Summary. A suit is made of shinier material with less texture compared to a Blazer which makes it tough to pair with casual trousers. Blazers have Double breasted, peak lapels, patch pockets, one colour, contrasting metal buttons. Sports jacket is also called odd jacket because it can be worn with a no matching pants. Pockets are flap or patch pockets. Fabric is rugged and less shiny which makes it easy to combine with trousers.
The difference between a sports jacket and a blazer is that a sports jacket is patterned while a blazer is usually a solid. I say usually because sometimes there is piping on the lapels and/or hip pockets of a blazer. And blazers are often dark blue but not always. Green is a fairly common color.
Its nice to see that sports jackets are actually making some sort of comeback in contemporary fashion. Ive seen a few people about wearing them casually in the town, on the beach etc paired with a tshirt or a button up shirt and chinos
My own personal style is kinda like business casual or smart casual so I love sports jackets as it’s versatility in creating great looking outfits works great for me. I currently have 3 sports jackets and may expand that to 4 or 5 in the future. I only ever wear suits for formal events that call for them like weddings or funerals.
Thanks for watching, Alex. That's great. I agree that sport coats are fantastic for that reason. I hardly wear suits as well so I mostly rely on sport jackets.
I had a dark gray jacket with subtle non-white pinstripes, collars like a suit jacket, two large open/close black buttons, minimal shoulder padding, the lining was a deep red burgundy silk type material... it was my favorite jacket, I outgrew it with age and have wondered about getting a custom one made. What might it be, the top half of a suit, a blazer or sports jacket?
Thanks for watching. Usually (not always) pinstripe jackets are part of a suit. Any other pattern like houndstooth, checks or herringbone can be either from a suit or a sports jacket.
Speaking of Navy - With a slightly textured non shinny fabric - I have a hard time distinguishing between a navy suit jacket, navy sports jacket, and a navy blazer. Especially if all have notch lapels and soft shoulders. Sure - brass buttons would absolutely say traditional blazer , or peak lapels suit jacket, but other wise it seems nit picky. Then we could get in to Spezzato which is deliberately mixing suit jackets with other pants !
So the real difference isn't formality -- it's that Suits _must_ be worn with the matching dress pants, and Sports Jackets are an independent piece from pants. And Blazers are their own specific thing (but also generally not worn with matching pants).
Nice video, sir. Do 3 button blazers still look normal and fashionable these days? Is it possible to remove one of the 3 buttons so it can become a 2 button blazer? Kindly make a video for me specifically on whether 3 button jackets can still be normally worn these days. Someone to update me on this one please and i will appreciate. Much love everyone.
Thank you for watching, Elvis. I think in most cases, unless it's a 3-roll-2 blazer, it would be better to go for a regular 2 button blazer, since it can look a bit too old-fashioned and the short lapel line is not that flattering either.
Small error at 1:02 I meant the most casual option 😅

I wear blazers the most but also suits and sports jackets.
Thanks for watching :)
Blazers are super classy. What colors did you choose?
I just ordered my first one and am excited to try it soon :)
I have navy and grey/brown blazers for now. Safe and versatile colours @@Lukas_Schanderl
Which brands do you normally go for or do you get yours tailored?
Ahh, I see! Sports Jackets! Been wondering what they were called. Always loved that kind of style, but never knew the name of it. 🙏
Thank you :) Glad it was helpful

Great point. In that case, I'd probably just call it a sport coat as well
Thank you for exhibit “A”. That was a great cut-away.

What’s the difference between suite sport blazer? I prefer safari.
Great choice. I wear safariu jackets more frequently than a sportscoat as well.
sport jacket all the way
My go-to choice, as well
