- On Tuesday 3rd March 1998 at 9:30pm, Stephen McClean und Noel McCready, members of the LVF burst into The Railway bar in Poyntzpass, County Armagh, and murdered long-life friends Philip Allen and Damien Trainor.
25 years later, Brian Canavan, owner of the pub reflects on the two minutes that shattered this small rural unsuspecting village.
I remember when this happened. I used to buy the Los Angeles times every Sunday for the crossword puzzle, and there was an article about the Poyntzpass shooting. My Grandma was from Poyntzpass and her uncle Michael Canavan owned the Railway Bar. She went to the USA in the 1920s. It's amazing and heart rending to see my relatives and to feel their pain from so many years and miles away. God bless you Brian Canavan and family, My grandma died in her 90s just before this happened thank God. Her Catholic mother had friends who were orange and there wasn't any trouble in Poyntzpass back then in the 1920s. By
Hoe ye got in touch
If we don't unite the island and close our open boarders there will be little of either one of our cultures. Nationalistic or unionist.
Fantastic interview about a very sad period.
Brilliant documentary thanks for posting
Best interview on the murders to date. Thank you for sharing this.
Best documentary i have seen yet about this murder, 11:20 in the background there is a silver Toyota Twincam, XIB 3771 it think is the registration, i always wondered did it belong to Phillip or Damien as it was parked outside the pub, i had one myself at that time and this double murder really shook the country bad when two friends from both sides of the community were murdered.
A lovely guy, humble , no bitterness shown , God Bless 🙏
The Good Friday agreement let the gun men out of jail few months later.. worst thing ever
Very good interview to a shocking crime
Well we would know why there was no road blocks.
Where’s terrible Trimble now 😂
MI5 agents !!
Don't be silly
@@captainchaos3053 yeah because that's totally outside realms of possibility?!
@@deanodog3667 Yes totally outside the realms of reality.
Yeah they'd never be capable of such an act
@@deanodog3667 It's not a mater of capability. It's the reality of what happened and how. The liklihood of MI5 conducting such action in that part of the world in that time period are next to laughable. What makes you think it would be MI5?
The production team who got this man to do the program must have been rubbing their hands - its this strange situation of him being involved in an event that could have been a joyfully filled one or what it was which was a mass murder probably involving state acters - but hes buzzing to be involved all the same - cant keep his mouth shut - weird
