In fact, I sometimes purposefully do a controlled fall just to remind myself it's not bad; it's difficult to improve if you are afraid of making mistakes. Your video is certainly timely for me! I just received replacement wheels & bearings that I ordered 2 months ago to fix a pair of 4-wheel inline skates that were in the closet for over 10 years. Once I got the skates mounted with the new wheels and got out to the outdoor skate park yesterday, I was excited to be doing any type of skating again. Two things, though, that are very different from skating on ice. 1) It's much more muscle work to skate on asphalt, much harder to practice gliding when the glides are only a few feet before friction causes me to stop. 2) Because I would be skating on asphalt and concrete, I bought 88A wheels, the hardest I could buy in the 76mm wheels I needed. The hard wheels transmit every bump and dip of the ground to my body, so my helmet and glasses jiggle on my head, making my vision like a Go camera video clip. This visual element wasn't something I had to worry about on ice!
    Thank you for showing the footwork bits of your practice. I hope that my refurbished skates will allow me to practice crossovers, edge work, and to strengthen my legs. (Just 3 months off skates and my ankles were not happy!) I am not going to try any spins until the ice rinks are open again. I prefer not to get a road tattoo.
    Please keep posting videos! I really appreciate all the lessons you've been posting.
    For future videos, could you please add the wrist guards, elbow pads, & knee pads? Other inline or roller skating teachers all wear protective gear in their in YT videos. It's a good idea to model safer methods. Thank you!

    idk which exact model you have but if you have removable frames (check which model you bought and look it up online to see whether the frames are removable if you forgot or don’t know), then you can replace just the frames instead of buying a whole new skate. you can replace it with 4x80 (so 4 wheels with 80 mm diameter) or even an aggressive frame and soul plate as long as you check that it’s compatible. i think these videos are really interesting and helpful for people looking to expand into different skating disciplines :)

    I just put two smaller worn down wheels on the front and rear of my old rollerblades and they are rockered now! So much easier for turning and artistic moves, and then I mounted a universal brake in the front of the boot, so now I have artistic skates converted over from my old inline rollerblades. So much cheaper than buying a new assembly. Good to see an ice skater give some time to try out wheels, most ice skaters I know won't.

      Non rockered recreational skates are okay for skating forwards and backwards, crossovers etc.... But doing turns on them isn't great....I tried these skates without rockering them at first and I didn't like the lack of manoeuvrability.
      Inline skates like these are great for throwing on to be able to whip around to places quickly.

Unfortunately my local ice rink hs gotten really bad (they only run the zamboni once a day) so I decided to start rollerblading again. I bought those 5 wheel skates that you were saying you tore up and I've felt pretty unsteady on them. Now I understand why. I should have bought these instead. Lol!

      @@IceCoachOnline North Charleston, SC. It's called the Ice Palace. I've complained several times and they don't care. It's the only one in town aside from the holiday outdoor one they decided to open last year and will apparently open again this year which is a puddle most of the time due to our climate. Lol. The Ice Palace used to be so much better but now they only cut the ice at the end of the day right before hockey practice beacuse they only care about the people paying for hockey lessons. I checked my rollerblades again and they have 4 wheels! I was able to remove the brake so I think I can replace some of the wheels and make them rock by having different wheel sizes so I'm going to look into that. I hadn't rollerbladed in a while when I commented last because of the hot summer climate but now it's cooled down.

Looking forward to those twizzles! :) I second the comment about using protection, concrete isn't as forgiving as ice also, with the lumps, bumps and small twigs and stones that can stop a wheel dead (whilst you carry on), I've learned to pad up, especially backwards. BTW: You would feel much more at home with rockered 4x80 or 4x90 simply because each spacing between two wheels is shorter. I guess by now you tried that? Awesome! Can’t wait to see you on four wheels, I’m glad you are enjoying your regular inline skates! What are your thoughts on getting ice blades frames on to the inline slalom boots? I’ve seen there are blades you can use with them from Inline Ice Blades, but I haven’t seen a review. They have both freestyle and figure skating blades. About jumps on inline skates, I’ve managed to do waltz jumps with my four wheel rockered setup (or something that looks like it at least). I want to try learning counter rockers and brackets next.

    • @IceCoachOnline
      @IceCoachOnline  4 роки тому +1

      4 wheels rockered is a lot more comfortable! I have seen the ice brade frames for inline skates, I think I would break them when I skate. I break skates quite quickly, I suspect the harcore Evo skates would last one session on the ice..... The buckles would snap quickly (I'm notorious for snapping metal hooks off my skates). I also think the freestyle boot wouldn't work with my knee action very well on the ice. I like to bend the boot when I do certain moves like choctaw, the carbon fibre seems unwilling to cooperate with that haha.
      Tiago inline skater has a video up of himself skating in the freestyle skating blades with his hardcore Evo skates on..... He has no problem skating on the ice in them doing his slalom moves.
      Yeah you'll be able to do waltz jump and some simpler jumps, but it will be like someone in hockey skates on the ice, you'll reach a point where you need that toe pick to advance.
      I also had no problems doing brackets in counter on 3 wheels or 4 wheels. My preference was 4 wheels though, it was closer to the on ice feeling.

    Very impressive. Once rinks open again, do you think you will continue to skate outdoors on wheels, to mix things up?
    I find it most enjoyable to switch, and enjoy the fresh air and freedom you get outdoors.
    You can do edge jumps on wheels - they are slightly harder as you need to be really over the skate to stop it shooting out from under you, but not impossible by any means.
    You can spin, but two-footed (heel wheel of one foot and toe wheel of the other).
    Can you do a full circle on an edge?
    Looking forward to seeing the slalom.
    I use a 4-wheel rockered frame, with a banana rocker which is the equivalent of 76-80-80-76. The heel and toe wheels get more worn than the others over time, so you probably end up with a similar setup to the 4-wheel one you mention. I've not skated on 3 larger wheels, but people say you get more speed but a tiny bit less control. Probably 3 is better if you want to street skate a bit.

On my 4 wheel trinity frame, they don't rocker, so I have to create the rocker using different wheel sizes, so I use 72,80,80,76.

    I’m an experienced figure skater. I got powerslide skates with 100 mm wheels..do you think these will be too big for my style of skating? I don’t plan on doing any tricks or skills, but I want it to be appropriate for my muscle memory as a former competitive skater. Any advice you have would be awesome!

    Hi Lloyd, may you compare figure skate boots and inline skate boots? Is there something in which inline skate boots are better than figure skate boots or otherwise? I'm a relatively beginner inline skater (about 140 hours in 5 months) and want to learn figure skate moves that doesn't involve jumps. So I wander if Reidell Motion (hardness 70) with some off ice frames would be more appropriate than my current hard shell inline skates (powerslide Zoom).

    I wonder if quad roller skates would give the jump or spin experience that’s closer to figure skating? I’m currently skating on in lines, and MISS my toe pic, but can not afford artistic off ice skates. I’m worried switching to quads would be so much more stable that it would spoil me for the ice again?

    • @IceCoachOnline
      @IceCoachOnline  4 роки тому +3

      I haven't tried quads myself, but from what people have told me the technique used on them to do turns and spins is quite different as they act like two small skateboards you stand on. There is a lot you can do to improve in regular inline skate though, especially if you rocker them with different sized wheels!

    Powerslide HC Evo is very different from normal slalom skates. Higher cuff makes the moves harder and 3 wheels rockered are not as smooth as 4 wheels. the latter is the reason why they go on one wheel in those in all competitions. Please please try 4X76 (4X80) rockered frames - the normal slalom setup.

    • @IceCoachOnline
      @IceCoachOnline  4 роки тому +1

      I enjoyed skating in the HC Evo boot, but I have no other slalom skates to compare it to 🤔 since making this video, I have switch to a 4x80 frame on the HC Evo boot and I can skate even better in them. It's not a rockered frame, but I followed advice from @cityblades and use a wheel setup of 72,80,80,76. This will be the the focus of my next inline skating video.

    • @RoLLerHel
      @RoLLerHel 4 роки тому +1

      Ice Coach Online nice, yes, 4 wheels is smoother and yes, inline boots are very different between each other :) if you want to get the same rocker as on a regular slalom frame, that’d be 76, 80, 80, 76. We have it symmetrical.

      OMG, YOU WILL LOVE QUADS!!!!! I'd recommend Edeas, a Matrix Plate and a soft cushion with some All American Plus wheels. Or you could use any of your old boots and have them mounted. I'm an absolute beginner in figure skating, but I missed the ice an insane amount so I decided to get some inline skates. They're four-wheeled, 80mm wheels with 85A hardness, from Revol. I was wondering what exactly I could do with them, especially stopping wise - is the technique similar/would it help me on ice? Otherwise I'm just working on crossovers, backwards stroking, mohawks etc, would those be doable?

    • @mr.miyagi3784
      @mr.miyagi3784 4 роки тому

      Stop using a T stop, but dragging the foot. If your skates are NOT rockered then you should get 4 sized 76mm wheels and put them on the front and back of each skate so they mimic an ice blade. Then have fun and put down some cones. Watch some slalom inline skating video tutorials on UA-cam and start having fun.

    Part of your problem with the pic skates versus the inline is you have the factory wheels on your pic skates and not a bullet profile wheel like on your inlines.
    Also spinning in our pic skates is different however if you had better wheels it would be easier. Also it takes a lot more leg muscles to pull off spins in pic skates so that does help with your on ice strength.
    That’s our experience anyways.

    You didn't mention HOW you rockered the skates- by just putting a 'less worn' wheel in the middle? I have a couple PowerSlide models - including Trinity frames- and I don't know any options for rockering them? I'm skating 125mm mostly- you should try some of those! ;-)

    • @IceCoachOnline
      @IceCoachOnline  4 роки тому +1

      The frames allows me to set the rocker. So basically it just lowers the middle wheel. I have an older 4 wheel trinity frame too, but this doesn't allow me to rocker... I have to change the wheel sizes to do this. 125mm wheels are huge! I bet you can skate fast in them.....maybe I'll try some for when I got out to cover some distance for exercise

    Hi, I have the exact skates. I love them... But I found the extreme rocker...where only the middle wheel is lowered was a bit too unstable. I really liked the gentle rocker where only the front wheel is raised. You should try it.
    But I do much prefer a 4 wheel set up with a banana rocker. Much more like the blade of an ice skate.

      Old school roller skates are closer to ice skates than inline skates are in that you have a more defined edge. So if you like really deep edges, then old school skates are it. Inline skates can be rockered to mimic the blade feeling of an ice skate, but the "edges" are just figurative because the wheel is round. You'll never get the satisfaction of a deep edge. The fun of inline and roller skates is that you can skate on your toes and heals and it opens up a world of possibilities.
