    What really did it for me while playing the game is that most areas don't even have music
    In the prison cells map, for example, the only sounds you'll hear are your foorsteps on the metal bridge, and then suddenly, a guard spotting you, which can instantly throw you off and scare the living green hue out of you

    The main menu theme for me could be described as doubtfulness, whether you'll start the game or back out from playing it entirely that theme kinda captures it for me.

      Love this read on the main menu theme too!!! Honestly it's such a nuanced track to me that I think you could have so many reads on it and they're all fairly thoughtful/intelligent.

    I did a playthrough of this game for twitch and I quit my playthrough once I got to Mahabre. It is because of the 'calm' track. The coughing sounds were disturbing me so badly that I couldn't think straight and ended up going in circles. I never finished the game and I'm scared to go back because I might be unable to complete it again for the same reason.

      Hell of a thing to have trauma from a game. I get it though. I remember reading a horror webcomic that I dropped simply because it was too disturbing for me. It genuinely makes me feel nauseous to remember what little I read through.

    Helloo! Really great video, love your analysis. Something I noticed I just wanted to raise was the very very tight cuts/edits between lines at points. Something I'd recommend is leaving some breaths in between lines and/or finding a bit of silence to insert to help with the flow of your sentences. Words jumping in suddenly one after the next can be quite jarring, especially in a video about audio. Overall though, amazing work!

    • @ellie-j9102

    I love how with Song of Torment, the ticking starts with music around it, and then the music just ends, with the ticking being the only thing you hear. It is slow, steady, focussing your mind on just the ticking. It leads you to anticipate the end, when something will show up, and then, it just ... ends.
    I just really love Song of Torment particularly. When you get so used to the nice calm of Ma'habre streets, it really keeps you on edge

    Good video, but highly suggest taking pauses at times and talking a little slower. You didn't give much time to really process many of the points you made before going straight to the next, and for much of the video the music you're talking about is barely audible.

    • @Woefool_
      @Woefool_  8 днів тому +6

      Very fair! I struggled quite a bit with where I wanted the music to be relative to my voice, especially since this is the first video I’ve done where the music really mattered, so I’ll definitely take some time to give it some breathing room on the next video. Especially since Funger’s soundtrack also tends to lean really quite on the mix lol. Appreciate the feedback!

    I've been meaning to make a video on F&H Audio design and you nailed it, Can't wait to see and hear more from you I'm now Subbed :D
    Edit: Only issue I have is the audio balancing, as you're going on a run on thought the entire time while being louder than the audio itself
    not an issue for me as I know the sounds and I can keep up, but for a few friend of mine it was jarring for them

  • @niwaka273

    I could hardly hear anything but your voice which is ironic since the video is supposed to be about game audio.
    Maybe talk less and slower to let the audience engage with the main focus of the video?
    Super Eyepatch Wolf made a wonderful review on F&H for example.
    Jacob Geller is also great at conveying the charms of the games he likes.

    The algorithm is pulling mate. I'd suggest to pace the narration a bit, as it ain't too relaxing tbf. Perhaps go with a deeper voice and pause abitta more. Tbh I'd rather watch a 40+ minutes badass video essay than a 30 mins rush. Great work on the timestamps btw. Subscribed to see you cook!

    The guitar part of Prelude to Darkness reminds me of Cahara’s S ending. The droning music in the beginning being the trauma he suffered in the dungeon, forever haunting him, yet he did what he came for, securing his family’s safety for generations to come, though he will always fear the worst…

      I've thought about if I want to or not, mostly because Termina has a lot more music and I have less experience with the game overall. I had another idea for Termina but with the reception of this video, I might pivot a bit and just make multiple videos on different topics related to Termina.

    Great work! Indepth and constructed, but little bit too fast, both with narrating and overall tempo of presentation. Not enough time to digest the information of consecutive segments, in my opinion. Would be amazing to see video about Termina on this topic. Again, much appreciated, thumbs up!

      @@SadClap for me it’s the perfect embodiment of discomfort. The track with the ambient sounds just screams ‘you’re not supposed to be here so get tf out’. Of course the entire game is telling you this bc of how aggressive everything is but not even the underground church exploration part, that should be way more gruesome due to what you see there, just doesn’t feel as claustrophobic as being inside the apartments.
      It goes without saying that any Rher’s dimension feels claustrophobic but that track alone makes me nervous and way more aware that it is claustrophobic :’)

    • @SadClap
      @SadClap 5 днів тому +1

      Agree. I think what makes it so good is that the very first time you listen to it, you don't really know if the screams are part of the track or from the environment (same goes with the "machine" sounds).
      It's similar to the chained dudes at the top of the Department Store screaming 24/7, you don't know until you check the source
      And yeah, the church basement is claustrophobic but for different reasons i guess (Crimson Fathers, blood pools, COFFINS and narrow corridors). Easy game over if you're not prepared.
      Thanks for taking your time to respond, have a good day/may your Funger runs be lucky :)
