Wildcat POV Comparison (2019 vs. 2024), Lake Compounce Wood Coaster Running Faster with Precut Track
Вставка
- Опубліковано 26 кві 2024
- Wildcat at Lake Compounce is running faster than ever in 2024. This past offseason, the park replaced several hundred feet with Gravity Group precut track. This vertically-stacked wood track is smooth. For the first time ever, I actually got some airtime on this ride!
2019 was filmed on a hot summer day when wood coasters traditionally run their fastest. 2024 was filmed on a cool spring day when wood coasters typically run a bit slower. The fact a cold 2024 day beats a warm 2019 day shows just how much better the ride is running this year.

Wildcat POV (Lake Compounce)
Not only is it smoother, but it's running a bit faster!
And keep in mind, the old video was on a much warmer day. So this ride could get even faster in summer.
You can kind of tell in the POV at 0:37 where it suddenly goes from "brand new coaster" to "antique", but I didn't mind the shake-up finale honestly. Great airtime throughout, glad it's back.
The end is bouncy, but it's slow at that point so it's not too brutal.
I confess: up to now, I have never ridden this coaster. Which I guess is what separates me from a REAL coaster enthusiast, who would read and watch all the same reviews I have, and then go ride it at least once to see if it's *really* that bad. I walk up to the queue and just think, "wait a minute, everyone in the world says this is a terrible, unpleasant ride--what am I even doing here?" But now that they fixed it... I guess it's time to ride it.
No such thing as 'real' and 'not real' enthusiasts, that's just a gatekeeper's fantasy. If anybody is a 'not real' enjoyer of any hobby, it would in fact be those that try to make it unappealing for others to participate in. There's no shame in prioritising your wellbeing and enjoyment over your credit count. The only thing you can't do if you choose not to ride something is claim to have a valid opinion on it.
It's mostly smooth and decent now.
Love the side by side pov! It really shows how the new track sections have improved things.
And the fact it ran this well on a cold day bodes well for the summer.
Wow!! That looks insane, those hills look like they provide lots of airtime
They do
The middle ones do finally have airtime.
Got 2 rides in on this beast on opening day. The new sections are great. Fast and smooth. No more jackhammering and uncomfortable lateral Gs.
It did wonders.
I definitely think they will need to retrack the rest before too long. The new section is so much smoother and as a result the train moves just that much faster, increasing wear on the older track and structure. I'm so excited to see it finished!
The plan is to fix the ending after this season.
@@CanobieCoaster Wow!! I had no clue! That's wonderful to hear
Extremely smooth!!
The new parts are.
Kitty gotta keep at least some of its claws
More parks should invest in this seeing how well it worked on each of their retrackings so far and I definitely know a coaster that could use it *cough* Blue Streak *cough* since it jacked hammered me when I rode it last year
This shows what Gravity Group can do.
GREAT Comparison! 👍 Faster in 2024 👍
Yes, and that was even in more unfavorable conditions.
That is a great side by side. What a difference.
Very good.
Gravity Group did a great job.
I haven't been to Lake Compounce and thus haven't been on this ride since 2015. This rollercoaster looks leaps and bounds better now with the re-tracking. I hope I'll get a chance to be able to go to LC and be able to ride Wildcat sometime this year!
Gravity Group did a fantastic job.
Thankfully!!
Glad they did it.
Rode this yesterday and I really enjoyed the new track and that I actually got air time. I thought I was just imagining it being faster but I guess it really was
It definitely is.
this ride used to bang my shins up lol
It was awful before the recent work.
Gonna miss that "snap" after the first turn.
I don't miss the pain.
Nice video!!! Remember the 50 best coasters in CA video? I want you to make a 2024 version of that video! (If your opinion isn’t different then don’t)
I don't think my opinion has changed enough to warrant a reranking at this time. Maybe after Knott's or Magic Mountain add another big coaster.
Fun fact my sister is one of the head lifeguards there!
Nice!
The original looks smoother because of the steady cam 😆
The old one is significantly rougher, trust me.
Huge difference
Yes
Fun ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
It is now.
It looks as if it’s running faster
It is.
Does it have airtime now?
Yes
One thing as always to note.... seems like modern wooden coaster makers don't paint.
It is easier to detect structural issues in unpainted wood, so since we now have technology to protect unpainted wood, there's no reason to paint woodies anymore. However, I've heard that Lake Compounce plan to paint the new track for Wildcat at a later date.
@@ElectriKong- I guess that's why Lagoon's wooden coaster is not white no more.
They plan to repaint this in the future. They couldn't paint the wood now since it was recently manufactured.
It kinda looks like the same speed, it just gets over the lift hill faster
It is faster now. Keep in mind the 2024 POV was in cool weather and the 2019 one was on a hot day.
@CanobieCoaster Ah, that makes sense
Eek. The GCI sections are… GCI alright. Profiling and banking are not classic at all. Those sections might as well be Prowler or Troy or Thunderhead or White Lightning or, or, or, or…
GCI added new trains, but most of the old trackwork was Martin & Vleminckz.
@@CanobieCoaster I see. Well my point still stands. The profiling is such a contrast between the old and new sections. It’s truly bizarre. But if the ride is fun I guess that’s all that matters.
I'm Batman
Go fight crime.
