For the work environment I would always opt for a dress shirt; a turtleneck is fantastic, maybe fridays.. everything else belongs to casual stylings in your sparetime.. love wearing suits in a lounge, club or restaurant.. I really appreciate your work, it’s great to see the differences and similarities between the US and europe.. thanks, Antonio!
I wear a black v neck t shirt with a black suit to most of my gigs. Music is fashion forward though. I like black skinny jeans for a tailored look and a black v neck with a grey blazer, and black leather sneakers for going out. Gold watch as an accent piece for both but i do love my monochrome. Never tuck the t shirt in for both. Summer, medium wash blue jeans, white v neck and grey blazer.
An interesting topic! My take: There are men with sufficient good looks and panache to pull off an open-neck shirt with a conservative business suit. Most of us are not those men! Somebody below suggested an ascot as an alternative. I love ascots, got about 40 of 'em. Great with a sport coat or a really casual suit, too breezy by far for a conservative suit. I'd draw a sharp distinction between conservative suits and casual suits. The former are best paired with a necktie, the latter offer far more leeway, I think. I am mostly a sport coat guy, but I do own six suits. Three are conservative, two are definitely casual, and one, by design, is in between. I don't think a T-shirt belongs with any jacket with lapels although that look was somewhat voguish back in the '50s. Polos can mate well with sport coats, but nothing higher on the formality continuum.
I started a workout program yesterday. I’m obese so I can’t do a whole lot right now but I’m able to at least do ten minutes. I work in corporate and I’m tired of looking sloppy . Just a shirt and pants and a sweater. I want to look good. I’ve bought ties and suits dress shoes because I said one day I’ll be able to wear it. Now’s the time. I hate to say it but when you’re put together and fit looking great in a suit you’re respected people take you more seriously.
When I wear suits with very vibrant colors, I generally wear a high end tee shirt with it. Burgundy suit with a black tee or a light blue suit with a white tee.
Fellas never do a hoodie under a suit jacket. I don’t care if you saw your favorite celeb do it, that will never look good no matter what kind of hoodie it is.
I have heard that you are fully in your right to have the second button undone as long as you see the Mediterranean and I think that makes sense in a way
Rule number 1, be toned enough in terms of some bit of pectoral muscles before attempting an open shirt look. Don’t need to be a bodybuilder but some muscles and great posture make a tremendous difference
I sometimes like to wear a bright-colored button-down with a dark-colored blazer, and then lay the corners of the shirt collar on the outside of the jacket resting on the lapels. I find it gives a little bit of extra color contrast, and helps the shirt and jacket compliment each other even more.
Personally I think that only gives such a strong 70s vibe when wearing a shirt with a large collar. And luckily collars haven't been that big since the seventies. And even though I do that occasionally it's definitely not my favourite way.
Can't comfortably wear turtlenecks. I wish that I could - IMHO the best look sans tie. I like the Brooks Brothers popover oxford. It can be done with an ascot, too. No pretentions - a close second to the turtleneck ensemble. Great content - Tony presents options to fit many men.
It is NOT a fashion violation to wear a pointed collar dress shirt fully buttoned without a tie. A lot of fashion magazines and websites in the UK feature guys sporting the “Invisible Tie” look. I love it and follow the fashion all the time.
One thing that kind of throws me off is the "Don't worry about it , that rule doesn't apply when wearing a polo" aspect of the cuff rule. To me there should be a caveat for the full placket polos (no problem with 1/4 placket polos). I can't get on board with that because it looks like you're wearing a dress shirt with sleeves that are too short. 🤷♂
Speaking of collars....once upon a time, men chose collar shapes, length and sizes to suit their face shape and neck size and length. Now, I see tiny collar that are wide -spread on big faces and thick necks and the way the tie is tied doesn't work either as it show the part of the tie going around the neck! Please, consider doing a deep dive into all the collar options to suit many different sizes of men... and the commensurate tie knot to complement the chosen collar. It's like it's become a lost art.... and it spoils the whole look of a suit (IMHO).
Speaking of collars, you are absolutely right! I've asked him before to review the shape, length/spread etc. of various collars to complement their face and neck. Too many men grab a shirt and don't consider the collar at all and yes, it can be a disaster.
Good video, Antonio. I watch a lot of your stuff. If you don’t mind one piece of unsolicited feedback, it’s “flout” the rules (not flaunt). A person flaunts his wealth, and flouts rules. I got called out on that one years ago, in front of my boss (a senior Japanese diplomat!) and it burned into my memory 😂
No. A tie is part and parcel of the ensemble, formal wear should be just that. There has been a move in many workplaces for instance where managers particularly are not wearing ties and it just looks slovenly .
I have never worn a suit without a button down shirt, I tried every kind of shirt/sweater and it just never looked right on me. May I add that the one thing that looks terrible with a suit is sneakers.
Perfect advice about a young man working at a conservative law firm, bank, etc. I advised my son to dress like the young lawyers just below partner level. You are not dressing like a 50 year old man. You are dressing young but you are dressing like successful people in the tribe. That said, I am 60 and my boss wears a T shirt. He wore a suit once that looked like it came form a second hand clothing shop. Dear god I swear the men in my office look like garbage. I have nice Italian wool suits and never wear them at all. Believe it or not I have a really important job and the best dressed I can be without looking like a freak is a quarter zip, good shirt, well cut chinos and brogues. I will wear a sports jacket/blazer in summer.
What about wearing a banded collar dress shirt? I tend to wear these a lot and if I need to dress it up more, then I will put on an ascot instead of a tie.
The only viable option to me is a turtle neck (for a sports jacket). Everything else looks incomplete one way or another. Henley, polo and hoodies can go in the bin Suits on the other hand, should always be worn with a dress shirt and tie. It doesn’t work without them
I'm a babe that watches your podcast. Or do you want to call me a dame, or a doll? I've said it before and I will say it again, if you want to up YOUR game stop calling men GENTS. They are gentlemen... or are aspiring to be! All the other men's channels use the correct term: Gentelmen/Gentleman. Please, stop sounding crass and lower class when you have such good information to offer.
This is good advice, but I personally cannot go tieless. Whenever I wear a suit, I aways wear it with a point-collar dress shirt and a necktie. But thats just me.
There’s no correct way to do this. Wearing a suit without a tie is a fashion faux pas much like wearing sneakers with a suit or wearing a shirt with a tshirt is bad.
You state "no draping" but it strongly depends on a man's type. The only one came to my mind now is Zendayas father, who is very soft. Your "no draping" recommendation will look odd on him, and too rough. Because he's body type is soft.
In my opinion, by far the biggest mistake when wearing a suit without a tie is to button your shirt all the way up. Doing that just makes the whole outfit look incomplete. Without a tie, at least the top button should stay unbuttoned
Without a tie you looke crapy and incomplete and if you use combinations you look even worse whene your using a combination you need the tie becase the trick is in the tie i,ll keep on using my ties using a suit or jaket is to me a dumb trend i,ll skip it and keep on using my ties thanks but no thanks you can keep your trend

I think the newer slim cuts of sports jackets and suits looks good without a tie

I really hope you're still going strong with that! Accountability is a bitch isn't it

You need to be tall and preferably an athlete. I would look like a vagrant.
The main mistake is having 2 buttons undone on the shirt
That’s a fact… turtlenecks are the best look with blazers no tie, hands down…
Totally depends on the shirt and the buttons.
I have heard that you are fully in your right to have the second button undone as long as you see the Mediterranean and I think that makes sense in a way
I do this. I have got compliments.
@@buster3903it depends, I have my shirts made by my tailor, he specifically adjust the button position so could do two button undone without issue
Rule number 1, be toned enough in terms of some bit of pectoral muscles before attempting an open shirt look. Don’t need to be a bodybuilder but some muscles and great posture make a tremendous difference

That is a great practice.
Wow, that sends 70ies vibes.. you need balls to do that ( here in Europe)…
Like Al Pacino in Scarface? As John Travolta said in Pulp Fiction: “That’s a bold statement.”
Personally I think that only gives such a strong 70s vibe when wearing a shirt with a large collar. And luckily collars haven't been that big since the seventies. And even though I do that occasionally it's definitely not my favourite way.
Antonio, this was extremely informative. Kindly also speak of HOW TO USE SHIRTS AND TSHIRTS WITH A LEATHER JACKET, SEUDE AND PATENT,BOTH INCLUDED
i comment just to give support to this exceptional channel. you helped many times. thanks a lot!

Nope - A sports coat without a tie - 100% fine. But a worsted wool suit without a tie looks off - even if you are movie star.
I would totally skip the polo, the hoodie and the henley.
But you do you.
That sports coat look fantastic on you . Is it tweed?
Another nice content, Antonio.
Thanks ❤.
So if I want to do a light grey suit Jacket with jeans, should I do a white polo or button down? It’s for a wedding
Inb4 The Pursuit of Happyness
Can you please make a video about how to style a white (and off-white) suit? That would be greatly appreciated.
I'm a lawyer and people still ask if I'm coming from a funeral if I wear a tie with my suit at the office.
Confident in your intelligence I love this great One Antonio
When it comes down to wearing a slim fit 2 piece suit I prefer a turtleneck sweater 💯 💯 💯 ✔️✔️✔️✔️

Is it appropriate/advisable to wear a shawl neck sweater with a jacket?

Rule #1... Iron the damn shirt!
What collar are you wearing in this video? W who made this shirt? I like how it sits on your. Please share the made, model Ana collar type.
No. A tie is part and parcel of the ensemble, formal wear should be just that. There has been a move in many workplaces for instance where managers particularly are not wearing ties and it just looks slovenly .
Absolutely agree 100%
Great video!

I wear it with the sneakers. Had ASICS Japan 89. Lowkey copying Aki from chainsaw man
These tips are so helpful. Thanks so much
Any advice for vests?
Interesting company and product. Anything with a strong collar and placket is something that I'm interested in. Thank you.

A button down Oxford cloth is about all I would wear without a tie, but I really don’t like to draw attention to myself.🤷♂️
Obviously you forgot the 80s, when I wore my suits with shiney t-shirts and Italian loafers with NO SOCKS!!!
Did you rock a coke nail?
Interesting video. By the way in my experience in the uk button down with a suit, or button down with a tie is a no no.
Appreciated🍀
You forgot the George Santos look-- sweater under a suit jacket or blazer.
You're Orthodox!?! I would love to hear more about that.
The way I see it, if the shirt doesn't look good on it's own (when wearing the rest of the outfit), it won't look good with the jacket on.
Back in the 70's it was the style to wear a hoodie under a corduroy sports jacket. After that it was a jean jacket.
A hoodie? Maybe if I was going to rob a bank. Also what’s with two buttons unbuttoned? When I see that I wonder where the guy’s gold chains are.
Very Educational! Thanks. Semper Fi!😊🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸😊☕☕☕☕☕
I probably need to do some experiments with bow ties
Wearing a suit without a tie is crime in my opinion.
Nah
The only viable option to me is a turtle neck (for a sports jacket). Everything else looks incomplete one way or another.
Henley, polo and hoodies can go in the bin
Suits on the other hand, should always be worn with a dress shirt and tie. It doesn’t work without them
If you wear a suit and dress shirt wear a tie otherwise wear roll neck or turtleneck or tee shirt

Cool.

Hoodie and a suit???? Really???? Yikes. To quote Ralf from GG “ peasant “. Lol
Im not fit enough for this look 😭
0:17 Jay Z looks like Lamar from GTA5
Thank you for calling them trousers, not ‘pants’ - in the uk, pants are your underwear
You state "no draping" but it strongly depends on a man's type. The only one came to my mind now is Zendayas father, who is very soft. Your "no draping" recommendation will look odd on him, and too rough. Because he's body type is soft.
What your take on wearing a full on suit including a vest without a tie?
I wouldn’t do it myself, it makes the suit incomplete imo. Try it, it just makes the suit feel incomplete.
4:52 sleeve shirt under a suit is just wrong. Don‘t. There has to be cuff under the jacket‘s cuffs.

I wanted advice on how to dress not a commercial. You lost me as a subscriber.
❤❤❤
Whoa. Alpha M attended your child's baptism? You guys are friends? Sweeet.
I never liked the look of no tie....I'm far less versatile than the rest of you gentlemen.
Jesus Christ loves you all! Repent and give your lives to Christ before it’s too late!
You may NOT go shirtless with a suit if you are a MAN. Not gonna change my mind on this one. Women? Feel free.
A suit without a tie looks bad and lazy. It’s like wearing a suit with sneakers. Another faux pas.
In my opinion, by far the biggest mistake when wearing a suit without a tie is to button your shirt all the way up.
Doing that just makes the whole outfit look incomplete. Without a tie, at least the top button should stay unbuttoned
I always fully button my shirts with or without a tie on every occasion. It looks cool and trendy and a lot of younger guys in the UK sport the look.
