Azharuddin what a captain he was. Shier determination under any sort of pressure displayed his talent and maturity. More than his records, talents Sri Lankan will love him for ever for coming here during the turmoil in 1996 collaborating with Pakistan capt Wasim Akram and take part in a joint match with Sri Lanka to show the entire world that the world cup serious could be held in Sri Lanka. Which actually led Sri Lanka to collect couple of bonus points and conclude the tournament becoming the champs. Ultimately Azharuddin and Vasim Akram despite the traditional rivalry join handedly support Sri Lanka to win the most valuable championship ever. We as kids back then loved to see him batting, though it was not easy to see he scoring silently but matching the required rate.

he was a nightmare for the opponents. while coming at 8 or 9 we knew that he can win the game for SA with his hard hitting ability. For me he will always be part of all time playing 11 in ODI cricket. his bowling ability is pretty underrated too.
