The hub is there so that you don't ground out your cable on the body. Yes you can connect it directly, but it must be protected and not touch anything with an open wire.
Have you had any alternator whine / electrical interference from running the postive cable beside stock amp? , have been reading that grounding in truck and not to oem location will create horrible ground loop..
Stock amp has been pulled out, I'm running a bigger amp located in the trunk. That amp is grounded in the trunk, battery of course is grounded in the trunk. No issues with sound, I know what you mean about alternator whine tho. Solution a noise filter install between alternator and battery. In my case the power line is double insulated. The BMW power wire has a thick sleeve stock and I added the wire loom on top of that.

Did you make that battery tray or buy it? It looks to be a perfect fit.
I bought the tray off of eBay and added extra angle irons to make it fit in place.

It was a 90s model for sure, wish I could recall the model
