clyde were like that.

That's the difference between sociopaths and us their not able to even show a shred of empathy and compassion it's impossible for them to feel love that can try and make it seem like they're empathetic but that just comes with practice and being able to compartmentalize a lot better than we do
So when they found the Missouri car and the poor dead young woman, of course they went immediately to all the neighbors and checked on them? No? Shocker.
Hopefully there's more awareness now with the abundance of criminal psychology docs on serial killers , that psychopaths can't be rehabilitated . There have also been a few US studies on Serial Killers & their backgrounds which have found common childhood themes: 96% of serial killers on Death Row have experienced abuse, mental health issues & a head injury resulting in personality change .(frontal lobe controls empathy & impulse control).
It's really sad because back when there were institutions for people like them, they would lock away ANYONE who had even the slightest disability and as a result there were so many people in those places who didn't legit need to be there and because of that so many of the ones who ABSOLUTELY needed that type of controlled environment remained on the streets because there was no room for them.

@@jimfoster7986 the fact that you found a way to politicize this amazes me. But since you’ve gone there already, let’s clear this up. The opposition of the death penalty is not to be “soft on crime” or let murderers get away like many conservatives make it out to be. It’s because the justice system doesn’t convict the correct people 100% of the time, and you can’t take back killing someone even if evidence is later presented to prove them innocent. In addition to this, people of color have disproportionately received the death penalty, and because of that, many believe it to be inequitable. As someone who is pretty far left, I support the death penalty in cases where there is indisputable evidence that someone has committed a truly despicable act. But don’t act like an entire side of the political spectrum wants people like Lewis Gabriel to walk free or whatever else fits your political narrative.

Those two savages could've also drunkenly dumped her in some random area between Ohio and Missouri and truly not know where. A lot of folks around here are still upset that Eric Elliott won't help recover her body.
This is the most slow, repetitive crime documentary I have ever watched. All the cliches are here- ‘crime doesn’t happen in this community’, and ‘no one ever locked their doors’ blah blah blah drivel. The only stereotype missing was the ‘cheerleader, girl-next-door’ BS.
All of them were good people. They wanted to help these bastards. And what they got in return is so horrible. The worst thing you can do is murder someone. Especially if it is for no reason what so ever. They could have stolen the cars and let the people live. The murders were absolutely unnecessary. It is good to know these two cannot harm anyone else. I wish the families strength and courage. It is hard to live through a murder of a loved one. I really hope they will find the other victim too. Maybe, one day, the victim will be found and the family can finally say their goodbyes.

If they thought that she could be alive in the trunk, why wouldn't they open it immediately? (outside of destroying evidence) but still they could have found out for sure before they towed it.

You're FAR more likely to be murdered by a relation, friend or acquaintance, and locking doors won't keep THEM out
But in this case it was all strangers. Strangers will kill you too. Can't trust anyone.
That's the difference between sociopaths and us their not able to even show a shred of empathy and compassion it's impossible for them to feel love that can try and make it seem like they're empathetic but that just comes with practice and being able to compartmentalize a lot better than we do
It is really unfortunate that two serial killer-psycopath met and began a killing spree in various states...
@@angeldougan9334 Actually, in the 1980s, in America, the idiotic Reagan administration made the decision to close all of the mental institutions and state hospitals. @Rebecca Farley Well said!
As someone that lives in Ohio I can confirm that this has happened 420 times in the past year
