Ok, I've been testing this deck for weeks now and all I gotta say is... "thank you".
It's so hard to get the right mana for the ur dragon without spending so much cash, and this deck comes and does it flawlessly for cheap.
While every other video in UA-cam focuses on ramping and droping the same big dragons fast, I like this one better because it focuses more on strategy and the sinergy between the cards. Now I know the power level isn't 10 on this deck, but in a casual match it performs very well, and best of all you get to enjoy playing the ur dragon without breaking the bank.

Idk I think my Tiamat / Esika deck would get the job done fast.
Also the Ancient chromatic dragons are in my opinion, a must. The Copper one is able to do 1 to 20 treasure tokens after combat damage, the silver one makes you draw an incredible amount of cards, the brass plays in the graveyard, the goldie makes faeries and the bronze gives power to creatures.. 😅😅
They also have crazy good stats, 6/5, 8/8, 7/7 etc

Some are good and some are not but very informative. On a godhand I could cast my the Ur in turn 2. Good hands I could cast him at 3. Consistently I could cast him on turn 4-6th but many dragons have been cast before him. Still I got more insights from you so my Ur can still improve. Thank you!

I've just recently gotten into magic and ur dragon is basically my first deck.
I've already learned quite a bit about deck building in edh but this vid has some interesting/unique takes on how to build ur dragon.
    I'm aiming for a 7-8 power level.
The cost reducers didn't seem to work for me either. And I've had difficulty with cardadvantage without casting the ur dragon. I also agree on atarka beeing not that ideal, especially when considering terror of mount velus. I'm playing it instead of blast furnace hellkite (I'm considering to play both)
Dragon tempest would be one of those cards I wouldn't want to cut. It is the cheapest haste enabler for more than 1 dragon/turn and doubles up as removal/wincon.
I also play both sarkhan's triumph and draconic muralists. (no other tutors because the deck felt adequate for the power level I'm aiming for)
I'm not a fan of the fighting mechanic, it's higher risk but no real reward in most cases. I prefer to not rely on having a dragon in play for my removal to work. That's why I'm playing dragon's fire and spit flame.
(both benefit from playing dragons but do the job totally fine without them)
I've found that for me the ravnica block bounce lands work quite well especially because nimbleclaw adept is a 3 mana ramp for 2 but can tap for more if your lands tap for more than one mana.

You lost me when you said you would put a planeswalker instead of Terror of the Peaks or Atarka, loll. Simply not a good move knowing Dragons are about power and those 2 can literally win you games while your planeswalker is an easy target to kill.

Idk man what do you want from me? Mana's more useful/aligned with our goals than direct damage is? Maybe Mana Drain makes up for it by being more flexible, easier to cast, having more printings and being more reprintable than Terror of the Peaks? Terror of the Peaks is also a little "win more." Their prices are very close, and ETB damage is better put to use in decks like Miirym and Scion of the Ur Dragon where you might mass reanimate the dragons. We need ways to protect our board, and mana drain does that while also advancing our goals: *it's both proactive and reactive.* Whereas the Terror is only ever proactive, (and scary) and is a lot more removable than MD is.
Edit: I'm reading this out loud and it sounds sarcastic- I promise it's not meant that way, I'm just tired.

Great video! You really take a more in depth and interesting look at decks then most others out there. I dropped you a sub. Couple questions though.
Wouldnt vandal blast be better than visions of ruin?
How come there are no board wipes besides crux of fate? And little single targeted removal?
And last thing, if we wanted to spend a little more money what should i swap out for terror of the peaks?
Great video again, and quickly becoming my favorite edh channel. Just wondering these things about the deck 👍 keep up the excellent work

    • @aegisgamingofficial2178
      @aegisgamingofficial2178  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for watching! 😁
      - If your only goals are destroying artifacts, then yes, Vandalblast is better. Visions of Ruin however specifically *gives you treasures* after you've destroyed these artifacts. 4 mana for 3 treasures, or 6 for 6 when you flash it back is a pretty good deal considering you're also taking pieces off enemy boards to do it, and with a 9 mana commander, I'll take that deal over vandalblast with no treasures any day.
Before the deeper explanation (lots of words incoming), it's worth remembering that this is a *creature heavy deck.* Our gameplan relies on developing our board presence, and dragons put a lot of mana into each body, which is a risky investment when it comes to board wipes (i.e. playing Wrath of God would be very very bad for us). Any board wipes we end up playing need to be strictly one sided, and that's not always easy- the more wipes we run, the easier it is for decks that steal cards to wipe our own board with our own cards. In general though, creature based strategies don't want a lot of wipes to begin with, even the one sided ones, because every wipe is a card that isn't developing your creature strategy (lots of nuance and corner cases to that remark, but *in general* board wipes are bad inclusions for creature decks). Now without further ado...
      - Interaction in this deck is both sneaky and delicate. First, if an opponent wipes the board, we're in deep trouble. And opponents are most incentivized to wipe the board when their own boards are empty. We don't really want that. But we also can't let them develop their board unrestrained, so the idea is this: We're trying to take out their most important pieces *while developing our own.* So things like Mythos of Illuna and Zndrsplt's Judgement, get to put a dragon into play while removing enemy permanents, and the flip side of Invasion of Tarkir removes a lot of creatures, but we get to target them and do so judiciously: again, not destroying *everything,* just the important pieces. Board wipes like Crux of Fate and The Elder Dragon War- which can destroy all our opponents' little things (like their mana dorks) while leaving behind a dragon and some card selection for us and keeping their larger mana investments intact, making them think twice about a boardwipe- are best used 1 turn before we drop Ur Dragon when we also have mana up to stop any backlash interaction we might face.
      - It's actually for some of those reasons that Terror of the Peaks is a really good card here- it turns every dragon into a *targeted* removal spell for you. But when I exclude it for price, what I'm saying isn't that "it's bad," what I'm saying is "the effect is not *worth the price."* There are some decks (like Miirym, or a Scion of the Ur Dragon reanimator build) where that is worth the money, but for this deck there are some obstacles holding it back for me to say "I'm comfortable spending $30 on this card." Mana Drain on the other hand is a brilliant use of $30 for this deck and I'd highly recommend sticking to that inclusion. Beyond that, if you've just got money to blow, I'm starting to leave "honorable mentions" in the credit rolls now, which would be the cards that are "still good just not for that price." I think I put mana crypt, Rhythm of the Wild, and Cavern of Souls on that list, but I could be misremembering.
Thanks for the sub! 😊 Hope this helped answer your questions!

To start, Shadow in the warp is an enchantment, which means it's harder to remove than creatures or artifacts. On the end, it deals a lot more damage than the incubator, Servant, or Shaman do. More damage = easier to win. Easy math.

Thanks for watching! Wow, that's awesome! I'm glad to hear more people building their first decks.
      - If this really is your very first deck, then the only reason I would say "no it's not good for beginners" is its pricetag. There are much cheaper ways to have a blast playing this wonderful game we all love. But if you're indifferent about the price then go for it! It's a lot of fun to swarm everyone with dragons.
      - I'm not sure why TCGplayer is only putting 99 items in your cart. I just tried and it did the same for me. There are 100 cards in the deck though (you can check the decklist too). It's possible that they can't find any sellers of one of the cards, but that's just a guess.

Is mana drain absolutely necessary? Can i switch it for a regular counterspell?

    • @aegisgamingofficial2178
      @aegisgamingofficial2178  7 місяців тому +1

When I originally made this list, Mana Drain was only $30. Obviously it's risen since then.
Is it necessary? No, but the power you get from it cannot be overstated. If your group is proxy friendly especially I'd look into it, but otherwise you could run something else in its place. Arcane Denial is cheaper, and there are several other options that will fit as well, just none as good as MD.
