I currently have my account split in two, I’m a console cmdr on the Xbox where I first fell in love with elite. Currently on my Palin grind, it’s my first time outside of the bubble, like really outside. I’ve been playing for years but mainly a rated and focused on combat and rank grinds and mining for cash. This is my first real time exploring. On pc I’m still refinishing my federal rank grind. I honestly love this game, I wish the console had the pc features, my setup is very cobbled together(using nvidia geofoce linked to my steam, you get a free account when you link your console to your steam. On a terrible laptop and we’ll it ruins the visual experience. But I’m still able to do all of these things so it’s fun. I will say it sucks they discontinued odyssey for the consoles because I actually love this game, I do feel it’s unnecessary to have to grind so hard but it is satisfying when it finally comes together. I get the hate for elite but I have to say frontier is trying to do something, and their support team is pretty helpful given their limited abilities. All and all I will say I love this game even with the Jank, hope they keep it going and fix it up.
The interiors looked better to me, but it might have been lighting. Some of the stations had half a dozen searchlight beams waving around the interior, but I'm not sure if those are already in Horizons. They were much more noticeable though.
i MIGHT get odyssey, though i'm still upset that the game is only an "always online" game meaning if the servers close you're sol. but if i did buy odyssey my first activity would be to return to sol and see where it all started...on Luna...
I can confirm such frustration. Out of some 6 or 7 attempts, I was finally able to complete ONE mission. Kept getting disconnected, with the mission disappearing when I reconnected. Looking forward to when it's more or less fixed, as I love this game.
They already got hangers for rovers & small fighter ships but what they need to do now is add a hanger for a submarine so you could land on some random water based planet & explore, collect data about different plants, biological life & even sunken space ships which also calls for the creation of a elite dangerous version of a scuba suit? That would be cool. Think of subnautica as a exploration activity but it's on elite dangerous.
I visited davs hope and Jameson's crash site both have changed. Davs hope has lost the mountain behind it and the lead up to Jameson's crash site is smoother so it's easier to get in there
Imagine if they allowed players base building like in No Man's Sky and commerce like in Eve Online (not just with NPCs), that would be awesome and would really make the game feel more complete, fulfilling and complex.
Runs overall great on Linux, but planetary performance still needs work. A burning building also completely wrecked my FPS even when I was rendering the game at .65 through supersampling on medium settings. Only had access to a used RX 580 with 4GB unfortunately, but still. For what the game is offering graphically I think it should run a little better. Hopefully they can focus on that more now.
i'm hoping my bad feelings about this expansion are wrong. we'll see soon enough the updated planet tech has me genuinely excited the focus points on space-legs just seem to be things I don't think ED needs, would have been far better served by allowing us to manually repair our ships via EVA, provide a walkabout-cockpit, have some space hulks/ruins/micro-stations/derad-ships to salvage & explore then after those maybe think about some pirate/base/outpost/derelict combat (asteroid/terrestrial/free-floating/NPC-supertankers) with more directed engagements.
A hell of a lot harder than you're giving it credit for. As a VR developer, I can confidently say you'd be bitching a lot more if they released it with half done VR capability (E.G. just "shoving the camera in the player helmet") rather than not really implementing it at all, because it would make you sick for the next few hours with motion sickness. It takes *a lot* of fine tuning to get VR right.
Elite Dangerous was the game that got me started in VR. I can’t imagine playing in in 2D again. I’m not picking it up without VR support. No Man’s Sky managed to pull of VR so Frontier should be able to pull it off.
Same here! I had a whole plan... I was going to leave my computer on so I could remote into it, get it downloaded at least, and try to get out on the moon I'm currently at to get the first footfall on it. Alas, I'm not landed on the planet, I didn't start my remote server, and servers weren't up when I went on lunch anyway. Hopefully no one walks on my moon (and turns in the data) before I get home!

Will be interested to see how well they optimised the performance. Had to stop playing the alpha so most of the content will be fresh for me.
First checking out Sol, as that's where I was before alpha dropped. Trappist-1 will be next destination.
Are space station appearances improved? Higher res? More detail?
Only the areas you can walk in from what I noticed playing. The ships and SRVs do have better textures though.
The interiors looked better to me, but it might have been lighting. Some of the stations had half a dozen searchlight beams waving around the interior, but I'm not sure if those are already in Horizons. They were much more noticeable though.
It doesn't really sell the patch much when it lags out at 25fps for release. Good video explaining it though.
I find the npcs to be bullet sponges. They take a whole mag and a half to kill, and by the time I reload the second mag their shields have recharged.
Great overview, thanks!
i MIGHT get odyssey, though i'm still upset that the game is only an "always online" game meaning if the servers close you're sol. but if i did buy odyssey my first activity would be to return to sol and see where it all started...on Luna...
You can’t land on the moon, which really disappoints me
I would get this if I didn't anticipate huge frustrations with the performance
First, ED's planets need to be able to support surface water, since they don't. Then they can _start_ working on underwater content.
How do you get to use your ship ingame? I have been using the shuttle bus for a while now
Thanks for your content
I visited davs hope and Jameson's crash site both have changed. Davs hope has lost the mountain behind it and the lead up to Jameson's crash site is smoother so it's easier to get in there
I just got odyssey I am so excited to try it out
Does on foot work with VR? If so whats the performance like?
permanent base building would be a nice feature for the future! just imagine people settling down on planets and creating whole civilications on them
The improvements to planets: does this carry over to Horizons and the base version (if I have, but don't want to play, Odyssey in its current state)?
It was supposed to, but this will now happen when the console versions launch near the end of the year.
I have always edited HUD colors through graphics configuration.xml but I am unable to get it to work for Odyssey. Did they change something?
Been really into just standing next to my ships to see that scale. Cutter making me act up.
Curious about the framerate. How is it? sometimes it seems bad but can't tell if thats the video or if its wrecking Ants pc :P
Imagine if they allowed players base building like in No Man's Sky and commerce like in Eve Online (not just with NPCs), that would be awesome and would really make the game feel more complete, fulfilling and complex.
PC only right? Can't imagine console getting this
What's up with the blinking ground @ 5:30
Alpha release texturing issues. It was confirmed in a livestream.
5:20 ... The game has Rectal fungus ... I'm going to play this game right now!
Looking forward to this expansion so much. Specially considering I just download your hcs voice profile. Lol
Fdev- please implement full motion controller VR support for on foot. It is a must!!
2 yeas of development boils down to 10 minutes... Thanks for the very quick overview.
Will you be doing a video on Odyssey and VR, when the flat screen kicks in etc?
Does it even support VR?
watching a space race on foot would be nice
so do you carry anything about your saved horizon character/ships over to Odyssey?
Yes, all of it.
yup, all existing ED progress will be available in Odyssey
Yes everything.
Been awhile, don't have PC and not paying elite on Xbox anymore but this is so huge.
@ObsidianAnt can you please tell me what music is playing starting from the Old Engineers mark? Thanks :D
Combat AI still needs buffed... and not just adding health/damage
Yea nobody likes a bullet sponge. 😠
I saw the first minute and I was like "Bruh, when is the Oxytorch cutter gonna work properly in Star Citizen"
odyssey is so fun i need to wait at 1 am tomorrow for it to release at my place
i'm hoping my bad feelings about this expansion are wrong.
we'll see soon enough
the updated planet tech has me genuinely excited
the focus points on space-legs just seem to be things I don't think ED needs, would have been far better served by allowing us to manually repair our ships via EVA, provide a walkabout-cockpit, have some space hulks/ruins/micro-stations/derad-ships to salvage & explore then after those maybe think about some pirate/base/outpost/derelict combat (asteroid/terrestrial/free-floating/NPC-supertankers) with more directed engagements.
When they change the 2D Screen for VR i'll pick it up..... how hard can it be to shove the camera inside the players helmet ?!?
A hell of a lot harder than you're giving it credit for. As a VR developer, I can confidently say you'd be bitching a lot more if they released it with half done VR capability (E.G. just "shoving the camera in the player helmet") rather than not really implementing it at all, because it would make you sick for the next few hours with motion sickness. It takes *a lot* of fine tuning to get VR right.
@@ossiehalvorson7702 I've been bouncing SRV's about in VR for a long time, i think i'll be alright with 'walking' thanks :)
Elite Dangerous was the game that got me started in VR. I can’t imagine playing in in 2D again. I’m not picking it up without VR support. No Man’s Sky managed to pull of VR so Frontier should be able to pull it off.
I’m interested in checking out the alien sites aswell as the bases out in the formidine rift and the conflux
Please excuse the frame drops it's un optimized at the momenttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt.
I'll try it, once a stable version's released.
Hang on. Are you using music from Spiritfarer?
just waiting impatiently for the servers to come up. But then again, I'm at work, so I can't play it even if they were up...
Ditto I’m on vacation.
Hopefully no one walks on my moon (and turns in the data) before I get home!
any controller recommendations that will work in space as well as the new first person
So its a whole seperate game then? I was hoping it would be an update to the existing game...
