I have, many times, been down to my last few hitpoints, fighting desperately to survive, and managed to just squeak by enough to use a power that turned the tide and let me beat the map. What I love about this game is that your really get to see how much stronger your character has become. If you know what you are doing you can make you character insanely powerful. The murder counts can be insane.
But it's usually tied to your build. One time you spend 5 minutes to kill the Shamans in the campaign with Tool of Destruction and after that you one shot a Tier 12 expedition boss together with the whole room with one Cold Snap, it's the little things in life :D.
I actually like the no hud bug, it makes it seem very cinematic i wish they would add the feature to be able to see status affects and health bars, then hide your abilites unless they are on cooldown
The final point is pretty important I think. Every game doesn't have to be a "thousands of hours"-type of thing. Absolutely agree re: the fragmented nature of the travel. One lucky saving grace for me is that I usually don’t mind the bit of down time because the combat is so intense. But would be much better if there was some other actually interesting downtime activity.
I have to say, I am loving this game. I played through the campaign solo, and started the expeditions solo. I still have to level the other classes, and I really want to. It has bugs, and room to improve, but I am truly enjoying it.
Perfectly said, terrific review without bias. I think you spoke for everyone’s opinions on this game while simultaneously giving the game credit where it’s due. Hope the devs see this and expand on what it does great!
If you're watching this video today, virtually all of the major issues have been fixed, and the loot drop rates have been buffed with the most recent patch. Definitely one of the best looter shooters of the decade.
This game has a lot of flaws, but for the love of god- it’s so addictive. It provides what Anthem didn’t- loads of awesome loot, fantastic classes and the amount of customisation is making this game worth the money despite its problems.
Yeah I am really enjoying it too, the two main issues for me are connectivity which was woeful at release and the sound cutting in and out at times can be very annoying but I agree for all its flaws it is a fun and addictive game if you like looter shooters.
_Unless_ the shallow gratification of getting lots of extrinsic rewards (loot) thrown at you doesn't affect your enjoyment of the intrinsic game design at all - like for me, then this game is just another 6/10 "eh, it's decent" shooter among the loot of them. Enjoying this game alot. I've only had a couple freezes. A fresh install on a new Series x had absolutely no problems all day. Looks fantastic. None of the issues Ralph talked about have appeared. There are a few things that you do not mention in terms of endgame progression: 1: You can level your gear and raise attributes on the weapons and gear through Zahedi, not only mods 2: Tiago is a vendor that can help you if you are unlucky with drops as he has a rotating gear shops, also for legendaries. 3: Bailey is a vendor where you can trade resources to get access to more titanium. 4: You can grind lower CT expeditions to get more Droppod resources if you are struggeling.

Firstly shill up I love your work, your attention to detail your extremely well reasoned, edited and produced content is the gold standard for youtube in my honest opinion. That being said. I honestly cannot understand how youtubers such as yourself and gamers in general have become so comfortable with games being released in such a terrible condition/state (No matter the potential of said game). In almost no other industry can a product be released not fit for purpose and not be lambasted for it (I would call a game breaking bug as your whole inventory and progress being randomly deleted not fit for purpose). How low our expectations of game releases are these days. While I love your enthusiasm for the innovation this game has shown and the potential this game has, I simply cannot understand how gamers/consumers (yourself included) have come to accept games being released in this state. I will NEVER pay full price for a game that is released in this condition (I for the last 10 years have waited to see just how bad the release of a game is before even considering buy it on sale). I will wait for sales and such games these days do not deserve my hard earned dollars for sub par products. I just got sick of all the lies the gaming industry keeps telling it customers/consumers. Shill up if you do read this rant thanks for your time and efforts on your channel I honestly love your work and also thanks for taking the time. Cheers.
Easily the best game reviewer, well done once again. It’s always entertaining to watch and rewatch your reviews over the years (especially the ones for division and destiny).
A lot of the technical issues come from the fact that it IS a 'games as a service' game. you have to be connected to their servers to play, if the servers are down it is impossible to play - you are paying to use there service.
Hope you can give us a review for the expansion after it releases. There are many problems you touched on in this review that have already been fixed (bug fixes, toned down snipers, balance improvements, expedition timers removed, legendary item shop, etc). The expansion sounds like it's trying to really take everything good about the game to the next level and I'm not sure many players ever returned since the big November patch that really ironed out the endgame.
Thanks for this Ralph. I'm really torn on this one. I love sci fi and 3rd person looter shooters, so I feel I should be getting Outriders. I've not finished the full video yet, still watching, but thanks for putting your content out there. Your insight is appreciated. I hope they fix the issues and get more of a following to help rise this game up to where it wants to be. I really want to support Outriders and People Can Fly to encourage 3rd person sci fi game products like this, but am feeling I want to wait for a sale at this point, as I'm happy in League of Legends, and the demo didn't quite appeal as much as I hoped. It's difficult to get sci fi right with a mature feel, in my opinion, but when it is done right, it's glorious. The customisability and instant meaningful loot is an achievement in itself, so thank you for highlighting this. I'm going to watch the rest of the video now. Thanks again for your content.
7:38 Oooh the story. Why couldn't it be a good story? I know stories are hard to get right, especially for mass audiences, but how I crave a good sci fi game story. I will keep dreaming, and writing :D
Solo Endgame Tip (in steps) 1. Instead of playing at higher challenge tier, drop it down to a tier that is easy 2. Farm loot to sell 3. Use the scraps to buy titanium 4. Use the titanium to level up gear in current build (don’t have to keep swapping out gear) 5. Then play on a tier that will increase challenge tier (you’ll notice it doesn’t have to be the highest available tier) 6. Repeat
Having spent over 20 hours playing Outriders myself, I noticed I had a great big smile on my face watching all the pure pwnage gameplay in the review, not even realizing I was watching for over 40 minutes. :D

Yo that review was so fucking good. I've seen reviews for the last ten years on so many sites and UA-camrs and this is probably the best and most informative I've heard, and kinda seen cuz I was cooking breakfast while hearing it. Really phenomenal job man.
Thanks for the awesome review! I'm about 10-15hrs in on Series X and thankfully haven't had any crashes or game breaking issues... YET! 🤞🤞... Health regeneration just while in cover for pyro in order to regain footing in certain circumstances is a brilliant suggestion btw 👍
47 minutes? ah yes i wanted a short film Do like the game, server issues are a mess, (Before launch it was allright, yay review copies?) only had one crash so far
Good review as always. My friend and I just completed the campaign and did the first 2 expeditions before hopping off for the night. I'm assuming they fixed the vast majority of these technical difficulties by now because I only crashed once and we haven't experienced any of the other bugs mentioned. The only problems we had were that I got disconnected on the spider/worm boss at the volcano and end up fighting it alone and if we ever wiped on a mission, sometimes I would respawn invisible and unable to move for about 2 minutes until my character spawned in. My friend doesn't have the best internet though and I always played in his world so it could've been a problem with that. I absolutely love this game though. My friend and I are hardcore Destiny players and no-lifed both Division games but this game easily beats all other looter shooters in gameplay and mechanics. The mods and sound design of the weapons are also SO good with the echoing crack of my sniper in canyons and such. I also have no idea how you beat the campaign at World Tier 8 because my friend and I exclusively did the main missions with non of the side missions and we beat the final boss just before we were about to hit world tier 12. We also had auto max world tier enabled so maybe you played some missions at a lower tier and didn't level it up. But holy crap, this game is DIFFICULT when always playing at max world tier. I played CC/dps with Technomancer while my friend played the fire character and mainly focused on dps and we hit multiple soft walls. It was always a good kind of difficulty though if that makes any sense. It was never the kind of difficult where the game mechanics were screwing us over, it was just the kind of difficult where we had to play smarter and muscle our way through. Take the section where you fight across No Man's Land for example. We hit that section around world tier 6 or 7 if I remember correctly and we just couldn't deal with all the tanky armored enemies pushing us with the snipers on the hill. So I equipped all CC skills, told my friend to dash to the top and take out the snipers while I just kept freezing and stalling the tanky guys. Once my friend took out all the snipers he came up to the tanky guys from behind and we were able to corner them and take them out with relative ease. It was a breathe of fresh air compared to other looter shooters because in something like Destiny, you don't have the option to outflank the enemy or anything, you are just forced into a mindless meat grinder for the vast majority of the time. I absolutely love this game and I haven't even hit max world tier yet and have only gotten 3 exotics so far. I feel like the build customization at true end game will be awesome and I'll be able to fully flesh out my character and make him personal to my playstyle given the massive variety of mods, skill tree selection and weapon varieties.

Excellent review, all good points! I played thru the whole campaign 100% solo and had a blast! Once I got to the end game and found out that expeditions are timed I was bummed! I despise timed content, I’m a bit older and my reaction time is not what it once was. I would much rather have harder content w no timer that gave 1/2 the amount of loot as it does now. I enjoy this game so much that I will put up with the timer but I’m hoping we get some other modes in the future. Great review! Thx.

I am solo Devastator PC player myself. I agree with a lot of what you're saying, though I was surprised to hear how many crashes/bugs you experienced. I've had a mild few, nothing near the degree of Fallout 76, not even close. I guess I'm lucky. There are a lot of cool builds out there, like did you know that melee counts as a skill? I've made an insanely fun burst anomaly build around the Untamed Power mod (30% anomaly power as explosion with each skill cast). Add a shotgun with Claymore and Lightning and I've got an insane burst rotation of: Skill, Melee, Shotgun. I just have to figure out how to work survivability in there without lowering my damage too much. I'm at tier 10 expeditions. My progression has been slow, but steady. Do a few expeditions, tweak my build, try next tier, get 1-shot by an enemy, go back a tier. Rinse and repeat until I can take the next tier. I'm interested in trying other builds, but honestly I'm just having so much fun with my current build. This game is definitely everything I've always wanted The Division to be in terms of feeling powerful and I know I'm not even using the best build or class. I don't think it's about power necessarily for me so much as awesome abilities. Like could you imagine if The Division had that time bubble? or the ability to fly up and then crash land into your target? It's freaking awesome.
You nailed it about the fact that endgame forces people to use dps-oriented builds. It's one of the big reasons why bullet builds are so widely used, and why the recent nerf to them will not change build diversity like the devs think it will. I can only speak as a Technomancer, but absolutely none of the other skills come close to the versatility and added damage output of their Blighted Rounds. There are only two other skills Technomancers have that are purely damage-oriented. One is wonky at best and has a long cooldown (Pain Launcher) and the other was ALSO nerfed since it had a powerful build associated with it as well (Tools of Destruction). The rest are CC/Distraction/Support oriented, and don't do enough damage on their own to create damage builds around. Until People Can Fly buffs the other abilities, removes time limits and makes endgame objective based instead, or lowers the bullet spongey-ness of elites, the focus will always be on high dps builds, which, for the most part, means bullet builds (and Devastators getting kicked). Also note that the nerf gut-punched those of us still in the campaign even more (like me). I legit put down the game after I emptied 300 bullets of a Legendary lmg infused with Blighted Rounds into an elite's head, and he didn't die. I'm late into the campaign; level 27 world tier 13. Before the update I fought that same captain with an Epic tier assault rifle (Blighted Rounds activated) and while he put up a fight, the Time To Kill felt good and balanced. Not anymore. In trying to nerf the tryhards that are already beyond endgame with maxed gear and perfect groups, they made everyone else suffer.
What I really got from this video is how much fun the other classes look compared to my technomancer wtf. Another good review man. The bugs are brutal and the stability is fucked. And one day it could be a super fun game if they are fixed.
@@andrewburchett2657 all reviews arr biased. if anything, i commend shill up for wearing his ARPG/mmo-lite/looter shooter bias on his sleeve. i rarely agree with the guy on games, but i value his input and appreciate his talent for writing up a compelling review.

So glad I decided to take a "wait and see approach" with this game. I was actually quite interested in it, I could see the appeal from the demo, but I also want to play a game that works properly , the cyberpunk 2077 ptsd is real.
Sadly the only rewarding end game content is timed, meaning any build that isn't about maximizing DPS is counter-productive. On top of that the newest patch was nothing but nerfs and inventory wipes are more prevalent than they were previously.
Thank you for the review I was thinking about buying it on PC today but now that I watched the review I think I’ll wait a few months to see how it turns out in the long run.

That how the fallout 76 community see their game. I mean i don't like this nor that but your is still a very good attitude toward gaming just enjoy the things you like
I have less respect for these devs for lying. "No reskinned/recycled content" Half of the story and expeditions are literally recycles of each other. Even with all the issues fixed, this is not a $60 game. $40 at best. Story starts off good, but then the story falls flat, characters fall flat, no sense to anything, dialogue is ass, and the cutscenes are so unfinished/pointless.
Though I haven't played this game, you make the game sound to me like what I love with Borderlands 3. A game with a decent story but a great loot game that once you grind up to the point where you can easily play through the harder difficulties/missions, there isn't much of a point to keep playing a game until a new DLC comes out. I might try this game if friends play it. Borderlands is one of the only games that I liked grinding for the right loot. It was a lot easier knowing that certain bosses/locations had a better chance of getting what I wanted. So if I do play this, it will probably be a while until I hear better things about it. I'm glad to hear that people like this game, but until a couple people want me to play this game or it has a more compelling loot game, idk if I'll pick it up.
Good review 👍, you can always get good end game gear from Bailey or Tiago. Devastator is hard to pump out DPS cause they don't have the weapon power skill *twisted, volcanic, or blighted rounds* but can be done. I main the devastator and I got gold on CT15 solo. Can't do it all the time but still possible.

I think it's time for a revisit. Huge fixes, got it on sale and I absolutely hooked, no more scratching my arms to get that Destiny 2 high.

Is the combat loop improved?
Lol we are only one year into this decade I think that’s a bit early to call.

There are a few things that you do not mention in terms of endgame progression:
1: You can level your gear and raise attributes on the weapons and gear through Zahedi, not only mods
2: Tiago is a vendor that can help you if you are unlucky with drops as he has a rotating gear shops, also for legendaries.
3: Bailey is a vendor where you can trade resources to get access to more titanium.
4: You can grind lower CT expeditions to get more Droppod resources if you are struggeling.
As to your second point, we don't know if/when Tiago's inventory for legendaries will rotate.

Cheers.
I can't wait to buy your book, Skill Up for I too, am a dumbass
Easily the best game reviewer, well done once again. It’s always entertaining to watch and rewatch your reviews over the years (especially the ones for division and destiny).
A lot of the technical issues come from the fact that it IS a 'games as a service' game. you have to be connected to their servers to play, if the servers are down it is impossible to play - you are paying to use there service.
You're obviously a sheep who lacks an education, it's spelled their*, not there.
Your videos are so in-depth and worthwhile. I always check this Channel first if I'm looking for a review. Thankfully we like the same type of games!
You're gonna be competing with Paul Tassi for that book title.
Indeed. And this is way more Paul's wheelhouse then it is Skillup's.
I love the way you talk about Destiny guns. It’s the thing that always makes me come back
Hope you can give us a review for the expansion after it releases.
All the server issues really made me wish the game had an offline mode.
Have missed these feature length reveiws 😁 keep them coming Skillup
Solo Endgame Tip (in steps)
1. Instead of playing at higher challenge tier, drop it down to a tier that is easy
2. Farm loot to sell
3. Use the scraps to buy titanium
4. Use the titanium to level up gear in current build (don’t have to keep swapping out gear)
5. Then play on a tier that will increase challenge tier (you’ll notice it doesn’t have to be the highest available tier)
6. Repeat
Having spent over 20 hours playing Outriders myself, I noticed I had a great big smile on my face watching all the pure pwnage gameplay in the review, not even realizing I was watching for over 40 minutes. :D
I'm so glad he mentioned the loading screen thing, it's annoyed as hell to be honest, feel like the designer loves Resident Evil :)

Release the Ralph Cut
Fun Fact: 40m runtime or less is a short. Over 40 minutes is considered full or “feature” length.
I feel like talking to someone is a loading screen in itself. It just makes you stand there for like 3 full seconds unable to do anything
You can skip that btw
@@legomocsalex5655 If you skip it, it is 3 full seconds per menu. If you don't skip it, it's like 10 minutes of scinge followed by 10 seconds of something interesting happening that I wish I could have watched without the 10 minute preamble.

Thx.
Outriders be like : i'm your rebound, i dont want to start a relationship( live service) with you. We had a good time, when you get your next girlfriend, you'll think of me from time to time. And thats the end of it!
That run through the options menu was very TB-esque. Would love to see more of that in all your reviews.

Its worth supporting this game for the developers attitude toward and respect for their players alone.

@@nguyenmanh2101 if it ain't fun for YOU then don't play it. I as well enjoy outriders even with all its really broken bits.
Played this game for three days straight, and as someone who’s super into looter shooters like borderlands, I’m honestly getting super into it .
Any plans to re-visit this game after the new update? Curious to see how significant the improvements are
Good review 👍, you can always get good end game gear from Bailey or Tiago.
