Hi Terry. I hope you had a merry Christmas and a happy new year! Surely you've been busy with family and holiday stuff. But I will be patiently waiting for the release of your next instructional video. I hope that you experienced an increase in soap sales due to the Christmas season. I just rewatched this video for inspiration. I enjoy watching you use your palette and palette knife to mix your micas above seeing you mix colors in the plastic bags. It's more "chic" when you bring your art skills and implements to bear. I had so much fun giving away my homemade soap as Christmas gifts to my neighbors and relatives! I actually got some positive feedback and requests for more soap! Up till now I've been using 2lb soap molds, but it looks like I'm going to have to acquire a larger mold. What new ideas do you have planned for 2020? Will you make larger batch sizes? Do you have any new designs planned? Will you increase production? Other than goats milk, will you incorporate any other organic ingredients into your soap recipes? Making soap is the most fun I've ever had learning something new! I hope your sales increase exponentially in 2020! God bless you, Victor PS: I have not yet used the three bars of soap I purchased from you in November, nor do I plan to use them. They are still in their original boxes on a shelf in my linen closet. To me they are works of art. I just cannot bring myself to showering with them.
I made this soap today! Thank you for being thorough and I enjoyed it very much. The colors came out really nice. I'll cut it in a couple of days. You are amazing, and I thank you so very much!
Thank you! I am a little out of my comfort zone, narrating these videos, but I want to share what I have learned. Thank you for following my journey! 😘💕
I just discovered your videos and I'm binge-watching. Using the palette to mix colours is a better way, because you're not using plastic bags that you throw away after one use. I enjoy watching and listening, I can see such improvements from video to video as you gain more experience and confidence as a youtuber. Great work, I hope you feel very proud!
I know, I definitely prefer the palette knife. 👍 I am not a natural speaker at all, so this is a little out of my comfort zone, but I want to teach. I offer what I can; I know I do it a little different than most. I am a perfectionist, so believe me, I am my own worst critic and know there's lots of room for improvement. Thank so much for your genuine comment and your kind words. 😊
Tree Marie Soapworks improvement is such a harsh word that adds pressure. Think of it as evolution. That comes naturally, over time. Look at the comments, everyone is very excited and happy with your work.
Thank you Patrick! The stick blender is very heavy duty. I love it! (I am not making any money for recommending it. It is just what I use.) I would say you get what you pay for in this instance.
You added clay to each batter. Is there any particular reason? Clays tend to make soap batter thicken up quickly. That's why you added clay? By the way your videos are really helpful. 😍
Hi Marie, by waiting 15 minutes between the first and second layer, do the components of the following layers not go below the soaping reaction temperature?
I haven’t tried the pencil line technique yet but on another video I was watching she sprayed isopropyl alcohol on top the mica to make the layers stick together better
Thank you for another great video. I notice you add kaolin clay to all your recipes and wonder if you do that simply for the skin benefits or if there are other reasons that you are a fan. Does it accelerate trace?
Hopefully you’ll respond since this is a few months old but I like the bag method you use for colourant. Where did you get the little squeeze bottle you use to add the oil. It seems so convenient especially when getting that base oil measurement just right?
What was the purpose of the kaolin clay? Was it possible to add it to the oil in the beginning? Your work is so inspiring! I'd love to see easier creations since this is advanced for me. But these are beautiful to watch :-)
I use it in layer soap to help the layers set up, but it is wonderful in soap. In cured soap it helps with lather. I don't add it in the beginning, because it is a little heavy. It sinks to the bottom, so it is hard to divide it evenly. I do hope to make some simpler videos. Stay tuned, Keren. 💖
Hello! I absolutely love your videos!!! Your technics are really awsome! Thank You so much! I have just one question, I heard that titanium (to make white soap) is a nanoparticule - and that is not good to put this on ours bodys. Can I use something else, more natural, to replace titanium..? Thank You :-)
It's titanium dioxide, not titanium. It has the word in it only because titanium particles are in the chemical makeup. It's like calling water (hydrogen dioxide) hydrogen, it's not the same thing at all and it's a totally different and safer chemical compound. Titanium dioxide is so safe it can be put into food, but of course it has to be food grade TD to do that.
It's not a set amount. I hydrate it just enough to wet it, so it's not gloppy. (Keep in mind that your water amount doesn't affect the lye calculations. That amount only uses the oils/butter to calculate the lye amount.) Note that I use 25% water as a percent of oil weight to figure the water. Adding a little extra water won't matter because the water has already been discounted.
Love you videos! I want to ask you or any soapers that want to pitch in 😊.. when I do mica lines on my cp soap, it ends up separating 😢 I've tried using less water or even sprayed with alcohol but still.. I just can't seem to get a nice thick line.
The only thing I can think of is that your mica line is too thick? Do you blow off the excess? How long do you wait between layers? I don't ever use alcohol. Have you tried a powder sprayer? I use it in my other layer video. These work great with really fine mica/activated charcoal. Good luck. Hope you can figure it out. 💖✨
@@TreeMarieSoapworks Thank you for replying! I don't wait long at all between the layers. Maybe i should?? And yes i recently got a sprayer but haven't tried it yet. Deff will be giving these a try! Thanks again!
I don't think you should wait longer. I think if they are coming apart it would be due to too much mica, I haven't ever had that problem. I always blow off any excess. You want the mica to look wet.
I just found your channel and have really been enjoying it. I appreciate your tips and 'things I learned' - it is very helpful. Is there a reason you don't add your titanium dioxide and kaolin clay to the whole batch before splitting into thirds? And maybe the fragrance if you know it doesn't accelerate? Feels like it would save steps. Beautiful soap!
Thank you, Donna! I do sometimes add my fragrance to my oils, in this case, I was worried about acceleration. I used different amounts of TD, so I added it later. The Kaolin Clay likes to settle on the bottom, I wanted equally amounts, so I added it separately. I don't do it the same every time. Just find what works for you and run with it. 😊💕
I have never had problems with the layers breaking apart, but other people have. I think it would happen because of too much mica between layers. The mica shouldn't look dry. That's why it is good to blow off the excess. 😊
Teri, thank you very much for your great videos. I am getting much more confident that I can do this. I have a question - I noticed you split your lye and oils into the number of layers you will be making and then mix the soap batter before each layer. That would solve most of the problems I have had trying to make layers. Do you try to keep the oils and lye warm while you are waiting to mix the next layer? Or possibly reheat them? Thanks so much, Tresa Marie (called Tree in high school many years ago)
I usually just cover them, but I don't bother to reheat them unless it has taken a long time for the previous layer to set up. I use a fragrance oil that accelerates a bit when I make layer soaps. That way, by the time I pour the first layer and mix up the next, the first layer is set and ready to receive the next layer.
I follow you big time and I LOVE your soaps, your videos and your gentle tone -- esp in the last 3 weeks!! But I have to say I don't like seeing you use plastic bags to mix colorants. Use paper cups or reusable plastic cups. :)
Thank you, Rachael. No problem, I don't use this way anymore. I use the palette knife and Plexiglas to mix my colors now. Mixing in cups doesn't work for the tricky colorants like oxides, ultramarines, and neons. They tend to clump and cause specks. It is fine for micas thorough.

is it possible to use cinnamon to make a layer instead of gold rush mica ?
thanks in advance for your reply ....
Thanks for the great video! What temps were your oils and lye for this?
Is this mandatory to use Kaolin clay? What if v don't mix it into the oils?
Hi Marie, by waiting 15 minutes between the first and second layer, do the components of the following layers not go below the soaping reaction temperature?
I haven’t tried the pencil line technique yet but on another video I was watching she sprayed isopropyl alcohol on top the mica to make the layers stick together better
Fantastic! At what temperatures do you keep the ingredients? Are they cold ?
I soap at 85 to 95 degrees F or 29 to 35 degrees C. Ingredients need to stay cool during storage.
Thank you for another great video. I notice you add kaolin clay to all your recipes and wonder if you do that simply for the skin benefits or if there are other reasons that you are a fan. Does it accelerate trace?
I only use kaolin clay in the layered soaps, so they set up a little faster, so yes, it causes acceleration. Happy Thanksgiving, Marie! 🍂😊💕

Hi Gina, I got the squeeze bottles at Amazon, but people have said that you can get them at the tye-dye section of Walmart or a craft store.

How do you keep the soap from separating at the mica layers? Mine kept separating. I used the same amount of mica.
Blow off any excess mica. The mica must look wet, or the next layer will not stick.
I know it’s old but please why do you use kaolin clay?
It helps the layers set up, and I love the feel of clay in a bar. All my favorite bars have clay in them.
Hi can you pls share the specifications of the molds used thanku
I used this mold. www.wholesalesuppliesplus.com/products/tall-skinny-loaf-silicone-soap-mold.aspx
How much time lapsed between each layer?
It was around 15 minutes. It depends on the fragrance you use. I try to use fragrances that accelerate slightly for layer soaps. It works to your advantage. Also I use kaolin clay @ 1 tsp PPO to help it set up a bit.
Do u spray alcohol on top of each layer
No, that only works with Melt & Pour. Just make sure your blow of the excess mica.
