  • A Kenmore model 158.13180 repair. It's time to put the finished machine back in the cabinet and get ready to send it off to a new home. The cabinet had multiple hinges so it could be used for a variety of machines and is in rough shape from a past life. I won't be refinishing the cabinet because I don't have a friend in mind to give this to. I will either freecycle it or donate it to a local thrift shop now.

Thanks for your helpful video. I have a Kenmore table in need of a machine. Might there you know of a list of the models that would fit?

hmmm, that's a tough one since Sears bought machines from different factories all the time. If you want a "correct" Kenmore for your cabinet you will need to look in old catalogs to find your cabinet and the machines advertised with it. There are old catalogs and a machine reference page on searsarchives.com/
If you just love the cabinet and want to find a machine that fits it then there are two measurements you need: The hole size (this is the rectangular space the machine bed will sit) and the hinge spacing (this is the distance between the hinge holes under the machine). There are several hinge spacings and a machine with the correct bed size for your cabinet hole may still have the wrong hinge pin spacing unless you are lucky and have a "universal" table with 3 hinge pins (spaced to accommodate two different machine hinge spacings, you only use the 2 hinge pins that match the spacing on your machine).

Henry, thank you for the video! I think I have the same machine given to me by my niece. Love the machine, it came with the instruction book and cabinet, very helpful! My issue is just the opposit of this video. I want to take the sewing machine out of the cabinet so I can work on the cabinet. I can't find video that shows me how to remove this model. Do I simply try to locate the screws that you tightened, loosen them and pull it off?

Yes, all the flip down Kenmores of this age just have 2 screws up under the machine to hold it on the hinges. They will probably be flathead screws and may be a bit hard to get a good angle on (I have several lengths of screwdrivers so I can make sure one fits straight on the screw head)
Typically you can just lift the machine as high as it goes and loosen the screws while the machine rests entirely on the hinges. After the screws are loose the machine should just lift off.

@@barbarapierson9980 feel free to email me at giantbluecanary@yahoo.com the screws may be small enough they are hard to see from the top. If you are very unlucky it is broken off. Do the hinges have screws visible in the cabinet? you can remove the wood screws on the cabinet and get the machine out for easier access on very stuck screws on the underside of the machine.
