I may be misremembering but I am pretty sure that counterspells cannot be cast unless they have a legal target

@jacenjimenez4048 from the sounds of the video it seemed he was suggesting Neera would activate off any attempted spell cast, the situation being "I cast counterspell on your Cmdr, but since Neera is on my board my counterspell automatically goes to the bottom of my deck."

@StealthJet Thanks for watching! I update my personal lists (in the description) periodically every other set or so when I can remember to make the changes from my paper deck. As for 14th Doctor in particular, I'm also really hesitant to make any changes. It's really difficult for something to satisfy all the conditions that that deck needs to make it more appealing than a lot of the existing slots. But I'll tell you one thing I was thinking about: There's another neat combo you can make with Bigger on the Inside and Staff of Domination (a 3 mana artifact, being a historic spell also has a lot of synergy). My hangup though is actually that I think combat is where the deck needs the biggest changes though, not more combo lines. It gets hit pretty hard by even moderately powered aggro decks because of how unprofitable it is to block. So when I'm looking for upgrades, I'm looking much closer at interaction to keep those creatures off my back, or at things that make it harder to attack me in general.

Understandable, especially when ive sat across from multiple combats or stompy leviathans. My main play style is to stay low threatening until I'm not, but aggro really likes to take of the weak when there's no immediate threat. I'm considering running fog/holy day/spore frog effects, and/or combat taxes like ghostly prison/propaganda. Stopping combat feels thematic for the doctor, but it would definitely slow the deck and make it less focused.

@@StealthJet Another reason why the One Ring would slap in that deck. Not only is it a proactive fog, but sonic screwdriver untapping it is bananas

@StealthJet I mean if you're comfortable with it you should just proxy it. It's not worth spending that kinda money on imo. Save yourself some money.

@Scrumps0 Well if you've already got it I don't think there's much harm. I still think a Mana Drain is amazing here though.

@dalekrek2213 I'll have to answer this in a few different ways. First, you don't have to build for GS even with this deck as is. Like I said, by the time you've won with GS, you've already won in a dozen other ways. Notably, the core of the combo (Orvar+Peregrine+Clockspinning) also generates infinite mana, card draw, and token copies of permanents you control. So make infinite drakes and take the extra turn like normal, just without GS. Second, I think the next most elegant wincon with cards you'd already be running in this build is that 5th Doctor combo I mentioned. But lastly, if you went back and chose a different companion to get access to black, I think there's something to be said about a Staff of Domination + Deathbloom Ritualist combo. Not only is the staff a 3 mana artifact (so it synergizes with several doctors already), but the 14th Doctor's cast trigger fills the yard for Deathbloom easily, so you can get infinite xyz that way too. I'd say those are my top 3 wins if I'm excluding Gallifrey Stands.

@bumpyblue5295 5th Doctor doesn't untap attackers. So you need even more pieces than that. And if that's literally the only other synergy- because only two other doctors get you upkeep triggers- then I have to disagree: he's very much *not* one of the better Doctors to run.

What about artifacts? The artifact slot is best saved for burst mana. Lotus petal, which combos off with Displacer Kitten, lightning greaves to protect mullyD and turn your land untapping dorks into hastey rituals and removal engines like boom box.

Invasion of ahmonkhet was both listed as a card to avoid and a turn 4 play. Why is witherbloom command in the deck in any capacity. Thats a mid card in EDH. Is this a brawl video..?

@erosbronzo6518 I don't hate that. In a more creature focused list, I think you'd be crazy not to include Azami. The Archdruid is really just a "for fun" include. It's probably what I'd swap out for the honorable mentions at the end.

@MidoriNatsume Actually, I remember a conversation my playgroup and I had once about Jeskai vehicles. At the time I think we decided that Elsha of the Infinite would have been the best commander for the archetype, but that was a while ago and there may have been better commanders printed. Still a favorite of mine though if you want to play around with that idea 😉

@martinheraud1744 Convenient perhaps for higher power games, but not necessary. After that first turn they're really not good for much besides discarding, but that shouldn't overshadow the boost you'd get from accelerating your tineline by a turn.

@@aegisgamingofficial2178 well I feel my best games with henzie are : manadork turn 1, henzie turn 2, green ojer or seedguide turn 3.

@vrobz9784 You're not wrong, and if you're that skeptical of it I would probably agree it can be argued as a weaker slot. But Blitz isn't the only way things die, and given that our opponents know they'll die anyway leads them to make more interesting blocks, I'm still satisfied with it. Yeah, it's been a little bit since my last upload. I've been working on a new format of video, and that's been repeatedly delayed due to adjusting to a new job and work schedule as well as personal developments. Though most of that is fixed now, so stay tuned!

@lianwang12345 You're right, it would seem weird to lie about prices. I wonder if there's another explanation that would make more sense. I don't know if you've been on UA-cam for long, but you can see the release date on the video. This was released with prices at time of recording, because I have no way to predict prices in the future.

@@aegisgamingofficial2178 I don't know where you got the price from. But there are various staples in the moxfield link which have not been cheap in forever. At any timepoint in the past 4 years a vampiric tutor, worldly tutor, bloomtender and jeskas will combined will easily set you back at least 120 dollars. They're all good cards to include in the deck, but they should be moved towards an upgrade section, cause there is no way to build this deck for 111 dollars.

@kevinstack3002 When you fire the loop, you float as much mana as you need in between steps. You have infinite mana, so yes you'll have enough. You won't be able to go to combat while the loop is going on, so you'll stop the loop before combat.

@TheSnakeInYourBoot You're misunderstanding - unlimited tokens will win you the game...on your next turn. Giving the table a turn to find an answer is not a good way to win the game. Another good example of Infinite tokens that's really bad at winning the game is Midnight Guard+Presence of Gond. Sure it makes Infinite tokens...but only after MG gets off summoning sickness. And those tokens will win you the game...after they get off summoning sickness. When we say a combo "wins the game," we mean it does so *that turn.* Some other combos that don't win the game (at least not without extra steps) include: - Infinite mana (unless you have an outlet) - Infinite lifegain - Infinite +1/+1 counters - Infinite discard - Infinite creature death - Infinite creature ETB - Infinite self card draw But combos that *do* win the game might say: - "win the game" (like Thoracle) - Infinite damage/life loss - Infinite tokens *with haste* - infinite *targeted* card draw
