- We caught up with KVD just before his crankbait-driven tournament win at Toledo Bend to learn more about the mechanics of his crankbait system. The backbone of it all are his Quantum Tour KVD Crankin Rods (goo.gl/RjVIO9), which have custom engineered materials and actions to deliver casting distance, power, and critical lure response. His Tour KVD 150 casting reel cgoo.gl/9tZaAu) has a wider spool to accommodate more line for better casting distance and line pickup. Who else would like to see them just start selling the crank baits with the better hooks already on them? I know they want to profit from the extra sell, but the old hooks are simply discarded in most cases. Its a waste pure and simple. Good video though, KVD is a Boss!
the prices of the baits would sky rocket
I disagree, they may be priced a bit higher in price but, I would gladly pay a bit more in price and save time to fish more on the water.

There is no way they would be more than buying the bait, buying owner stingers or triple grips, then going through the process of changing them out, and basically throwing the old hooks away. C'mon man, I would gladly pay a couple bucks more to do that. and if you are buying owners for basically $1 extra per hook right now after production, you would surely save 50% of that in pre production. I own a business, I know firsthand! LOL

Went to Academy Sports Warehouse. Got about $ 90.00 worth of lures today. Soft baits and Hard tackle cranks. Found one Quantum ACCURIST PT S3 in green color. Not many Quantum reels. Every maker of rod's. Some combos too.
Great prices! You can get great tackle prices at Wal-Mart. My fishing buddy got a Lew's Infinity rod and reel combo for $89.00. Ordered it on line. Then picked it up. Orange and White with Winn grips. The reel is 7 to 5 to 1. Very nice combo. Shawn

I switched to a 7’ glass rod and 4.7:1 reel years ago and catch probably 3-4x as many bass when cranking as I used to. Exception is lipless cranks, which are 7’ glass and 6.4:1 reel.

I'm just gonna say KVD and Rick Clunn are both amazing fisherman but they're lucky Jordan Lee and Jacob Wheeler weren't around back in the day.
Those rods as amazing for cranking but absolutely outstanding for buzzbaits and sprinkler frogs.

Right? I don't personally grab KVD baits from Tackle Warehouse or where ever I am shopping because I have a personal preference on baits but I will say that they work wonders and KVD himself is one of the best in the sport.

you can't argue with success and he has already won over two million dollars not to mention all of the products that he has his name on, so just for me I think that I will trust what he says and not listen to a bunch of armchair fishermen
Thanks Michael, all of the Wired2Fish staff have shared the boat with this animal and what he says is legit. He does what he says in these videos and as you mention, who can argue with that level of success. He's a true professional.

Multiple colored 6xds and I for sure know that he mostly used sexy blue back herring on his 10xds but watch the video from his 2016 win to see more and he used a homemade hair jig

I use 7’ medium glass. Works perfect imo. 6.4:1 - 7.1:1 reel to keep them off the bottom.
you'll want something faster than 5.3:1 reel ... lipless sink fast!

Hi Greg, I don't think KVD thinks that. He was just sharing his cranking system that he's developed with Quantum and won a ton of money on. You can use any number of other reels with equal success cranking. There's some good takeaways in this video regardless of make/model of rod or reel used.
wellll, I think he'd kinda suggesting that. ;) I'm sure there's a number of reels that would give him the same result with that rod. Nonetheless, yes, some good info here. :)

I used this method 2 weeks ago here in Texas it works it really does me and my buddy put 10 bass in the cooler in 3 hours the smallest was 4 pounds on digital scales the biggest was 11 pounds and fool of eggs...we had one hell of a fish fry...yum

does anyone use kvd crank bait rods for spinnerbait fishing and does it performs well? I have it in medium heavy
It'll prolly work well, both crankbait rods and spinnerbait rods need a soft tip and a solid backbone

Really any medium power rod is going to perform well. As far as the action on a composite rod I honestly believe its negligible. If I was throwing like a 10XD I would step up to a medium heavy but other than that a medium power rod is the best for cranking.
