I remember the image of Aravinda de silva walking in with a fierce expression on his face when Sri lanka had lost the crucial early wickets in that final of 1996 world cup . His face in that helmet was pure ferocity and defiance in the face of impending storm . And he won them that world cup alongside Ranatunga that too against Australia of 90s. Anyway please do a video on Romesh kaluwitharana , Jayasurya's opening partner. Not much is known about him .
@@aashutoshbhagat2677 Hi. I disagreed with another comment you made so to even karma I want to add to your comment here. Everyone says Adam Gilchrist changed the way keepers played. WRONG. Before Sri Lanka won the WC in 96, they toured the Australian summer in 95/96. Ian Healy was the established, and arguably greatest Australian keeper. He batted at 7 with a keeper like average and strike rate. Then we faced Sri Lanka promoting their keeper, Romesh Kaluwitharana to opener, and him acting like a pinch hitter. It was incredible. Australia immediately adopted this tactic after seeing it. Kaluwitharana prematurely ended Ian Healy's career, and ensured Adam Gilchrist would be the ODI opener for Australia for years to come. As Australia at the time were still opening in ODI's with their test match openers. Taylor and Slater. It wasn't workingZ Kaluwitharana is the main reason Australia separated its test and ODI teams in the mid 90's. Immediately after the WC 96, Australia started opening with Gilchrist and Mark Waugh. And dominance for Australia began for years. That's exactly how it happened. And Sri Lanka was the key
Don't forget the crucial contribution by the rock Asanka Gurusinghe. His partnership with Aravinda in the final was the key to that victory. That six he hit off of Warne over long off is iconic IMHO
The 1996 semi-final b/w India and Sri Lanka is one of the darkest days in cricket history. Also that semi-final was controversial because from what I heard the Indian captain Azarruddin won the toss and chose to bowl, when most of the Indian players were ready to bat. Vinod Kambli accused him of fixing the match and claimed that he ruined his career.
India was thoroughly beaten by SL during the group stage too which retired Prabhakar. Be humble in victory as in defeat no need to act like it was fixing that caused India to lose. When already thoroughly beaten earlier in group stages.
Cricket Stories , what went wrong that Chandika Hathurusingha & Sanjeewa Ranatunga whom is Arjuna Ranatunga's Brother never played in cwc 96, cwc 99 & after cwc 99, please let me know.
Sanjeewa was an ok test player but his strike rate was too low for ODI s. Hathurusinghe had his ups and downs but in around 94 Sri Lanka moved Jayasuriya up the order to open with Mahanama and they were successful comparatively so Hathurusinghe lost his spot.

Both of them were not good enough to keep their places.
