- Time for another Norwegian classic! 🔥
It’s hard to choose but „Death Cult Armageddon“ is probably my favorite Dimmu Borgir album and has been a major influence for me ever since. Nick Barkers drumming is on another level and has inspired so many of us.
As a little tribute to this masterpiece I wanted to cover another song from this album and this time its „Allehelgens Dod I Helveds Rike“.

@@Reaper2004 I believe Mustis left because he got screwed financially and Vortex also did in support of him. But if you want more of his gorgeous voice, the last few Borknagar albums are excellent

Even 20 years later, no BM band matched the level of grandiosity Death Cult Armageddon had.
Nick Barker is a huge part of that. His drumming is just so fitting and tasty. Truly one of the greats.
Emperor did, at least on Anthems and IX. Also, if you don't know them, listen Sirius' 2 albums. Some of the best symphonic black metal ever made.
@@ItsNotaTuhmah those are all excellent albums, but I agree with OP that DCA is probably the best executed in terms of production, arrangement, catchy hooks and song structures, and evoking that “cinematic” feeling. But I know some of these things are seen as negatives by purists (and I have been one of them at some points in my life).

this is one of my favorite dimmu records. the songs are so memorable it's a perfect balance of brutality and melody. the orchestra also does a great job of holding it all together with theatrical atmosphere.
From the way he plays and the distance of the beater from the kick drum you know this guy is capable of delivering an organic kick sound with clear definition at that speed if its necessary. He really put effort on his practices.

Love that album, it's perfect and Dimmu without Vortex is not same with choir
And Mustis, who was actually the main songwriter after EDT. You can notice how the riffs are worked around the string arrangements.
Yeah, the choir and backing track are so lame. It is so hard for them to get a session singer for records and live shows ? Many othe rbands do that.

@@drunken-skunk I know Tony, he played for them for live shows many times! He's also great but he just didn't have the nick barker feeling to me
@@drunken-skunk Tony did not fit into Dimmu well. Amazing drummer in all the other projects he was involved with, but as Twall mentions, his feel for this band wasn't quite right.
@@TwallThePk It wasn't so much Nick Barker, rather the whole Dimmu feel. It was almost as though Tony was too technical for them, perhaps in his phrasing. Something never seemed to gel. But yeah, unfuckingbelievable drummer. First saw him live with Angelcorpse and was dumbfounded.

Not the same..it seems shagrath has forced quality talent players out that band..that in my opinion made there sound...there currently drummer Delray.. is ok.."Krimh "..would be a better fit for them"..krimh has a better live show. That tons of drummersand players lack today..look at dimmu new concerts..very boring live..guys are just there in costumes..lol..the lights and stage banners are the live spark.sad to say

I was 14 when this album came out and at that time it was the most badass stuff I had ever heard. I remember playing the song on repeat because the ending with the cymbal chokes is just hilarious and epic at the same time. Thanks for reminding me how great this album really was, and as always, you did a killer job with the drumming

I really admire the way you mixed your drums in here. It is seamless, yet, somehow, punchy! Specifically, that hi hat mix is creating this mid level chomp that I find INCREDIBLY pleasing. The entire cover and mix RULES, but man. Thank for posting this playthrough! I don't know if I've ever sat down and consumed this specific Dimmu song before either!

As s huge Rush fan, the biggest compliment that I can give Barker is that this part is beautifully and perfectly crafted for the composition, not to show off, in the same way Peart created his drum parts for Rush. Pure excellence!

Nick Barker is on another level entirely and Krimh sets a standard that so few can reach.
Love this album too. I can imagine our neighbours must've loved it too, as I blasted it 24/7 back when it came out. These days the kids just listen on their little bluetooth speakers (or phone speaker even) but I had a full blown 5.1 setup with 100W per channel 😅
Oh and my favorite part of this song is the ending, those BLEGH's are just the best!
