When I apply the set matte (like you in 12:50), check in invert matte box and view the layer in isolation(12:59) I have only black space. Any effects I apply after adding the invert matte are not visible any more. After removing the set matte I can see them again, but of course the whole effect of capain Marvel is spoiled and much different. Do you have any ideas what I am doing wrong? Did you create the hot edge glow layer by duplicating the source layer? Thank you for great tutorial.

5:59 you have Roughen Edges that go beyond the boundaries of the mask square. I have it cut off hard. Although the mask is in the shape of a circle, it is located inside a square. you can see this by the 4 red dots at the corners. The "Spiky" type looks square. On the first one and the last. The person and the things around didn't blend in that well.(there seemed to something off). I am not saying it was bad. In fact it's sooooooo coool and genius using the fractal noise. What I want to say is that factor which was missing in first and last was there in the middle 2 composites(everything seemed to blend in) I really don't know what that factor is. But something is there help blend everything togther. Like in the actual movie

Lots of invaluable tricks in here but those magic bullet looks really ruin the final composition especially with that vignette. Be nice if the footage looked as natural as possible and not like some instagram filter.

1 of the few guides which clearly and detailed explains and reveals how to create specific VFX with AE. Hard to find video guides nowdays which do not rush showing guidelines, that is a huge advantage for your guide.
It wasn't so difficult to learn the old special effects terminology in the 80's as a 13 year old but this new jargan is like a foreign language, I couldn't understand half of what you said.

You do not. You could rotoscope the footage. AE's RotoBrush 2.0 makes it a lot easier than it used to be.
