    Nick Id like to thank you again for all your videos. If these videos had been out 19 years ago the process of building one of your boats would have been much easier. I bought your book The Stripped Built Kayak. I read the book about seven times before I even started lofting the plans out. The Guillimot cought my eye at first glance even though it was going to be the hardest boat to build in your book. Six months after buying your book I launched my brand new guillimot kayak. I had to buy several tools and all the supplies thats why it took me six months. I had a wife , a three year old daughter and a 6 month old boy. I still paddle that same boat to this day and even though it has battle scars I still get lots of compliments. I would recomend anyone wanting to build any of your boats to by your book or books. I am planning on ordering your prints for the Guillimot 19 expedition. I camp out of mine all the time and Ive logged thousands of miles in it. My daughter told me when I build the 19ft she wants the Guillimot single. I use to put her in the back hatch with an airbag behind her and thats were she started her love of kayaking. Both my kids paddle there own kayaks and love it. I never realized the impact of building that Guillimot would have on me and my children. Thanks again.

    Nick your instruction video is simply the best, I have watched them all several times over. As soon as I get my hands on some money for plans and materials I will be all over this one,Thanks to you Nick,

    100% agree! LOVE doing the "end pour" before joining the hull & deck.
    The dislikes? Well, there's just no pleasing some people. As for me, I'm thrilled to have an opportunity to learn from a Master Builder. After reading Nick's book (The Strip Built Sea Kayak) these vids really take clear up some questions for me.
    Thank you Nick!

    This was great. Ive watched all the videos so far and hadn't seen the end pour. I was eager to see what tricks you had to simplify the process as the idea of lowering buckets of epoxy down the body was always daunting to me. I love the idea of doing the pour in halves and joining them later. Great video

    Do you send it from inside?? Fiber tape edge, after curing with epoxy, very sharp.

      I do not sand the inside. The edge of the tape is a bit rough, but I don't worry about it. I have put peal-ply down on top of the wet fiberglass to make for a smoother finish, but I usually don't bother.

      @@NickSchade yes. I do the same. I but wide polyethylene tape on top of epoxy, bu I sand by hand a little to smooth after

    Nick, I've watched most of your videos but haven't come across any about cutting out the storage compartment hatches. Do you have any tips? Do you do it before or after glassing the top and you do you ensure a waterproof seal? I'm about to start glassing my night heron double by the way.

      Hi Adam, I guess I have not put out a video showing the process. I typically cut the hatches before installing the deck on the hull. I usually cut it with a jigsaw. I make a lip that gets attached to the underside of the deck to support a gasket. There is a spacer between the lip and deck to accommodate the thickness of the gasket which I make from weather stripping.
      The primary requirement to achieve a good seal is down-pressure on the gasket. This is easier said than done especially on large, flat hatches. Some spacer blocks to support straps or shock cord will help make downward pressure.

    Nick, are you washing off the amine blush before putting epoxy over epoxy?

    • @NickSchade
      @NickSchade  5 років тому

      I don't always wash off the epoxy. But a scrub with a bit of ammonia and water with a scotch-brite pad is recommended.
