I am a 69 year old woman who grew up listening to, and loving Simon and Garfunkel. I have never heard a cover of them that I liked better than the original, until I listened to this one. This is the best version I have ever heard.
I grew up listening to Simon and Garfunkel and The Sound of Silence was always one of my favorite songs of theirs. Well I married and had 3 children and my teenage daughter at the time told me about Disturbed and I too fell in love with them...and with David Draiman’s voice. Well by accident I came across the studio version of him singing this song and I swear I didn’t take a breath until the end...I also had tears running down my face. I have listened to this song hundreds of times and I still feel so moved. Not sure if you knew that he was a classically trained cantor when he was younger, you can hear it in his voice. Be that as it may, no one has such a powerful but beautiful voice like he has. Thank you for your wonderful reaction to this song.
YES I TOO GREW UP WITH THE S&G VERSION OF THIS SONG, NOW IN MY LATER 50'S, GOT MARRIED MY HUSBAND LOVED THIS SONG TO, WE HAD KIDS, THEN MY HUSBAND OF 30YRS SUDDENLY PASSED AWAY IN 2020 AND MY SPECIAL NEEDS SON ASKED ME IF WE CAN PLAY THIS SONG AT HIS DAD'S LIFE CREMATION SERVICE SO WE DID, THERE WASN'T A DRY EYE IN THE HOUSE AND IT TOUCHED EVERYONE DIFFERANTLY BUT THE SAME, I LOVE BOTH VERSIONS, BUT DISTURBED IS MY FAVOURITE IT TAKES MY BREATH AWAY AND GIVES ME GOOOOSEBUMPS EVERYTIME "TEENAGERS HAVE TO BLOW YOUR IDEAS ETC OUT OF THE WATER" AND THIS TRULY DID, HAUNTING AND EXCITING ALL AT ONCE WOW! GOD BLESS THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR REACTION:);):)
In my view , Simon & Garfunkel's lyric is one of the most beautiful of all time. There are many Sound of Silence covers, but this one of Disturbed is so stunning and deep: the best.

David Draiman...a voice to die for! A powerful yet soulful voice that can go from warm baritone to angelic tenor, from clear as a crystal to rasp/distortion/vocal fry and back on a dime. He has a timbre in his voice that I've never heard before.....just hauntingly beautiful and pure tonal properties to it! An awesome talent and obvious training to deliver what he does!! Can sing like an angel or the devil ! Loved your reaction and your take on David's performance Welder! You're right, it was a masterpiece! Try "Deceiver", "The Night", "Indestructible", "The Light", "Violence Fetish" and "Enough" by Disturbed too......to react to!
Hi first thing, BIG THANKS for taking your time to watch my videos and I love Disturbed I kinda discover disturbed long time ago when I played Guitar Hero and disturbed song was in the play list.. The are an amazing group. Thanks for watching and commenting,, means a lot to me
You gave me goosebumps just by watching your heartfelt reactions to this majestic rendition of The Sound of Silence. I truly appreciated your honesty, your genuine delight in David’s singing, the incredible video, the music, etc.
LOVED your reaction!!! I'm turning 70 this year and have loved this song since it was first released. Back then it seemed like it was a very gentle warning that we had to change or our future was in danger. This version makes me cry EVERY time I hear it because we missed the first message and just look at what's happened! David's amazing voice is both sorrowful that we didn't pay heed to the warning AND furious that we still don't see what's going on. I have NEVER heard a voice like David's before, his control makes me crazy. If you want to try another Disturbed that isn't hard metal, try "Hold On To The Memories" I hope you continue to make these reactions, your honesty is beautiful to watch.
The original Simon and Garfunkel was a warning, This version is the pissed off that people didn't hear the warning. You felt it... I cry every time... I get chills... it really fits the lyrics... the passion pain and emotions
When your ears are open they become receptacles of your heart and soul. This has to be heard to be felt. You felt it. To closed ears music doesn't have meaning. This is number one the best rendition of The Sound of Silence, written by Paul Simon delivered by David Draimam ❤❤
Your reaction to this song is perfect. I love this version and as a young man I really could not reconcile why S & G sung it so lightly, but it was the 60s I do believe that Disturbed sings it best as Paul Simon has said as well. Thank you my friend.
Dude, I had the same reaction to this cover of this song. David and Disturbed killed it. Softly. If you haven't, you should check out the story of how they came to choose and do the song. Well, Mr. Welder Reactor, I enjoyed your honest reaction to this cover. So much has been said in reactions to this cover and most of it good, as you made clear. They are a great group and David is a master of song. I enjoyed watching your sincere reaction. Thanks!

David Draiman spent about 20 years in the US and Israel training to be a cantor like his father and his grandfather, and his world-famous great-grandfather who was the head cantor of the Gerrer Hasidische bes medresh in Jerusalem. He grew up believing he was going to be a rabbi. But he kept getting kicked out of schools for unruly behavior. He didn't discover rock and metal music until later in life, and at that time his grandfather cut off all contact with him, and before his grandfather died, they did reconnect. Draiman is lapse Jewish, fully losing his faith after his girlfriend's suicide and his grandfather's death. He attended Loyola University, Los Angeles CA, where he triple-majored in Business Administration, Political Science, and Philosophy.
After you listen to the live version. Completely watch and.listen to the official site, do not close your eyes. 10 MILLION times better. Do it without interruption. Goosebumps and tears have been known to happen...
Hi. Nice reaction! There are a couple of common things we share. 1. Metallica also used to be my nr 1 favourite band... till I met Disturbed, a few years ago. They've grown from "just a new band (for me)" to "my all times nr 1 favourite" in just a couple of short weeks... now, I have all their songs downloaded in my phone and listen to them on a daily basis. 2. I've also grown up with the original version , but the first time I've really listened to the lyrics was while hearing the Disturbed's rendition. A real masterpiece, indeed, more significant today than ever before. As for David Draiman's voice... if you haven't heard them yet, I would suggest you to listen to "Darkness", from the "Believe" record, "Overburdened", from "10,000 Fists", "The Light", from "Immortalized", "A Reason to Fight", "Hold on to Memories", "Uninvited Guest", all from "Evolution". All of them being ballads or slow heavy songs. Keep up the good work and stay safe!
Hey BIG THANKS for watching and commenting my video,, I do not get that may views hahah and I just want to share my oppinion on song,, because i was thinking that this song will not fit to David's voice,, but man I was supprised. Please consider subscribing I will do other reaction,, probably tommorow haha, Thanks again for watching and commenting.
That's true, but the audio crew of the Conan show did add a tiny amount of autotune after the show without consulting with the band. I dont notice it, but I also wouldnt really know how to tell where it was used, which I don't think was very often.
I read that David was not pleased with his performance. Can you imagine?? This is the best ever cover of a song; the piano, the orchestration are perfect but it's mainly his voice with the range and power he has. ♥️
Great reaction, my summary, This is an interpersonal reflection, a microcosm of dilogue of thought mixed with the journey of life. The fact it is a remake what? 7 years ago of a song created more than half a century ago and still is listened to as if it was just released, speaks volumes, what is happening everywhere at this time is of critical importance and is not coincidental, there is a message we must acknowledge. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Anatomy of song - when silence speaks Take yourself back to the years the lyrics were crafted, 1963ishy, think cultural, think political, musical, technological, global, historical. Grab a pen, a pencil, a notepad, assume a position, your age as 20ishy (this is important) in 1964. A perspective of youth looking forward in anticipation of unknown success with a foreboding of apprehension to the journey not yet taken. Thoughts come to us constantly within our conscience, non-verbals become the pseudo conversations within our minds. The "should haves'" of yesterdays, the "to do's" of today's and the longings and intentions of tomorrow's. On top of that, unexpected interruptions of life occur, manifestations unbeknownst to be of fortune to tribulation become tempered by time and repetition. Translations from unspoken, how many conversations with self do we have on the daily, on an ongoing basis, that are never heard, or are they? I've watched several interviews of Paul Simon and many other lyricists trying to explain their mindset to their creations. More often than not, they don't know exactly how it came to be, it just came, case in point included. From my understanding, part of the process happened in the darkness of a tiled bathroom for acoustics in his parents house, something happened somewhere between eureka and wa-la, a song appears. Again pretend you are 20ishy, rock and roll was not more than a decade old, televisions were still black and white, phones were still connected to the house. The everpresent unrest of society, Vietnam War, assassination of JFK, back to the days transported in history on the coattails of time. Find a video recording of a young Simon & Garfunkel and ingest it all as not only the artists themselves, as a society that use to be back in the day, this song remains a snapshot of our collective history in progress. Flash forward to the now and the brilliance of a type of homeage, preformed by an unlikely ensemble popularly understood to be heavy-metal no less. Now with the advantage of knowing and experiencing 50+ years that have transpired since original penmanship. Your perspective is no longer 20ishy wet behind the ears, no longer a rookie of life, now the perspective changes to that of a senior, a mentor with wisdom and experience bringing it to the fore, you are now, a father of self, looking back. Simply listening to a reaction video of a live recording of it would leave the complexities undone, so many layers. The compilation of the original remake video by the band Disturbed , singer David Draiman (a trained cantor from Chicago,...yes,seriously) demands appreciation , attention and reflection. The cinematography, the black and white setting, the Vikingish creative license become an orchestra of gravitas, these words and instrumentations are nothing short of a prophetic welcome to our living history defining words of imagination. We, the populace in the here and now have been endoctrinated into views of comparison as if everything is a sport, a competition, thus, lessons are lost to ego. Think it through, would anyone compare, the nervousness of a first date at twenty to a celebration of fifty years of anything? It is not only incomparable, it would be a sacrilege to consider. The lyrics came through a mind of youth more than half a century ago, an unlikely artist resurrects it fifty plus year's later, it spreads virally, organically without intention remaining a mainstay several years to present. almost as if it needed to somehow marinate, to age for our now. Sometimes when we least expect it, our silence is speaking and can be heard louder in the resess of thought more than anything audible. Being born in 1965 I somehow sense a kinship of resonance, a sort of ironic unirony. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I hated reading any negative comments here for you Welder. I found you to be very humble and respectful (and cute!😉). It is difficult to comment on such a masterpiece of a performance. 🎵🎶🎵 It truly leaves many speechless (or should I say 'silent'🤫).
Hey thanks for coment and compliment 😊 it doesn't hit me when someone write something bad.. Everyone have right to it's own oppinion.. Thanks for positivity😊🤟
I loved your reaction..would like to see your reaction to the official video...by the way being a welder you are yourself an artist...You've earned a like and subscribe from me my friend 😉
A number of metal heads have gotten into Genesis both with Peter Gabriel (earlier) and then Phil Collins (later). If you like good music and real emotion dive into it and find a wealth of gold. Collins 2004 Paris doing 'In the Air Tonight' is an amazing performance full of soul equal to this Disturbed cover. 'Dance on a Volcano' (Collins) is rock majesty. 'Musical Box' (Gabriel) is fascinating. Try it, you will like it (even if you don't do any reaction videos of it).
You’re very charming and I can see how appreciative you are of his voice. Maybe not interrupt the video so frequently, though. It kills the mood and flow.
4:27 You wanted to hear him sing just because he had cool piercings on his chin? And it's called a double lebret. Some lebret's are just a ball. That is judging a book by its cover. There has been plenty of artists which had lots of piercings trying to look cool and they were rated absolutely horrible! Don't judge a book by it's cover please! And btw David was sick during this performance and he still sang this well which is crazy!
If you wanted to hear it without auto tune then you would have been better with the official music video one... Cuz he was slightly ill with the flu when doing it live he was given a little bit of auto tune (although he had told them not to do that apparently)
Before I found Disturbed's version of Sound of Silence this was my favorite version, it is good, especially before you hear Disturbed, especially the Conan live version but still worth a listen then come back for a dose of Disturbed for the ultimate version. ua-cam.com/video/q_BJaM-UrXc/v-deo.html or search: Henk Poort - Sound of Silence | Beste Zangers 2019
You do pause way too much although I understand that you are doing this to not talk over top of the song so much. I do appreciate that. Maybe try mixing it up a bit more. It is okay to talk a little more over the music and maybe back up the video and allow for longer pieces of uninterrupted play time. Other than that, I enjoyed your reaction. Continue listening to Disturbed. They have some awesome newer stuff since the Sound of Silence that you need to check out: Are You Ready, No More, A Reason to Fight, Hold onto Memories, Univited Guest, Already Gone, If I Ever Lose Faith in You, and more...
First of all. BIG THANKS FOR FEEDBACK, FOR YOUR COMMENT AND FOR WATCHING MY VIDEO.. I WILL IMPROVE IN THIS.. I'm just starting.. But I love music. And My reactions are honest. Thanks for watching .
@@cosmictwin8514 I know this. But I have watched many a reaction and it felt like every few seconds compared to many. But as I suggested others have compensated for pausing by backing up the video a bit. I don't get the copyright stuff though because some haven't paused once due to sitting there in shock. And others have done everything to stop it and they've been blocked. Go figure. Any how still a great reaction here.
I agree with you and your reaction is perfect because you know the song and the singer and you will still surprised. His talent and emotion make this song. I have heard Pentatonix and it does not compare as their version has no emotion. Check out hold onto the Memories. ua-cam.com/video/QAnqNxLjuAA/v-deo.html
Hi. First of all.. BIG THANKS FOR COMMENTING AND WATCHING MY VIDEO. I just did not belive that David is able to sing that how do I say soft but in the same time you can feel his heavy metal side.. I'm nit sure if this is in my head because I know his voice but.. This song is made for him to sing it. Thanks for commenting it means world to me
Sorry man.. But that is my first reaction and I did not know how many people will affect. I was just saying stauff that I felt.. But I will try to improve. THANKS FOR TAKING YOUR TIME TO WATCH AND COMMENT MY VIDEO. means a lot to me.
This is not a reaction. You’ve heard this song sung by Disturbed before. Your words were very vague in the beginning and after I watched I think I know why. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think you have already seen the official video. I believe this because you mention wanting to hear the song “without auto tune.” The joke is on you, because the only auto tune is in the “live” version. Listen to the “people writing songs” part. It’s clearly auto tuned. The tragedy is that it didn’t need to be. Draiman sang it great, but the show included auto tune without David’s permission. The official video is ironically much cleaner. You can hear spit hitting the mic in that version and there was zero auto tune.
I knew the song but never heard Davivd singing the song.. That's why I make a reaction,,, I did this reaction accidentaly,, did not have a clue will anyone watch it.. Thanks for taking your time to watch and comment on my video.
@@welderreactor in that case I apologize. I made an incorrect assumption and that was unfair. I encourage you to watch the official video, I think you’ll enjoy it
So he was super sick in the live version and the band he worked with was not set up for the performance well, also the mics were not well tuned. So sadly you sort of cheated yourself out of the best reaction of seeing the “real” version instead of this random tv show stunt
You waited to hear this b/c you love Disturbed and were excited to see what they'd do with it? What good does it do if you stop 5 times and cut off the orchestra before it finishes? Really disappointed. Sorry to be so harsh but the passion and importance of the lyrics were demolished.
Sorry man youre not the only one to say that.. It is my first reaction video.. But thanks for your feedback. Thanks for taking your time to watch my video. It means world to me.

After you listen to the live version. Completely watch and.listen to the official site, do not close your eyes. 10 MILLION times better. Do it without interruption. Goosebumps and tears have been known to happen...
I did it.. Amazing.. David is one beast of a human..
This guy is f'kin awesome; as my friend is your reaction
🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟 thanks🤣
Please consider subscribing I will do other reaction,, probably tommorow haha,
Thanks again for watching and commenting.

Thanks alot.. Means world to me.
David doesn't use Auto-Tune...he doesn't need it!
He refuses to use it he says if he can't sing something live he just won't do it
That's true, but the audio crew of the Conan show did add a tiny amount of autotune after the show without consulting with the band. I dont notice it, but I also wouldnt really know how to tell where it was used, which I don't think was very often.
My Reaction Was As Strong & Overwhelming as Yours- In last Month, Watched Hundreds Of Times-
You did a great job for your first reaction video, Keep it up
Hey Thanks man. Positivity means a lot to me.
David and his brother were classically trained. His brother is an opera singer!
Honestly.... I did not have a ckue about that . Amazing.
Great reaction. You get quality.
Thanks for taking ypur time to watch and comment on my video🙏🙏❤❤
Majestuosa y prodigiosa VOZ. MODIFICA EL ALMA Y ARRANCA LA ESTUPIDEZ HUMANA. NO PUEDO VIVIR SIN ESCUCHARLA
I can tell you really know him. He is wonderful.
I read that David was not pleased with his performance. Can you imagine?? This is the best ever cover of a song; the piano, the orchestration are perfect but it's mainly his voice with the range and power he has. ♥️
I knew it was in him fromthe fist time i saw him live . He has a perfect voice . He sounds just like his recordings. So i know he could sing
Great reaction, my summary,
This is an interpersonal reflection, a microcosm of dilogue of thought mixed with the journey of life. The fact it is a remake what? 7 years ago of a song created more than half a century ago and still is listened to as if it was just released, speaks volumes, what is happening everywhere at this time is of critical importance and is not coincidental, there is a message we must acknowledge.

Anatomy of song - when silence speaks
Take yourself back to the years the lyrics were crafted, 1963ishy, think cultural, think political, musical, technological, global, historical.

Okay.. man this is whole paragraph🤣
Loved your reaction.

God: Would you like the voice of an angel or of the devil?
David: OK
DEFINETLY david will say that haha
I hated reading any negative comments here for you Welder. I found you to be very humble and respectful (and cute!😉). It is difficult to comment on such a masterpiece of a performance. 🎵🎶🎵 It truly leaves many speechless (or should I say 'silent'🤫).
Hey thanks for coment and compliment 😊 it doesn't hit me when someone write something bad.. Everyone have right to it's own oppinion.. Thanks for positivity😊🤟
So I suppose his vocals, especially in his lower ranges, are going to be better than almost anyone in existencel! Lol
Great reaction!
Thanks.. means a lot to me when someone takes their own time to watch my video..
I loved your reaction..would like to see your reaction to the official video...by the way being a welder you are yourself an artist...You've earned a like and subscribe from me my friend 😉
Thanks friend.. positivity means a lot to me.. Welding is one badass job. Hahaha Thanks for calling us artists🤟😅😅❤
Paul Simon like this so much he said 'David now owns this tune'
DAVID D singing this reminds me of a lion taking care of the cubs. Like he could rip you apart....just not with you
That is most accurate description man.. Thanks for comments you left and all positivity.
Try it, you will like it (even if you don't do any reaction videos of it).
he is classicly trained. abd yes voice of god
look the official video to this song it will touch your soul
I made an reaction to that.. it was an amazing performance..

He was classically trained as a Cantor...
I did not know any of that.. Thanks for taking your time to watch my videos. It means a lot to me.
You’re very charming and I can see how appreciative you are of his voice. Maybe not interrupt the video so frequently, though. It kills the mood and flow.
It was my first reaction video and I make it just because I was shocked to see David singing this song.. Amazing artist is David.
Appreciate your Honest Reactions could you Please React to Billy Lord "SECTION 318" TY
I will do my best😁💪💪
The video has no auto tune the Coan show auto tunes the performance before the put it online. David didn't find out that they did it until later
This song by Disturbed really really hits you in the soul. Amazing
Great reaction! But do yourself a favor and watch the official video of this song by Disturbed, as well.
I shure will. Hey Thanks for watching my chanel.. It means a lot to a small chanel like mine. Thanks
The live version is very good but the official music video adds a lot of info
You messed up. For THIS song you must use both earphones. You don't have to video it but do it again with both.

Well, he comes from several generations of Jewish Cantors, and was trained as one himself but decided to go a different direction...
Yo why the hell u only got 13 su s. U got yt talent. Don't give up. Need any song suggestion just ask bro. Any genre long as it rock based
Thanks a lot man.. I do not know why hahah.. but I do my best. Your positivity means world to me.
Classically trained badass😢
He was't crying, he got the flue and have a fever
React to HEART singing stairway to Heaven at the Kennedy Center in front of Led Zepplin and president Obama
My favorite song ever! This brings me to tears every time! Such passion! His reaction? Too much talking...just saying..
His eyes were tearing. Possibly a symptom of having the flu :)
Yeaa.. later one of you gys wrute that he was so sick that he could not stand..
@@welderreactor Actually i wasn't joking, he really was sick the day of this performance, which only made it that much more remarkable!
@@gcarap Amazing man is David.. true artist..
Hey just you know the lead singer despises auto tune never uses it!!
Before I found Disturbed's version of Sound of Silence this was my favorite version, it is good, especially before you hear Disturbed, especially the Conan live version but still worth a listen then come back for a dose of Disturbed for the ultimate version.

David Draiman is in a heavy metal singer, TRY DOWN WITH THE SICKNESS....
I think there have to be pauses because of copyright stuff
Copystrike sucks.. But whatever as long as I have people watching me and giving positivity I will keep doing this.
As far as cpystrike goes.. I do not have to worry about that.. I am not a small..I'm micro chanel.. But Thanks for positivity.
Are you a vocal coach?
No😅 just a simple dude who like to listen music.🤟🤟
Thanks for commenting it means world to me
First time watching you, the only issue that bothered me was how much you stopped to talk it kept interrupting the phenomenal song
Sorry man.. But that is my first reaction and I did not know how many people will affect. I was just saying stauff that I felt.. But I will try to improve.
THANKS FOR TAKING YOUR TIME TO WATCH AND COMMENT MY VIDEO. means a lot to me.
He had the flu when he did this on conan
Too many pauses. Ruins the mood completely.
Sorry to hear that I'm kinda new here..
Thanks for yor feedback and thanks for commenting and watching my reaction.
Means world to me.
I encourage you to watch the official video, I think you’ll enjoy it
I did watch jt and make an reaction.. haha no worries man.. This is youtube everyone have right to their own oppinion.
So he was super sick in the live version and the band he worked with was not set up for the performance well, also the mics were not well tuned. So sadly you sort of cheated yourself out of the best reaction of seeing the “real” version instead of this random tv show stunt
So basically you heard it already just sY that champ auto tune no auto tune its the same
Did you just say heavy metal singers that are bald??? Lets be clear Oprah trained and METAL BY GOD
You waited to hear this b/c you love Disturbed and were excited to see what they'd do with it? What good does it do if you stop 5 times and cut off the orchestra before it finishes? Really disappointed. Sorry to be so harsh but the passion and importance of the lyrics were demolished.
Thanks for feed back.. That was my first reaction video I made I think I'm better now.. Thanks for watching and commenting.. Still means a lot to me.
Too many pauses.
Sorry man youre not the only one to say that.. It is my first reaction video..
But thanks for your feedback. Thanks for taking your time to watch my video.
It means world to me.
@@welderreactor No worries, my polite friend. Stay safe.
What good does it do if you stop 5 times? And cut off the orchestra at the end. Ruined it.
Stop stopping all the time.
