    Can I know the ratio for the oil and colors? Is the oil from the recipe or excluded?

    • @TreeMarieSoapworks
      @TreeMarieSoapworks  3 роки тому

      I use enough olive oil to dilute the colorant. Others use a 1 to 3 ratio, but I find that much is not needed in most cases. I do use a 1 to 3 rate when I make up my TD mixture. I don't usually use batch oils. It is not enough to worry about. It just adds to the super fat.

    • @TreeMarieSoapworks
      @TreeMarieSoapworks  4 роки тому

      Yes, of course, you don't have to force gel. I want my soap to go through gel, and I don't like it when it partially gels. When you use less water as I do, it is hard for the soap to complete gel, and that is why I add extra heat to give it a little nudge to finish gelling.

    If I wanted to use sodium lactate, do I have to figure that into my recipe and percentages or can I just use it? I am already discounting 5% for super fat, so I would I calculate that into my lye?

    • @TreeMarieSoapworks
      @TreeMarieSoapworks  4 роки тому

      No, that is not figured into the recipe. It is an additive. If you are using soapcalc.net, it is super easy to figure out. It states your amounts in pounds, ounces, and grams. Look at the amount of oils in the pounds column. That is your SL amount in tsp. Most of my recipes are made in the 10 inch mold from BB. I use 33.5 oz of oils. That is 2.094 lbs of oils, so I use 2 tsp of SL.

    Hi Marie, your soap is really beautiful ❤. I hope I can make a beautiful soap too because when I tried to make it, my soap froze really quickly after I added the fragnance oil so I couldn't pour it into the mold or form it at all. First, I mixed the oil with lye, and then added the color powder and last I added the fragnance. Was it right or wrong step? I hope you can give an explanation or tips about this case. Thank you (sorry for my bad english) 😊

    • @TreeMarieSoapworks
      @TreeMarieSoapworks  5 років тому +1

      Sometimes fragrance shocks the batter when added. If the fragrance is known to accelerate, you can dilute it with some batch oils, also your temperatures should all be close to the same so it's not such a shock to the mixture. I soap between the temperatures of 85-95 °F. You can soap cooler than that, but I wouldn't soap warmer. I hope this helps. Your English is fine. 😊🌸💕

      Thank you so much! It is from Bramble Berry, but they don't sell it anymore. Maybe something like this would work. www.amazon.com/Silicone-Squeegees-Countertops-Bathroom-Honla/dp/B06XWY8XYL/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=small+squeegee+silicone&qid=1553443776&s=gateway&sr=8-3

    just clarifying, you added the colorants and fragrance to the oils before the lye solution - is there a reason for that?

    • @TreeMarieSoapworks
      @TreeMarieSoapworks  5 років тому +1

      I don't usually do that, but since I was only using one color, and the ultramarine could use a bit more stick blending. It is notorious for specks. I didn't want to do all that stick blending after the lye solution was added.
      I add the fragrance to the oils if I trust it to behave.

    Yes I do which is why I actively check what i use, none of which has palm oil in it. I find it hidden in food sometimes though.

    Hey Hi!! What an amazing video. I loved your work and the cleanliness. Can you please tell me from where did you buy your soap may tray and the green spatula?? Please😊

      Hello, thank you so much! I bought the silicone liner and the green spatula from Bramble Berry. But I believe the spatula is discontinued. Here is the link to the mold liner: www.brambleberry.com/shop-by-product/molds/silicone/silicone-liner-for-18-bar-mold/V000706.html#q=18&lang=default&start=1

    Great video.
    I subscribed, as I love watching creative people.
    I can’t not mention that Pam Oil, affects our environment, tho.
    Have you found a substitute?

      Thank you Ritchie! This Palm Oil is certified sustainable and responsible sourced from only members of the Round Table on Sustainable Palm Oil. I don't use it in all my recipes. I will be experimenting with substitutes. 😊

    Is there somewhere I can download the whole recipe from. I know this is advanced.i am just starting out on my soap making journey. Is there a base recipe which makes a rich and well lathered soap that I can use whilst I experiment with colours and fragrances? Not too many different oils and ingredients? I would really appreciate your help.

      I do freelance work for Elements Bath and Body. There is a Basic Cold Process tutorial and recipe there. It's a lovely bar. The tutorial is step by step with photos. This may help you. 💕 www.elementsbathandbody.com/Soap/
