Not sure how to track this, but I'm curious about how many of us have watched this from the beginning, as I have. Bet there's a whole big bunch of us who have "Yay!"-ed and followed every new clip. You guys have done such an awesome job from start to now. Your coverage, filming, editing are just a treat. Watching your kids grow, the dogs romp, the projects all come together have been uplifting highlights in our lives. Thank you both! Now rootin' for rain for y'all!

It's time you hand drill your own well ..it's fairly simple..all my brother did theirs and mine ..was only 22 foot of pipe went down before I hit water...brother used a sled hammer on his but he used chain link fence pipe hammer on mine...then we bought a hand pump to go on top just prime it by pouring a bucket of water down the top and start pumping till you bring the water up..it will take 5 or 6 buckets to clear the water ....you put a shut off value underneath the hand pump...to keep it primed..you will have the best water....and you won't have to hall in water anymore..you could even buy an electric pump for it if you don't want the old timey hand pump......

So can relate to this 100 degree heat summer in So Calif up in high desert. Our grass is dying & I've lost almost all my container plants even with watering every other day. We do our errands after the sun sets. Tired of being stuck indoors, but I'm an old lady now..lol. We need rain desperately too. Lake Mead has dried up as well as Lake Powell. Now the Colorado river is drying up, Nevada, California, Arizona & Colorado depend on these systems for water, so water restrictions are coming, can't wait as we are a family of 7. I have enjoyed watching your videos, seeing your progress & the children grow. You've made a beautiful home & should be proud, mistakes & all. ❤ God Bless

When I lived in Texas long time ago, one of the best things in one story houses was the Attic fan. It was usually in the hall of bedrooms. open the windows and it sucks the wind through the house.
Even if the air is hot it is air moving. On normal warm days it is enough so can save on airco. Another was the water-cooler in the window.. really nice at night.
Also covering your outside airco so does not get direct sun but does get air will save it from working harder. Growing more bushes against house also cools down the house.

A couple of suggestion for the problems you are having. 1). Build a storm shelter and put your batteries down there. After all you live in Texas you might need one and the cool constant temperature below ground will be the same in Summer and winter. Great for the batteries. 2) Add Wind power you might not get much power on those hot stagnant nights but during the nights were you might have some wind you can get a little power boost during the night. 3) Water? Can you have a well? What about taking water from the pond in front of the house? At least during emergency situations? Good luck to you!

I love the skirting. Great job, Spencer. The stain on the skirting will eventually catch up to what's on the porches. Kenzie is correct about the combo of sun aging the wood while additional coats of stain will make it darker as well. Also...enjoy the grain of the wood. It's beautiful in all its diversity.
I know you probably hate people making suggestions to you, but I'm gonna take a chance anyway. I suggest figuring out a way to shade your HVAC condensers in the summer so they don't work so hard. I understand why you might not want to plant a tree, which would provide shade in the summer and lose it's leaves to allow the sunshine to hit the condensers in the winter--there are maintenance factors as well as the leaves shedding close to the equipment. However, perhaps you could rig up some beautiful sun shade sails in some way to add a design/feature element, but also allows the flexibility of removing it in the winter to allow the sun to reach them. I know that I save a lot of money/power usage by having some smaller shade trees casting a shadow on my HVAC for most of the hot summer days.
Whatever you decide...good luck! I believe in you!!

Put the AC on a timer to shut off at 2am. You're sleeping and you really can be warmer while you are all unconscious. It's a myth that cooling off after warming up takes more energy. It actually takes the exact same amount as 24-hour climate control. 'Kenz', you nailed it, "it's not good to keep draining the batteries down to zero." It reflected the heat out in the summer and kept the heat in, in the winter! Worked great and we loved them. We’re a basic white on the outside and had several colors for the inside. I've been living off-grid for the past 11 years. I've had to upgrade my solar system severely to accommodate my needs. I finally drilled a deep well 600ft and due to 7gpm I also had to bury a 2500gal storage tank to pump water into. This necessitated the installation of jet pump to pump water into a pressure tank to give me 24/7 water. I have a dual electric/propane water heater, electric refrigerator and deep freezer. Batteries are the biggest piece of an off-grid solar system. I purchased Toshiba LTO SCIB batteries from a junk yard from two Honda Fit EV wrecked vehicles for $4K that give me 44kW of battery bank storage. I can run my place for almost 5 days and nights without any sunshine however, I have a propane generator attached to my system that can recharge the batteries to full charge in 6 hours. I wouldn't think that you need to go very deep for a well with all the surface water around your property and you now can get almost the same amount of battery storage I have by purchasing server rack batteries for less than $1,500 per 5kW of storage for Lipo4 batteries, which are safe batteries. I don't know what you are currently using but, I think that you can integrate your existing batteries with the new ones.
