    Gerald, for pulling focus on a moving subject, the latency seems too much. And for talking heads of people not moving, you can just use the phone app for the auto focus the camera comes with. Your video is still worth watching (like always) because I didn’t even know that I could “stream wirelessly” to the external monitor. It is also great because of the insightful power solution that could be for multiple applications. I, very respectfully, believe the follow focusing claim is not very useful. I am big fan! Seriously!

    Great rig setup. Definitely something I would use on a regular basis. And it's good for directors (without the FF). Although, I would choose another v-mount brand. I've been using IndiPro Tools v-mount batteries for over a year now, and they're totally reliable. The 98W version costs $239. Unless I had throw away money, I would pass on a 45W that costs about the same price. Other than that, a no brainer monitor rig. Thanks for the links!

    One of the things that bug me, is a NP-F970 battery is about 47Wh, and cost like 60$CAD for 2 battery... Yet a single V-Mount 45Wh cost +300$CAD! What I've done is use a monitor like the Andycine X7S, which a 7.2volt output connector under the display (which is switched by the power switch of the monitor), and use it to power a 1$ USB voltage regulator that I connect my Nyrius Pro to. I have put Velcro on my Battery so I can attach the transmitter to it, yet making it easy to swap the battery. I use angled HDMI connector to make it look nice. Since the Andycine X7S have a 1/4 screw on each side, I've attached permentently Nato rail and I bought some cheap wood handle that held in place with Nato rail. I have the Nucleus-M (and N), which I attached a Nato attachement so it, so if I want, I can replace the handle on one side with the Nucleus-M hand unit for focusing. A single Neewer battery will last about 2 hours a full brightness at 2200nits which make that an really amazing display outdoor ! So I keep 6 charge battery to last a full shooting day outdoor. On my camera I've put a 1200nits display and I'm definitely want to replace it with the Andycine X7 for the brightness (and low cost). I have never actually tested the Wh of these NP-F970 versus a 45Wh battery... I'm tempted to buy one and see... I already have 4x150Wh and 2x230Wh... Yet they are heavy... So I think I'll stick with the NP-F970 setup I've got. But I'm tempted to buy that V-Mount to NP-F battery adaptor... never know when it can be useful..

    • @mochouinard
      @mochouinard 4 роки тому

      I just want to say that I KNOW what those NP-F970 Wh rating are wrong... There might be advantage to have 12volt as input to regulate for the monitor (less lost in heat). I know my NP-F970 battery does go really warm, which a V-mount battery might now, so the lost in heat from the NP-F because of higher than design drain rate might be causing issues as well... I actually wish a battery lasted 4 hour... That would take care of the morning shoot time, swap battery after lunch and again for the rest of the day. But I haven't figured out this solution while making the unit 'lighweight'

    Gerald, you should definitely Check out feelworld 7” ultra bright monitor, it powers up from np-f and has a dc 8v output, so you can power monitor and transmitter from one np-f battery) and you’ve got 2200nits for 500$

    Not that you would probably need it, since the v mount would run forever, but couldn't you put a sony L battery on the iKan, and power the focus wheel from there? That way you're still pulling mainly from the v mount, but when you change batteries, you only loose power to the monitor, and the other two stay running reducing setup time after changing batteries. Just seems like a good redundancy to me, plus you cover the top battery mount on the ikan, protecting it and cleaning it up, and you wouldn't need a big battery for that anyway.

    I use DJI’s RavenEye with my fuji xt2. iPhone works as my Wireless Monitor. Only one cable connection needed as I don’t use the DJI gimbal. RavenEye is charged internally so huge battery not necessary. Seems a lot of work and cost for a wireless monitor.
    Only down side to the RavenEye is it only works in 1080p.

    i'm looking into the unified power system too and foudn that the FX-lion one and two have a avantage in that sens because they have usb-c charging port so you can also charge your laptop with it and you can recharge them with a usb-c PD, that make less cable/charger to use/bring with you when travel or in general. counter poitn they don't have the double way d-tap port just regular one on them.

    This is great for getting your focus set and for monitoring, but pulling focus, no. That half a second could mean the difference between a clean shot and a blurry one. I wouldn't trust it on a set. Still a cool build.

    Can you use this in conjunction with autofocus lens and still use autofocus in some situations and then use the follow focus in another? I personally do not care for the hard stops.
    An example would be to use Canon cinema camera with face detect on. So when then camera sees a face it would autofocus then when the face is not in the frame (or recognised) then I would use the wireless focus knob.
    Thank you.

Whenever I viewing it on Native mode or Rec709 or Lut, it appears ghosting delayed on the monitor. I’ve changed 4 hdmi cables.
