    The cut off wheel is much less scary when you throw the sparks at you instead of away from you. When cutting this way the tool is trying to pull away from you instead of trying to attack you.

      Yeah the spark shower sucks but I find it more stable that way as well

    • @neilfromclearwaterfl81

      @@FlawedOffroad Be sure to wear tight fitting safety glasses if its throwing the sparks at you. Adjusting the guard so the least get to you can help reduce that risk but better is the orient the grinder so that any sparks it throws at you are going down at your feet instead of your upper body.
      Wearing a dust mask becomes more critical when getting the spark shower on your upper body since nobody wants to get silicosis which is generally considered incurable once you become symptomatic. Even a mild case can really mess you up and limit your ability to sing and shout.

      The best and safest place for our bodies to be while using a grinding or cutting wheel is behind it with the cutting wheel in front of us, the sparks going toward our feet.

    Cutoff wheels have a tendency to buck and get ya. Love the progress! Overhead work and cutting off brackets are taxing. Doing it together, even more. Interested in what Artec crossmember that is that you have for your transfer case

    • @MischiefMakerTV
      @MischiefMakerTV  11 місяців тому +1

      That’s a home made cross member holding the Atlas support ring. If you have an atlas, you definitely want one and I really like the TMR support ring.
      www.tmrcustoms.com/products/atlas-transfer-case-support-ring-kit
      You’ll have to get creative with your crossmembers depending on what else is in that space. Instead of running a solid bad between the frame rails and a bushing below the support ring, my support ring is hard mounted to its own crossmember and that crossmember is attached to the frame via bushings.

    I don't think you had to take the crossmember down just to clean up the area; you could've cleaned up the lines, tacked the tabs, and then take it down to fully weld, but great job nonetheless!!! I'm glad your back is holding up pretty well. I saw you picking up things and holding them up and I was bracing for you. Great job on the video and on the new crossmember.

    I've made an observation: You wear hats often but you're hatless when you're under a greasy, oily, muddy, messy vehicle with all that crap falling on you and getting in every part of you including your hair. Keep your hat on. :P
    The more clothes we wear working on dirty things the cleaner our body's stay.

  • @neilfromclearwaterfl81
    @neilfromclearwaterfl81 11 місяців тому +1

    It usually takes me a few tries to weld a nut on to extract a broken bolt too.
    Didn't realize they made Chrome Impact Sockets until I saw this and looked it up. Bling!
    I have to keep reminding myself to wear safety glasses when using impact tools. Its a bother until a chip flies an hits us in the eye to remind us why we should bother with them. You have nice eyes, which I'm sure Walter will agree, so please do consider better protecting them.
    When working with the cutoff wheel be mindful of where the sparks (bits of hot metal) are going such as your ear muffs, the GFI outlet on the wall behind your work table or perhaps the electric motor of another tool or perish the thought into your morning cup (Oh the Horror!). Seriously though its a pain to have to deal with a faulting GFI or dead motor that got smoked because they got loaded up with metal filings/dust and shorted out.
    Watch the back and keep it happy. You can finish the fight another day which is better than getting knocked out of the ring for a week or so.
    Best!

      I chose the harder path. Repairing the frame, adding a new track bar bracket and throwing in a front truss and adding full hydro would have been way easier.
      Instead, I elected to fix the frame, relocate the steering box 2” forward (which requires modifying the coolant reservoir and lengthening the steering column), keep hydro assist (which means making sure the geometry is correct between the drag link and track bar), and install a new front suspension (completely removing skids, cutting off old long arm brackets, installing new crossmember, adding tabs for T-case support ring crossmember, and modifying exhaust).
