I love this; I’m not that great at stitch in the ditch either. I’m not a big fan of the long-arm quilting because it’s so tight. This is perfect because it preserves that softness. I know long-armed quilts will soften up over time, but I guess I’m really old school 😊. Thank you for sharing that cool offset option!!!

Thanks to your video, I now feel ready to dip my toe in the quilting sea and make my first quilt! This method looks beginner-friendly as well as wonderful to behold.
I learned this technique from my MIL long time ago. But I do it even easier. Cut one square exactly in 1/2 and add 1/2 half to odd rows in the left side, and 1/2 square to the even rows on the right side. After sewing all rows will be equal ( you know… more or less 😉🤪)
Great tip, Gigi! Then we can take it one step further by adding 1/2 block on the end of every row as we chain stitch. The simply flip every other row so they alternate sides. Good morning, Lea Louise! This is a wonderful idea! Adds new interest/dimension to a quilt. I did this method this week on side borders of a log cabin panel quilt top for the charity quilts of my quilt guild. I did two rows on both sides using 3.5 by 6.5 inch rectangles. I was given the panel in a kit from the guild. Now the width measures 36 inches. For the top and bottom borders, they are slightly offset. I wanted to add in fabrics that highlight living in the wilds of Alaska. Moose, fish ponds, forget me not flowers. The top two rows are each 2.5 inches wide. Aurora Borealis colors. The charm pack fabrics are so beautiful, I hate to cut them up! This IS the quilt pattern I'll be using; problem solved! I agree with you - stitching in the ditch is not my favorite either. I’m much better at stitching a quarter inch away from the ditch. Great video.

I’m confused about the math. Wouldn’t just cutting a charm in half give you 2, 2 1/2” pieces and the rows would come out even but off set?

Yes, it is easier. The downside for me is that I do not like the look of it. I like your enthusiasm though.
