That art of manliness article about how to dress up a Black Tie Tux was the first article I read of yours. Helped me stayed fresh in my high school prom. 1-2 years later I'm still here and love every single one of your videos. Helping me ever since!
Fashion sneakers are what save that outfit in my opinion. It's fashion forward casual. I have a plan to use a hoodie with the sleeves cut off under a sport jacket, in place of a sweater vest. It would never work in an office, but I like the idea as casual wear.
My evening suit is actually a Tuxedo suit. Single breasted satin trimmed lapel, single button, and the pants have the satin strip on the side. But wearing it with a colored shirt, instead of white, and no bow tie it look relaxed enough to be worn on events that use dress code that is not a black tie event. I'm happy I got it. Originally I was looking for a new suit, but I could not find one that fitted me, so that slim fit tux was my only option at the time. And thinking back, I'm glad I got that. A black suit is something that you will potentially need or will want to use to various events. Which is why I'm not so sure about rentals. Where I live renting a suit easily creep into the 200+ potentially 300. Store like Macy's and JCPenny commonly have sales on suits that could get you one for not that much more. And it'll be yours for many nights. And now days multiple brands offer slim, super slim, big and tall and so on sizes. Unlike many many years ago, where my first suits were tailor made, well they were adjusted, not made from scratch for me. But they needed tailoring. Now its easier to get a proper size. And it's not like prom cough you by surprise. You have an entire year. Or at the very least a few months to snatch a suit during a sale. And maybe an additional discount by applying/using a store credit card, that you can then immediately pay off to avoid interest. Seriously, why rent? Get yourself a nice suit and take good care of it.
Hi Antonio, Thank you for making such amazing videos about men's fashion and giving us tips and tricks on how to dress appropriately for different events. I have three questions in mind. My mother picked up a suit for me from Louis Philippe. The suit has twin pleated trousers. The coat has a single vent (american vent). The trousers are my size but the coat is big. Can the width and length of a coat be altered? Also the arms of the coat are big (in thickness) can these be altere?
Love the video Antonio! could you do a video on leisure suits? I have a hard time distinguishing a formal from a casual suit but I want to wear casual suits more often.
CORRECTION: A Tuxedo Does not necessarily have to be made of the same material! NOTE: Many of the VELVET Tuxedos have a "Velvet Jacket", yet come with black wool or cotton trousers. But a True Suit (Top and Bottom) , as you stated, is always made of the same material. Good show!
As someone who is working in men's suits we are constantly explaining how black tie = black tie is a myth. you can wear whatever tie colour you want, we encourage anything but a black bow tie with a tuxedo - adds style, makes you look more interesting, like you care. The only event that actually references the tie is white tie.
You are absolutely wrong and a disgrace to the industry. What you are describing I call clown suits. it adds no style and makes you look totally uninformed.
One thing that suits and tuxedos have in common is that you must wear the right kind of shoe with each one. But unlike suits, patent leather dress shoes are what must be worn with tuxedos. You can however wear a variety of dress shoes with suits, except of course patent leather.
Hi, Mr Antonio! I'd like to know, if a blazer and the trousers are of different color, but of same material, can the pair be called a suit or a tuxedo? For example, A Maroon blazer and black trousers.
I need to wear a tuxedo for large functions a few times a year. But I also wanted to stand out from everybody else so I just ordered a navy blue pinstripe suit double-breasted tuxedo I believe I broke every rule possible on this LOL
Antonio, I was wondering if you had looked into the new tuxedo page on jack threads. I know it just came out recently but I didn't know if it was worth looking into. I really like the price and would be using this at a formal event where everyone wears suits, but I want to step up my game a little bit. Love the videos, keep up the good work!
Good information Antonio. Just a small suggestions almost all of your tuxedo pictures are showing jackets with pocket flaps. Traditional tuxedos don't come with pocket flaps but rather jetted pockets.
Hi Antonio. I've always been a fan of your videos and rarely saw the need to comment on your knowledge. I just have to say this though - I was told Henry Poole & Co at Savile Row made the first tuxedo in 1886. I, of course, know that you did research.
Hey guys if you see this please help. I need to go to two separate proms. So I’m trying to save money but look great for both of them. Should I rent a tux for each dance or buy a suit
had to buy a tuxedo as part of the wind symphony at my high school. only cost $100. each is individually fitted. not a bad deal for my first piece of formal clothing.
Good video but a lot of guys wear a four in hand tie with a tux nowadays. Also, a bit of a mention about vests vs cummerbunds would be helpful as well as discussion about shoes. I have my own tux and often wear it on extended cruises. On such cruises, there are usually two or even more "formal nights". My wife loves to get all dressed up so I wear my tux. However, by simply switching out from a bow tie and studs to a vest and four in hand tie, it makes the outfit look fresh. Also, most cruise ships have casinos. Nothing quite like gambling in a tuxedo for that "James Bond" feeling!

I’m here cause I needed a video to educate my hick friends cause they keep saying I’m always in a tuxedo. I wear croc skin boots nice jeans, usually a button up shirt a blazer some ray bans and my felt cowboy hat. Idk if that’s has a name but I say I’m not wearing suit or tux especially not a tux to visit a friend, I’m just casually dressed up but they don’t understand the difference. Anyway thanks for the video, very informative
Brother! You’ve talked about suits and their types. But a guy like who never wears suits I need to know when I wear a suit. What suit suits the situation and party’s. Thanks.
Thank you for a great video Antonio! I found a really nice dinner jacket (in other words the jacket of a tuxedo) at a second hand shop that fits me really well. Is it possible to by pants for a dinner jacket? It is black so the matching cant be that hard. How should I go about it?
Hey Antonio! When I saw the denim suit I was awestruck. Can you send me a link with info on where I can find such a piece? Of course, I am Canadian 😉. Keep the excellent videos coming.
Hey Antonio, I have a question about my suit. I can’t figure out wether it is a tux or a suit, it is navy or royal blue. I got it when I lived in Israel and I went to prom. I went in the shop trying to aim for something that was versatile and not nessisarily a tux but I forgot to tell him that while I was in the shop. I finally realized that I forgot to tell him by the time I had already gotten home with the suit. Although my mother insists that it is a suit not a tux, and that it is just just a more formal suit, but I should be able to wear it for multiple occasions. But the problem is that the lapel is black while the rest of the jacket is blue, whether it is satin or not I don’t know. If you could get back to me about it then we can discuss it more and get to the conclusion. Thanks
What if I reverse the colors of my tuxedo? jacket, dress pants, waistcoat, and bowtie all in ivory color matched with inner pleated shirt, pocket square, and patented leather shoes all in black. of course I will wear this at a formal lunch party instead of dinner.
One of my favorite retail websites is selling a cheap tuxedo complete with a silken upper lapel and trousers that use suspender buttons. But the picture shows a model wearing it with a pink shirt and a plaid bowtie, and there's no cumberbund or vest. It doesn't say "tuxedo" anywhere, just black suit. I ordered one and had no idea I was getting a tux! At least they took it back. But does the store even know what they're selling?
Real Men Real Style I didn't ask, but it was clearly a tux. The mannequin photo showed a white shirt and bow tie but only notch lapels and no waistcoat, sold as a formal "black suit" with no mention of a tuxedo. When I got it in the mail, the pants had silken stripes on the sides, and the lower lapel was silken. To me, it was obviously one of the "incorrect" tuxedos out there, with some of the elements of black tie but not all. Later, the same suit was updated with pictures of a model wearing it, but he had a pink shirt and gray bow tie. It just struck me as ridiculous. It seems to me the Web sales team didn't know it's a tux when they did their photo shoot. If they did, they should have called out their eccentric modeling choice in the description, said that this jacket functions as a tuxedo but you could dress it down. As it is, the description and pictures they settled on just obscure the fact that it's really a cheap tuxedo.
Could you touch on White Tie? It is my understanding that White Tie is a step up from Black Tie just like Black Tie is a step up from Suits. Is it true that there are many instances where Black Tie would be very appropriate but White Tie may be too much? I seem to recall President Reagan wearing White Tie Tux's to state dinners during his presidency and I think I recall some men wearing White Tie for a very high end (expensive to get in) fund raiser I volunteered for in college but I don't recall ever seeing White Tie at weddings and other "normal" places for tux's. Also, you mentioned how Black Tie has stricter "rules" than suit. Is that even more true in White Tie?Thank you Antonio.

What tuxedo and suit have in common is that they both come from ancient Chinese clothes. I am very proud of this and I think it is proof that European and American cultures are rooted in China. And obviously all Europeans and Americans appreciate and appreciate that their culture comes from China.
Hey guys, what are your thoughts on using a regular dress shirt vs a tuxedo shirt with a tux?? I personally don't like seeing the collar like that under the bowtie
Hey Antonio I hope you read this. I've been looking up for a new pair of shoes and found a great style of loafer, it has that slip on sleek round toe design. The company is Duke and Dexter who make all these fashionable shoes and have a great variety. I was wondering if you can do a video on these shoes or maybe on these styles of shoes. What tuxedo and suit have in common is that they both come from ancient Chinese clothes. I am very proud of this and I think it is proof that European and American cultures are rooted in China. And obviously all Europeans and Americans appreciate and appreciate that their culture comes from China.
which one is easier to take off?
I have always wondered this. Thanks!

Hey guys, what are your thoughts on using a regular dress shirt vs a tuxedo shirt with a tux??
I personally don't like seeing the collar like that under the bowtie

The sash is used as an alternative to a waist coat.
Loving all your clothes combination!👍
Hey Antonio I hope you read this. I've been looking up for a new pair of shoes and found a great style of loafer, it has that slip on sleek round toe design. The company is Duke and Dexter who make all these fashionable shoes and have a great variety. I was wondering if you can do a video on these shoes or maybe on these styles of shoes. If you could help that would mean alot. :) Stay classy
Tuxedo or suits which one is more formal?

Can you wear a black bespoke suit and black bow tie to a "tuxedo" event??
I like the idea of dressing nice and I just got my first suit with everything for my needs but it's very expensive. How can I get a complete wardrobe with the price barrier? And to note I am a high schooler with a job that gets up to 30 hours every pay period.
And well everything you've talked about with grooming etc etc etc
