2023 Yamaha MT-10 Front Sprocket Swap

- Decided to do the -1 front sprocket swap on the MT-10. Decided to make it even more mental, and I am not gonna miss any top speed on a naked bike... 150mph is all you want to go on a bike like this. If I want more speed, I have the ZX14R that is made for that.

Totally agree that the stock gearing is too tall. Tight uphill turns in the mountains of Pennsylvania are a pain in the ass. I can’t imagine trying to start out on a hill with a passenger using the stock 16/42 sprockets.
Thank for the video. Couple of great tips there. I'm doing this mod next. I find 1st gear overly tall leaving the line. My buddies have even razzed me about my revvy take-offs while they just release their clutch at idol on their dang Super Dukes. This motor really prefers to spin, so I think we will both be happier. Thanks again.
YMMV...actually your milage WILL be worse lol
To get more chain slack. Remove the alignment block on right side, push the axle out just enough to allow the block on the chain side out, push tire forward for more chain slack.
Yeah, that would have been my next move, but I tried brute force and that worked. haha
Now I want a 17 tooth front sprocket not for the top speed. But for the 0 to 100 mph. Stock it does like 95 in second and I want that 100mph.
Enjoy your videos Dave. Too bad I dont live down in GA. Looking to trade in my Triumph 2018 STRS for the newer Speed Triple RS. But I do like the MT10 SP
On my 23 I did Superlite 520 conversion. +1 in the rear w/ a RK GXW. Top speed went down to about 156. Can notice the less mass and its more smooth. +1 in the rear isnt huge, but still fun
Recently went back to Chris for a dyno tune vs the flash after changing out the LeoV for a Racefit. Was only make 142 w/ the flash, after 149. Bike was very lean. He used the Austin Racing tune on my flash iirc. Still had to add alot of fuel
Yeah, he had a guy with my exact setup and used that tune in mine... I am gonna ride both bikes today and report back on how they feel and if I like it or not.
Bloody hell, that's going to be lively 😅😅
One hopes, but not too much!
Do you recall the size socket for the nut on the sprocket? Ordered one to give a shot and wanted to make sure I've got the appropriate socket before ripping it apart.
I believe it was a 27mm
I've gotten my MT10 SP up to 165 mph running with an R1 GPS confirmed. I've done DNA high flow air filter, Austin Racing Exhaust GP3 with GP1R tip, and Moore Mafia tune.
I am 6'4" and 245lbs, so I struggle finding a place to hide from the wind blast. It might do it, but it's hardly enjoyable. I can do 160 or so comfortably on the Zx14R in 4th gear... 150 is about all I would want to squeeze out of a naked bike...
@@SquireSCA No I get it I’m only 198-210 6’1” and trying for top speeds every inch and pound count against you, just stating my experience. Going that speed on naked is uncomfortable for sure barely peek off to the right and head about rips off, can’t deviate from the super tuck at all! Speed isn’t what makes this bike fun either we didn’t buy it for sheer speed we bought it for brute torque, wheelies, and playful nature.
Yeah, if it was my only bike I might have left it alone, but I have the ZX14R if I want to go really fast, so limiting the MT-10 to the low 150's range doesn't bother me...
I had a gixxer that was honestly fun to do 150 on but the MT? even 120 is not so fun personally I lament Yamaha losing the fairing like the original FZ1 DID have! Did buyers REALLY prefer totallt naked bikes? Or was that just pushed on us via marketing and the moto journalists? Cause I SO want the fairings back!
Question for you- did the codes clear themselves on your MT-10 after your flash? I’m not looking to spend the extra $100 to clear them if they fix themselves. Mooremafias page says they won’t clear, but if I understood correctly you said they did.
I finally got them to clear with a Bluetooth OBD connector, my phone and the Torque Pro app
@@SquireSCA crap. I was hoping they would clear after riding the bike for a bit. Are you able to provide the obd2 scanner you use? I’m tracking on the BT part.
@@gabetristan You need 3 things... the bluetooth OBD port, and the table that you plug into that with the red plug on one end that goes to the bike, and you need the Torque Pro app on your phone...
Hi Dave ! Are you happy with-1 in the front sprocket ? Thanks in advance
It's great for low speed manners and more wheelies, but some folks might not like the higher RPM on the highway. Luckily, its a cheap and easy mod to try out and see if you like it.
@@SquireSCA thanks man. I'm from the guys who gonna like that mod 🤙🏼
I am surprised there is no bend washer on the Sprocket. So it bends around the nut and prevents it from loosening. I know my Triumph sprocket has one.
There is on the Kawi, but the Yamaha has some sort of extension on the nut, that you "dent" with a screwdriver into a grove on the countershaft, that locks it in. I had to go back in and do that as I was talking and forgot. lol
Where did you get your frame slider from? Thanks!
Amazon. Search my videos for the Frame Slider video and the link will be in the description.
Nice post.Thanks.One season I used kerosene which is cheap, cleans quickly and okay for FZ10 chain. This last season used aerosol silicon which catches all chain coverage and zero dust attraction.Everything much simpler.Anybody know if there are specs to measure on chain teeth valley/peaks for wear when to change? I've got 20,000km on my 17' and fr./rear look ok so I may just do chain and fr. sprocket dwn.-1?? Thanks Dave for vid.I'll take a page outta your book.
WD40 is basically Kerosine with other additives... I also like keeping it simple... haha
I think LIF is wheelie control
If you are braking hard enough to make the back end light, shouldn’t you already be off the back brake?
Dunno, I never use the rear brake when riding…
@@SquireSCA Even hustling down the tail?
Recommend ASV levels.
Just did 600 miles South of Pigeon Forge. Cherohala on an MT10 is bliss
@@srpsrp3649 Yeah, I do all my braking with the front 99% of the time.
The entire reason Yamaha started gearin one tooth higher on this beast? more better MPG. Yje EMPTY TEN is a real gas guzzler....so I am hesitatant idk
I couldn't care less about fuel consumption. I drive/ride what I want and it gets what it gets... haha
THERE IS NO ZX14 VIDEO DAVE.
Oh, its very very real....
They uploaded out of sequence, its live now.
