Saw this in the theater when was I 3 years old. Pop had no clue about ratings and he loved John Belushi so off we went. I swear there are scenes that they have taken out of the retail copies. What a great film.
What a great time it was. There were so many great movies to choose from. In those days, I saw more good movies in one year than I've seen in the last 15 years. And that's a fact !
Brilliant film in every way. One of the genius moves was they scored this with a serious soundtrack, not a comedic one. That adds immensely to the end result.
@@monorail4252, lol. There's no way in the world they'd make Blazing Saddles today. I went to a school that was 99% black, we all laughed at how funny that movie was. It made way more fun of white people than it did of any race. In fact, that's who it made fun of the most, I've never understood why people don't get that these days.
@marcusaurelius8717 exactly we still laugh at Blazing Saddles today. It hasn't been "canceled", removed from viewing, taken out of circulation, they have censored some scenes but it is still viewable and could be made.
@marcusaurelius8717 the only reason blazing saddles couldn't be made today is because the GOP would be offended if they ever learned they were being made fun of.
One of, if not the best, movies of all time. I saw it when I was 15. The chick at the ticket booth was known as being very strict on ID’s so I talked my dad into taking me to see it. At the very last moment my mom decided she wanted to go. We had just moved to a house in the middle of nowhere and she didn’t want to be there by herself. There was no way for me to convince my mom not to go. My dad knew something was up with an R rating, but my mom had no idea what was up. We let her believe it was just another innocuous movie. She never knew or asked about the rating. She said nothing until the pillow fight scene with the topless sorority sisters when she stood up and said very loudly “ this isn’t a Disney movie!” My dad lost it and I was absolutely slayed! She never lived that one down. One of my most fondest memories of my mom. Sure do miss her.
Hey the actor that has the helmet on it says a pledge pin on your uniform . He played the dad in the Twisted Sister's video. We're not gonna take it anymore
I've always wanted to become a manager so I could go into a meeting on Monday morning and say to the assembled employees, "You're all worthless and weak. Now drop and give me twenty!" just to see how may people would get the reference. Probably the reason I never became a manager, now that I think about it....
and Blutto would tell you, 'don't think about it. here, have a beer". Even if fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go thru life, son. which is a line I HAVE used in the workplace. more than once, in fact, but it was needed.
A few fellow correction officers told our Chief (Director of Custody Operations-Deputy Warden) that he was worthless and weak. We also called him a punk and a phony.
Not always. Fun fact: the cast was actually beaten up by members of a fraternity in real life while attending a party at the college where the film was shot.
"It's time for someone to put their foot down...and that foot is me!" I got to tell my kids this line when discipline was needed, then got to educate them on the movie. Ah, to be a dad...

I just noticed the following at 4:25: the phrase "Ars Gratia Artis" is underneath the Delta's logo -- that's the motto of MGM that's posted right above the roaring lion -- it's Latin for "Art For Art's Sake". 😲
They needed a big name and Sutherland agreed to the role. At the time, he was the only star. Furthermore, Sutherland, offered a 2% of royalties, turned THAT down for his Universal card carrying member union " daily rate". A decision he regretted as the Box Office receipts would have given him millions. He laughed about it and was completely okay as most well-adjusted folks can do. Meanwhile, the character Dorfman, secured and landed his role by a creative method. Looking for acting work in LA while delivering pizzas, he put his photo on all the pizza boxes he delivered. It worked. They saw that face and he got the role.
I’m 80 years old and three things I remember about 1978 was 1) jimmy Carter was the president and he was a disaster! I never voted For a Democrat again! 2) the Dallas Cowboys won the Super Bowl! And 3) Animal house was a box office success! Great laughs!
In retrospect, Carter wasn't that bad, circumstances and his attitude of Christian acceptance made him a target for RepubliCon operators who smeared him. That led to 12 years of RepubliCon malfeasance and incompetence that our country still hasn't recovered from.
