I had the same problem with the latch thinking I would not change it out with the new latch that came with the lift assist kit, I just couldn’t see much difference between them. But when I couldn’t shut my door I decided to use the new latch and that did the trick, it sat flush and my door shut. The slotted holes above are for a safety hand rail.

I have same issue. Mine is a new Gen3 quad 4 step, wide. But I can't see any difference in the 2 transport bars. Both are adjustable. There has to be a slight difference other than the unexplained triangle flange on the one that comes with the lift assist kit. Did you discover a difference?

@@ba5online the arms the triangle is on are slightly longer but not by much…all I know is once I got over being stubborn and changed them out with the new ones it solved the problem!

@@svhub OK, looks like that's what I'm going to do. Thanks Fred.

Good to know what the slotted hole is for. Guess it just happened to be in the right spot so it worked for what I needed it to do. Thanks for your comment and for assisting @ba5online!

Great video. Just purchased the steps and the lift assist plus the hand rail for my 40 foot Montana. 👍🏻👍🏻

Great job. I enjoyed your video as I am wanting to install assist and have same issues with pins.

Thanks, I'm glad you found it helpful! I recently saw someone suggest using 1/4"x3" cotterless hitch pins. They have a ring at the end to pull which makes it easier to get them out. I'm going to pick up a couple next time I'm at a hardware store. Still have to deal with the frustrating pins but at least it may make it a little easier.

After replacing the transport locking bar that came with your lift assist kit in the new location with the elongated slots, did you slide it to the rear or front to get it to fit flush and did you use the same adjustment on the left and right sides?

It's been a while so I don't recall. I think it was slide one way or the other and not in the middle but I could be wrong. May be able to tell in the video. I sold that rig and we are full-time in a fifth wheel now so unfortunately I can't take a look at it for you. It did work just fine after I moved it to the position with the elongated slots and we enjoyed the lift assist while we had it. I'm wishing my current rig had it and might add it one day. Thanks for your comment.

I just went back and watched that part of the video. Unfortunately due to the mount you can't see where the bolt positions were. I do recall just getting it snug and wiggling it until it fit flush and that worked.

Looks like a good product. I like you already have Lipper steps wish all you need to do was to change the mount plate between the step and floor (would cut the cost) and a template for new latch if need

Thanks for watching!. I Agree. They're pretty good at listening to customer feedback so they may have made that change already. I know they've made comments about looking at different ways to do something different with the pins you have to pull out to adjust the length due to customer feedback.

Do you have a problem with dirt getting inside your camper when you lift your steps up? I guess the remedy for that would be to sweep off your steps before closing it up

    • @GlampingGleaves
      @GlampingGleaves  3 роки тому +2

That is one con some people may have with them. You hit the nail on the head though. We keep an expandable broom in the cabinet by the door. A quick brush before flipping them up prevents the dirt issue.
So it’s a little bit of effort but I still prefer them over the flip down ones that flex so much and rock the camper every time someone goes in/out.

Who did you speak to at Lippert to get the steps?

I’m in a group of customers they selected to be part of a “scout” group. Think there is about 1,000 of us that they’ve sent some products out to for testing. It’s a closed Facebook group however, there is a public one called “Lippert Scouts: The Community” that you could join. They do some special deals for that group too.

Next Question why so expensive ?

Good question. Would have to ask Lippert that one. It’s a quality product but it is pretty pricey.
