Most all frameless end dumps have breakaway or shear pins in them, so they don't take trucks over with them if they're laid over. I'd walk my truck toward the trailer and when 80% or so of the material was out then I'd set the tractor brakes and walk the trailer to me. It also really helps if you have a 6" or 8" spot mirror above your main driver side mirror. You can watch your ram go up and gauge it against your stacks on the truck to help with checking your leaning, works great.
Thanks for the video, nice to see how you do things over there 🤟as a dump truck driver myself, I don't understand that why you have to do manually so much things. Also it looks pretty complicated compared to our dumpers here in the Nordics. We usually don't use semis in dirt/gravel hauling since they either don't fit the narrow places or they can't take enough load compared to a truck and a trailer combination. They can take about 30 something tons when my 4-axle truck takes 18 tons and my 4-axle trailer 27 tons. And the dumping is the same with a semi and a truck; you reverse to your dump spot, put the PTO on, open the tailgate with hydraulics and dump it. It takes about 30sec and you don't need to get out of the truck even once. Then you need if you have a truck plus trailer combination. And the only thing is that you need to disconnect and connect the airhose and the electrics. Then you just go and dump the truck, get back to your trailer, drive the box from the trailer on to our truck with hydraulics, go dump the trailer box and then just drive the box back on the trailer, connect the hoses and off you go 😄 If you got more interested about what I tried to explain just copy this and put it in the search bar: "Kim Silénin SLP kasettiyhdistelmä"

This road is getting to me as well. Where are you located? I’ve thought about the same question if I were to ever be able to find a home daily end dump job. So you wouldn’t technically need the sleeper. But I’ve had plenty of day cabs assigned to me. And from what I’ve learned is they def are a rougher ride and a lot less space. If you could find one with a small sleeper I think would be beneficial. If you ever did get stuck somewhere for an extended period at least you would have the option to lay down for a bit. And could use it for extra storage space if you needed the room for tools, parts etc.
Awesome video. I just purchased a Volvo semi truck mid roof with PTO on it and also the fifth wheel sits flat with lock handl. I wanna use it for dry van. Do I need to remove the PTO?
You don’t need to remove the PTO. You maybe could drain the hydraulic fluid to free up some weight. Also, on your fifth wheel be sure you remove the blocks so that way it can tilt as it should.

Welcome man! It’s easy peasy man. I’ve never operated one before here neither. You’re going to do great over here. Any questions, don’t hesitate to ask. Safety it’s the main thing. Just stay level, and don’t pull out while all the way until you get the hang of it. As you catch on it will get easier and you will learn how to slowly pull out while it’s all the way up to let the products slide out
Great video my guy💪🏽 I’m about to start CDL school and also about to buy my own tractor and dump trailer. My question for you is when you school for your CDL, is the training for hauling a trailer(whatever trailer) part of the schooling or just driving the tractor?
It will be part of the school. They most likely will have you pull a dry van trailer at school. Good luck, and let me know if you have any trouble with anything when you start. I’ll give you any tips or trucks that may help you.
I do it differently when hauling rock or dirt I set the tractor breaks let the trailer walk towards me and it clears the mess u dump instead of moving 10 times
There is and I’ve seen drivers do it. But this company i contract for has a policy and they train us not to. I believe it would be situational so I couldn’t tell you a scenario where you would tho.

I can get you with a recruiter from Oakley also and he can get you pre approved for employment if needed for a truck purchase.

It def is another ball game. The driving part is no biggie. On the unloading is where it counts. Def take your time, if you don’t feel right about a spot to unload it’s probably cause something isn’t right. Staying level is the main thing and keeping your truck and trailer straight with enough room to pull forward and still be able to set yourself down. Don’t get rushed by other trucks waiting for you to unload and don’t let them idiots unload directly next to you. One at a time! Those are just a few. I’d say it took me a solid 6 months till I got completely comfortable. And still 2 years later it’s nerve racking every time I stand one up. Good luck to you. There was a dump driver few months ago hit a bridge on interstate 16 few miles from Dublin ga i always wondered how do they not know it's up when driving is there no warning sound that's the box raised is the pto bad or what?
I’ve seen some of those videos. I was actually worried about that when I leased onto this company. I asked the trainer about that and he said we don’t have to worry about that with those trailers. Idk why or remember his explanation but it is def something I constantly fear about and keep an eye on while I’m driving. There’s no buzzer or indication lights it’s being raised. So my guess is the switch those guys have accidentally and easily gets flipped and they don’t realize it. I’ll inquire more about it and let you know what our safety guy says on the reasoning or precautions to take on this type of matter. It’s something I need to be more aware or myself.
@@CruzTubePulled the same trailer as you’ve got. Always leave your PTO off and leave your up down in neutral or down. If you drive with your PTO ENGAGED you will definitely hear it’s on and you won’t have a transmission after a very short time. Accidentally left mine engaged pulling out of a field leaving a farm delivery I didn’t make the end of the drive and knew I’d left it on. Shut it off didn’t hurt anything. Best thing to do is put a bright red light on your dash that comes on when you engage the PTO. Then you won’t forget it’s on. This truck has an irritating beeper that comes on when it’s on. That works too.
It’s a 2019, Cummins x15 with 525 hp, 13 speed trans, 14k front axle (def want a heavy duty front axle), 240 wheel base, 3.70 rear axle ratio. The wet kit was already on the truck when I bought it. You want to get as light of a truck as possible. Cause in end dump typically the more weight you haul the more money you make. In my case I’m paid by the mile. But Oakley wants your truck to be under 20k lbs. I can have a recruiter call you and give you some more info if you’d like. They actually helped with giving me the steps I needed to take and pre approving me for employment and that helped with getting a truck loan
Great video man. I just started selling end dumps Monday. No prior experience in trucking. Former Marine and currently a full time firefighter so I have so loose experience with big rigs but this was very helpful. Any advice for a guy selling these things?
Oooorah! Devil as far as sales go I would say to know how these things operate. Like hands on experience. Obviously you not going to be out there dumping loads. But If you could raise one up a time or two so you have the idea. Cause I would assume a driver would be in there asking a bunch of questions. And imo if I ask a salesman a question about something and he doesn’t know, I’m going to want a new salesman. Where are you located? Semper Brother! I should be doing two ride slings this week with some of the sister companies drivers. Couldn’t agree more, no better way to learn than left seat/right seat style. I’m located in Syracuse, NY. I’d love to know more about what it is your hauling. I know locally, our end dumps are primarily used for salt and concrete depending on the season. We are located just outside of huge dairy country. Do you find yourself doing lots of work with farmers? Again, I have a slight background in farming as I’ve worked here and there on all types of farms my whole life so I’m thinking that’s a potential market for me to engage with.
@@pinfalt7750 that’s good, on your ride along I would suggest learning all the different ways to dump with opening the gate differently so you can learn how easy or difficult it is. Like the new trailer I have, the latch is a PITA. So you could suggest something if a potential would determine opening the gate a certain way. I’m actually trying to catch a load up your way. I know this company I’m pulling for has a lot going up that way than into Canada. I’ve hauled everything from salt dirt, clay, gravel, various types of scrap metal , fertilizer, animal feed, grain, roofing granules. Just to name a few.

@@pinfalt7750 thank you. And no, do these aluminum trailers don’t have a liner. But I have noticed this new trailer, floor has easily gotten lines in its. I’m guessing since it’s a post covid production that they used thinner material. But the trailer in this video you seen was several years old and that floor was as smooth as a bowling alley.
Yes I do, I usually leave out Monday and come home Friday. Every now and than I’ll get lucky and have local work. But it’s rare. This week actually I’m running abilene Tx to Midlothian Tx. So I’ll be home everyday until this run empties out. Than back to sleeping on the road after this.
What kind of 5th wheel do you have? Company i work for has what they call an "articulated 5th wheel" and its designed to allow the 5th wheel to move sideways making the nose of the trailer shift from side to side. (Pretty scary watching it do this) looks like your about to drop a trailer when making turns.
@@CruzTube yeah there is several greese fittings for it too. Appatently half the base needs to sit on greese or it can cause the truck to swerve going highway speeds since its rubbing metal.
The only way I have done it and was shown was to set the truck brakes first that way the trailer pulls to the truck when unloading. Have you done it that way,if so what's the difference?
No I haven’t. when I leased onto Oakley we were told to not to do it that way. I’ve heard it is dangerous. Can’t tell you exactly why. But I never see anyone do it that way. Even other companies.
Sure no problem. I don’t unload that way often so I can’t tell you I’ll have a video immediately like that. But next time I swing gate it I’ll def be sure to record from the top.

More or less it’s around $5k I believe. For instance this company I’m leased to will install it on your truck for you and just take it out in payments from your weekly settlement check.

They fall over all the time,make sure that you are at least 40feet from any one else dumping so you don't crush the person beside you if it does tip over.Good video.
It’s called a coal shoot. It’s usually used in a conveyer belt unload or small space unload. Keep the big door closed and raise it up. Than open the small door. It opens from the bottom up. Usually used for granules, salt, sand ext. I have a salt unload video for a reference.

As long as the air is dumped you technically don’t have to. It’s just a habit for me so that way when I set the trailer back down and air up the bags, it will already be lifted. The couple times I didn’t raise it for dump, after I was done and aired them up I forgot to raise it and drove with it down when I didn’t need to.
Why do you put it in gear turn on the PTO and then take it out of gear? Engaging the clutch is going to allow you to turn on or off the PTO safely so why put it in gear?
The technical answer I cannot give. That’s the way I’ve always been taught on company driver jobs. So I figure it’s proper procedure and might as well continue that order since I am now responsible for this equipment since it is my truck.

@@CruzTube What’s up Cruz,Arthurburke here I asked you that because I’m been operating frame type trailers now for a while and just never liked the Scissors ✂️ type trailers,not to say there bad but I’ve seen them go over so easily once one of the tandem’s axles is off the ground leaving you with less support dumping. With the frame trailer all 8 tires are on the ground,but still able to flip over if you don’t know what your doing, pretty much what you said about loading and clearance from tree’s,wires,hole’s in ground is all right !!! I’ve been on 4 trailers wheels dumping and was lucky enough to catch it in mid air before it got going over. There things I would do with a frame trailer that I would never try with a frameless trailer!!! But that only comes with experience,but you can carry more than a frame trailer so they say. Weight wise,what ever your Registered for ? Over weight permits ? But they do look 👀 good,there just something I would have to get used to. And I see your hauling for the Oak boy’s,I’ve seen them from time to time and talked to a few of there Driver’s, and it seems like they keep you guys moving all over,and I thought of giving them a call 📞 once I get ready to move out of Massachusetts. Thinking South Carolina in a year or so, I’ve been hauling demo dump trailers regular dump trailers lowbeds pretty much that’s what I’m into!!! There's literally no advantage of end dump trailers vs side dumps. Its really annoying that many companies in the south don't use em. Side dumps are alot simpler, allow for dumping while moving, stronger since the tub is solid steel, allow for alot more versatile loads likes trees or other things that'd get stuck in the tailgate of the end dump, and most importantly SAFER.
@@55bobito I heard that brother. I’ve actually never seen a side dump in action so I can’t say much about the subject. BUT I will agree with you on the safer comment. Cause I still pucker up when I have to dump a sketchy load.
@@CruzTube ya its weird that they're rare here. I've been trucking in the Dakotas where there's nothin but side dumps, belly dumps and straight truck end dumps. But the wind up there makes these an absolute no go.
Sometimes the dirt will fall on 1 side and get stuck on the other side just like U said in the video. How can U do something that U can't master all the time.
If something like that happens… 1. If you realise while you’re still being loaded, you can tell them and hopefully they can correct it with their equipment 2. If you get to unload and than you notice it, we’ll you will have to get in there and start shovelling product to the other side. That’s why end dump drivers carry a shovel with them

@@ronaldjackson764 if you a good driver you will know cause you will climb on top of the trailer and look either when and while they are loading you, or when you go to dump. It’s best to climb it every time or at least take a good look when you open your tailgate. Besides you need to check your trailer tires every time you dump because if you raise it while you have a flat you def will tip that thing over.

Well every truck you see pulling a Oakley trailer is a owner operator. We don’t have a single company driver here. I can give you an idea of owner operator pay here if that’s what you are wondering
@@homeromunoz7223 it fluctuates cause of the fuel surcharge. It changes weekly, but it’s typically around $2.70 a mile. Each week after fuel and deductions I’m bringing home right at $3,000
No it’s not complicated at all. A little more dangerous than your typical truck driving but if the proper order of operations are followed, it’s 100% safe.

What type of camera did you use inside of trailer while it was going up?
It is a GoPro hero 8.

I’ve seen some of those videos. I was actually worried about that when I leased onto this company. I asked the trainer about that and he said we don’t have to worry about that with those trailers. Idk why or remember his explanation but it is def something I constantly fear about and keep an eye on while I’m driving. There’s no buzzer or indication lights it’s being raised. So my guess is the switch those guys have accidentally and easily gets flipped and they don’t realize it. I’ll inquire more about it and let you know what our safety guy says on the reasoning or precautions to take on this type of matter. It’s something I need to be more aware or myself.
Law in my state says you got to have a red light on the DASH.
@@CruzTubePulled the same trailer as you’ve got. Always leave your PTO off and leave your up down in neutral or down. If you drive with your PTO ENGAGED you will definitely hear it’s on and you won’t have a transmission after a very short time. Accidentally left mine engaged pulling out of a field leaving a farm delivery I didn’t make the end of the drive and knew I’d left it on. Shut it off didn’t hurt anything. Best thing to do is put a bright red light on your dash that comes on when you engage the PTO. Then you won’t forget it’s on. This truck has an irritating beeper that comes on when it’s on. That works too.

It’s a 2019, Cummins x15 with 525 hp, 13 speed trans, 14k front axle (def want a heavy duty front axle), 240 wheel base, 3.70 rear axle ratio. The wet kit was already on the truck when I bought it. You want to get as light of a truck as possible. Cause in end dump typically the more weight you haul the more money you make. In my case I’m paid by the mile. But Oakley wants your truck to be under 20k lbs. I can have a recruiter call you and give you some more info if you’d like. They actually helped with giving me the steps I needed to take and pre approving me for employment and that helped with getting a truck loan
Great video man. I just started selling end dumps Monday. No prior experience in trucking. Former Marine and currently a full time firefighter so I have so loose experience with big rigs but this was very helpful. Any advice for a guy selling these things?
Oooorah! Devil as far as sales go I would say to know how these things operate. Like hands on experience. Obviously you not going to be out there dumping loads. But If you could raise one up a time or two so you have the idea. Cause I would assume a driver would be in there asking a bunch of questions. And imo if I ask a salesman a question about something and he doesn’t know, I’m going to want a new salesman. Where are you located? Semper Brother! I should be doing two ride slings this week with some of the sister companies drivers. Couldn’t agree more, no better way to learn than left seat/right seat style. I’m located in Syracuse, NY. I’d love to know more about what it is your hauling. I know locally, our end dumps are primarily used for salt and concrete depending on the season. We are located just outside of huge dairy country. Do you find yourself doing lots of work with farmers? Again, I have a slight background in farming as I’ve worked here and there on all types of farms my whole life so I’m thinking that’s a potential market for me to engage with.
@@pinfalt7750 that’s good, on your ride along I would suggest learning all the different ways to dump with opening the gate differently so you can learn how easy or difficult it is. Like the new trailer I have, the latch is a PITA. So you could suggest something if a potential would determine opening the gate a certain way. I’m actually trying to catch a load up your way. I know this company I’m pulling for has a lot going up that way than into Canada. I’ve hauled everything from salt dirt, clay, gravel, various types of scrap metal , fertilizer, animal feed, grain, roofing granules. Just to name a few.

I’m guessing since it’s a post covid production that they used thinner material. But the trailer in this video you seen was several years old and that floor was as smooth as a bowling alley.

Yes I do, I usually leave out Monday and come home Friday. Every now and than I’ll get lucky and have local work. But it’s rare. This week actually I’m running abilene Tx to Midlothian Tx. So I’ll be home everyday until this run empties out. Than back to sleeping on the road after this.

What kind of 5th wheel do you have? Company i work for has what they call an "articulated 5th wheel" and its designed to allow the 5th wheel to move sideways making the nose of the trailer shift from side to side. (Pretty scary watching it do this) looks like your about to drop a trailer when making turns.
I’m going to have to look that up. Didn’t know there was such a thing. Mine is the factory 5th wheel with factory blocks. It’s a jost I believe.
@@CruzTube yeah there is several greese fittings for it too. Appatently half the base needs to sit on greese or it can cause the truck to swerve going highway speeds since its rubbing metal.

The only way I have done it and was shown was to set the truck brakes first that way the trailer pulls to the truck when unloading. Have you done it that way,if so what's the difference?
No I haven’t. when I leased onto Oakley we were told to not to do it that way. I’ve heard it is dangerous. Can’t tell you exactly why. But I never see anyone do it that way. Even other companies.
You can tip over real easy with all the weight still in the nose........get the weight to tthe bottom of the trailer before moving the trailer.

Ah I’m not familiar with tippers. I haven’t seen any here. All the trailers I’ve seen are like this or half rounds that operate the same.

What is the small door on the big door?
It’s called a coal shoot. It’s usually used in a conveyer belt unload or small space unload. Keep the big door closed and raise it up. Than open the small door. It opens from the bottom up. Usually used for granules, salt, sand ext. I have a salt unload video for a reference.

How many yards/tons can these carry?
I typically haul 23 tons with this setup. Every now and again depending on fuel I may be able to hold 23.5. Not sure on yardage wise.

why raise the lift axle?
As long as the air is dumped you technically don’t have to. It’s just a habit for me so that way when I set the trailer back down and air up the bags, it will already be lifted. The couple times I didn’t raise it for dump, after I was done and aired them up I forgot to raise it and drove with it down when I didn’t need to.

Why do you put it in gear turn on the PTO and then take it out of gear? Engaging the clutch is going to allow you to turn on or off the PTO safely so why put it in gear?
The technical answer I cannot give. That’s the way I’ve always been taught on company driver jobs. So I figure it’s proper procedure and might as well continue that order since I am now responsible for this equipment since it is my truck.

@@CruzTube What’s up Cruz,Arthurburke here I asked you that because I’m been operating frame type trailers now for a while and just never liked the Scissors ✂️ type trailers,not to say there bad but I’ve seen them go over so easily once one of the tandem’s axles is off the ground leaving you with less support dumping. With the frame trailer all 8 tires are on the ground,but still able to flip over if you don’t know what your doing, pretty much what you said about loading and clearance from tree’s,wires,hole’s in ground is all right !!! I’ve been on 4 trailers wheels dumping and was lucky enough to catch it in mid air before it got going over. There things I would do with a frame trailer that I would never try with a frameless trailer!!! But that only comes with experience,but you can carry more than a frame trailer so they say. Weight wise,what ever your Registered for ? Over weight permits ? But they do look 👀 good,there just something I would have to get used to. And I see your hauling for the Oak boy’s,I’ve seen them from time to time and talked to a few of there Driver’s, and it seems like they keep you guys moving all over,and I thought of giving them a call 📞 once I get ready to move out of Massachusetts. Frame for inexperienced sizzer you can walk tracter/trailer while unloading affront lay down machine/work with dump foreman
Why look if its level, isnt there a level switch that stops the rise of the thing when its not level,?
In my truck there is no level switch or indicator. Better safe than sorry. It costs nothing to look at it when in doubt

There's literally no advantage of end dump trailers vs side dumps. Its really annoying that many companies in the south don't use em. Side dumps are alot simpler, allow for dumping while moving, stronger since the tub is solid steel, allow for alot more versatile loads likes trees or other things that'd get stuck in the tailgate of the end dump, and most importantly SAFER.
Also you don't need to get out the truck to dump a load.

@@CruzTube ya its weird that they're rare here. I've been trucking in the Dakotas where there's nothin but side dumps, belly dumps and straight truck end dumps. But the wind up there makes these an absolute no go.
Sometimes the dirt will fall on 1 side and get stuck on the other side just like U said in the video. How can U do something that U can't master all the time.
If something like that happens… 1. If you realise while you’re still being loaded, you can tell them and hopefully they can correct it with their equipment 2. If you get to unload and than you notice it, we’ll you will have to get in there and start shovelling product to the other side. That’s why end dump drivers carry a shovel with them

@@ronaldjackson764 if you a good driver you will know cause you will climb on top of the trailer and look either when and while they are loading you, or when you go to dump. It’s best to climb it every time or at least take a good look when you open your tailgate. Besides you need to check your trailer tires every time you dump because if you raise it while you have a flat you def will tip that thing over.

Well every truck you see pulling a Oakley trailer is a owner operator. We don’t have a single company driver here. I can give you an idea of owner operator pay here if that’s what you are wondering

No it’s not complicated at all. A little more dangerous than your typical truck driving but if the proper order of operations are followed, it’s 100% safe.
