I am driving polo 1.2 gt tsi with dsg.....8 yrs and around 97000km. No issues till now. It is very smooth transmission. But now I too get a feel it has started to give some issues in transmission like missing very rarely on high rpm...... I have always serviced in vw only and on time.......but I am not sure whether this missing is transmission related or something else.....you really have made nice video on dsg even though I drove it for 97000 km but still wish I could have known this before hand........I am planning to buy new dsg too keep these details in mind
Pro tip for maintaining a dq200 even if it is a recently one 1st) make sure to use manual shirts in bumper to bumper or normal traffic, steep surface 2nd) if youre parking on slop or steep first engage the hand brand with brake pedal pressed then shift it to parking 3rd) put the gear box in neutral at stops 4th) do not launch control slightly move it and you can push the car 5th) do not give the car in the hands of an unprofessional driver no matter who it is Enjoy!
correction on 2nd Point is: (applies to all cars AT/DSG/Manual/CVT/AMT/DCT etc) When parking on mild or steep slope follow this order: ( or even when parking normally ) 1) B-Pedal is full pressed ( B-Pedal is Brake Pedal ) 2) Engage Parking Brake 3) Release B-Pedal IMPORTANT --- Let the car settle with the parking brake 4) Shift the gear Lever to P ( for A/T or DSG ) or engage 1st or Reverse Grear for Manual (depending on the slope direction, 1st if car is in upward slope and Reverse if Car is in downward slope ) 5) Stop the engine And follow this order when starting the car: 1) Press the B-Pedal fully 2) In case of Manual Gear Box, Press the Clutch Fully and put the gear to Neutral 3) Start the engine. 4) Take out the Gear Lever from P to D/R ( for DSG/AT ), in case of Manual Put the Gear in 1st/Reverse 5) Release the Hand Brake 6) Release the B-Pedal and start driving (In case of manual release the clutch too ) Follow this steps and you can't damage the Gear Locking Pin which is engaged when set to P ( for AT/DSG etc )
The main reason for the infamous failure of the DQ200 when paired with 1.5 TDI is the actual torque of the 1.5 TDI usually spikes above 250nm, and as the DQ200 has the torque limit of 250nm. If drove sensibly, I think DQ200 should have lesser reliability issue.
My requirement was an automatic sedan and test drove all manufacturers and Vw/Skoda out shined of them all and then there was a confusion of 1.0 TC or 1.5 DSG and test drove both extensively and I felt 1.0 TC initial response and in gear acceleration was quicker when compared to 1.5 DSG which is very laggy in city or medium traffic and 1.0TC seems to be quicker , smooth and responsive. And finally Got Slavia 1.0TC , seems a good decision as I never ever cross above 110-120 which is more for our Indian road with such high population , 1.5DSG outshines after 100kmph and pulls like mad horse😂 At times my heart says I could have got 1.5 DSG and after watching this video I’m happy to say that my purchase 1.0 TC was worth it for long term without any fuss!
I wouldn't agree that the gearbox is problematic. It isnt the old DQ200 gearbox version that were known to be headache worldwide. It is much much reliable these days. I would definitely suggest people to go for DSG. There was an issue earlier but now most of the problems have been eliminated. Not completely though there are still small issues but negligible. Needs good maintenance. Very few cases now just like any other type of gearboxes failures from other manufacturers. Say 10years back there were lot of failures and now its very low. So what they have done is they have changed from synthetic oil to a mineral oil because of the very low sulphur content which won't deposit and cause overheating. VW has updated with newer and better quality mechanical parts .Also they have a new software that they have updated that controls the mechatronics in a better way. There's no overheating because of this. And it controls the wear and tear and prolongs the life of the gearbox. VW wouldn't have still continued if problems still existed. Dq200 is a very good gearbox.
I have a Skoda Octavia 1.8 TSI with the DQ200. I've had her for 6 years. I have driven my Octavia for 130k km. I haven't have had any issues with the transmission so far. Touch Wood. Every 15k km i have serviced it at Skoda. These cars need care. Nothing has failed on my car in the took me off my ownership. Love the powertrain. 💙
This is the key. Timely care prolong life of Car not only service but caring while driving also. Suprising 130k KMs without any issue in DSG is kind of lucky moment seems you starched the gearbox to its lifespan limits. Paring this DSG with TSI engine is good combo !
I am having a really bad experience with VW service. I own a virtus 1.5 gt, bought it may2023. I have clocked in close to 27000km now. My nightmare started at around 13k kms i started getting random clunking sound when gear shifts from 1 to 2. This usually happens when driving on bad roads, the car just drops the gear to first and then when shifting to 2nd i can listen to this sound with heavy jerk. At 17k got a transmission error and had to replace the mechatronics unit. My car had to spend more than a month in the service centre. Post that i was hoping that atleast the clunking sound would go away but nope till today this sound keeps on bothering me. I have tried moving in manual mode in bumper to bumper traffic even then i can still listen to this. Its almost like something is breaking inside. VW service centres dont touch the car until the car reports some error. I have visited multiple service centres 8 times, again no use they just brush it off saying this is normal.😓😢 Took my car to code6 carmed bangalore they told me that it might be some issue with the clutch and only the service guys can help me out.😢 Cant help it. Im just driving it till smthg breaks. VW warranty can only help me now.😫
I do agree with your experience with DSG. This DSG is very quick and give driver another level of experience you wont feel gear shifting. Sometimes gearshift after 2nd took longer rpm that thing I'm worrying. Also I recently face gearbox overheating issue in my vento 1.5 dsg during uphill stop and go traffic i felt gear sleep and loss of power. When traffic was released I took almost half an hour break and later i felt the car was running normally. Yes I felt the first time it was a ticking bomb 😅 My vento clocked 125000 km till now and i have changed only flywheel and mechatronic fluid and transmission fluid only.
Yes that powerloss issue i also faced once. Turbo spooling stops at that point and car go in pure Sedate mode. But after some cooldown it goes back to normal. This issue only people with real DSG owners knows.
So the power loss is mainly due the new software which controls the mechatronics to reduce to excessive wear, so it disengages the clutch to protect it. You would see power loss but it would ensure the gearbox life. It would still be a probelm but thats the reason behind the power loss.
Super valuable insights. I could feel the dq200 of my old 1.5 diesel vento giving away. It started missing shifts and behaving erratically sometimes. Luckily I sold it on time.
Bhai my budget is 15-16 lakh max upon streching, I am confused b/w slavia / Kushaq / Virtus.mostly I will be driving in city traffic/ bad roads. I will appreciate if could suggest exact variant which I should be focusing.
Very well explained in the video about the problems and the situation with the DQ 200 I Daily drive a Skoda Octavia 1.8 TSI automatic, which comes with DQ 200 and I have been driving this car since past seven years, it is the facelifted model and it has clocked over 1,37,000 km in the odometer and I haven’t faced any sort of gearbox issue with the DQ 200. I live in a place where there is huge amount of rain in the monsoons and there is continuous waterlogging in front of my house and I take out my car through that itself, but I haven’t faced any sort of issues till now and when it comes to the slip, age of gears, which is associated with the clutch now I haven’t faced that too, so I can say that they were problems with the DQ 200 in the initial days, mainly with a diesel because of the torque spike, which the diesel engines get, but since the petrol engines do not get that torque spike and along with the modifications to the gearbox by VW and Skoda and with all the measures taken place to stop the problems. I can confidently say that now the DQ 200 gearbox is a pretty reliable one because I have experienced it myself and I haven’t faced any sort of problems with regards to gearbox nor the engine or any sort of those things, and I haven’t got a chance to replace the clutch or the flywheel or Electronics two in spite of running for around 1,37,000 km.
Had booked Virtus GT plus but later bought Jeep compass diesel 9AT instead. Primarily our reason for going to compass was independent rear suspension and rear disc brakes, and we liked the interior as well. We plan to keep the car for as long as we can. We knew that in Virtus, DSG may have some heating issues, but didn't know about these water related issues. So earlier we were ready that we will take good care, drive well and the gearbox may be fine, but after listening to what you are telling, I feel like that car might be troublesome in the the long run. Because few years ago we took our manual accord through some water on the road and the water went into it's clutch, for a km or two it started slipping but later became normal, but DSG could have failed in such scenario.
If water gets inside DSG it will brake the flywheel 101% and damage the whole damn thing. If water wading thing is the primary scenario of yours then for sure virtus dsg cant be reliable in that case at all

There reliability has far improved in2.0 cars , Taigun/kushaq were launched 2.5 years ago and I’ve not seen or read about any DQ200 issues on these cars. I think VW has worked on heat dissipation and also because since these are TSI ENGINES that helps .
yes its pretty much robust combo now. But as i said in video out of 1000 owner only 1 report issue online of DSG. So its kind of a thing that new user should prepare for because ultimately its delicate box and needed to be taken care.

Drove a Polo GT TSI DSG for 8 years. Point is, the DSG is a far better gearbox than any at this price point and best part is everyything is covered in warranty so any problems it is replaced. Mine conked off around 1 lac KM and it was fixed. So if you intend on keeping the cars more than the Extended Warranty I would stay away from it, if not then this is the best money can buy.

DCT is similar to DSG interms of using dual clutch. But DSG is used in VW cars. DCT has lower torque tolerance because of the heat buildup. This causes issues and needs regular maintenance, otherwise gearbox failure. Both gearboxes have issues in their own way.
as long as you learn how to drive it, specially in bumper to bumper traffic, you will have no problems at all. I own a golf tsi 1.4 with dq200 gearbox. 2018 year

Pro tip for maintaining a dq200 even if it is a recently one
1st) make sure to use manual shirts in bumper to bumper or normal traffic, steep surface
2nd) if youre parking on slop or steep first engage the hand brand with brake pedal pressed then shift it to parking
3rd) put the gear box in neutral at stops
4th) do not launch control slightly move it and you can push the car
5th) do not give the car in the hands of an unprofessional driver no matter who it is
Enjoy!
Good tip.
Wow.. even Vw showroom guys don't know these.. thanks a ton
correction on 2nd Point is: (applies to all cars AT/DSG/Manual/CVT/AMT/DCT etc)
When parking on mild or steep slope follow this order: ( or even when parking normally )
1) B-Pedal is full pressed ( B-Pedal is Brake Pedal )
2) Engage Parking Brake
3) Release B-Pedal
IMPORTANT --- Let the car settle with the parking brake
4) Shift the gear Lever to P ( for A/T or DSG ) or engage 1st or Reverse Grear for Manual (depending on the slope direction, 1st if car is in upward slope and Reverse if Car is in downward slope )
5) Stop the engine
And follow this order when starting the car:
1) Press the B-Pedal fully
2) In case of Manual Gear Box, Press the Clutch Fully and put the gear to Neutral
3) Start the engine.
4) Take out the Gear Lever from P to D/R ( for DSG/AT ), in case of Manual Put the Gear in 1st/Reverse
5) Release the Hand Brake
6) Release the B-Pedal and start driving (In case of manual release the clutch too )
Follow this steps and you can't damage the Gear Locking Pin which is engaged when set to P ( for AT/DSG etc )
Last tip extend warranty to maximum

Is it better to go for 1.5 MT instead of DSG ?? As I'm already using MT and i always like to drive Manuals Only.. !!
Have you bought and which one?
Wow Bro great insights learned so many new things from this video. Thanks man it was a great informative video. Keep Growing and fan of all the raw POVs of yours. Keep Growing 😊😊😊
Thanks bro glad it was informative to you! Keep supporting :)
One of the honest reviewer Bhai👍
Sir i am planning to buy a manual virtus.. does manual have any issues.. i am going to keep it for atleast 10 yrs.. is 1.O is enough for the long run.. thank you..
Yes 1.0 tsi with manual is robust in longerun.
i want high speed stability on highways and driving pleasure..what to buy harrier or virtus/Taigun ?
Tgn
You will hate it but love it. The pain of love 🤣🤣
No pain No Gain haha :D
I have been using a POLO GT TSI since Jan 2015, almost 10 yrs but have done only 55k on the Odometer so faar, till now didn't face any issues with the DSG, but I have that fear In future I may face issues, and get stranded in the middle of nowhere while traveling so have been thinking to replace my GT TSI and get a new car as it been quite a while now ...😂
What's ur advice?
Do i have to worry about water splashing on mechatronic or anything else if I opt for manual
Is i20 n line dct the same gearbox ur talking about?? Nd is n line dct reliable??
DCT is similar to DSG interms of using dual clutch. But DSG is used in VW cars. DCT has lower torque tolerance because of the heat buildup. This causes issues and needs regular maintenance, otherwise gearbox failure. Both gearboxes have issues in their own way.
Thanks for sharing deep insight and making video!
Glad it helped thanks for supporting !
Proud owner of Virtus 1.5 , if you want mileage light foot works and can give up to 14kmpl in city
Dsg or mt? How many kms done

Thanks brother :)
Nice video and very knowledgeable! Keep making such videos.
Thanks brother. Glad it helped. keep supporting.
Bro i have booked Virtus GT 1.5 dsg , should i take extended warranty and RSA now itself ,or later ? Whats best
now itself. take the full warranty pack. and extend to 10 years when the option to do that comes up
If you getting discounts on new purchase grab it now without a doubt !
as long as you learn how to drive it, specially in bumper to bumper traffic, you will have no problems at all. I own a golf tsi 1.4 with dq200 gearbox. 2018 year
Is it normal to work the cooling fan after engine is off for some time?
I want to purchase my first car, currently practicing with an old wagonR.
Which one would you recommend Honda City or Virtus/Slavia? Also manual or automatic?
Bro cant answer that !
Honda city
Sir, I want to buy used sedan..altis/superb/civic. Kindly suggest.
Go with civic or superb less driven car.

Bro I bought new virtus GT but showroom people gave me RAT bitten car where gear knob is damage and ambient light was not working now they have repair and have given back car. Will it cause any future problem please reply
Until unless the rat hole is covered and fixed properly it won’t cause any further problems but if there is a loose wire or some other problems with the repairs by the manufacturer but if everything is going alright it won’t cause further problem in future
If there is no damage to the Cable there is no need for worry
Bhai tata mahindra ki gadi me Manual transmission me battrey bahar se lagwaa sakte hain koi problem to ni hogi.... Warranty khatm hai
Bro I also own virtus 1.0 automatic and after turning iff engine my car starts to make sound like engine is still on. Does you or anyone have faced same issue?
I guess Torque converter turbine is rotating
Deep do
One thing tint all windows and it’s looks amazing
The best review bro, very helpful…
Glad it helped keep supporting !
Reliability is everything
I bought a GT TSI in 2015 .. it still runs on stock DQ200 even after 9 years
TSI + DSG is good!
Whats the secret recipe?
Good Review on DSG automatic Deep Singhal ji.CVT of Honda and Toyota what is your view on that please advise.DCA of Tata curvv which is actually DCT.I drove CVT honda and toyota out side india for seven years but never faced any issue or extra service cost.🙏
Hello Nitin. To be true i cant guide you on any other cars and gearbox!
My brother I really appreciate your genuineness and if your knowledge can help others you can decide to take this as a hobby or one part time profession to start with.👍
Bro can you please guide me what to do ??
As I have bought vw virtus gt plus edge pearl black same model as yours on august 6 and it’s already 3000 kms on odometer but engine oil low indication is coming .
Is it normal or some faulty issues ??
It is normal, you have to top up your engine oil from service centre
normal. keep 1 quart of engine oil always in the car. however since its relatively new, please get it checked.
Get top up from ASC on priority basis!

How is 1lt TC ?
Virtus ya harrier??
Ia this the case with manual as well? Or just the dsg is a risky bate?
Manual is robust. Dsg is good and will run fine if maintained well as mentioned above.
Being my first vw car i am not willing to take that risk and would go for the manual, Thanks for the info bro.I will update here once I get it.

Thik to buy kushaq 1.0 mt. Is it okay?
Yes bro 101% ok!
Ky ye sab problems virtus GT 1.5 manual me aayengi
DSG mai bhi ni aayegi dhyaan rkhoge toh. And manual mai toh aani ni!
Can we put exide battery in slavia dsg
You can but dont put if you have no good contacts in workshop!
Don't do anything outside of dealership, one person changed his battery out of dealership and his mechatronic blew up
Bhai how's manual gearbox reliability?
no issues at all. have owned Laura for 10 years till I sold. Never changed clutch. Some advised to change transmission oil, but never got around to that. although I did develop turbo leak in the 8th or 9th year

Pehle ke DSG me aur modern DSG me farak toh hain.
Mai isko heavy rain aur kharab se kharab sadak (with a lot og stones and gravel) me chala chuka hu. Nothing has happened.
Ofcourse maintenance karna important hain. Doesn't matter which car you drive.
Tuning mai improvement h. Rest prone to risk is always there with this box. Its good that you are lucky enough not to have any problem yet !
This gearbox won't bother you if you keep it stock. But it truly robbs from the tuning/modding experience for which you get a car like this. Don't bother taking it over 250nm
What about 1.5 manual ?
Manual are robust then Automatics anyday !
Please buy 1.5 manual only...my taigun Gt auto mumbai city average 9 kmpl..heavy traffic 8 ..highway 13
Why would u even buy that 😂😂
Good mileage :D
Virtus GT lene ka bahut man tha , par ab Thar he lunga😊
Bhaiya isliye i will choose manual over dsg
This is the best informative video on DSG that I have ever seen.
bhai fir bhi dsg liya apne ? 😅 … personally I prefer cvt > dsg > tc under 20 lakhs and sensibly chlani ho ie under 120 ….agar udaani hai gaadi fir dsg first choice in automatics ….Stilll Manual ka mzza inse upar jo mzza khud downshift rev matching ka woh dsg se bhi nhi aa skta
CVT is big no for me either aram se chalani ho ya bhagani ho it makes your car feel like four-wheeler activa. DSG then TC is my prefrence.

@@PapaSierraGolf True !
So basically driving this car in manual mode makes more sense inside the city!
Nah its not like that.
👍
thanks for keeping It real. !!!
Glad you found it useful !
So basically we should not launch it aggressively
VW made a relatively good software updates which will handle more of the aggressive situations. But as an consumer to prolong life of DSG we should avoid hard launches.

DSG 200 is nt for weak hearted people my rapid already clocked 1.90 km n currently m riding on 3rd clutch n max age of DSG is 70K mine first was replaced at 76k so come out.of that maruti mentality n enjy driveing with DSG best gear box ....
I was aware of the fact tat life of DSG is not more than 70k
Deep down
what about hilly areas??.. I live in Himachal Pradesh
For hilly area DSG will wear out soon for sure !
Conclusion: Buy a Manual instead of DQ200
❤
Yeh kya keh raha hai ye banda? This DSG gearbox is not that fast. BMW, Mercedes uses TC in their cars which are faster than this junk unreliable DSG.
Banda toh shi khe rha h. Tu bmw mercedes k tuned tc ko virtus k dsg se compare kr rha h toh kuch toh problem aap k sochne mai.
