The joepii is such an oddball. the fact that the variegated ones are like 10K a leaf is just absolutely bonkers, but I can understand going for it when you are a collector of interesting leafs. The spiritis sancti video is something I absolutely would love to see. That plant is like a nightmare in every chategory
I think the joepii has a really cool story and if I had a bigger place with more space for plants then who knows, mayeb I’d get one?
Great to see all your vids lately! I guess I'm lucky in that (don't shoot me) I don't really care much for variegated plants. Oh sure, I have a couple that I do like but I'm more into deep green and funky leaf shapes. But always interesting to see the unicorns and you seem to highlight them first!

id love to see that spiritus sancti video! im new into my houseplant journey and ive been watching and learning a lot but ive never seen a youtuber make so many interesting takes on the genetics of houseplants!! i was starting to think abt it just last night as i was going down my own expensive houseplant deep dive. maybe im just scratching the surface of plant trends and genetics, but its definitely fascinating and id love to see more!

I'd appreciate a spiritus sanctii deep dive. IMHO variegation is not aways a plus. Often times the variegation just makes the plant look sickly.

Im sure these videos are soooo much work and research to make but I hope to see a fancy Anthurium one in the future if you feel inspired to make it ofc 💚 Anthurium are rising in popularity and I’m living for it as they’re my fave genus to grow. But there’s def some insane price tags that come with that fame 😅

My variegated Joepii came from a flask of ten tc plantlets. It seems to only throw variegation every other leaf.

Your videos really stand out, great content as always. I believe many people will disagree with me but really don't like any kind of dark velvety leaves with variagation and is even worst if variagation is yellow and dark velvet. Mottled variagation not for me as well, it reminds me of lack of nutrition or virus. I am probably very fussy 😉

I used to be all about variegation but now that I’m keeping mostly anthurium I do see what you mean about it making the plants look sick. Mottled yellow variegation on dark anthurium looks gross imo. You’re not alone. Variegated philos and monstera can still get it though 🫶🏻✨🪴❤️
Watching this reminds how amazing it how much plant prices have dropped in less than a year. I went to a popup last July and they had a Sancti for $4200, a couple Joepii for over 2K, etc. I went a week ago to another popup and they had multiple baby Sanctis for $100-$200. and a decent sized Joepii for $60. Plant people need to keep coming up with new things for the high end collectors, but I can't imagine there are that many people willing to spend $10-$20k for a plant.
Very well said. I think at this point, paying that much should be reserved for something that’s newly developed that includes like licensing rights or something I.e. really only nurseries looking to make money on something that maybe a TC lab developed but with no expectation that the general public will ever pay that much. The plant crash happened because most people who were paying inflated prices for plants were looking to make money on them and then everyone they sold to had the same idea. Now there’s almost no one left buying plants. Funny how that happened.
Also imo the Spiritis Sancti has always been a highly overrated clout trap but props to whomever named it for being a marketing genius bc of course a bunch of people are going through to ascribe arbitrary value to something “rare” named after the literal Holy Spirit. Same thing happened with the Birkin.

I arrived early this time and no line, maybe no more than 15 people in the shop in the hour I was there!.They were still buying plants but not nearly to the same degree. I could pick out the online resellers because they were making piles.
Sounds familiar! Of course “no one is buying plants” is an exaggeration but I’ve seen the same thing here. I went to the first ever Ecuagenera pop up in LA in 2021 and it was madness. I actually vlogged it. People drove down from San Francisco. Crazy times.

It's pretty common in painted lady imo. Seen plenty of this here in Europe... It's def not stable tho. Just happens from time to time.

I saw a pretty old joepii last week ant it was the ugliest narly plant I’ve ever seen! I had been wanting one for a long time but no thanks now I’m passing on that one.

I'm with you on that plowmanii. The plants you showed before it were meh until you showed that one. I'm also not usually a fan of green-on-green variegation but this is an exception. I've seen some pictures of variegated atabapoenses floating around in facebook from different countries in asia, with one of them especially having that brilliant red-yellow-black-orange quadcolor variegation that's so appealing to me, more than the variegated spiritus sancti. In fact I actually find it kinda funny that the variegated atabapoense is more elusive than the variegated SS. And please do the SS DNA video as well, because I don't even have any idea what you mean by it having damaged DNA
I will have to look into finding sources to back up to refute my ideas so it’ll be a while but I think it would be a fun one to make
