It is, not just for instruments but for vocals too. I remember when our vocal teacher used to do prep tracks for us some of us that worked doing guides mentioned how it would be interesting to add it to guide vocals for novices as well. It’s simple and genial, but it also requires quite a bit of skill to follow through.

It's more of a realization that you yourself have done this all along. I remember back to the early years of playing guitar. Playing along with a tape of my favorite song. As I progressed threw learning the song, I too would do this same thing for the changes. I just never realized I was doing it and never put it on the tape. But just about everyone does something similar as they progress. It's more like an AH HA moment if you ask me. Even worked in audio for years and many of the dance cues singers would do this same way and I still never put it together until this guy. Still kind of has me baffled that I already do this.

I didn't know he was a fucking genius (at least to my eyes and ears) or even better, an incredibly skilled and knowledgeable and practiced drummer. I can't say anything about his technique one way or the other, but this is extremely impressive in its own right. I've watched many, many of these types of videos on Drumeo. All are incredibly impressive, but this is one of the most for me. Up there with Mike Portnoy's and Ashton Erwin's performances (maybe for different reasons). And your commentary added a lot to it! I've been following 66SAMUS on UA-cam since basically UA-cam was a thing. The man is funny af and a talented joy to behold. I do shudder to think what a drummer like Bonham would sound like with today's tech, though. Or even just a double kick pedal. Bonham's right foot was so fast and precise but it's a little bit muddled in the 70's audio mix. Kinda like Buddy Rich doing a double bass solo where he basically tap dances on the pedals for 90 seconds (as a farce) and yet it sounds like Meshuggah 60 years before Meshuggah.

But I've added a lot of Zep to my main playlist now and every song I I pulled in sounded very familiar. But this song sounds brand-new to me. It's like a magical, hidden, unknown Zep song. And in fact, as of minute 5, if not for the vocals, I would have sworn it was not Zep. Maybe from their last album (which I heard once as a kid and didn't like)? Yeah, I would have guessed Rush before Zep.

If you're a drummer, and even if you're not, you might like this funny video from Samus, "How Drummers Knock on Doors": ua-cam.com/video/wAeUwkFsz60/v-deo.html

that "slowdown part" doesn't slow down. the 16th notes are constant, but the section is in 30/16 or 2x15/16

I really like this method for the simple fact of doing the same thing twice as much instead of doing two things at once. So if you’re listening to the song and reading a sheet that’s two things at once but listening to a song and an audio note is the same thing twice. So you’re simply using one sense instead of two. Seems way more simple to perform imo

i feel like his method with the vocal cheat sheet would take a bit to get used to, but so worth it once you do.

I like how you had the same first reaction as i did. I never thought of using my own voice to the music, for reference. That was so eye opening. Its so cool Samus finally getting some widespread recognition, i am watching him for a long time and it really took its timek
Also I like that you have Steins Gate Merch in Background. (I am not sorry: "CHRISTINAAA")

one thing i dont see enough credit for is how fast this guy can play. i watch his videos mainly for the reactions and he just acts like a goof on camera but when hes behind the kit, he rips.

Are you 13? I don't understand how anyone can enjoy how he acts on camera. Or his annoying thumbnails
