Figured out the problem. I was having the same issue , burning smell 20 minutes in . after replacing the motor. I was still having the same smell . So i ran the treadmill for 20 minutes without me on it. And NO SMELL at all . I realized that the weight limit is totally a lie . It has 300 on the website, the manual says 270 , i weigh 262 and I'm still too heavy for the treadmill and its putting too much pressure on the motor. When I ran the treadmill with no weight it works just fine . They're using false advertising to sell then when you blow the motor because the weight limit is deceptive they charge you for repairs and parts only to have the same problem. If you weigh even slightly over 200 youre going to constantly have problems from the new proform treadmills and ellipticals. I won't be buying anything else from them ever .
Have you tried turning the motor by hand to see how much resistance it has? It should be easy to turn. If there is resistance then the smell you are reporting may be caused by friction in the roller or the belt deck. Possibly the belt deck needs lubrication or the belt tension is not properly set.
I have the same problem with my proform - ran great for a couple of years. Then this smell started kicking in at the 20 minute mark. It also started cutting out if I ran it 35-40 minutes at a time, which isn't much. I had a tech out to fix it. He could not find anything mechanically wrong with it. I bought a new one today, with a lifetime warranty on all parts. I really liked this treadmill, but can't keep working around the smell anymore.
I have exactly the same experience. In addition, once suddenly it stopped working. I changed the power fuser, connected it to electricity then again the fuser was broken! I like this treadmill but can't use it now since two weeks.
I have the same issue. The belt won't move now, the motor has that 'ozone' smell to it and the LED indicator on the board blinks 5 times, pause, 5 times... I think it means the motor is not longer good but looking to confirm that.
Have one just like it. So far, have replaced the walking belt, power board, circuit breaker and installed a fan on the end of the drive motor from a heavy-duty one found on city curb that had a fan on it. Also, a small blower fan from a curbside refrigerator I put in a big plastic Folgers tub and have that blowing on power board and thru the motor. Still doing exactly what yours is doing. They are pretty much junk.
Thanks for making this video! Our treadmill was sinking into the padded gym mat floor and elevating it seems to be helping as it too was overheating. The only vents are on the very bottom.
Hello I enjoy educating myself with your video. I am having a problem with the Motor Speed Controller Model: MC2100LT-12 such as the one on your video, it is exactly the same. You said in the video that you purchased the treadmill at an auction that it is a Gold's Gym equipment. That is a Pro-Form Performance 300 treadmill it is model #PFTL39513.1. I just spend $180 to have this technician tell me that the issue is the Motor Controller problem is that I do not want to spend another $189 for the controller as per Pro-Form prices. How were you able to get that particular treadmill so cheap?

My control panel is just blank after I pressed Bluetooth button. Got another one from preform but after 11 months it also went blank. Used a handful of times at home. Did not expect this to happen on high end equipment. £400 to replace parts. It’s probably just a simple damaged part that costs pence to replace.
I have the exact same machine. After about 6 years of light, weekly use it started to give off that burning electric smell. Also heats up the room. Time to switch to an exercise bicycle.
I found a video on here that said a flashing light means that you have a problem between the mainboard and control panel. I found here the connector and the treadmill ROARED to life.

Blue wires from Proform motor is reversible. They are just connected to a simple contact NC thermal contact in the motor that opens when overheated. You can short blue wires together for testing the motor with a dc battery.
I have the same problem and it turned out the motor went bad. Had my treadmill for 5 years and the motor finally just stopped working after emitting a burning smell. I took out the motor and plastic melted pieces fell out. I just ordered a replacement motor for about $190.00.
Maybe my stupidity will help at least one person. Haven't been on my treadmill for months. Used it today and noticed I needed to increase the speed from what I've used in the past. Figured motor was going. Started troubleshooting. Ran it for 20 mins. No smell. Then I saw something. Somehow the settings were changed to metric. Changed it back works fine. 🤣🤣🤣
Their workers doing shoddy work ! That motor should've been tested before assembly. Rework is down time and money lost. I once worked at a factory that manufactured body by Jake exercise equipment and the people from fabrication to the assembly line were lacking in work ethics. If you don't want to be on a job quit ! They will appreciate it rather than have you produce inferior products and you're in the way of someone else having a job they may just appreciate. The company went out of business, the factory shut down and we were all laid off.
The motor is working too hard and is damaged. Motors like everything else wear out. Just buy a new one. Check the surge protector and the fuses.If they are damaged replace them. Test them! They protect the motor.If there is a fan ,make darn sure it is running!
On my pro form 400i there appears to be no speed sensor. When it operates it jumps to 4 mph and goes and none of the buttons on the console function. It beeps erratically as well.
Extension cords create a voltage drop. Motors prefer to operate at the proper voltage. If you must use an extension cord, it should be a short, heavy gage extension cord that is rated for use with appliances like a dishwasher or an air conditioner.
Oh my goodness, I seriously never thought of that! My treadmill, an old Pro-form J8, started to pop its breaker after about 30-35 minutes of use. I'm 235 lbs and just walk on it, but thought my overweight body was the cause.
I have same issue..pro form is rubbish brand..they fixed ky belt agter 3 three months new purchase and after 18 months they had ro replace motor and main board...now it is working fine for First 20minutes tuen starts cooking something witj strong burning smell..78kg load
I have the same problem the smell from my treadmill comes from positive red wire that goes into motor, mine melted the cover over red wire got super hot, so I decided to replace motor since my main board connection was not getting hot.

I got one of these ,brought it 4 years ago.Just last month it keep tripping my breaker in the house when i turn the switch on.So when i look into it ,i realize it was the 2 blue wire connect to the motor,does anyone know what the 2 blue wires are for??
@@alexjez2061 The blue wires connect to a sort of 'fuse' called a thermal protection unit..The idea is that if the system gets hot, this unit will automatically disconnect thereby preventing a thermal meltdown.
@@lawrence4983 hi, that is what happens with my treadmill. After around 30 minutes using it stop working (the motor get super hot). You may think that the problem is the drive motor? Should I replace it? Or it’s there a way to collocate an external fan?

A motor becoming hot quickly in a system designed without a cooling fan is indicative of an issue with said motor...You can probably incorporate a fan, however, i sincerely doubt it will mitigate further heating up in a meaningful way...I suggest you have a professional test the motor so as to have a more accurate diagnosis at your disposal for any future consideration on repairs...Good luck.
THE LIGHT FLASH IS THE SENSOR DETECTING THE SPIN OF THE FRONT ROLLER THRU THE MAGNET TELLING THE MOTOR CONTROL BOARD HOW FAST THE MOTOR IS SPINNING. AND HOW MUCH POWER TO LAY DOWN. IF YOU LOOK AT THE ROLLER BY THE BELT ON THE SIDE OF THE THE ROLLER THERE IS A MAGNET
The speed sensor has no relationship to the flashing LED. It flashes when you press start and the system is working normally Call Jon @ Century Treadmill Service Advisor 1-877-627-0349 for assistance diagnosing any treadmill problem
Okay man, we also have the same problem as you can see in the video, the LED is flashing continously, but after a solid run (20-30 min) the motor stops and we cannot do anything.. Must wait some hours and the motor runs again a half hour.. Can anyone help me?
@@stevejanny3037 overload problem, test your motor, there are videos on youtube how to do this, most likely it will be a worn out motor that's beginning to fail, try looking up the tredmill dr, {no I don't wok for them} they're really good at helping online, or by phone, and sell all the parts you might need.

Did you check the brushes in the motor? Any meat left on them? You can replace just the brushes. Write the info on the motor down.

My proform 505cst has gone after 3 months. No power no display..there having it. Back as they have no spare due to covid

Mine did the same thing. It was an issue with the control board. Replaced for 150$
Check the motor brushes first
most of the time its a bad computer board, and they run $200!
if you've replaced the board and have a burning smell, most likely a motor, don't run your treadmill with a smell as the heat will destroy your board

No it is not. Flashing is independent of the sensor

I have a proform treadmill and everytime i put it after 4mph it stops when i step on it
Did you manage to fix the issue? I have the same problem. Everytime it gets any load, light of heavy, it stops to run after about 5 seconds

My proform is 2 months old , the incline doesn't appear to be going all the way up. Calibration does nothing. Proform service is non existent
