This explains his quests in classic and why he's open to talk to horde characters.
Chris Metzen leaving really damaged wow forever.
It really did.
Don't worry. He's still voicing Thrall. Not that that's doing anything to the lore
i don't think people remember how much people disliked Thrall in Cata. The Green Jesus meme started under Metzen for a reason
@@ChumpkinINC Didn't Metzen himself hated that meme?
@@Frankthetank302 warlords was trash mostly because of lack of content and missing story that wasn't there. The actual story that was going I liked. It was like about a bit passed halfway through is when it started to fall off and things didn't make sense. Which was to wrap it up to go on to the next thing.
The story of itself was mostly fine and good. And was more so held back and altered cause of the state of everything else.
I remember back in 2007 when I was levleing my pally in badlands, and orc shaman came there,we fight for a hour, I killed him 3 times and he killed me 5,but at the end he saluted me. Funny how can you remember some if those stories after 15 years. That was the wow back then. And this story reminded me of that.
I have many similar stories. The uncanny feeling is that person you fought valiantly may not be alive any more today. 🫡
I was on my Horde resto druid in Nagrand and came across a dwarf holy pally. We went on for about 20 minutes, not even able to kill each other. Eventually, we stopped, /laugh and few other emotes, and went our way. Good times, good memories.

My Druid duelled a paladin in the Lumber Mill for 10-15 minutes before reinforcements changed the balance of the fight
This is legendary. As a shaman with a buddy who mains paladin currently in sod. We slightly get to relive this experience. I win 5-3 usually too but that's because he is decked out gnomeregan gear. I'm like 2 pieces of bis lol. Fun to read this
This was so good. Let's stop saving the universe, we need to have some good, down-to-earth, stories like this one again.
That's why i first fell in love with the game.
Yes! Down-to‐earth, grounded stories! like they said they would do in MoP... and BFA... I'm sure they will nail it this time!
yeh i still think they need to do some expansion about internal troubles within the alliance and horde, nothing too grandiose
FF has a similar thing going on right now. What mildly worries me in both instances is how the warriors who defeated the universe-eating gigamonster of all time and space are supposed to be challenged back home.
@@beelbrother1648 MoP and BFA were down to earth still tbh...
Old Gods are still namely Azeroth related regardless, and same with the Dragon Isles. As for A
SL...yeeeeaaahhh
Now imagine how cool it could be if at broken shore when Tirion was being tortured fucking Eitrigg came and fucking wrecked Krosus to save his old friend. Imagine if Blizzard knew what they were doing
This is the difference between passionate developers embracing their inner nerd, imagining deep fantasies and developers who are just in it for the paycheck.
If this story is ever revisited, Arthas should say something like, "May this be the last I'll ever see of Tirion Fordring," after the trial scene.
Makes me so angry Tirion was killed off (could have been possible Alliance leader) and Eitrigg was just forgotten in both their interaction. It literally makes no sense why Eitrigg did not meet up wth Tirion again or have a sequel in their interaction as a co-op faction quest in BFA or in Caverns of Time. Makes no SENSE REeeeeeeeeeee!!!!
they did but it was during a minor patch. While Tirion is over-seeing the construction of the tournement grounds in one of the sub-patches, Eitrigg visits him and they're chatting about the future. Tirion also gave Horde DKs a note via Mograine to give to Eitrigg to vouch for them to Thrall. And Eitrigg himself mentions in Zul'Drak that he's planning to go meet Tirion later once they've gotten things settled a bit in ZD.
Eitrigg also joins the AC at the time, and then mentions in Cata, that Tirion sent him back to continue being an envoy to the Horde, since Thrall wanted him to be part of the advisor committee for Garrosh.
@@ZanathKariashi Then isn't he a commander in the Arathi Basin warzone and killed by players? Or do those deaths not count?
@@manicmonarch2608 they're not killed, just driven off and forced to retreat until next time.
I gotta pick up that book. Also always figured orc's skin color changes a bit as they age. like they are brightly colored when they are young and it fades with age.
@@zorinzorinzorin5243 or because most Orcs die young in battle, at least lorewise
Orcs are originally brown. Their skin color may change based on their environment as with the Blackrock Orcs which is who I believe Eitrigg is which is why he has gray skin. Their skin turned green upon consumption of demon blood and then red after the first.
READ IT!!! WoW books were the only books I read outside of curriculum in middle school. And this particular book is so good I read it twice!
Green is not their original colour, it's from drinking the demons blood. So maybe the fading or change of colour is related to how connected they're with that demon blood.
It was only printed in the Warcraft Archive with Day of the Dragon, Lord of the Clans, and The Last Guardian.
Tirion requested Eitrigg's service to Thrall in the note he sent Horde Death Knights. You see him leading the Argent Stand in Zul'Drak.
@@billytringuyen1 lol
Those were the days when we had characters, story, gameplay, anguish, anger, frustration, and a dear and sincere love for the warcraft universe.
Uther be like: "Oh you're choosing to maintain your vow and oath as a Paladin, showing mercy to a foe and displaying a tremendous amount of courage and honour? That doesn't sound very Paladin, you're banned"
Thanks Asmon for watching Platinum WoW’s videos! You introduced me to him and I’ve been watching the hell out of his videos
Platinum wows videos are nothing short of incredible , the definition of passion and enthusiasm rolled into one. He does a better job of interpreting the lore than blizzard could ever dream of.
Also those fight scenes, and usahe of in-game animations and voices
For those who interested in reading this story, I am surprised Plat didn't mention, You'll never find a physical copy unless you're extremely and I mean extremely lucky. I did see one but that was entirely written in Chinese, even so it was expensive. Your best bet is to buy the Warcraft Archive book which not only contains the story but others as well!
You don't even need complex story to make a game good. Sometimes these simple stories of 2 warring sides and 2 happen chance people from each side meet and become friends. I feel like this type of story has been told so many times, but it's always great.
Anybody who plays tauren or night elf druids always felt like there was something missing in the way factions relations was handeled. Imo.
Often did i think that. Tauren druids i met almost never attacked my nightelf druid.
Or blood elf. We had to switch because of this and alliance still crying over not having high elves
@@thebunz7 i wasn't. Don't care that much about periods. Besides...i thought it was cool horde got an elf and we got a beast. Let them whine
Surprised so few people did Tirions quests in EPL. You learn about this and more.
For me it was the greatest questline, got me to find caer darrow and all that horror goodness. All of it was very cool and sad at the same time.
I did it when I was like 12 but it’s just such a long line and so obscure. It’s hidden in a random corner of the map and requires you to complete dungeons and kill a ton of stuff. The rewards were amazing but it’s just so out of the way.
Vanilla Wow had the bad habbit of putting quest givers in random out of the way locations and then leaving it up to chance if a player found them. Tirion was one of them so it's no wonder barely anyone could find him to experience the story.
I used to play a browser mmo back in the day that had 3 factions and let players talk and join parties and guilds with players from other factions.
It actually made for some interesting dynamics, for one, having 3 factions meant that you never really had 1 faction that dominated pvp, because if that ever became a problem the other two could and would band together against them.
Also, the simple ability to talk between factions made pvp less agressive, because you had friends orr even guildmates on the other side, youd run into "enemies" and might even go hunt stuff together rather than just kill on sight every time.
Dark Age of Camelot had the same 3 faction kind of setup and it made the pvp really varied and as you said prevented one faction from totally dominating
When I entered Thrall's throne room in Classic WoW I suddenly noticed Eitrigg standing there and I immediately remembered reading about this story on wowpedia. Then when I saw Tirion in EPL it clicked, I never realized "the guy that saves us from Arthas and then died in Legion" was the same guy who saved/got saved by Eitrigg! It made doing his questline so much more meaningful this time around.
BRO, how have you never read, “Of Blood and Honor”?! It’s amazing.
As Chat said, it was both Krosus and Gul'dan that took him out, and then dropping him into fel lava to fully finish him off.
As a bunch of the "heroes" of the alliance and horde stood and watched.
I met a troll in dalaran sewers as a nightelf and married him. 12 years ago. Nostalgia.
Nice story Cindy
This is why Fording's death in Legion was handled so piss poorly considering his lore. This is why I love that time period with stories like this and also stories like Morgan Ladimore (Mor'Ladim) who actually fought with Uther. I wish they'd have started WoW at the time of Lothar, Doomhammer and Blackhand....
I wanted to read a book after years and I picked this one like two months ago. Read it in two poops (its pretty short). Great book, easy to understand with good story.
The older WoW books are always good to read. It just lets you sit down and reminisce about simpler times
Yeah, fantastic book. It was the first warcraft book I read many years ago.
still tryna figure out why someone with so much lroe like tirion gets an undignified death in legion by being burn alive by some random demon
Two simple reasons. A we needed to get our hands on the Ashbringer. And B to raise the stakes at the start of the expansion, showing how no character is safe from the immense threat of the Legion.
3:05 i actually checked my pc glad asmon stated that
The other thing about warcraft is it shows there isn’t a good or bad side in a war.
When you look at the Horde, with out knowing, you would think they are the bad side and alliance is the “good side”.
Both sides are fighting to survive. Both sides betray their own to gain power.
I think I remember something about people in west fall being left to starve because of famine and there was a disease so the king didn’t want to help them. Stuff like that.
Not exactly “good” is it?
Ultimately, in the end, both sides are fighting for the same territory.
They both have cultures, they both live in peace amongst themselves, most of the time. They both have a sense of humour, want to look after family etc.
There is no good side and bad side.
Realistically it’s easy to sympathise with both in their cause.
They are just 2 factions trying to survive who co-operate when there is a shared threat. Much like in the real world but I won’t get into that.
I remember this story, I read it as a teenager. it feels so great to have that memory back, never forget honour
Actually Eitriigg joined the Argent Crusade back in Wrath, because of his frienship with Tirion Fordring.
Actually, thinking on the timeline, I don’t think that Balnazar had taken over Dathrohan’s body. He only took his body when he was fighting zombies. And if this book takes place before Warcraft 3, then the zombie outbreaks haven’t happened yet. Right? I’ve never played any of the Warcraft games, but I have played WoW, and I have watched a lot of platinumWoW’s videos.
in fact, the whole horde vs alliance thing was asspulled for WoW.
WC3TFT ended with everyone being "friends".
They could have gone with no factions and cool language learning quest-lines.
FFA PvP with a nice Outlaw/Bounty system and a hideout.

They killed tirion just to give players the ashbringer. xd
"It used to be just a story about masculinity and honor, and it was so good!"
Once in a blue moon, someone would just randomly summ everything up perfectly in one sentence
It seems that asmongold forgot how Uther vs Arthas went in the lore, Uther beat Arthas and was about to kill him but he remembered Arthas as a young apprentice and couldn't do it and while he was all in his feelings about it Arthas stabbed him.
Also it's kinda funny that both Uther and Illidan , who fought Arthas and were about to kill him , lost to him because they couldn't control their emotions / feelings / attitude .
I love these short lore bits animated using game assets. If only Blizzard could afford to do something similar. Small indie company though.
❤️ platinum wow … found him through watching Asmon. Now I look forward to each new video from him. So good!
Dathrohan wasn’t taken over by Balnazzar at this point in the lore. He was just a dude who hated orcs.
They also never were really able to strip Tirion’s connection to the Light.
I think the problem with the orc skin color is that the orcs were green (which is pretty common in other universes as well with orc and goblins being called "greenskins" for the very reason) by nature and turned red by demon blood (like the orc in TBC in hellfire citadel or Grom in W3 campaign), then they changed it to that orc are brown and turn green by demon blood but they never reconned it properly and left the old version in the universe in places. But I may be wrong since I am no expert. It just never made too much sense to me that the orcs would change color twice by drinking the demon blood.
Chris Metzen was the heart and soul of Warcraft alongside Sam Didier's art. After he moved on to other projects at Blizzard and then finally left. You can feel WoW's story decline each step.
I feel like Warcraft universe has some incredibly stories and rich lore, yes some are simple and some have contradicted things a bit. It's sad for me as a ex-WoW player, it's not just the gameplay that went to hell in a handbasket the lore followed. So I had neither a good story or a good gameplay. I hope Dragonflight is good for those still playing, I have many other games to keep me entertained. (I may dip my toe into some Wrath Classic but I feel like it's going clash with next tier of raiding in Final Fantasy, because of course it will :/ )
You may wonder why Tirion died in fight with Krosus. When he say "light give me one final blessing" this blessing was indeed final(no other blessings for him).
Platinum's videos are so good, with real character models and green screen wizardy.. I wish he would make an epic, long, cinematic WoW movie
My favorite character throughout wow was Nazgrim. We ranked up in the horde military together. He was everywhere in classic and all the expansions up until MoP. Only time in the whole game killing a boss made me sad.
somehow i remember that blizzard once said that its "impossible" to do cross-faction stuff... and now its coming to play?
The whole point of wc3 was jolly cooperation. The wow devs just squandered every story element of wc3 they could. Its a talent really
That was the best story I've seen in WoW
My biggest regret was that I took my copy every year to blizzcon (Warcraft omnibus) in the hopes I could get Chris’s signature. Day 2 of 2018… I leave the book because I wanted my bag to be lighter… and met Chris at the Joe Rays Bar…. I hate myself to this day…

It's almost like stories are good when they're just simple, small and down to earth. Not filled with 5D chess, universe ending calamities and stupid real world virtue signaling.
Dathrohand was not possessed yet in this story. That happened in the third war or at least after the culling and subsequent haunted eternal burning of stratholm
Saidan wasn't possessed yet by Balnazzar
In 2020, Metzen co-founded Warchief Gaming with Mike Gilmartin and Ryan Collins, a board game development company. Founders say making board games allows them to relive the atmosphere that reigned at Blizzard Entertainment before it became an AAA company.
These more down to earth stories, in the sideline of major events, is what the game should've focused on imho. Like alot of the minor sidequests that still had some followup in Witcher 3. It makes the world feel alive.
Great story, and big props to Platinum WoW. Always loved his lore content :)
So whether my view of Blizzard/WoW has crumbled to the pits of hell, early story aspects were good yes, and I'm sure a huge part with Metzen, I've always thought he was the core of the warcraft story, so him leaving was like the core of a planet cooling and slowly year after year watching the planet die a miserable death.
It’s crazy cause in MoP alliance and horde we’re supposedly working together, but I remember timeless isle being a bloodbath 24/7
Every wow expansion is the same "oh stop the giant evil force of such and such and become an overpowering mess" game used to be so great before all this
Dude this book release 8 months before i was born. Wtf Metzen?!
I really like that Asmon always says "It's me not you" whenever he gets a windows error noise.
Wow so this time Uther decided to do what must be done
Garrosh actually accepts dk's to horde cause Tyrion vouched for them.
The disconnect sounds when eidric was cut down killed me
0:00 perfect cold opening!
Kingdom Hearts has a crazy complex storyline and the games aren’t in chronological order… still minimal plot holes with excellent storytelling and gameplay if you actually took the time to understand the story… most people just say “it’s a mess” cause they don’t try to get it.
good joke. Kingdom hearts stories is dogshit and a mess of a retcon
@@Thanatos2k wrong...spoken like someone who doesnt understand the story
@@Thanatos2k You may think that, but ill always be here to bring you back...
Can we just admit Tirion would have survived Krosus if he hadn't been sucked dry of all his holy light powers by Bluether?
The dungeons and raids teaming up actually works out pretty nicely for Shadowlands. Since outdoors content is excluded don't use it much in casual everyday content (ZM dailies etc). Legion felt mostly crossfaction united except for PvP toggle/towers.
that opening though
If you read the quests you would know that the alliance is the evil faction and the horde is the good one.
dunno if someone already said it but imma leave it here, Eitrigg was present at Tyrion Burial
"Holy fu*#*#* sh*#. I'm old!" Dude I feel so old now 😅😂🤣
“That’s me, not you” literally fucking read my mind
Its so simple but soo good. True. I am new to the fanbase so could someone tell me did asmon react to tales of the past or not? If not i wish he will react to that machinima.
Don't think he has reacted to it, But i would wager he has seen it as it was such a huge phenomenon back in the day.
he didn't just walk out like that. he really used the jump glitch to get to the basement of stormwind and escaped that way. lol
Wow this story was amazing, it's a shame it's been replaced by these cross dimension multi-year time bending dragon fighting "stories" which are just overconvoluted to make it look like there's good story there
Bro I looked for that notification and I don't even use Windows
Tyrion waited until Orc will fight can fight in full power, but Asmon doesn't care, since maining warrior makes you lose your IQ every time you use spinn, or how that shit called.
A simple yet beautiful story like this should have been used as a vehicle to tell the story of Warcraft in the film. As it is much more down to earth, relatable and appealing and it ties together a few pivotal events which could establish and convey the story line so the viewer could understand. Opening of the dark portal and the origin of the orcs, The kingdoms of men, and so on and so forth. From there it could act as a springboard to really go anywhere and anywhere in the story.
The Warcraft movie was much too grandiose in that it tried to cover too big a span of events, and it ended up a jumbled hectic bunch of scenes stitched together. The characters and events were too short and too many to be able to develop a bond with the characters or create a compelling narrative.
This brings me back to why I started to love Warcraft in the first place. I remember seeing things in the world like Uthers tomb, or village names, and then I'd look them up and go into a lore hole reading about all the big historical events that took place there. The stories were deeply personal ones of tragedy, loss, but also triumph and hope. Themes which resonate out of happenings in our own lives. Good times.
Vanilla WoW pvp on a PvE server always had to find a group for horde then switch and start one for alliance
World of Warcraft needs like several expansions of NOT dealing with a crisis, a period of rebuilding and recovery is direly needed
Eitrigg was a part of the Argent Crusade in WOTLK, he was at the Argent Stand in Zul'Drak. He was the commander of the outpost. So yeah they don't have any interaction in game but to think they never saw each other again is false.
My headcannon is that they banged in that tower.
Everyone wanna kill arthas but no one wanna lift no heavy ass sword
I never played WoW, but that story is really good and it helps whenever asmon explains a little of the background :)
I will never understand game developers obsession with capturing players interest in the lore solely with existential world threats.
WoW did it with multiple expansions that focus solely around the destruction of Azeroth.
RuneScape did it with multiple questlines that focus solely on the destruction of Gielinor.
Elder Scrolls did it as well, they smartened up quite a bit come the MMO.
I personally find lore more captivating when it's interesting, simple, and relatable. The possible destruction of the world we're playing in is an overused trope.
Actually, in Warcraft 2, didn't the first instance of Horde/Alliance cooperation take place when Alterac formed a non-aggression pact with the Horde?
this story is pretty much world of warcrafts version of Gotrek and Felix from warhammer.
This story came out before WC3 in 2001, probably to promote the game with it.

It's so sad when I first saw Eitrigg in this video I was like "oh he's the guy on the horde boat in BFA" and we never hear this other stuff in game
Such a great story
Says it was pathetic for Tirion to die to Krosus, a demon that needed an army of both Horde and Alliance, along with at least six leaders (Varian, Jaina, Sylvanas, Thrall, Vol'jin, Greymane) who were powerful combatants respectively to actually put it down. Makes sense.
Technically Gul'dan killed Tirion because he summoned Krosus and held Tirion suspended above fel with fel magic for Krosus to breath fel fire on him. Still fucking sad but it's true.
What I loved about ''good ole'' warcraft titles and vanilla era is that it felt more tribal on the Horde side and middle ages on the Alliance side. I could almost smell the air and feel the terrain and warcraft race's religions how well represented it was trough the simpler stories, colors of the world, music and graphics / animations.
Nowdays we're fucking flying spaceships, going to the future and past, killing titans and death gods, like what the fuck... Back in my day casting a spell was a fucking huge deal man...
This is why Tirion is the EPL. This is one of the best stories in WoW and I amaze someone everytime I show them.
Arthas doing the thriller may be the greatest thing ever.
How did blizz not make this story a caverns of time dungeon in wow seriously so many lore moments described in books that would’ve been awesome as actually gameplay
This should be a tv series on these 2.
Um, you get Orc allies in one of the maps in the Warcraft 2 expansion, so yeah, its older then you think
that was a really good video
