I have been watching your You Tube Video about fabric What to do with it and Storage. I am 89 and I have been sewing a lot since my husband and son died 16 years ago. I am alone most of the time and have 3 rooms of sewing stuff. Your video is the most enjoyable I have seen in a long long time. Thank You for making and showing all of us quilters this.
I have had the dilemma of suddenly having leftovers from finished quilts and didn't know what to do with all of the various sizes of fabric remnants, and odds and ends of bindings. Your video is extremely helpful for fabric management and usage tips. As a new quilter, your wisdom and experience will get me on the right path of fabric management, before my stash gets out of control. I have made seven quilts. I started in January. I have a self imposed moratorium of fabric purchases until I get my Christmas sewing completed. Thank you.
Thank you, thank you! For me, the "Aha!" moment was the idea of wrapping my fabric around the ruler! I can see a Saturday with wine glass in hand, wrapping and wrapping. Will be a great space organizer.
I love coming across intelligent and knowledgeable quilters. I have an ask. Instead of thousands of videos on how to store scraps, use scraps, use smaller scraps, we need pattern makers to keep the stress of owning scraps in mind when designing quilts. Please design with less waste and with the pattern add a small project that you can make with the scraps. Fabric has become very expensive; let’s try not to waste it.
I wonder whether you have come across a website called Inklingo? This is a program which you use with your inkjet printer and reusable A4 waxed not glued paper that prints the blocks onto the front of the fabric. It maximises the design placement resulting in minimal wastage. Once the fabric has the block printed on the paper can be removed and you can cut out with scissors or with a rotary cutter. The fabric that has the shape ringed on it has 1/4” seam lines etc as well so that you can do needle turn or sew by machine.
You're just delightful, Cindy. I learn so much from you and the way you deliver reminds me of spending time with my bestie, and we'll both be in my kitchen making stuff and passing on tips on how to, when to, where to . . . . . you get what I mean! Be happy from Oz. Suzie
Wow! I took 2 pages of notes from this video, subscribed and liked all at the same time. This was a very informative video for me. I have been sewing all of my teen and adult life, but I am a beginner quilter (almost a beginner). I guess you could call me a learner because I haven't made my first quilt yet, but I am going to glean as much knowledge as I can from wonderful quilters like you. Thank you for sharing all of your fabric storing tips.
OMGoodness! I stumbled upon this channel trying to go somewhere else. Boy am I ever happy I did. I've been trying for several weeks to figure out how to store my fabric. I your tips really resonated with me. Thanks and I will subscribe too!😊
My stash is growing and I haven't made a quilt yet!! I am also a Knitter so you can imagine the stash of wool I have too!! No hope for me!! I used to sew clothes for me and my children for years! Can't wait to get started! Sewing machine serviced and ready to go!! X
Thank you, thank you, now I know how I can organize all those off cuts that are clogging up my cupboard and bins. This was one of the best stash videos for organization.
I just rewatched this and boy am I glad that I did. Since my last viewing (3 yrs ago) I seem to have collected tubs and tubs of leftovers. Thanks for keeping this available, now I remember what to do with them all to regain floor and work space.
I think you were talking directly to ME!! Especially at the end when you talked about whims! That was a great video to get me started in reorganizing my fabric! Thank you! 😘

I’m in the middle of cleaning and reorganizing my quilt room and fabric, and have watched probably close to 100 UA-cam videos on fabric storage, and yours is absolutely the most helpful of all. Thanks so much for sharing so much info on fabric storage!
The fabric patch, I would like to order fabric monthly if they're is away to order your fabric. I love some fabulous kinds I can't find in small town or Wal-Mart .. like yours. How can I contact to order?? Ty
Need fabric? Need doesn't have anything to do with it! Want, I want it, it brings me joy! If I never make anything with it, I go to the quilting room, rearrange, iron, fold, and fondle my fabric. And sigh with pleasure when I leave, satisfied and content!
@@chantalbooysen6231 Me too! I have to sneak the fabric into the house and my house has started to recognize the bags so have to be really sneaky. Any free time I have I'll pop into the fabric store, so crazy.

My house is currently being renovated and this is the easiest solution for me right now. Thank you for sharing that - now I don't feel so bad.
Thank you for your video. I really liked your methodology for fabric purchasing and storage. I have 4 large bookcases in my sewing room stacked with fabric in no logical order. It is frustrating when I know I have a cut of fabric and cannot find it. Also I would love to reorganize the fabric so I can see and shop in my fabrics. This was the second of your videos I watched. Thank you for sharing so much practical, useful knowledge and tips! I really like your presentation style!
I am enjoying your videos. Always inspiring and informative. Wish I lived closer to your shop. 😂probably couldn’t be much further away seeing I live in Vermont.
Hello my name is Marian mazer and I live in Audubon Park South Jersey and I am a quilter I loved your information I am amazed that you roll the fabric with the ruler that is very interesting I do keep my fabric in the tub and I am grateful for the information about the little packet that you keep because true to your word this the fabric does have a little bit of an odor after it's been in the total while thank you so much I enjoyed your video thank you again bye for now
It was helpful to hear the amounts of yardage needed at the beginning. I like the way you fold large pieces. I may copy that. I don't save fabric bits either. I also cut left over fabric into 5", 10" and jelly strips and allow myself one tote of stashed scraps. Then I keep turning the irregular scraps into scrappy blocks until I have enough blocks for a quilt and I use the cuts for baby quilts for charity. Thank you for a well done, concise video of useful info.
Great info. I need to train myself to not be distracted while I organize. I start and at the end of the day I have 3 new projects pulled and still messy shelves. More willpower needed. Thanks
In knitting we refer to the distraction as seeing a squirrel. How about setting a timer? Justgetitdone UA-cam channel suggests a setting a timer (15min 🤷♀️). You will get something organized. Plus, have a notebook handy for jotting down creative thoughts while organizing.
Just found your video. I've watched a lot of store you stash type videos but the comments made me sure I wanted to watch yours. I use tubs in a different way but I've never used any desiccant packs in the them. I'm always saving them as they work better than rice for wet electronics so now I can't wait to go home and put them in my tubs! Also excited to use my ruler to fold fabric for storage. Thank you. Jumping Jiminy Cricket! That was a great video. I wish you were my neighbor. 😊 So many ideas that never occurred to me. Especially to NOT store my fabric in boxes. Keep up the great work. ❤
Cindy, this is by far the best, unequivocally, video I’ve seen about anything. My husband just built me a cutting table for Valentine’s Day and I’ve been trying to store the fabric in color ways so that I know what I have. This video gave me lots of ideas. Especially the 6 x 24 folding method. I already have a bin I throw my scraps in and am getting ready to go through again. I also have just moved and now have a sewing loft so am unboxing fabric that I forgot I had. I don’t just quilt, but also do fashion sewing and home dec sewing so this gave me lots of ideas. Thanks so much and keep doing these amazing videos!!!
You know what I hated the most? Using a brand new piece of fabric and then trying to fold it back just the way the store had it so nicely done - not ever happening!!! - LOL! That ruler folding is the coolest trick ever! This was greatest beginner tutorial yet. I am getting ready to sort all my bags from the stores. For now, since I don't go out, it will have to be big bin or see through Zip Lock bags made for storage. Thank you every so very much!
I’m not a quilter per se but I was still able to collect a lot of useful information from this video. I will definitely try your ruler method of folding fabrics. Thank you for sharing your expertise. 😊
Thank you. This was very helpful as I need to get my fabric stash under control and didn't know where to start. Just found your shop/channel in the last week or so and have learned a lot!
Thank you for this very helpful video! Found you on 2024! Great tips and loved seeing your family and shop. I'm on the East coast so I'm grateful to watch your channel.
Thank you so much for sharing this! I am busy trying to organise my fabrics and never thought of using my 24” ruler to make them into neater blocks. I also liked the plastic container boxes you have used.
I am so glad I found you when we were trying to figure out the mask craziness. I absolutely love your tips and care in giving us the info we need. You are like a great friend that I love visiting with!
I recently got all my fabric out of tubs (well almost all) and out where I can actually see it. I fold my yardage around my ruler like you do and then store it in 1 yd - 2 yd - 3 yd or more shelves. I have bins for my leftovers cut into 2-1/2 strips sorted by color. We currently have a basket of 2-1/2 squares also but that's because my great grandsons are working on Minecraft projects with me. Your stash is beautiful and I don't have any where near what you have. Slowly working my way through it all so my granddaughter (who unfortunately does not quilt) won't have to deal with it. But I keep buying more for some reason. Those Friday unboxings are killing me. Thank you for sharing
Very informative. I keep my fabric in large tubs, mainly. I do have three quilts being worked on, and they are in their own containers. One is all paper pieced and I need to bring that tub into my living room, so I can take all the paper off the back, before I sew the squares together. "(It is what I call a pineapple quilt). That may be its official name, but I'm not sure. Thanks for sharing what you've learned over the years. I'"ve been quilting for about 35 years, when I was sewing for my two daughters. I sewed many doll clothes, including for Barbie, and started piecing bits together to make quilts for their dolls. I ended up making doll wardrobes for my friends; daughters, and even had some in a consignment shop. But now, I would say that making Irish Chains and paper pieced are my favorite to do. Again, thanks so much!
Best tutorial ever on how to organize your stash. My stash is similar (not as much of course), been quilting since 1994.i like your folding method better than mine.easier and quicker and more precice. Thank you for the tutorial.
Do it WOMAN! women take charge, women make no excuses ...for your skill or your ability to make incredibly awesome beautiful work ...two are the same as men when creating art or what men think might be art. Move out of the way boys we are taking both steps to make up for the past when we were belittled and under the thumb of those that never could compete with us, THE WOMEN, IN THE FIRST PLACE!
Very helpful, thanks a bunch! I’m already in bed for the night, but I’m tempted to get up and cut something, lol! Also, I have a section in my fabric cabinets marked UFOs, (un-finished objects)! The goal is to keep them to one shelf or less. And, I encourage everyone to create the storage space they need! We deserve it!
Getting ready to declutter and organize for the new year and look forward to implementing your ideas especially about what to do with leftovers from completed projects and storing yardage. Appreciate your calm way or explaining things. Thanks!
Thank you for all the wonderful ideas....wish I had as much space to place my materials.....great ideas with the baskets...will give it a go....Mary (Australia)

Great ideas. I have been sewing for years and built up a sizeable stash when I worked at a fabric store. Now that I am retired I have been redoing my sewing room. Thanks so much for such good advice.
Thanks Cindi for a very informative video, I especially liked hearing about how much fabric we should buy, as I never know what to get, I now feel so much better informed for my next fabric shopping spree
Love your show I’ve been making a list of items to use in my new sewing room. What do you call the board you can just put the material quits on back board who sal s it or the name of it?
I use tubs for 3 1/2, 4 1/2 , 5 1/2” squares or for colors... I keep collections together or if I bought to make a quilt! I’m so happy I got organized... took me over a week but we’ll worth it!! Thanks for the ideas
I just reorganized my quilting room. My husband and my daughter and son-in-law gave me their time on two separate occasions and were so great with their suggestions. But what you have shown with fabric was never touched upon! I love organizing so this excites me! Can’t wait to put my 6” x 24” ruler to work ! Thank you for this video.

...two are the same as men when creating art or what men think might be art. Move out of the way boys we are taking both steps to make up for the past when we were belittled and under the thumb of those that never could compete with us, THE WOMEN, IN THE FIRST PLACE!
Great tips and explanations...where were you ten years ago when I needed this talk? ;-)
That ruler trick is wonderful!
Very helpful as I'm just starting to collect a scrap stash. Thanks so much.

THANK YOU for the trick of using the 6x24 ruler as the "bolt". My stash takes up SO MUCH less space this way!
Love the folding tip on the 6x24 ruler

-> Keep fabric organized on open, viewable shelves.
-> Fold all fabrics with same size ruler.
I will be able to see all my pretties. Then Be Inspired to use them. I will be re-watching this video. TY

I have been quilting for 2 years, love fabric, and have tons of it!
Especially left overs.
Thank you!
Great helpful video. No one ever told me how to organize my fabric other than a quilt kit waiting or by color. Thanks for sharing all your great ideas.
Thank you! That was a big help. I am in awe of your stash! Makes my 2 shelves look pitiful. 😂
Lol. I think you get more done than me though! You are a force!
This is my second video of yours I have watched. So helpful
I’m glad! Thank you
Great ideas. I have been sewing for years and built up a sizeable stash when I worked at a fabric store. Now that I am retired I have been redoing my sewing room. Thanks so much for such good advice.

This was really very helpful thank you so much. Maybee the most helpful video on what to do with my stash scraps that I have seen yet, so thank you.
