I'm thankful for guys like him who takes time out of his day to explain how to do his job and in as much detail as possible. Seems like a great guy. I'm thinking of getting into the dump trailer sect of trucking so this helps. So even tho this is close to dump truck it's still completely different and to me much more complex and dangerous so yeah guys like him are a big help.

I watched your video yesterday because i was using a dump trailer for the first time today… Thanks to you and your tips, everything went well today!! Thx bud! 👌🏻🤘🏻
I grew up around dump trucks and dump trailers and drove them both for over 30 years and you did a great job with this one. The one thing that I do differently is put air back in the truck suspension so that keeps the truck from spinning like what happened to you when you pulled up and the other thing is with a frameless trailer I only used the hand brake because if you needed to move fast you can jam it in gear and release the brakes faster with the hand valve. Dumping a frameless in landfills for years and had many situations where it sank on one side and just being able to quickly pull up 5 feet made the difference between a good dump or a long bad day. You do a great job taking care of Idlewild's equipment Wes and it shows that you take pride in your work. A lot slobs would just run down the road and sling that material out of the wheels at other vehicles.
Thanks for watching. Great advice on the trolly brake. I think it actually applies more pressure too. I’ve had frameless roll forward when the trailer brakes were set but wouldn’t roll with the trolly set. Plus like you mentioned it’s much quicker in case you need to act fast. Thanks for the comment and advice.
One thing about frameless or quarter frame you can push yourself out if stuck, up the box to you, apply trailer brake and down your trailer while helping in low gear, also good to turn around on a barge with your box up, watch your gate though!

Job well done Wes. Covered and explained everything. One thing that I would add is taking care of the equipment so that way everything goes accordingly. You and the company you work for, you do that very well taken care of your truck and trailer.
Thanks for watching. Yea that’s a great point about taking care of equipment. A truck/trailer that isn’t taken care of can be a dangerous thing. Thanks for the advice.

Thank you. I just bought a dump trailer to pull with my cord super duty, so this video wasn’t exactly what I was looking for but was very informative and I’m sure some stuff is transferable to a “little” trailer like mine. Thanks again.
Thank you for taking the time to detail this process. My 2 questions are: does anyone make a vibrating feature that would help loosen stuck materials? If your load is stuck is it ok to lower the dump half way and then reverse your truck and hit the brakes? Not going super fast or super far.
You are awesome. Forming a repetitive habit will always keep you and the truck safe. Trucking is a hard and dangerous job if you rush the safety steps.
I run a dumping pad for incinerator Ash and if I have a saw someone get out with the bucket all the way up I would write them up .very unsafe. Yes we keep trucks 40 ft apart so if it falls over there's no chance of hitting the truck next to you and we have had trucks go over
Very informative. I used a scissor-dump trailer for 2 years and it was a very different type of trailer to dump with. I had it actually bounce on me twice, going from tire to tire, back and forth and then finally settling down, very scary but never tipped it over. Wish I had someone like you to give me this kind of advice you just did. Thank you.
You’re welcome. Yea the frameless trailers can be a little tippier for sure. Gotta be a little more careful with them but you never flopped it over so you did good.
My son needs to watch this. He's too "smart" to listen to my warnings about these end-dumps laying over while dumping. The issue most prevalent for us is wind - but wet manure and compost can also freeze in large clumps, or to the trailer sides if left loaded overnight during sub-zero weather. In this part of TX there can be days and days of high winds that hamper dumping. My husband had 30+ yrs experience hauling everything from swinging meat, grain, live cattle to cucumbers, but he never, ever took that end-dump trailer for granted, especially unloading in farm fields where the surface terrain can be impossible to read.
Hi Wes, I enjoy your videos very much, you do a great job, I used to drive myself for 25 years but got hurt and can't drive anymore and it takes me back, I miss driving a truck and it's nice to be sitting behind the wheel with you, keep up the great work and I'll keep on watching

I’m glad you can ride along with me and others on UA-cam. Hearing you say that makes me want to do these videos even more. Thank you for you comment. God bless.

Do some of these trailers have vibrators on them? I'd think that few short bursts could help product slough off? The railroad uses portable pneumatic vibrators for hopper bottom cars.
Good content Wes, safety first, but I've been dumping frameless for 30 years, prefer Western 1/4 frame now days so I can pave, one trick I do, if your box is going up crooked? I steer under till the scope becomes straight, works for me, never lost one yet!
Great advice. I actually wanted to mention in the video about something like this (granted a little different) but I wanted to keep it kind of simple. Sometimes if I’m uneven I’ll turn the truck a little bit at an angle from the trailer. It’s harder to flip the fifth wheel when the trailer is sitting on it on an angle.
I like how he explains as much as he can think of. It's a fee things I wish he expounded on but as a trucker myself I can see how some things are skipped or not explained since it's so much he has to think of to explain. Most old school dump trailers I seen have them exhaust pipe for the under belly of the trailer. That be good for winter time keep the Material not able to stick to the bed of the dump body. Your tips and safety really helps for those that are starting out as dump truck drive for trailer or straight truck dump box. Hello great vid. thanks. How do you put the plastic of lime inside the trailer if needed. I was advised not to use the outside ladder to climb any trailer. Iam familiar with tankers but when loading the usally have a walk over harness. Thanks
When I was running dump all over the country before I went back to hauling wood I used diesel to keep the load from sticking I also carried 4x4 and 2x4 to get the trailer level in real bad spots
@@Wgrippin it works in a pinch for sure anything bigger than 2x6 seems to split in half but the wider boards stay on top better in soft spots i used to go to all the big spots around ny for end dump....did you guys finish the job out by fort drum
Great video! One thing I would add to this is, which I’m sure you do with out thinking, everytime you get out of that truck and walk around, check and look at all your lights, tires and listen for air leaks. A flat tire can change the way that bed goes up and shift it one way or the other. With the auto inflators it might not be so obvious, but it’s a good habit to get into. Thanks for the videos!
That’s actually something I totally forgot. Tire pressure (or a flat) actually does have a huge effect on how the body will go up. Great catch. Thank you!
Have you ever seen the fail safe.? if you're out of level there's an over ride. It has a plumb Bob and if your box goes of center it over rides and brings the box back down.
I’m the same way when I’m runnng an RGN, I appreciate the help but I have a ritual and If I stray I forget something and it’s usually forgetting to unhook air and electrical lines
That’s a hard one. There really isn’t anything set in stone. Everybody likes things a certain way. Typically a heavy spec truck with a little more power than typical and an 18. There probably the important stuff. The rest is kinda up to the buyer tbh.
Mac is by far better for a frameless due to the fact that it has shear pins for when you lay it over ive seen way to many trucks go over with the trailer when pulling a east
@@Wgrippin Mac is where its at down home in KY we used to pull 36x102x96 deep right before they made us cut back to 126,000 ole boy i was driving for had just bought me a 38x102x96 with the 3 down reyco with the lift axle on front and rear and aluminum buds wheels and mud flaps dragging the ground on the ass of it all the way across we normally hauled 70 to 75 ton a trip prolly 65 to 68 ton if it was clean coal
great video. I have a question - it may be in one of your vids, I haven't seen 'em all, yet. Say you have a wet load that hangs or freezes, so that it won't dump even with the trailer up high - what do you do then?
That can be tricky and it does happen. Sometimes you can roll forward (carefully) and then backwards (carefully) and stab your brakes. Sometimes that will let it loose. Gotta be careful doing that. Sometimes I’ll lower the body and raise it again and it’ll break free. Other times if I’m not so lucky I have to shovel or at least shovel enough to try again and see if it will come loose. One time I had to have an excavator reach in and get it loose will it was in the air. That’s an extreme case and not recommended because you can tip or they can put the bucket through the walls or floor.
@@Wgrippinyep i often run an excavator on ash piles and quite often was asked for help. Usually don't want to but if doable i will. Also have had many of their swing doors lose a hinge and i have to load it in their trailer
You are pretty good at explaining and holding a camera one handed. However from a training perspective you could really benefit from a camera person and a drone. Overlay graphics would be great too. Dating a video is a good idea as well. Thank you for the effort you put into this. You need to get sponsor's to make it profitable.
Thank you. I’m working on some of those things as we speak. I can’t bring a camera person with me at work all the time but for the home stuff I’m gonna try that. I think that alone would be a huge benefit.
How do you get into this version of trucking, I’m a owner operator and the truck I purchased was spect for rear dump, I’ve been using it for dry van but I don’t want to use it for what it was built for ?
Like you said everyone does it different and bout the only thing I do different is I don't never set my brakes I dump by holding down the hand brake that way if I need to get out from nunder it quick I can lol
Make sure to hit the air dump and not the fifth wheel slide unlock, I've done that one before because the buttons were right beside each other. I had to change my pants when I pulled up and the fifth wheel slams to the back. Luckily everything stayed upright
First thing I do is make sure it’s level put the pto in and put the lever in the up position and shoot er straight up but I do drive a spring suspension truck and not a fancy air ride unit Lol I tell you what though when it gets real cold and the load freezes on one side of the wagon it’ll sure make the ol butt pinch a hole in the seat sometimes 🤣 You done a hell of a job explaining it for somebody that has no experience with a dump wagon doing good work with the videos and I’m just a little jealous of the KW. Don’t get me wrong I like my ol truck but it doesn’t look anything like that show truck
@@Wgrippin appreciate you making videos again and seriously if I’d never ran an end dump before and had no idea what to do you really explained it very well. My truck and trailer both are spring ride so I don’t really gotta worry about the air bags I’ve got a triaxle MAC dump trailer now with the single leaf Rayco suspension under it and all my controls are in the cab I can raise my front and rear axles leaving the middle axle down and my tailgate just opens on the bottom it’s not the barndoor style I’d still like to drive a big show truck like that mine is definitely just a work truck and a few cowboys drove it before I did and it’s taking me a lot of time to get it lined back out but it’ll get there
@@Wgrippin it swivels pretty easy with it up it makes it real good for when you’re in a tight pit getting it maneuvered around to back under the loader
@@joshsingleton8312 I believe that. I like that idea. If it didn’t make things so heavy I think all 4 of my axles should raise. Down in Manhattan I could leave just the front one down and shorten the trailer right up.
There are so many things to add through so many situations, but this video explains all the basics for them beginners

@@Wgrippin it works in a pinch for sure anything bigger than 2x6 seems to split in half but the wider boards stay on top better in soft spots i used to go to all the big spots around ny for end dump....did you guys finish the job out by fort drum
@@andyarmstrong5378 we did. As far as I know it’s all done. That was a nice one. Long miles out and back. Long days
Great video thank you!!!
Great video, thanks 🙏🏻
Good job 👍
Great information Wes keep it coming 👌
Thanks!
Spring Suspensions are better than bags , and depending on load distance hauls use 28- ft for short heavy materials
Well done man 👍🏻
Thank you. And thanks for watching.
When I dump with my frameless I always keep my tags down while dumping takes up more surface area I think the more axles on the ground the better
Great thank you 🙏
Awesome channel man, great content
Thank you!
Thank you!
Awesome video man thank you
No problem. Glad you liked it.
Curios as to why you used the barn door instead of the “traditional “ dump gate. Thanks
Question. How big of a hydraulic tank is recommended for these dump trailers? Or what is recommended capacity of having?
Great explanation Wes. Thanks. New sub.
Thanks for subscribing. Glad you liked it.
Nice video bro
Have you ever seen the fail safe.? if you're out of level there's an over ride. It has a plumb Bob and if your box goes of center it over rides and brings the box back down.
I think I watched a video about it a while back. I wonder why nobody ever uses them.
@@Wgrippin I thought it waa a good idea. Hell save you thousands of dollars if you flop one
Out of the 5 switches on the trailer what's the 5th one for in the middle for?
I’m the same way when I’m runnng an RGN, I appreciate the help but I have a ritual and If I stray I forget something and it’s usually forgetting to unhook air and electrical lines
Thanks for the tip good video
What is like the perfect tractor spec with a sleeper for end dump? Wheelbase....rears.....etc. thanks
That’s a hard one. There really isn’t anything set in stone. Everybody likes things a certain way. Typically a heavy spec truck with a little more power than typical and an 18. There probably the important stuff. The rest is kinda up to the buyer tbh.
Gotta get it up if you wanna get it off! Lol Nice job. I would love to have a east one day.
Thank you. I’ve pulled a few different brands but I think east is my favorite
How long is your trailer? and how many extra airlines are there?
great video.
@@Wgrippin Thanks Wes, really appreciate you taking the time.
Does, this work of dump truck stop in winters?
No actually can get busier. Salt picks up up here in the north
I've seen TOA ''tip over the axle ' , you called it a frameless trailer fall over sideways ,, the body was almost empty and the wind blew it over
should be required viewing for all new end dump drivers
That’s awesome. That means a lot. Thank you
Minus the getting out with bucket fully up. Very dangerous. I'd have written him up
How do you get into this version of trucking, I’m a owner operator and the truck I purchased was spect for rear dump, I’ve been using it for dry van but I don’t want to use it for what it was built for ?
Correction, I want to use it for what it was spect for
Like you said everyone does it different and bout the only thing I do different is I don't never set my brakes I dump by holding down the hand brake that way if I need to get out from nunder it quick I can lol
Is the place your dumping at on route 29 outside of Saratoga?
Make sure to hit the air dump and not the fifth wheel slide unlock, I've done that one before because the buttons were right beside each other. I had to change my pants when I pulled up and the fifth wheel slams to the back. Luckily everything stayed upright
Love the videos! How do you edit the driving and the fast forward so quickly?
Thank you! I use Final Cut Pro on a MacBook Pro. Some time lapse I use the GoPro time lapse and other stuff I use the speed settings in Final Cut Pro.

Thank you so very much
First thing I do is make sure it’s level put the pto in and put the lever in the up position and shoot er straight up but I do drive a spring suspension truck and not a fancy air ride unit Lol I tell you what though when it gets real cold and the load freezes on one side of the wagon it’ll sure make the ol butt pinch a hole in the seat sometimes 🤣 You done a hell of a job explaining it for somebody that has no experience with a dump wagon doing good work with the videos and I’m just a little jealous of the KW. Don’t get me wrong I like my ol truck but it doesn’t look anything like that show truck
Thanks driver. I appreciate the support and watching the video.
@@Wgrippin appreciate you making videos again and seriously if I’d never ran an end dump before and had no idea what to do you really explained it very well. My truck and trailer both are spring ride so I don’t really gotta worry about the air bags I’ve got a triaxle MAC dump trailer now with the single leaf Rayco suspension under it and all my controls are in the cab I can raise my front and rear axles leaving the middle axle down and my tailgate just opens on the bottom it’s not the barndoor style I’d still like to drive a big show truck like that mine is definitely just a work truck and a few cowboys drove it before I did and it’s taking me a lot of time to get it lined back out but it’ll get there
@@joshsingleton8312 that rear lift axle actually sounds really handy.
