Quilting has always been the most creative craft for me,one can literally make a million things with quilting.I just got into the quilting space and I love it here,I’m giving knitting a break to focus and learn more in quilting.
Hoping to learn more things on here, shares ideas and make new quilting friends.
Leave a ❤ if you love to make a new quilting friend 👋
You are very right fred,I just got into quilting and I must say I love it here,it's nice to see more men knit and quilt
I would love to be a quilting friend too, what social media platform do you display your works?

As for shop advice, in addition to all the excellent suggestions you made, I would say that it’s important to move older fabrics out on clearance sales, bundle sales, etc. Our LQS has had a lot of the same fabric I saw as a new customer there eight years ago. I’ve looked at some of those pokey old fabric selvages and found dates 20+ years old! Shops shouldn’t have a ‘stash’, they need to turn over those fabrics to keep customer interest alive! 😂
I totally agree. I go to a shop nearby that has fabrics and other things for YEARS. They even smell musty. Not sure why they don’t put on sale to get rid of so newer things can take their place.
Thank you! That is great advice.
Coriander Quilts, thank you for selecting my question. I was completely shocked when I heard my name. You gave me ideas that I never thought about doing. I didn’t realize Amish Country was your area. I was at a quilt retreat at Somewhere Sewing for a week in August and will be back at another one in November. The area is only two to two and a half hours from my driveway. Thank you for all the other people who offer me advice. All are great ideas and things to do and avoid keeping old fabric.
@@christaldehart7281 good luck to you!
@@christaldehart7281 I thought it was such a great question! (and a fun one to answer) Enjoy your next visit to our area!---it's such a great spot for quilters, isn't it. =)
Oh my! I grew up watching my grandmother and great grandmother quilt, and loved them! I am 65 (almost), and had never learned to sew, but always wanted to quilt. While in a shop with my MIL in 2015, I chatted with one of the ladies working there, and she helped me pick fabric and the Yellow Brick Road pattern. That was my very first quilt. I now have 3 sewing machines, an embroidery machine, and a closet full of fabric. Full fledged addiction, wouldn’t have it any other way!
Oh that is such a fun story!
@@CorianderQuilts I should have mentioned a lot of that fabric comes from your line, which I absolutely adore! Sorry I messed up my timeline a bit, that date should be 2005… just off by about 10 years!
YES, I have made a “Yellow Brick Road”. Love that pattern! I also love your videos Corey! You make me feel like I’m right there with you and part of your “friend group”. Looking forward to seeing what you make for your daughter!
I'm so glad you feel that way Elaine!...we have such a fun quilty group of friends here, don't we. =)
It's wonderful that you encouraged her to select her own fabrics! I can relate to how exciting it is when our kids share an interest in what we love. She will treasure this!
It was fun to see what she picks. =)
What precious memories you are creating! Elonie's interest in quilting is wonderful, at least in my opinion!
It's been fun to see her picks!
My husband is also a quilter and we visited Love It Sew yesterday. I would have loved to visit on Monday but had other obligations. We live about an hour south of Indianapolis and our daughter lives about 10 minutes from Love It Sew, so she met us at the shop, we bought some fabric (including Coriander Colors) and went to lunch with her. It was just a delightful trip and a delightful day.
It was so fun to spend time at Love it Sew...it was wonderful meeting and chatting with so many quilters and the new shop is just beautiful!
Yellow Brick Road and Just Can’t Cut it…so much fun to make and always look amazing.
Such great go-tos. =)
Thank you so much for the shop suggestions. I love your fabrics and spotlight them often in our shop. I also love your patterns. The trip you took with your daughter is so cool. I have done those things with my daughters and they really remember them.
You're so welcome!....and thank you so much for carrying my fabrics!
It is going to be so fun following the creation of Elonie's quilt! "Dethreading" -- I call this giving the quilt top "a shave" . . . I fold the quilt top into sections, inside out so I'm working on the back, place it on my lap and trim all threads, a section at a time, while watching TV or sitting out on the deck. I keep a little plastic container nearby for the clipped threads. I could do the same with the front, but found I don't have that many threads on the front and that I can tend to those while pressing the top prior to quilting. To me, this makes the task less overwhelming and less tedious.
Giving it a shave indeed! =)
I love the snowman quilt-so cute. I also love the fabric your daughter picked out for her quilt and I hope we get to see the progress and finished quilt. That would be fun. Great video today. Thank you.
I will be sure to share it!...she's actually already finished it since filming that video!
What a wonderful trip for you and Elonie! I hope her quilt turns out to be just what she wants, and she gets hooked!
We'll see what happens!
It was so much fun to meet you and Elonie at Plaid Sheep on Wednesday. I hope her quilt turns out as well as she imagines. Thank you for taking time to speak with us.
You as well!...it was fun chatting with you. =)
Nice fabrics that Elonie chose. Thanks for the pattern for Sept. It's so cute. 😊 Also, for not having a brick and mortar, you are very knowledgeable and gave great info and suggestions. Love your vids. ❤
I've been very surprised how much the videos I share here on UA-cam (which generally aren't focused on selling anything) have impacted my business. I know how much of an impact they can make to brick/mortar shops!
The yellow brick road quilt was my very first quilt I ever made. Took a quilting class and that was what I learned and ended up making many of them. I had never quilted before and my Mom and I took the class together. She ended up not enjoying it and I ended up loving quilting.
It's such a great pattern!
I love your Yellow Brick Road quilt and hope you’ll show us when you have it back from the quilter. 😊 I’m glad you talked more about the de-threading, I am one year in learning to quilt and have not done that. 😮 you are just amazing with how much detail you go into for the viewer question of the week! Such great ideas.
I'll need to share when I get it back (I also need to get my behind in gear and get it sent off!). =)
Corey you are a breath of fresh air, I'm sitting in a crowded airport waiting to fly home to the UK, and watching this is just perfect, your calm tones are just what I need, and throughout the years you've always answered my questions and even looked up things for me to help, thank you, I hope one day you can come to the festival of quilts in Birmingham, UK, so I and doubtless many more fans can thank you in person too ❤
This is so nice of you to say!...I'm glad I've been able to help you out. =)
I've been quilting for about 8 years now, started late in life, am 56 , have made loads of quilts for my home and now it's the first time my daughter, 27, has asked me to make her one to take with her as she's starting a new chapter, with her boyfriend in their new place. Picking up fabrics together is amazing, she showed me what she wanted, (a hearts applique quilt, scrappy backgrounds and super scrappy pinks for the hearts, she's always loved pink), so I'll be starting this next week. It's different from when I made quilts for her bed at our house, this is something she's actually looked at in Pinterest and I love the idea that she'll start this new chapter with a quilt, it just marks the occasion ❤
Have fun making it for her!
The Quilt you make for your daughter will be So Special, Something she will Cherish for Many Years. I would like to make a Yellow Brick Road Quilt because I love how it shows off all the fabric. I really like when you answer viewer questions.
She ended up making it herself (and she's finished it already!).
You had such great ideas for the quilt shop start up are sooo good. It made me want to go shop there. 🥰
Thanks so much!...there are so many fun ways quilt shops can share about their shop online. =)
Yes, I have made a, Yellow Brick Road, quilt. Enjoyed Elonie’s pick of fabrics for a quilt. Thank you for taking us on her journey. 🎉
It was fun to share her picks!
You are correct, I made a few yellow brick road quilts in the late 90’s.😂
It's such a great pattern!
I would love to see the quilt your mother made for you when you got married. Every quilt deserves to be finished. Get it done girl.😊
I need to share it!
Love the Yellow brick Road pattern! Have made several quilts with this pattern.
It's a great pattern!
Our quilt shop offered a BOM you pay for the first block and if you bring it in before the next block you only paid $7.50 for the next one, great program and gets people coming back every month! They also had show and tell on Saturday with giveaways
That’s different. I like that. Thank you.
This is such a great idea!
Oh - your daughter's choices reminds me completely of why I first got into quilting for myself. We stayed at my FIL's place in Alaska and we stayed in a room in his unfinished house up by Denali and on the bed was a denim squares quilt (maybe 6"?) with a red plaid backing and tied with red yard - each square - right in the middle. I thought it was so perfect for where we stayed and I fell in love at that point and wanted to reproduce it. So, I "get your child" 100%.
I think my aunt made me that same quilt!...it is a homey one. =)
One of my first quilts made was Yellow Brick Road. My very first quilt was a log cabin!
Your adventures with your daughters are priceless in the memory bank!
It was such a fun trip we took!...she asked if we could do it again soon. We just need to decide on our destination. =)
Great ideas about bringing people in to your quilt store via video!! I love the FQS Shoeing us all the new fabric lines. Sometimes the fabric isn’t even available for several months!!!
Those are fun videos to watch!
Yes I've made Yellow Brick Road quiltssss. So many that I don't remember them all. It has become my go-to pattern when I need a quick quilt.
It's such a great one!
Love It Sew! That's my local quilt store!! I live 2 miles from there in Avon. Great store, great people! Bought many yards of Peachy Keen from there!!
It's a beautiful shop and the new store is wonderful!
'Customer' viewer question response: I live in a rural area so quilt shops are always a drive and the most local ones to me don't necessarily stock a lot of what appeals to me. Because of this, I do a lot of online shopping for my fabric. I LOVE when I am able to search for fabric with the designer name or by color. Those have been two of the most helpful types of search for me. Two shops I used to go to regularly online switched to new computer systems about a year ago--one used to organize online by fabric line & the other by designer. As far as I can tell from my view of their sites, neither are organized in any type of theme now. One has a very effective search system but the second is so difficult to find things I have given up completely.
My favorite online shop has a great site that's easy to navigate, they hand write a brief note on every invoice & have interesting posts about projects or sales on social media and the BEST customer service & fast shipping.
I agree with Corey about the benefits of video but until you're comfortable with that, well written posts with great photos (wide shots as well as close-ups) always catch my eye.
Good luck!
Thank you.
This is all very helpful advice Marcy!...thanks for leaving this comment. =)
Love your comments for growing a quilt shop both online and brick and mortar. Love your personal and encouraging comments. Your videos are awesome. I traveled to your area for the Ohio Shop Hop and visited the Plaid Sheep Company. Lovely shop!
I thought that was such a fun question. =) I'm so glad you were able to visit our area...we have so many great quilt shops!
Love the snowman quilt, already downloaded and excited to plan for winter. Thank you
You're so welcome!
Yes! I have made several YELLOW BRICK ROAD quilts. I usually make them for a baby gift, in the smallest size and don’t add a border. Super quick and cute!,,
It's a great pattern!
Your pattern for Sept. is adorable! Thanks for offering it at such a deal!
You are so welcome!
OMG, I've made dozens of Yellow Brick Road quilts in all the sizes....gave a bunch away to family and friends. It's the first pattern I ever tried. I can make the throw size in my sleep LOL
It's a great pattern!
I loved hearing about you and your daughter's trip and stopping at all the local quilt/fabric stores! If you are ever in my area, there's a lovely little quilt shop, Whittle's Fabrics, that you should drop by. Their price per yard ranges between 5.95-7.95 per yard, with a large section of sale fabrics. Mammoth Cave Nat Park and the National Corvette Museum are within 20 minutes, so it's a nice day trip on a gorgeous fall day!
We had such a fun time! I have heard of Whittle's but I've never visited. =)
I’ve made a few yellow brick road quilts!! Great pattern!!
It really is!
Saw picture of you and Tammy Earnest, long arm quilter, on her channel. Love you "detreading" quilt top! Please send it to Tammy to finish. As Tammy says, " Every quilt is worth finishing. " Your daughter's colors are interesting and opposite of your colors. Isn't that how it goes?;) I see some connection to the quilt top you shared.
They are so different from the colors I choose now (but fairly similar to what I picked at her age). =)
Oh yes, Yellow Brick Road was one of my first ever!
What a fun trip and I enjoyed hearing about it!❤
It was such a fun trip!
Thank you love your quilts
You are so welcome!
Cory I love the pink chenille quilt. It is so different
Thanks so much!
I have made a Yellow Brick Road quilt! The pattern is near and dear to my heart because it is my first quilt pattern that my grandma bought for me when I first started quilting and she also helped me shop for the fabric. It is still only a quilt top, piecing was easy enough but finishing seemed far beyond my expertise at the time. As I grew in my abilities, new projects just kept pushing that first quilt top to the back burner. I really do need pull it out and finish it before I redecorate my bedroom that I picked fabrics to coordinate, I mean it's about time for an update, nearly 20 years later, lol!! Maybe I will even pull it out and work on it on Labor Day, which falls on my grandma's birthday this year.
Did you get a chance to work on it over the Labor Day weekend?
@@CorianderQuilts unfortunately no, but I was just thinking about it and thinking maybe I will get it out for this weekend!!
Yes I have made a Yellow Brick Road quilt! In fact, every time I went fabric shopping after that I would buy 6 coordinating fat quarters and the necessary yardage for the borders and binding to make a lap size quilt! I must have lots of fabric to make at least 30 different lap Yellow Brick Road quilts, if not more! Unfortunately no fabric for the backings….🥹
Hi 👋 Greetings from this side,I'm a knitter and I'm new in the quilting space and I'm trying to make quilt friends so we admire our works and share ideas,If you don't mind
They are fun to make!
Yessssss - my second quilt was a Yellow Brick Road. and I made it in Moda wovens and gave it to my BFF. It was my first gift of quilty love.
It's such a great pattern!
Thank you so much for your video. Appreciate your explanations on quilting topics and snippets of your family life. I so admire your abilities. Thank you.
You're so welcome!...thanks so much for watching!
I live in a small rural town. I like quilt shop sites that offer sign-up newsletters. These are sites that I like because I've gotten to know them, like their displays and what they carry, and have sales. Also text messages for sales. Thank you for the video 😊
Good ideas.
Newsletters are so nice!
Beautiful posting❤
Thanks 🤗
She has the best mom since she wants to start getting quilts and (maybe) quilting herself! Can't wait to see what you come up with. My artist eye would love to see what a lot of darks can do in a quilt! ❤❤
She dived right into her first quilt project and has the quilt top completed. =)
Yes, I probably made 5 Yellow Brick Road quilts in my beginning quilting days.. 😀
Such a great pattern!
Enjoy your September time off. Always love your videos. Thanks Corey.
Thanks, you too!
I Love your Yellow Brick Road and the added texture of Chenille! ❤ Daughter trips make for wonderful girl trips❤❤❤
It was such a fun trip! Elonie is already asking when we can take another one and were should we go. =)
Hi Corey! It was so wonderful to meet you at Love It Sew in Avon, Indiana. I love your fabrics and patterns. Thank you for coming to see us! ❤
It was a fun visit!
I just completed a quilt with lots of white background. I used white thread for piecing but I will still de-thread because it is only easy Before quilting. I do my own quilting so I de-thread while quilting. My eyes are focused on a small area so it is more time efficient.
That's a great approach if you quilt your own projects...You'd still want to pick any dark threads from the back of your quilt so they don't show through which you'd have to do before making your quilt sandwich. But that's such a great suggestion for getting those loose threads on the top while quilting.
Yes the yellow brick road, I think I made two of them few years ago. Love all your patterns, thanks for everything.
It's a popular pattern!
Finally, I’m so happy you’re talking about homespun fabrics. I look forward to following along while making your daughters homespun quilt. Any tips & tricks are appreciated. I have a suitcase full of plaid homespun that I’ve had for awhile … haha, and I’m eager to use it. I know that homespun is more loosely woven than regular cotton fabric but I haven’t found many quilter that have experience with it. Thank you for your informative videos. Marilyn from Ontario, Canada
Oooh!...you're going to have so much fun working with them. =)
Excellent advice about de threading your quilt top, I learnt it the hard way, I made a quilt that had navy in it and once quilted the navy threads were showing through the lighter colours, I had to painstakingly use a notion that looks like a tiny crochet hook to try and get these out, I've managed most but some are not budging. Since then I take great delight when I make a ball of my snipped loose threads prior to sandwich it and quilting it, definitely not a step to miss in the quilting process ❤
It happens!...even when we de-thread, there can still be a rogue thread that pops up after it's quilted. =)
The fabrics Elonie has picked remind me of Japanese Boro - they're amazing together!!! I can't wait to see what the two of you do with them ❤
She's already finished her quilt top!
This video was so informative. Thank you for answering viewer questions. It was just what I needed advice on.
You are so welcome!
I made a Yellow Brick Road quilt for my sister years ago
It's such a great pattern!
Love your video this morning. I love hearing about your adventures with your daughters! So exciting that Elliney (sp) is interested in having a Quilt now. So glad to hear about another Quilt shop (Anna Louise) in your area. I’ve never been to Navarre. We are coming to Berlin week after next, so I’ll add it to my list. We love Amish country and come every year for our anniversary trip.
Thanks so much!...it was quite fun traveling with Elonie last weekend---she's quite a fun companion. As I type this, she is sewing away at the sewing machine. I'll be excited to share with all of you how that quilt turns out. =) And yes!...definitely add AnnaLouisa's to your trip...it's a really pretty shop.
You're pure sunshine
I have not made a yellow brick road quilt but it does look easy. Thanks for talking about dethreading I never thought about the threads.
It's a great pattern...simple and quick!
I look forward to Saturdays and your videos. Thank you so much.
I'm so glad you like these videos...It's fun to share with you all. =)
I love Elonies choice in fabrics.. I'm a fan of the rustic decor, hunt cabin look. Very nice!
On a side note, that's so neat. I was at Millers last Saturday. I wanted to go into the plaid sheep too, after i looked around the antique mall, but time didn't allow it.
We have so many great local quilt shops!
Good Morning Corey! Have a great weekend!!
Good morning!...you as well!
Just found you and I’m hocked! Thank you for sharing all of your knowledge with us!!
I'm so glad you found me!...thanks so much for watching. =)
Thanks for the dethreading answer!
You are so welcome!
I probably haven’t been as diligent about de-threading my quilts as I should be - especially the back. Love the quilt on the left - great pattern for my Tilda fabrics. BTW, I would love to see Elonie’s sweatshirt in a T-shirt form and even another Hoodie with a different background color. Love the comic book theme - very original!
I know I am sometimes not as diligent about my de-threading as I could be. =)
I made a king sized yellow brick road quilt, very easy. I love the reds and taupes in your version. Elonie’s dark palette is super cozy looking.
It's a great pattern!
My 'boys' are in their 30s and they plan our trips now. And do most of the driving! Quite a change from the trips I used to plan and drive, and pack for!!
It changes a lot as they get older, doesn't it. =)
Yellow brick road is my go to pattern, especially when I need one quick. No idea how many I have made.
It's a great pattern. =)
Yes Corey I’ve made a yellow brick road quilt. Lol
I made it for my grandsons 16 th birthday and he loves it. I think it’s a great pattern for boys, as I found it very stressful to find him a pattern that wasn’t girly and that he would love.
It's such a great pattern!
I have made a Yellow Brick Road quilt. It was for one of my grandsons. That’s been 12 years ago…..time to make another one! It went together fast!!! I need to take more time de-threading. It seems I go through and clip the threads and by the time I get it to my long armer, there has been some unraveling!! So excited to see your daughter’s quilt as you move forward.
Yellow Brick Road was a go too many years ago …. Time to make another one! There is a mini YBR pattern I need to make too … table runner size!!
@@mslizzy3772 Table runner size….great idea!
It's such a great pattern!
Love your dress Corey! Reminiscent of my teen years🥰
Thank you so much!
Question: I don't know of any square beds. Why are the finished size of so many quilt patterns square??
I love square quilts….my quilts usually end up as snuggle on the couch quilts….only one has actually ended up on a bed.
Thank you for leaving a question!
I have an additional step before dethreading my quilts, I must de-cat fur them. 😹. I have made several Yellow Brick Road quilts for children using fun novelty prints. It is a great, quick pattern. I love Elonie’s choices, very sophisticated!
Ha!...de-cat fur them. =) Yes, I can see how that might be a step that is needed. =)
So you do know, you could open a shop..you are wise to think of this. I order some from etsy. Updating websites, would be so helpful before I make the long drive.
Updated websites are very helpful!
What a wonderful trip! I hope you stopped at Warm Glow. (It’s right off I70 in Centerville, Indiana) such a charming place with wonderful decor and amazing coffee.
We did not! =)
@@CorianderQuiltsadd it for your next trip! It’s totally worth it 💜
I love her choices!! And I love that they seem polar opposite of what you usually design-to me shows her independent taste. I am happy to report I have crossed the finish line on my triple Irish chain flimsy...the whole thing! with borders...almost too big for the long arm- will hand quilt!😊
Have fun hand quilting it!
As a customer, I’m always looking for classes so I can learn new techniques, socialize and meet other sewists, and classes help motivate me to dive into a project I might feel some apprehension starting. I love quilt shops that have frequent and varied classes and even opportunities to get together with others and work on WIPS.
It's so nice when quilt shops offer classes, isn't it!
I am from CT but my sister lives in OH. We would do a sewing retreat at her house for a week. One day was spent going to Millers Dry Goods, Helping Hands, Lone Star and other shops.
Such a great area. I hope you were able to try the bakery and the bulk food store too.
We have so many great local quilt shops here! =)
I have made a few Yellow Brick Road quilts....they are fun and come together easy!
They really do!
I have made a yellow being road out of flannels
It's such a great pattern!
Back in the day, dethreading was referred to as "Giving your quilt a hair cut!"
It is indeed!
I think it would be both fun and interesting if you share with us how you design a new fabric line, what inspires the patterns and how you pick your colors. How many drawings do you toss before you know which drawings you prefer. Thanks.😊
I've thought about this!
I agree.
I've made three Yellow Brick Roads.
It's such a great pattern!
Hi Corey. Hope you all have a good holiday weekend.
It was wonderful!...I hope you did as well. =)
I like Eloni's choice of fabric!
Isn't it fun!...I enjoyed seeing what she chose. =)
Eloni's dark fabric choices are bold and strong. Can't wait to see the other fabrics she adds to the collection. Please share. Absolutely stunning. I love seeing what color combinations people are drawn to.
Before I de thread I run a lint roller over the back several times the I rub it over the top too. Love your videos, thank you!❤
Those lint rollers are great, aren't they!
Yep, I've made several yellow brick roads. Timeless pattern.
Such a great one!
I love Miller’s Dry Goods in Ohio. I order online from them.
It's a great shop!
You look amazing! Love your videos❣️
Thank you so much!
My cousins live in Avon, so I’ll be sure to check it out when I go next. Also, you didn’t mention you stopped at Book swap!! My Aunt and Uncle volunteer there, and I’ve been known to drop money there for sure. 🤣 I’ve made this adorable quilt. Snowballs, after snowballs. Lol
You need to Gwen!...they just moved into a larger space and it's a beautiful shop.
It’s funny that now you guys make collections of fabric, so now I just pick the collection. But way back in 1992. I had to collect different pieces.
No collections when I started choosing fabrics either! =) It's so fun to see how much quiltmaking has changed over the years.
Have fun on your holiday.
Thanks so much!
Miss Corey, I love the quilt to your right. I’ve looked on your Etsy shop, but I don’t see it. If you could tell me the name of the pattern, I would love to make it. I love your patterns and fabric lines.
It's featured in my Oh Happy Day book that you can purchase here: tidd.ly/4eDUSft
@@CorianderQuilts I already have the book. I just didn’t remember seeing it in there. So yes, Oh Happy Day for me! I have a few of your fat quarter bundles that will be perfect!
That is my kind of road trip!
It was fun!
Hi. What suggestions do you have for someone wanting to complete their quilt totally on their own and not able to send it out. Your quilts are beautiful. I just ordered jelly roll and peachy keen fabric. Thank you
Yellow brick road quilt was my first quilt I made using a pattern.
So many of us have made Yellow Brick Road quilts!
