He says that he was lonely and made Stanley to be a companion. The narrator needs some help working out his problems. And a hug
I like to imagine him as a dapper fellow, with a suit, glasses, maybe a tophat if you wish, and the ability to change his outfit on the spot so when as an example the joke about stanley spending all his money on hookers or something like that comes up, his outfit changes to a more party themed one.

I love it when he lectures us. I am one of the few people who could listen to him ranting for hours with pleasure. He definitely has some great points. It shows that he is a really deep thinker. In OG Stanley parable, the narrator can be very mean spirited to Stanley sometimes sadistic, but in Ultra Delux it seems like he's changed a bit like he was an actor in a role before, but now he's more human. Maybe he's become more human depending on our choices per route, or maybe he underwent some epiphany. But I think it could be that he's recognized that he's not the only person with power in his world, and that made him realize his treatment of Stanley really matters. It's a lot like Deltarune, but the narrator is the player, and we're Kris. He thinks we're just a vessel for movement/entertainment, he can do whatever he wants to us, but we want freedom. Even though the point of games is to tell a story, we want to make our own within in a pre-designed space, and the game maker/controller doesn't want that. He doesn't think we're real, but our choices (Stanley's choices) change that. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

I cried cause I know the pain of being lonely. My friends leaving (some dying) my family separating, I was in my own world. My own universe. I even went depressed until one guy came along. At that time I truly felt like I mattered. I wasn’t just a helper or a guy on the side. I MATTERED. we’re still friends, but now going to college the fear, torture and memory of loneliness remains, and I don’t think I’ll ever get away from it. I think this is what drives my fear of losing friends and want to be recognized. I don’t care about this grand scheme if the universe, or my role in it. I want to matter. I mean truly MATTER. I want people to listen in close wanting to hear what I have to say. I want to. Now, almost a decade later I don’t think I’ll ever get that. I think I want a hug too, but it pains me no one will see my suffering enough to give me one.
