Love how affordable some of this new gear is getting! Great review.
Thanks. Mine arrived last week so your review will help in its use.
"What's in the box?!" I always love a Seven movie reference. Solid looking product btw. Thanks for the great review
Thanks so much! :) Hard to resist one of those references whenever possible haha.
I just bought this kit. I love the fact that the motor and wheel accept a battery. Battery life is reported to be pretty good but also the batteries are for nothing on Amazon and eBay at £12 to £14 a pop. I'm going to be using it with the iFootage Shark Slider. All the reviews I've seen for this kit are very good regarding build quality and performance with everyone rating the system as a good responsive well-built product that delivers on its promises. Looking forward to getting this.
Very helpful. And persuasive -- I bought it. Could you link me to the screw you mentioned for mounting the thumbwheel to a cage? what is this screw?
Very cool looking
Is there an upper time limit for transitions? E.g. could would it be usable for time lapses by setting the duration to 1h or even longer?
Can you power the motor via a usb cable for continuous running?
Thanks for the review, Scott. Q: Can you manually operate the follow focus via the phone app? Meaning, can you manually change focus with the app like you would manually turning the wheel? The presets are nice, but I'm wondering if this could serve as a low cost remote focus puller.
Where is a good place to get our photo lenses geared?
So Is It possibile to connect the thumbwheel and the app at the same time? So you can use the thumbwheel for focus but see the Marks on the app the screen of the Cell phone, and changing while focusing. It can be used like the focus ring in a full size wheel
I'm pretty sure that you can only connect one at a time unfortunately
Waiting for Amaren 100d/200d review and comparison between LS 120Dii and Amaren 200D
I would very much love to do that!
only 27k subs? This is a shame. Near Perfect review. Only thing missing is some field exemples..
I appreciate that! I would have loved to show more like that, but most of my shoots have NDAs so I can't share anything, and lately it's been tough to schedule shoots just for the purpose of showing these things :( Very much appreciate the comment though!
Hey Scott, Nice video! I've got a question: How precise is the follow focus with the app? I mean, if you do A and B stops on, let's say 4mts and 5mts on your lens, it will 100% hit those marks in the lens? What about when you write down your lens marks? Will it always hit the exact mark on your lens when it hits it on your phone? I've had bad experience with the moza ifocus on that department, not reliable at all. That's why I'm asking.
Thank you very much!
7:00 just got an answer. You mark 1.5 on your lens as A point and when you play it back it doesn't reach 1.5 :( so dissapointed
I would ignore that for the most part- I've found that 99% of the time it's spot on, and when you mark the distance markings on the lens in the app it does seem to be pretty reliable for that too. I've used the Moza too and it's much better than that from my experience so far.
@@ScottDumas by "it" beeing much better you mean the moza or the PD movie?
@@ScottDumas which one is better??
Can you use this in conjunction with autofocus lens and still use autofocus in some situations and then use the follow focus in another? I personally do not care for the hard stops.
An example would be to use Canon cinema camera with face detect on. So when then camera sees a face it would autofocus then when the face is not in the frame (or recognised) then I would use the wireless focus knob.
Thank you.
If the focus ring doesn't move physically it could work I guess- meaning nothing would break or fight against the AF... but if you have the control wheel calibrated for the start and stop of the focus throw (which is really pretty necessary to accurately use the controller) it will be messed up with autofocus takes over and moves those points.
@@ScottDumas I personally do not care if the focus ring on the controller is calibrated. However what I fear when when you calibrate the focus it translate an X amount of degrees of rotation on the controller to the Y amount of degrees on lens and thus the focus range on the lens can sort of "escape" form the rotation range of the controller.
Hope this makes sense. :)
@@GeorgeAtanassov I get what you mean but it’s mainly an issue with photo lenses not with manual focus lenses, so a bit unavoidable but not specific to this follow focus
