I have over 900 hours in this game and I never knew I could set my guns to auto fire!! that alone make me very grateful for you and this community that just wants to help others enjoy themselves.
@space man I had that cool moment where the Thargoid pulled me out of supercruise and looked my ship over and then vanished. I wished I didnt already know about it because that would have been twice as epic!
@@bikemessenger7 I remember when that was first reported. The guy was streaming and filmed it happening. He just about flipped a lid. We all head about it and headed down to the Pleiades to see if we could have our own encounter of the 4th kind. 07 commander
That Fire at Will weapon mode messed me when I recently got back into the game. I was stressing out thinking my hotas software was screwed up big time because my weapons wouldn't fire when I pulled the trigger.😅
A few changes to the build in the description to not die so easy: 1) Dont run A rated shields - use 8C bi-weaves with thermal/fast charge 2) No beam lasers - all pulse lasers, all with long range. All with flow control except one on top and one on bottom with emissive munitions. This way you can keep your pips at 4-0-2. 3) 2 point defense on bottom with high capacity, no reason for having one on top since the limpets will need to go to the bottom of the ship to hatch break you and if you run out of ammo on the bottom one the top one wont help much 4) 4 shield boosters with heavy duty/super capacitor and 2 shield boosters with resistance augmented/force block With this setup your shields recharge as fast as they can inflict damage, and if they do fall they recharge in less than 2 mins Also, your lasers can shoot pretty much indefinitely and you have no heat issues if using 8A power plant with armored/thermal spread, and the 2 lasers with emissive munitions will help you not lose lock on enemies running cold. Make sure you engineer the distributor all the way to grade 5 charge enhaced/super conduits its very important for shield recharge and for laser stability
This sounds like a well reasoned refinement. Can you post a coriolis build? I've been coming back to a rebuy after 2-3 hrs using the full engineered build; 2nd time was with 8a prismatics, probably a mistake. Didn't have any problems twice before (+8hrs afk) using partial engineering with only first 4 engineers and no prismatic. Makes me wonder if I shouldn't have bothered unlocking the rest to complete the build.
No, you don't want to run by weave because then your Shields are going to go down and recharge.. you're not in a dog fight, you're looking for sustained long-term shield strength, you need to run the biggest one you possibly can with reinforced high cap.
@@sequoia1171 Reinforce the weaker Bi-weave with Guardian Shield Boosters and remove all of your hull and module reinforcements. If your shield goes down you're going to die anyway. This way you'll still have the strength of an 8A Shield Generator with the regeneration rate of the Bi-Weave.
@@Flyingboots1 yeah I don't have any guardian stuff yet, and I have enough engineered shield boosters and an engineered shield generator as well as module and hull reinforcements everywhere, nothing has even so much as scratched me yet. And even if by some miracle someone does get me rebuy screen for this build is only like 16 million so no real harm done
Imagine being the pirate who just got owned and you notice the passed out commander as you drift by their canopy in your totaled yet barely survivable ship.
I noticed something about the difference between cargo that you carry, which attracts the pirates. I find this whole process goes a lot faster when you're holding something really valuable, even if it's just 1 ton of it. I've been buying gold, and it seems to work a lot better than other times when I carried silver. EDIT: It seems that having more than one type of cargo works even better. Right now I have gold and silver in my inventory, and I'm pretty sure I'm getting more attention from the pirates than usual.
I agree A J B, I hold on to some Palladium and Gold(just one ton of each) in general as I fly around and pick up a lot of Idio... ahem! Pirates as well.
Be aware that some missions note that hostile ships may be sent after you. These ships are typically bigger ships and you may find yourself surrounded. This is why some people are dying. You need to check your coms to see what missions sent ships against you and discard those missions. You will take a small hit to rep but will make it up on others.
@@michellelovatt3499 same thing was happening to me. I’d be in the REZ minding my own business doing my killin’, and ships like the type 10 or Krait mk2 or FDL would pop in as if dropping on my wake, and just open up on me.... it didn’t make sense. So I checked my missions and sure enough on a couple missions I was given a message saying ships were send after me. Note that even though you may discard those missions, whoever was sent after you in system will still pop in on you so best to fly hands on for the first wave, then afk once the coast is clear. O7
Well I went to sleep for 7 hours. I am alive in a non engineered T10. My SLF is alive and all of my stacks are complete.. Second attempt nonengineered. After 6 hours I came back with 31% hull but alive. I went and engineered it today for tonight. I have also heard suggestions to use a black box which cant be stolen by pirates. I didn't test that but if it works win. You can have more boosters and no point defense.
Can you please post an update on the requirement of engineering on this? As it will be a make or break for me as I am nowhere near maxing these out yet
Please let us know if the build works also when afk for a long time and with a blackbox. Got a t10 (ship name: B.R.B. Need Coffee ) already in my dock yust needed to know which wapons to use. So thank you for letting us know about this.
Thank you for great vid and tutorial! After 3 days of testing, both "background", assisted AFK and overnight AFK I have the following observations: 1. Assisted AFK: works great for both Reg RES and Low RES - IF you can quickly switch back to the game from whatever you're doing to intervene if the fighter gets destroyed or shields are blasted to null. 3. Unassisted, full AFK: Regular RES is way too difficult for unengineered ship. Low RES - eventually you'll get a wing or a smarter, better NPC and they will get you. Even a lightly engineered gets destroyed after a while. I think engineering turrets and shields to at least G3 is a must, preferably the boosters too. Main issue seems to be what Ivo Suarez observed: ship remaining stationary. What happens is pirates position themselves at places badly covered by turrets and just sit there and keep shooting. Two of those and while your fighter chases another one and you're gone. I tried to remedy it by turning FA off and putting the ship in a slow 3-axis rotation. Works great until someone bumps into you knocking you off your position until you slowly drift out of the RES area. Solution: FA on and a piece of string tied to the joystick pulling it slightly along X and Y axes and putting the ship in a slow rotation. Ship stays in place but you are covered from all angles and the hostiles have to maneuver around you.
If you are on PC, instead of a string you can tilt your joystick to the desired rotation, alt-tab away during it, stop touching the joystick, and alt-tab back into the game. This will trick the game into keeping the previous joystick input while being in an idle state, effectively allowing you to rotate your ship automatically without touching anything! There also could be a chance console versions have the same mechanic, just with slightly different steps (tilting the controller's joystick while it powers on, etc)
@@HighwayUK The problem with that method is that as soon as you receive a hit from anything, your ship will now have a force applied to it, and will start drifting away or turn differently.
And this pretty much clears up everything from our earlier comments on the previous video. The fact that you were active in that conversation and did such a good job on this video, in such a short time speaks volumes about you sir. That's the way it's done. You earned my sub. Keep up the good work Commander. o7
Some quick tips after trying this: Build: I’ve been doing this with 8c bi weave shields, b rated power plant and have been surviving fine, this also drastically reduces cost ebuy cost (my ship is also not engineered). Key for point defense is 1 on top of the ship, one underneath ship. Location: picking up missions in ngalinn and going to the low res in manini (planet 5) is a good place to knock it out. NOTE: the station in ngalinn is s/m landing pads only so you need to park at a carrier near by with your type 10 and switch to a s/m ship. I flew my dbx out there and did a ship transfer of my type 10 while I board flipped. Took me 3 board flips at station to get 4 factions to give me 20 missions at 15 mil+ (so pirates are giving me credit for 4 missions at a time, meaning I need about 200 pirate kills to complete all missions, at about 10 kills every 20 minutes this shakes out to 6 hours to complete 350 mil of missions) o7 =]
Just came back after 9 hours, 66% hull. i did change it up after 2 hours cause i heard my SLF die, so i put the pilot in control of my type 10 and flew my SLF to hide under an asteroid with some of the systems turned off to avoid contact and put 4 pips in shield (in the SLF).
I understand the whole point of this is to be afk, but you can make $350 million in robigo in about 3 hours. I'm on Xbox anyway, I have a feeling this may not work for me
Some suggestion: use some emissive munitions on some pulse turret, as it helps the turrets to follow the target. I use 8C biweave with fast charge and thermal resistence, as it recharge your shields in one minute.
Thank you, I'm fairly new but common sense told me the bi weaves were a far better choice for this but as no one mentioned it I was convinced I had missed something important - some people were even talking about prismatics which seems a terrible choice
@@Welsh_Veteran_420_Z as a new player you want to use bi-weaves until you can engineer others... otherwise you'll lose shields and die before they ever come back. Prismatics might be feasible if engineered... since a Cutter has an insane amount of shield hitpoints and with engineering you can have it nearly negate energy weapons... Not sure on T10 since I didn't care for how slow it was.
@@Welsh_Veteran_420_Z Yeah Bi Weaves are better for this since you are not dogfighting, so you'd want as much shield regen as you can to recover between waves. Prismatics just give you a way bigger buffer to begin with, but the pirates have a better chance of eventually whittling them down. I don't understand why people are suggesting prismatics for AFK farm....
I had my doubts about the efficacy of the T10 on its own but my girlfriend tried this build and she made it through the night. Can't say the same about her fighter but life goes on.
Just adding a note to this, long range is key to your effectiveness and survivability. Without it, npcs will hang out at somewhere between 3000 and 3500, and launch infinite limpets to sap your cargo. Long range also gets rid weapon damage falloff, which significantly depletes your dps against ships engaging your slf, or you from greater than 500m
And if I may add to that as well, even low level "long range" modifications give you a massive boost to effective range before damage falloff (G1 gets you from 0.5km all the way to 3.6km!). I didn't want to spend a fortune in engineering materials to get them all to G5, so I just got them to G3 for the experimental effects.
Long range is the single most effective mod for lasers in my honest opinion, purely due to buffing your minimum falloff from 500m to basically whatever your weapon's current max is. Basically your lasers don't have any fall off damage reduction anymore - which is awesome!
I've been doing this for a couple of days now. Works great so far. Went with the recommended build, which is also a fun build to play with without AFK (I have been doing some find pirate missions besides the AFK missions, works also fine). I've also 'earned' almost all my ship costs back, just once I needed to do a rebuy, but that was even without AFK-ing. However: I've set it up last night, and I had a disconnect 'code sidewinder', and again this morning. I did make some changes to my graphics settings, so I don't know if that has got something to do with it, but it could also be nerved already? Anyway, it was a fun project, earned some new rankings with some factions, and I started playing Elite again - I'm addicted again, let's go for the 5.000.000.000 to buy me a fleet carrier, I'm at my first billion... Thanks for your excellent tutorial!
@@goodss2730 I earned back by buy costs of the Type-10 in two, three days... Since then I stopped AFK-ing. I'll give it a try to see if I'm patient enough to get a full billion.
Well cmdrs, I've been afk-ing for a few hours now and have some observations and some issues as well. I'm doing this in Mainani, picking up missions in Ngalinn at Hickam Survey (If you've done empire rank grinding between these 2 systems you should have enough status with most factions to make all the massacre missions available to you. I'm using a mostly engineered Type-10 with no fighter, sitting about 2.5km above the low Res. Cargo in hold, turrets set to fire at will, crimes reported turned off. 1. In my first attempts I was getting zero enemy NPCs. The few that would eventually appear would inevitably get shot down by system security. However, after re-launching the game a few hours later and entering the same res, the enemy NPCs are back to healthy numbers. 2. Sometimes I get an NPC that will only sit there and shoot cargo limpets at me without my turrets engaging. I don't know if they ever run out of limpets. Maybe this is where a ship launched fighter comes into play? Also, I'd read other comments suggesting that disabling your cargo hatch and/or leaving it open would stop the limpets from taking cargo. In my experience, neither of these have worked. 3. When attacked by several NPCs at once, the turrets sometimes get confused, switching frequently between targets without actually firing. I'm wondering if this is the cause of some cmdrs getting blown up. UPDATE: Got blown up overnight. If I had to guess, it was the turret issue mentioned earlier. Bug? UPDATE 2: It looks like the turret issue can be remedied by constantly rotating. I set flight assist to toggle and initiated a slow pitch upwards. Think of the ship doing very gradual backflips/frontflips as opposed to rolling. This helps cover the rear of the ship. I managed to fend off 5-6 NPCs simultaneously without the turrets glitching out and without going below ~70% shields, and I'm running Bi-weaves (G5). NPCs that only fire cargo limpets are still an issue as the turrets won't engage them, but they do seem to run out of them eventually. G1 ammo capacity point defense might be necessary for long afk sessions, but at worst, you'd run out of cargo but still be alive. Hope all this info helps some of you! Fly dangerously, cmdrs. 07
In my 2 h test i have the same issues at some point they fire limpets and the point defence run out of ammo and i lost my cargo! The fighter stand still and and dont interact with someone that shoot only limpeds at you and yes he is hostile to me at this point. I think you got destroyd because you run out of fuel. thx for your post and i think is a semi afk thing , at some point you must do somthing!
@@cmdrsanastro8397 the reason that’s happening is because your slf must be ordered to “fire at will”. Only then will it attack a limpet firing enemy. And once your slf tags the ship your own ships turrets will open up on it. 07
@@cmdrsanastro8397 each point defense has 10,000 ammo - how do you run out? .. are your point defenses on the bottom of your ship? .. they need to be on the bottom .. A hatch-breaker limpet attacks the cargo hatch which is always on the bottom of your ship .. I have been testing this whilst at the keyboard - but not doing anything to see if the ship can handle itself (as if it were AFK) .. it seldom takes more than 8 ammo to defeat a hatch-breaker attack .. with 3 point defenses and 30k ammo - they can throw 3,750 limpets at me before they have a chance of getting my loot. Point defenses on the top of your ship will not do anything in this build since the Pirates will not be shooting missiles in a low res site.
@@jasonboughen9542 Thanks. I've been trying this with no fighter to see if it's feasible. I engineered both my point defense turrets so they're now at 15,000 ammo each, so hopefully it's enough to last a while.
You have to take a "dispatch" mission first. 4t cargo is enough. The trick is that pirates do not break hatch when cargo storage contains commodities from a mission. So, one or two more shield boosters. Bi-weave shield is required for AFK.
You missed a very important point. Massacre missions only spawn within 10LY of the target system. Which makes it super misleading that you hover over a system 13LY away when you explain it.
That´s usefull to know . I wasnt aware of that. Often wondered why various systems I was in didnt have them. It also means you dont need a fule scoop or Longe range fsd . This meand that you can build it as reinforced . Also worth doing reinforced thrusters as well as armoured power module . Big ships arent fast anyway so why try to make them faster?
Welp, in the last few days I've gone from 1.8B to 4.5B. Will likely hit 5B tonight. A few observations: 1. An engineered Krait Mk II is more than capable of handling low res. I'm guessing a Fed Gunship will do fine also. At first I got worried dropping shield strength from 1k to ~300 but I've only seen it drop to 90%ish and recharge rate is roughly the same so it really doesn't matter. Solves the high rebuy cost problem of a Type-10. It also allows empire grinding at ngalinn/mainani where there are only medium pad stations. 2. When a pirate stays out of 3km radius, they keep launching hatch breakers without attacking. This doesn't trigger my turrets to fire back. Not a problem in itself but what can happen is that a bunch of pirates do this at the same time and I end up losing cargo because the PD can't keep up. 3. When there are many pirates nearby, my turrets shoot all of them, aggroing too many and causing death. 4. My guy in the SLF often gets himself killed 5. If I put myself in an slf and power down everything that can be powered down (everything except cockpit, power plant, composition scanner), pirates won't touch me even if my ship is parked right next to me. So I set the turrets to "target only" and set my NPC to aggressive. This solves problems 2, 3 and 4 all in one shot. It also means that I can significantly up my fire power by installing gimballed weapons.
@@lamontwhite2414 Anaconda should do just fine. With an even bigger power distributor than the type-10 it will have no problem keeping up with damage spikes. With resistance engineered shield boosters you should be pretty much bulletproof
Ok so I tried that, and I don't recommend using a cutter, it turns slowly so less time on target, and when it boosts, it goes 4km away from the fight Next day it was on rebuy screen
Been playing the game for 5 years now but had to look up what AFK means. I have built a few turreted Type 10’s in the past that pretty much did all the killing for me but never thought about going AFK and let it do it’s thing while I’m asleep. Going give this a try again for grins and giggles.
Alright, I've spent the last week min-maxing this build and I believe I've come up with the absolute best shield setup. 1. Get rid of all Hull, Module, and Shield Cell Banks and replace them with the biggest Guardian Shield Reinforcements that you can. 2. You can get rid of the Docking Computer and Supercruise Assist if you want for extra Guardian Shield Reinforcements, I didn't because I'm lazy lmao! 3. You only need an 8T Cargo Rack no need for a bigger one, save the bigger slots for better Guardian Shield Reinforcements. 4. Keep the 6C Fighter Hanger no sense in downgrading since Guardian Shield Reinforcements only go up to grade 5. 5. Use a 8C Bi-Weave Shield generator Engineered for Thermal Resist and Fast Charge. 6. Use 7 Shield Boosters, 5 Engineered with Resistance Augmented and Super Capacitors and 2 with Heavy Duty and Super Capacitors. 7. Place one Point Defense on the bottom left front of the ship. 8. Have all 9 Pulse Lasers Engineered for Long Range and Oversized but have 2 of the medium Pulse Lasers have Emissive Munitions instead of Oversized and make sure you have one on top of the ship and another on the bottom for maximum coverage. 9. Power Plant must be Overcharged with Thermal Spread. 10. Power Distributor needs to be Charge Enhanced with Super Conduits. 11. @@sillyrunner1 I'm extremely confident in this building I've tested it several days it can do low extraction sites no problem it can do hazardous extraction sites as long as you're there to babysit it and low conflict zones. Another awesome video by Hawkes. Thank you my good sir. I now work anywhere from 10-14 hours a day depending, and basically had to quit elite due to my work schedule. With this, at least I can have some small smidgen of space cheddars waiting for me when I can scrounge up half of one weekend to play Elite. I haven't been quite as successful, as I've made like 20m after an AFK session of 8 hours, rather than billions (and my un-engineered T-10 has died twice, but don't have time to work on engineering grind) but this is still any tiny degree of cash I'd have versus cash I don't. So thank you, Hawkes. Thank you once again for continuing to be my favorite space game channel.

For anyone else just open the system map and plot a course there the res sites will show. All 4 types are avail. Sometimes I afk with the T10 in low or others I'll farm that Haz res with the corvette.
Only one mission giver system? You need to find a system of pirates where there are at least three different systems within 10 light years that are all gunning for those pirates then go around and collect all of those missions and build up your rep.. you're wasting your time by only having one mission giving system. Go check out Ed tools and look at their massacre tool, I think you'll have a lot more success. @@sequoia1171 there's two systems that give missions for 1097... I've been doing this for the past 4 days afk. It's a slow start, but once rep is built up, u can get max stacks. Thank you man, great work ! I followed your build, with some minor differences - I use a Prismatic CL8 with fast recharge, and I went fully mad on modules for survivability - all my internals are armored/shielded, starting with PP, Engines, Life Support, etc - since I realized the main idea of this build is not the speed or jump range, but yes to survive and tank ad infinitum. I exchanged from start the beams for a mix of pulse and burst, sure all LR, and I added on 3 of them, not just one, the emissive effect. I use my own fighter since I pay her only 10% at Elite rank ( schooled her from Novice long time ago ! ) ; So far I just watched, without intervention - the monster can hold 2 wings at once, and in the worst moment I lost just one ring from shields, and so far, in 1 h I got 24 kills, 21 of them for missions. The fighter is at full HP, also. I let here in a low yaw, some 5-10 ª / sec , in order to allow all turrets to fire.I stay with 4 on weap and 2 on sys, the Prismatic slow recharge have also the benefit of low power ....
(Edited comment) so I had issues with the point defense systems. But there is a way around it. Pick up 1 transport mission like meds. Because it's a quest item they can't get to it unless they blow me up.
Been doing this for about a week. Wasn't even engineered until last night. It's almost stupid how effective this is. I can make way more money by NOT playing than I ever realistically could actually playing. Perfect embodiment of Elite.

And if for some reason somebody would say to get carrier then my oppinion is that they do not need it i understand that there are reasons to get carrier but right now a lot of players own carrier pretty much just because they can and that is retarded mindset why to get something you do NOT need. Getting everything in elite is kinda easy people need to put some time into it but in about an week or two you can get pretty much everything you want in this game and as i said before if somebody just does not have a time for that than just do not play this game. I know few people which are resetting their account like every month and are playing again and i know from their experience that people can get things really fast. This video is encouraging potencionally bannable thing and sorry to say that but very toxic game mindset in my oppinion. Is elite grindy YES but do you need to grind a lot for things ehhh not really maybe just for the rank to get corvette and cutter. Grinding in elite is like grinding copper block but for example in case of GTA V online or Warframe it is like grinding tungsten block and sometimes you just need to wait a day until your grinder will cool down in case of warframe but main problem of grinding in elite is that it is much more boring than in case of this other games.

I think a shield tank is better than the build posted. Change out the armor to military composite, downgrade the thrusters to D to offset that cost if you want. Then replace all of the module and hull reinforcements with guardian shield reinforcement. For better recharge time, make all of the boosters resistance augmented instead of having some heavy duty.
So setting the weapons to fire at will takes care of the ship and sticking your pilot in the fighter boosts the protection all around. That sure beats getting slaughtered by pirates. Thank you for sharing this method, now I can get rid of my Mostly Harmless description of my combat abilities.
Worked great for me. lightly engineered T10 (Although I wonder if the cutter wouldn't do better.. might try that tonight) The Key factors: Have VALUABLE cargo (I use 16xgold and lose about 5 per 8 hours of AFK) Have at least THREE point defense turrets Have a good shield (8A) strongly recommend engineered or biweave Turreted Beam lasers need VENTING experimental or they will overheat your ship on chaffers Turreted Pulse lasers need FLOW CONTROL experimental or they will overheat your ship on chaffers A good power distributor 7A Weapon-Focused with Super conduits on mine (borrowed it from my miner) A decent pilot (expert or better) on ATTACK AT WILL SET YOUR TURRETS TO FIRE AT WILL (If you want to instigate a fight just target a wanted ship, set your fighter to "focus on target" and the turrets will do the rest) Turn off "report crimes against me"... there are enough OP cops at LOW-RES sites as it is Make sure your weapons are OUT and your fighter is deployed before you go AFK! Lastly: Make sure you're at at LOW-RES site and have lots of missions for pirates in that area. Sure, the pirates are low-level and don't give much in the way of bounties, but that's not why you are there. It's for the missions.
Okay ive been testing this. Non engineered T10. First I recommend going to the systems hawk points out in the video. Finding your first massacre missions can take a while. Fortunately once you turn in your first missions it gets much easier. Okay first I would not leave a non engineered T10 alone for long. Best to check up on it periodically while you do stuff around the house or watching something. This works great if you actually fly the ship and target ships. You will encounter lag at some point. I believe this is because of all the wreckage adding up over time. Just warp out and back in. I do not have enough engineers to offer an assessment for an engineered T10.
I tried this three times. The first two times I did it without engineering. The second time I almost died. I came back with 31% hull and no SLF. You are right about the lag. Logging out to menu then back in clears it up for me. I usually just dump my cargo then go cash in the missions and bounties. On the 3rd run I did go engineered. All of my weapons are long range 4 although long range 1 or 2 would probably be fine. The beams have thermal vent and the lasers have thermal shock. All of my shield boosters are Heavy duty g5 with supercapacitors. I didn't go thermal like in the build for shields. I went with reinforced g5 high cap. The distributor is charge enhanced with super conduits. I can say it was worth engineering it for sure. I came back 100% shields and hull. When I watched for a while the long range lasers and beams are super space cheese. Nobody escapes lol!
@@HawkesGaming Oh I should add that I use a Krait Phantom to pick up the missions. With its smaller size I can land at more stations for a better chance at getting more missions. Not to mention it can land and take off much faster as well. Just leave the T10 in the system you're using it in.
@@hungryowl1559 Yeah, I've been using the Phantom around Nanabozho to pick up massacre missions. I've gotten some factions to Ally but all the factions don't seem to give combat mission/massacre missions. Maybe they need ally too, but I haven't seen any yet. Also, as far as I can tell, you can only get massacre missions for Nanabozho in Ay Indi, Chop Kamui, and Arare (only stations less than 10Ly away.) There aren't enough stations with enough factions giving out massacre missions to get 20 massacre missions from single factions each. Maybe I just need to grind more to get everyone to ally before it'll be viable for making money. Right now, not making more than 30 mil. I've allied the factions that have given out massacre missions but they 1/3 drop Nanabozho quests and even after waiting 30 minutes at each station for as many board flips, still slim pickings. Tough 600 Mil investment. Hoping it pays out eventually.
@@sirus804 normally ill just do one round toneach station in those systems you mentioned. Ground and small stations included. Most ive gotten is 12 missions. If you actually fly the ship and choose targets its quite effective even in regular res sites. So yeah i dont afk with it. I'm very surprised how well it performs.
This saved elite for me. I love the game, dont get me wrong. I just hate the grind. I paint as well, I don't like buying paints and brushes and materials. I like painting. This lets me paint in Elite as much as I like. Thank you.
Been doing this for about an hour in a Cutter with no problems. Full long range Burst Lasers G3 Long Range, otherwise only partly engineered. Probably not as efficient as the T10 but still viable. Going to do a longer, monitored test tomorrow while I do an assignment then maybe leave her out for the night to see how she does.
Okay done several sessions of this now, mostly monitored while studying, once afk while sleeping. The cutter works perfectly fine, 100% shields and hull when I returned. I tried it at High Res and it needed constant monitoring, medium Res worked but I wouldn't leave it there myself. Low Res was perfectly safe. The ship is not fully engineered but here is my build, with plenty of room for improvement. I use burst lasers because they have lower distro drawn and higher armour piercing than pulse. Pips are 3/0/3, SLF is ranked Deadly: edsy.org/#/L=F_BabacS0H4C0S00,E_eG48W_W0E_eG48W_W0E_eG48W_W0EzEG48m_W0EzEG48m_W0EzEG48m_W0EzEG48m_W0,DBwG44rm20DBwG44b_W0DBwG44b_W0DBwG44b_W0DBwG48r_W0CzY04DBwG48r_W0DBwG48r_W0,9p3H44m_W0ADIH47K_W0ASwG45I_W0Ag_04Ax404BAEG43L_W0BPsG430xJ0Bcg14,16y1416y14,7XQG474_W055U041tO045WC040AA14mpU6D21422U140nG14,Le_0Richelieu,RICHE
For Imperials: I've been getting missions from Bragur. The factions here give missions for Gende and Amitrite, both of which have LowRes sites. They're also controlled by ALD so if you're rank 2 or above with her you'll get 20% bonus to your bounties. Avoid missions to Siriaba which only has HazRez and HighRez sites, and Nysa where the LowRes site is over 400kls away.
This is so cool. I would suggest, doing a direct, unedited timelapse of farming for a few hours. And a T10 build used for this would be cool specially, considering this is not enginneered. Anyways thanks for sharing.
I can verify that large ships will show up randomly, regardless if you have wing missions or not. I was lucky to be at the keys when a 4 pack with two large ships showed up and attacked. Stay safe out there, commanders.
you forgot one very important point: Deploy Hardpoints. I manged to forget to deploy them twice. Luckily i survived both times due to my Elite SLF-Pilot but it hurt the performance of my farm quite badly, as you can imagine. My advice would be to just supervise the farm, eat least until the first pirate has gone to pirate-heaven. Especially if your mind is as chaotic as mine. ;-)
How profitable is this? I'm guessing even with constant pirate streams it would be fairly slow since those 'lesser' pirate bounties are normally around 100k and under mark? Basically how many hours of AFK would it take to return on investment the 500-600mil it cost you to buy and outfit the T10?
@@Volkaer been awhile since i played E:D so i dont know how it is now but you make tons of credits this way. The investment in the T10 you get back superquick. See: the bounty is just nice bonusmoney. What pays the bills is the missions. Just watch the vid, it explains in detail how its done. And: dont fly without rebuy. Cause sometimes it can go wrong. You can hit a policevessel by accident or you get a lucky piratestreak and its too much for your build or you forget to deploy hardpoints or you forget to swap distributorpoints etc. Its not like you cant die doing this. If it happens its usually not a big deal though as you keep the missions, which is where the money is at.
@@Volkaer just rewatched the vid and got 2 things i would want to add: 1. If you have no fighterpilot yet: NEVER hire a pilot above the lowest rank cause they get way more expensieve than the others when they level up. Even though a low-ranked pilot wont do a lot in this they level up superquick. In general i takes a bit to build up performance as you build up your factionstanding and get higher-paying missions. So dont wonder if your first run is not as lucrative as you hope it is and dont drop a spot until given the chance to farm at 100% factionstanding. 2. There are 2 best spots to do this, as far as i know but i never tried to hoard missions the way hawks does here. I would advice for a beginner to utilize one of the gotospots first and then decide how far you wanna take it. My prefered is picking up missions in Ngalinn and hunting on low-ressites in Mainani. Altough that spot sucks a bit if you dont have a carrier. In that case you would have to park a small ship on anothers carrier to be able to grab missions and rewards as down there the next large station is a fair bit away. The second spot to pick up missions is Qama. I forgot what system it sends you to but its 4ly away or something and Qama has a big station right when you drop in. So logistically its the easier system. The downside here is that you dont have a low-ressite to hunt. You need to hunt at the navbeacon which just doesnt work aswell and also i believe there are feds there taking away some kills etc. But if you dont have a high level fighterpilot or cant afford to fully engineer your t10 qama may actually be the better spot.
@@joethesheep4675 You have no idea how much time and credits I've spent hiring and disbanding NPC pilots, until I finally got one that is "remotely" ok looking, and doesn't remind me of something that escaped human experimentation lab.
@@joethesheep4675 Yeah I get the stacking missions part - been doing that for years (usually when you have to track down a bunch of bandits, you inevitably end up killing dozen others of the same faction). Just doesn't seem like a lot, unless you go to every single station (but then you'll have to fly around every single station claiming the reward), as it pays a couple mil or a bit more per mission...
@@Gjoe735 been doing it even today when I feel lazy playing, just let it float there while I watch anime or get work done. I got a fighter with master combat rank and 2 5D hull reinforcement just in case. weapons and armor not engineered. :)
Ok, so there are few things I changed. Bi-weave with thermal resist/fast charge, only 2 point defence under the ship and rest shield boosters (3xheavy duty/super capacitors, 3xresist aug/force block). I tried to aim for less absolute shield value but more resistance, so I can tank decent enough while regenating shield quickly. About hardpoints: Went all pulse lasers with long range/flow control, except 1 medium on top and 1 medium on bottom being emissive munitions. The build works perfectly in low res, however don't expect to earn too much from bounties as I earned only 20m at the end of 5 hours from bounties alone. Missions need more reputation to pay more. And sometimes in low res, there will be empty moments that take more time than usual. One time I waited 15 minutes for any wanted ships to spawn. Sometimes they swarm you, sometimes there are none. Another problem is with the fighter, they tend to just fly quite far away if the enemy is making evasive manuevers. One time slf got 13km away in a HIGH res and there were a conda and a clipper attacking me I had to get out. I believe the build can very well do normal res sites with a decent slf pilot. I haven't come across a system that has regular res and nearby systems that give missions yet so I haven't tried, but I am almost sure It can do regular res. About the build I modified : s.orbis.zone/dsay . You can go efficient weapons with flow control if you want to squeeze a little bit more damage out of this build but I don't think It's necessary. You can use guardian shield boosters instead of hrp if you want to do high/haz res and maybe switch from bi-weave to regular shields. But I do not think haz res is doable with the amount of dps we have.
My ship got destroyed the first time i did it. Got overwhelmed by the pirates and couldn't get out in time. Not afk but focusing on other things such as streams and Videos.
You can stack massacre missions from the same NPC mission giver, but they need to be at different stations you can't stack two from the same station from the same mission giver
Just a few thoughts on this build for anyone getting started in AFK. 1. This is a solid build and you won't be disappointed putting in the effort to get it. I am 3 months into the game and hope to have my fleet carrier in the next couple of weeks. When it's time to buy your ship try and get it from somewhere like Jamerson Memorial, the ship will be cheaper and your buy back will be cheaper. I bought mine from a planetary base in the Brestla system and my friend bought his from Jameson. His buy back is 10 million less than mine. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR BUY BACK IN CHEDDER BEFORE HEADING OUT When you get dead, make sure all of your modules are selected, don't just hit "select all", scroll through as it wont always select all modules, especially in a complicated build like this. This bug cost me 300 000 000 credits. 2. Do the engineering. The basic build you can't leave unsupervised for long periods of time. It will work but not great, If you leave it you will get blowed up. Prioritize the Dweller and Farseer. Watch the video from The Blitz, it will help you. 3. Picking missions. Find a system with multiple extraction sites and shop around for stations that have a lot of factions. I was running around 6 stations for missions for Vaccae and it was a pain and a huge waste of time. Currently I have one station with 8 factions and I can usually get 15-20 missions in three stacks. Currently I am not quite allied with all factions but am pulling 3-4 stacks worth 250-300 million. 4. I'm on PC and the memory leakage in the game is real. If you leave it for more than 4 or 5 hours it will get super choppy to the point of it being unplayable and has been crashing. I know a few people having this problem and it seems to be an issue from basic systems to all out gaming rigs. 5. Positioning is important but you don't have to stick to the 2Km rule. If It gets super dead I'll move around. I've had great luck as far as 10km from the extraction point. I have had times it dies right off for long periods. You can log out and log back in but expect to get touched up when you come back as you will have to deal with a pile on. The other thing I have done is jump into super cruise then come back. 6. Be patient, the game will go through lulls where you're not being attacked. However, people are complaining about a lack of consistency so keep an eye on it till you get a steady flow of soon to be dead pirates. ...my two cents. 07 Commanders!!
Could you advise the system with lots of factions to pick a few massacre missions? I haven't tried it yet, but my idea was just to fly arpund a few stations. And I read that you don't recommend that way of picking up missions
@@MrFozy but you mentioned that it was a pain and a waste of time. Now you have 1 station with 8 factions. What is the name of the station and the system?
My ship is getting hammered. I've got a semi engineer ship. I've even tried the type 10 build. I've lost about 300m plus and minus several million from rebuy these past three days...
Yeah, me too. It seems like a few weeks after this came out, the NPCs in low rez sites are extremely tough or I've had 10 to 15 swarm my ship and destroy it before I could do anything. Also after about 5 minutes my fighter stood responding to any threats, or my turrets decide not to shoot.
It still works, even though odyssey PD are bugged. The key to doing this is: get a transport mission so NPCs can't take your cargo. The only issue I have is system defense force going after the pirates before I can even start shooting them, but that's only occasionally
I'm doing this on a engeneerd corvette with ginbels and left the pilot flying the mother's hip. Launched my self close to an asteroid and turned off every module on the lf expert for sensor and life support and the pirates don't even detect me.
Howdy, Hawkes! Always appreciate your content! Finding quite some fun in the Type 10 AFK build, just added a Prismatic Shield for extra durability. Build was easy, finding the best system was a different story. Wanted to update on some things I found: the system you have been using does not seem to have a Low Res site anymore, they must have shuffled the belts at some point. There are almost no systems in the bubble anymore where you can collect missions from SEVERAL systems to hunt pirates in ONE system. Seems to be more a case of one system giving mission for only one other system. And then there are different tiers of comfort and efficiency relating to number of stations in the mission giving system, distance to star, etc. The system I chose after some research: Mission giver: METZILI, Low Res site to hunt in BZ CETI. There are 4 mission giver stations in Metzili, all close to star, all with L pads. The Low Res site is close to the star in BZ Ceti and I get scanned/attacked literally every minute. Still running some tests and numbers but the last round I did took about 2 hrs to complete all missions and yielded around 200m - so not bad. Anyways, thanks for the inspiration!
In testing at a low REZ site, most of the pirates show up, scan, apologize for the intrusion, and leave. Perhaps with the massacre missions it is different? The ship works great if I tell my fighter to go after them.
you have to buy some "valuable stuff", my first try was the same as yours since I had some low value cargo loaded. Once I exchanged it with something better they "like" me more :)
Yea, this happened on my first test...i went with something cheap (in case I got blown into space dust). After that i went back and loaded up on the most expensive cargo at the station, now the pirates are tripping on each other to get to my cargo.
Bi-weave with fast charge and high resistances seems to help a lot. Afked for a couple hours while watching videos. Never had my shield lose even a single ring. I might go up to a medium RES.
Tried in medium - they are able to kill you if strong wing of three appears and there are no police nerby. So it's OK when you are supervising the game, not so much AFK. I have fully engineered T-10 with bi-weaves thermal res and fast recharge and my fighter pilot is deadly, flying in taipan.
@@sillyrunner1 there are a couple of different possibilities. You need to go get on the Ed tools website and use the massacre tool and set Colonia as a nearby star system reference and a short list of viable massacre locations should pop up. I should mention that these missions obviously are not as plentiful out here, and you might struggle to fill up your mission board at first and sometimes you may not feel it at all because there aren't that many stations and factions out here to get missions from. But if you're just looking to make some extra cheddar while you're taking a nap, there's no harm in stacking as many missions as you can find and tossing your type 10 Pirate Popper out there in the low res for a little while. It's a really great way to acquire manufactured parts while you're out here too, because there is no davs hope in Colonia
i find this perfect for me. i have a type 10, and im in middle school so i need to do homework. but while i do hw i can afk like this and make millions. thanks for posting this
I started doing this AFK method on 4/13/2021 with a combat rating of Mostly Harmless. I played for 2 days without engineering and died twice. Since then, I've engineered the ship as shown and I now only die once every 3 days or so. But I make over 200 Million each time I AFK, so I don't mind paying for a new ship when I die. As of 5/4/2021, I've made 3.1 Billion. Thanks @Hawkes Gaming for the information and video.
Finally completed this build and it does work. I am concerned though of an 8 hour farm session. I let this run for about an hour and a half while I mowed the yard and my fuel was down a bit. I think I will adjust the build and get rid of the shield cell banks and get an extra fuel tank. Just my thoughts. I did make a couple hundred mil with only about 10 stacked missions. Gonna take the time to fully stack and try for more on next go. Keep in mind it still takes time to stack missions so this is not really an exploit. The time and money put into the build alone as well as stacking missions each time are intense. I spent a little over a half a billion to build out this ship and spent many more hours getting materials for the engineering. I could have made a couple billion with that time alone if I was focused on mining. The goal here is to get something that can pay itself off over time if it is not nerfed.
Out of curiosity. You mention that you can do this with the krait mk2. Would you be able to share the build of it considering it has to be heavily engineered for this, or make a video on it. Love what you’re doing commander. I’ve learned a lot and got into elite dangerous because of you. 🖤
It works with Horizon, but not in Odyssey ( from the latest reply i too can confirm the PDT is broken) In Odyssey the PDT does nothing to incoming limpets, even when locating them all at the bottom side of the T10 You need to play in Horizon, once you set up, rotate your ship vertically (Y axis) doesnt matter up or down. The rotation forces NPC to move around, giving your turrets the angle to shoot, and forcing the npc to not be at the blindspots of your turrets. NPC even in RES(low) can spawn in wings, and if you engage with 2 different wings (happened to me alot) you basically have no chance if your ship is not rotating Launch your fighter, set to "Engage at will" and you can leave the game running while doing at things. Meaning you cannot use your computer for the duration of the AFK. Best time for this is before bed. I've been doing this for the past week, and its working just fine. Hope this help, and fly dangerously commanders o7 PS : My T10 has 0 engineering in it. i only bought the game 2 weeks ago so give me a break.
I'd love to discuss this a bit more with you, each time I try I get wrecked. I have a similar build to yours I would say. When you say rotate do you mean your ship is in constant rotation up or down?
@@timreneau6916 yep, that´s what he meant, just turn assist off and make it rotate vertically. Also, with assist off you can use the computer while playing, the ship will keep rotating without the game being focused.
For the krait mk2, how does this sound: 3 large long range pulse turrets probably g3 or g2, two medium long range probably g3 beams - engineered to have thermal vent, basic engineering on the shield generator and boosters
I don't know what you need to engineer the boosters for, and you definitely want to also include a fighter hanger. Probably could work really well sounds like a good setup depends on how Stout you make that shield generator and how many boosters you put on it and how well engineered that whole thing is
@@sequoia1171 the boosters and shield generator are already engineered, i forgot to mention the slf bay but the setup has been performing very well with none of the engineering i mentioned
So: how do you get rid of pesky cops stealing all the kills? Even with report crimes off, they still show up, hover near me and kill the pirates while they are still scanning and making demands: aka, before they even open fire on my ship beginning the combat.
I’m with unmodded military grade composite bulkhead, hull reinforcement packages (as per recommended build BUT modded with G5 heavy duty + deep plating). To take risks and enhance profit, I hired the cheapest (weakest) NPC crew. After 5 hours of sleep, my type 10 is down to 78% hull left and SLF was gone.
Very good guide ! Unfortunately AFK grinding seems obsolete since Update 17. A common issue happens now with System Authority Vessels detecting a crime out of nowhere and attacking the player, even if Allied with their faction. It happened to me twice in a row and I found out it is well-known and still unresolved issue (bug ticket n°62015).
Well made 2+ billion, 1 combat rank, tons of materials, and ranked up my co-pilot to Deadly in the past 6 days doing this. Pretty fun. I will say that non-engineered is too easy to get blown up when truly AFK. My Type-10 is now tanked out and engineered with about 2700 Shields, 3400 hull, Deadly fighter pilot, g5 efficient beams (1-medium 2 large), the rest pulse/burst lasers G5 long range with the 3 Bursts scrambled spectrum. Now I can leave it in a Low rez with no worries, but mostly use Medium rez sites and just babysit it here and there throughout the workday. When I jump on I take it to a High-rez where I just need to keep all 9 guns pointed at targets and pick who the fighter goes after. So far the most I've made with a full 20 stack of missions is around 400million though (most of the time it's right around 300mil) and it takes a long. ass. time. to go around getting all those. Generally I have to split it between two systems or it just takes way to long to even get/return the missions
So it works for you I am trying it I dont have your build I just stuck guardian modules in I dont think I can get the run as you do plus I can't get the missions lol I see what your saying though took you 6 days to build it all up I dont know I think there needs to be a better guide theres one guy he says he has everything the same but it just doesn't work
@@williammccafferty8558 well it didn't take 6 days to build up. I had purchased and A-rated a T-10 with an hour or so of seeing this video. Stacked missions and parked in a Low-rez in a couple more. Let it run overnight and in the morning it had completed all missions, but my fighter was dead and my hull was at 86%. So I engineered it to G3. Let it run the next day and my fighter got killed a few times so I had to babysit it a bit to make sure my fighter stayed alive. Let it run that night and woke up to a rebuy screen (which is no big deal since you don't really lose anything). So then I engineered it up to max G5 and now it can sit in a medium Rez almost without issue. What gets you killed is your fighter dying. So it works best to just run it when you can check on it from time to time.
Forgot to say it doesn't really need any more of a tutorial than what's already this vid. TYPE-10, all turrets and Fighter. Big sheilds and hull reinforcement. Stack up to 20 massacre missions (both wing and normal) for a system or two that have Low, Medium and High rez zones available. Load it with expensive goods (gold works good). Park in Low Rez roughly 5k above the Rez marker. Turrets set to fire at will. Fighter set to Aggressive/Engage at will (otherwise it will not defend you against ships shooting hatch breakers). Babysit it or just let it run. Profit. Repeat and engineer to taste.
1. Doesn't an NPC pilot take some of your profit (12% for expert) and half of your combat xp? Is it the additional DPS that justifies using them? 2. How does having an NPC fly the main ship that has gimballed weapons compare to having the NPC fly an SLF with main ship having turrets? 3. How many massacre missions do you typically have stacked before heading out to lowres?
1. If you recruit the lowest pilot and train it to Elite it will cost 10% of your profits and it takes half your combat XP. But the fighter has like 40 DPS (the mothership with turrets has like 80 when ALL turrets would hit) and it can chase ships that try to escape. So definitely worth it. 2. The problem if you give the NPC the mothership with gimbals is more when you die in the figher. Then you get back in the mothership and it won't shoot anymore (because gimbals) and you sit there and will be killed. 3. I take 20 missions from around 4 different factions (so like 5 per faction) in Ngalinn and do the killing in Mainani. It takes 1-3 board flips (0-20min) to get all missions together. Takes around 6-10 hours until all missions are finished, so enough for a work day or sleep.
@@seshatar580 should be noted that both Mainani & Ngalinn only have medium pad stations, so unless you have a fleet carrier you'll need to park up somewhere else, switch to a smaller ship, fly to Ngalinn to pick up the missions, fly back and swap ships again. And do the same again to hand them in
This doesn't work. Auto turrets won't shoot enemies that are not marked color red on the radar, I been killed many times because the turrets keep ignoring ships that show in yellow/orange color in the radar and they are shooting at my ship. They are killing me, they are not in red/agro, it's bug for like 7 ears now with auto turrets. It fixes if you land on a station or planet or logoff and logging again. Defeating the purpose.
Haven't run into this, made 100 billion only afk-ing. Need to be in a discord tho with other players. eg I have stacks of mission worth 500 mil. So do 3 others cmdrs. Wing share profit translate 100%. 2 billion 1-2 times a day, stacks up quite well in the long run.
I've been following your engineers guide for a while now and am stuck grinding my Combat rank for Lori Jameson. This sounds like an excellent alternative to killing Thargoid Scouts over and over again!
So apparently I can't post a short link, it gets auto deleted. Long link below. Basically all that's important is G2 long range weapons, distributor, thermal bi weaves with fast charge and a bunch of guardian boosters. Sonnova... it took down the link again...
I have been trying this in the background for the past day and here are some notes: • Very slow at times; seems broken - only about $1M per hour. Up to 20 minutes went by with no activity to begin. Then other times it is reasonable; probably RNG depending on instance. • I have not tried mission stacking yet - I am just testing the survivability before risking a $20M rebuy. • Apparently Hatchbreaker Limpets are not considered an attack (!!), and the turrets will not engage that pirate even if within range of turrets. T10 Point Defense destroys the limpets in a seemingly endless loop (until pirate runs out of limpets or point defence ammo is depleted). This is a problem. See SLF. • SLF must be on ENGAGE AT WILL (not DEFEND) -- it will attack Pirates with Hatch Breaker Limpets • T10 with un-engineered 8A shields and un-engineered Shield Boosters marginally safe -- but uncomfortable to leave unattended. No damage taken, but down to 1/2 ring of shield during simultaneous attack from 4 or 5. Increasing engineering to 8A (Reinforced G3/FastCharge) + G5 HeavyDuty/SuperCaps on 3 boosters is enough to seem invulnerable to most wing attacks (FDL + Krait wing was a problem though). More engineering will make this completely bullet-proof • As previously stated, engineering the Distributor is crucial -- G5 Charge Enhanced is not quite enough -- add Super Conduit.. Then 3 Pips Sys + 3 Pips Weps yields no shield degradation and full weapons bars during most any attack I saw. • Weak link here is the SLF (Taipan Gelid F with Elite pilot) -- we need it for this build to work but it inevitably accumulates damage. One time over 3 hours, it was at 56% hull. Another time it had one bad battle in the first hour and was at 19%. I am not sure what to do about this. Defend-mode would be better on the SLF, but Engage-at-will is needed to deal with Hatchbreakers.
Turning flight assist off and setting your ship to slowly flip front over back solves most of the hatch breaker and fighter dying problems for me. Flipping makes the ships trying to break in move about and for some reason the turrets and fighter both seem to pick them up and attack much more consistently.
@@samofthetribe9296... not sure about that. A pirate was right in front of the T10, about 1km away, spamming me with limpets. Turrets would not engage until (if) fired upon. But I like the FA off idea to keep them from blindsiding.
It's been awhile since any one has talked about it. Lately seems every other night i wake up to rebuy screen due to space police Barely brake even. I did try put the fighter in defend mode. That helped. Im going to have to find an Anarchy system to try in. Im doing everything that's in this guide aside from the pd i put them in the last 2 slots under the ship where the hach is. Fun experiment but Ultimately don't think it's worth it. Conda melts everything in hi res faster than they can spawn. Makes a lot more per hour plus eng mats nothing to shot at may as well run around and collect it.
@@HawkesGaming If the energy weapons from the Type 10 take down the shields of attacking ships, the fixed multi-cannon Condor with Chaff is a good option too, as it does most damage to hulls with shields down.
i have a T10 tht uses the most basic meta pvp stuff lmao rails pacifiers PAs and it works lmaooo, only thing it has the shit agility of the cutter, half the sheild for its class, and makes the gunship look like usain bolt
just tried the AFK build on my Conda for like three hours while i went to town and back and it worked very very well. All missions was completed and had 10 mil in just bounties alone. After cashing in these mission here in a few id say i prolly made close to a hundred mil easy and thats very nice for just easy pickins while im off doing other things.
only issue i can say i found so far with it was that it was super laggy when i sat down to mess with it after being AFK. Might just be me tho since i tabbed out and back in but it still seems to work fine
Has this been patched in any way yet? considering doing this myself, but I dont want to waste cash on the build if it has already been patched or will be soon.
this is great set up my my massacre missions the night before and when I go to school (for about 4 hours) it does it all while I'm gone the I only have a partly upgraded type 10 but I would say that the distributor and the power plant are a must and the beam lasers with thermal vent are very nice too.
Haven't played for a few weeks now (Valheim got me consumed) but I was at 1.3b after like 2 weeks following Hawkes get rich quick scheme. Best of luck to you cmdr o7
Ask on Discord for people who do it, many missions are wing missions and they can be shared once completed before turning in. So if you have 20 missions for like 500M to turn in, you can gift up to 3 other people the 500M too.
Starting out is slow, but the money and ranks come quickly once you get into it. You can use the updates Road to Riches guide or either of the main faction power levelling guides. You end up with about a billion in the bank and at least one faction fully open for faction exclusive ship purchasing. (I went federal for the corvette first....gods i love my mini star destroyer
It comes in a bit cheaper if you go with a class 8 Bi-weave shield instead of a standard one. Arguably better too. Just make sure to put some boosters on it.
I started playing Elite Dangerous because of Hawkes Gaming's original "How to have the best start in Elite Dangerous" video, and in my first week I had earned BILLIONS of credits, and that's with a full time job and a family to waste most of my time.

A few changes to the build in the description to not die so easy:
1) Dont run A rated shields - use 8C bi-weaves with thermal/fast charge
2) No beam lasers - all pulse lasers, all with long range. All with flow control except one on top and one on bottom with emissive munitions. This way you can keep your pips at 4-0-2.
3) 2 point defense on bottom with high capacity, no reason for having one on top since the limpets will need to go to the bottom of the ship to hatch break you and if you run out of ammo on the bottom one the top one wont help much
4) 4 shield boosters with heavy duty/super capacitor and 2 shield boosters with resistance augmented/force block
With this setup your shields recharge as fast as they can inflict damage, and if they do fall they recharge in less than 2 mins
Also, your lasers can shoot pretty much indefinitely and you have no heat issues if using 8A power plant with armored/thermal spread, and the 2 lasers with emissive munitions will help you not lose lock on enemies running cold.
Make sure you engineer the distributor all the way to grade 5 charge enhaced/super conduits its very important for shield recharge and for laser stability
yep bi-weaves are the way to go here.
Aye but those hatch breaking limits though
I am just being argumentative, but I think if we tracked it all out we would find no difference between Gold and BioWaste.
I agree A J B,
I hold on to some Palladium and Gold(just one ton of each) in general as I fly around and pick up a lot of Idio...
I think this might be the issue I had first night in. Thanks for the tip!

Just getting back into the game, I'd be curious to know how it does without an engineered build.
Thank you for great vid and tutorial!
After 3 days of testing, both "background", assisted AFK and overnight AFK I have the following observations:
@@ChaosContrl or just turn off flght assist and add some spin manually and it will continue forever
@@kagami3k HA good one!
@space man not exactly cheap but really worth it :D
Thing is a damn beast...
Some quick tips after trying this:
Build: I’ve been doing this with 8c bi weave shields, b rated power plant and have been surviving fine, this also drastically reduces cost
ebuy cost (my ship is also not engineered).
Took me 3 board flips at station to get 4 factions to give me 20 missions at 15 mil+ (so pirates are giving me credit for 4 missions at a time, meaning I need about 200 pirate kills to complete all missions, at about 10 kills every 20 minutes this shakes out to 6 hours to complete 350 mil of missions)

I understand the whole point of this is to be afk, but you can make $350 million in robigo in about 3 hours. I'm on Xbox anyway, I have a feeling this may not work for me
@@sequoia1171 unfortunately I don't think it works because console has an afk timer

YES! Thank you hawkes! This build will finally save me from the deathly boredom that is mining. Huge thumbs up! 👍
The way he sounds so enthusiastic and pissed at the same time though.
This is probably why I died. I was getting barraged but my turrets weren't always firing
@@Joshimitsu99 I've noticed in practice that the turrets tend to lose their tracking ability when more than 3 opponents engage you. I smell a bug
@@Joshimitsu99 I died overnight too. I'm fairly certain it was the turrets.
Ignore my previous remark about the disconnects, perhaps it was the Thursdays server reboots... It works like a charm 🙂.
@@BoukeGroenescheij How long did it take to reach 1 billion?

i do it in an empirial courier lol
Sweet, I hoped I could do that. I'll be using my exploration AspX to pick up missions then. Thank you for sharing that info, CMDR. Appreciate it! o7
You have to take a "dispatch" mission first. 4t cargo is enough. The trick is that pirates do not break hatch when cargo storage contains commodities from a mission. So, one or two more shield boosters. Bi-weave shield is required for AFK.
I did something like this years ago while in Power Play with a conda before engineering and SLF's....the only time I died was when I ran out of fuel
Maybe that's true only for the bubble? Because I've gotten masacre missions >16Ly away from the mission giver in Colonia
I did a mas mission 30k away a sec ago
Welp, in the last few days I've gone from 1.8B to 4.5B. Will likely hit 5B tonight. A few observations:
4. My guy in the SLF often gets himself killed
So for point 5 you basically AFK in a SLF while the NPC pilot kills everyone with gimablled/possibly fixed weapons?
I need to try that..
How about a anaconda
@@lamontwhite2414 Anaconda should do just fine. With an even bigger power distributor than the type-10 it will have no problem keeping up with damage spikes. With resistance engineered shield boosters you should be pretty much bulletproof
Ok so I tried that, and I don't recommend using a cutter, it turns slowly so less time on target, and when it boosts, it goes 4km away from the fight
Next day it was on rebuy screen

I use my own fighter since I pay her only 10% at Elite rank ( schooled her from Novice long time ago ! ) ;
So far I just watched, without intervention - the monster can hold 2 wings at once, and in the worst moment I lost just one ring from shields, and so far, in 1 h I got 24 kills, 21 of them for missions.
Because it's a quest item they can't get to it unless they blow me up.
hmm... that´s a good tip actually.
Playing in horizons also seems to solve the issue.
Been doing this for about a week. Wasn't even engineered until last night. It's almost stupid how effective this is. I can make way more money by NOT playing than I ever realistically could actually playing. Perfect embodiment of Elite.
Just tried it for last two days. Too many cops and barely any pirates show up.

Hello there
I love your videos, keep up the great work. I'm sure this will help a lot of other CMDR's
I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO ENTHUSED TO BUY THE TYPE 10 UNTIL NOW! QUICK, BEFORE THEY PATCH IT!!!!!
the only patch they can do is a T10 nerf, but they can't patch it cause he is already shit af excepted for doing this
@@emosreno2101 But they can ban you for it if im not mistaken they did it to multiple players in the past and it does not matter if you are in solo because even players in solo were banned for it i think. Making money in elite is already kinda easy so why use method like this if you do not have time to play then just do not play elite and go play some kind of game which is not really time intensive like e-sports games is my oppinion.

For better recharge time, make all of the boosters resistance augmented instead of having some heavy duty.
oh shit right on can do this on my conda, just remembered..
Heavy duty DOESN'T affect your recharge speed. It's beacuse your shield has more juice, it appears to recharhe slower (in percents) but it doesn't.
New player question for all of this. Can you AFK farm with this build in a wing and if so will your ships defend each other?
So setting the weapons to fire at will takes care of the ship and sticking your pilot in the fighter boosts the protection all around. That sure beats getting slaughtered by pirates.
Thank you for sharing this method, now I can get rid of my Mostly Harmless description of my combat abilities.
ugh, you should do combat grind properly. pretty cheap to rock an elite rating you afk'ed.
@@seraphik It will show in the skill level as well . Elite pilots are elite because they can beat other elite pilots.
Worked great for me. lightly engineered T10 (Although I wonder if the cutter wouldn't do better.. might try that tonight)
The Key factors:
Have VALUABLE cargo (I use 16xgold and lose about 5 per 8 hours of AFK)
Have at least THREE point defense turrets
Have a good shield (8A) strongly recommend engineered or biweave
Turreted Beam lasers need VENTING experimental or they will overheat your ship on chaffers
Turreted Pulse lasers need FLOW CONTROL experimental or they will overheat your ship on chaffers
A good power distributor 7A Weapon-Focused with Super conduits on mine (borrowed it from my miner)
A decent pilot (expert or better) on ATTACK AT WILL
SET YOUR TURRETS TO FIRE AT WILL (If you want to instigate a fight just target a wanted ship, set your fighter to "focus on target" and the turrets will do the rest)
Turn off "report crimes against me"... there are enough OP cops at LOW-RES sites as it is
Make sure your weapons are OUT and your fighter is deployed before you go AFK!
@@hungryowl1559 Yeah Chup has two stations one being a medium. There are loads of missions there.
Thank you.
I was waiting for this.
Pips are 3/0/3, SLF is ranked Deadly:

I'm guessing just turreted pulse/burst lasers everywhere.
@@Volkaer just rewatched the vid and got 2 things i would want to add:

This is probably the best guide I've ever seen for ED. Can't wait to try this!
tried it... got nuked. two times ^^
i would just like to add that you can stack massacre missions from same npc, as soon you complete one kills count for the next one.
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR BUY BACK IN CHEDDER BEFORE HEADING OUT
When you get dead, make sure all of your modules are selected, don't just hit "select all", scroll through as it wont always select all modules, especially in a complicated build like this.

Bruh, this is exactly what I've been looking for!!! I thought it could be possible in the dropship but this works so great!
Its actually more effective to hire an npc pilot at harmless and then train Them. They Will take a much lower cut of profits
Thats lit lmao just let the homie fly 😂
I plan on giving this method a try tbh.
Hi! Does this system still work?
Thanks to Hawkes and Blitz! You are beautiful human beings ❤️😎
N.B. if you acquire the cargo via accepting a trade mission, it can not be stolen via hatchbreakers.. that way you do not need point defense
I have been trying this I go back every 2 hours everything is dead I think I am choosing the wrong missions
In testing at a low REZ site, most of the pirates show up, scan, apologize for the intrusion, and leave. Perhaps with the massacre missions it is different? The ship works great if I tell my fighter to go after them.
do you have valuable cargo on your ship? they only attack if they scan something worth stealing
you have to buy some "valuable stuff", my first try was the same as yours since I had some low value cargo loaded. Once I exchanged it with something better they "like" me more :)
Put narcotics on the ship. Pirates love drugs
Ever bump up res?
Tried in medium - they are able to kill you if strong wing of three appears and there are no police nerby. So it's OK when you are supervising the game, not so much AFK. I have fully engineered T-10 with bi-weaves thermal res and fast recharge and my fighter pilot is deadly, flying in taipan.

Well if you make your way over to Colonia there's plenty of this action going on
Where in Colonia is this happening?
Ngalinn - Mainani
The real cool thing about this method is that many of the rewards are grade 5 engineering mats. I been claiming that on rewards over space cheddar.
Instructions unclear; I ran out of fuel.
When I do this, I turn flight assist off and put the ship into a slow roll, helps with those few ships that sit in a weapons blind spot.
Out of curiosity. You mention that you can do this with the krait mk2. Would you be able to share the build of it considering it has to be heavily engineered for this, or make a video on it. Love what you’re doing commander. I’ve learned a lot and got into elite dangerous because of you. 🖤
It works with Horizon, but not in Odyssey ( from the latest reply i too can confirm the PDT is broken)
In Odyssey the PDT does nothing to incoming limpets, even when locating them all at the bottom side of the T10
You need to play in Horizon, once you set up, rotate your ship vertically (Y axis) doesnt matter up or down.
The rotation forces NPC to move around, giving your turrets the angle to shoot, and forcing the npc to not be at the blindspots of your turrets.
NPC even in RES(low) can spawn in wings, and if you engage with 2 different wings (happened to me alot) you basically have no chance if your ship is not rotating
Launch your fighter, set to "Engage at will" and you can leave the game running while doing at things.
Meaning you cannot use your computer for the duration of the AFK. Best time for this is before bed.
I've been doing this for the past week, and its working just fine.
Hope this help, and fly dangerously commanders o7
PS : My T10 has 0 engineering in it. i only bought the game 2 weeks ago so give me a break.
@@CristianoFerr I've learned something new. Thanks
Can we just say what this really is ....its a sting operation in space you lure pirates in with promises of fortune then pwn them mamoth attack power

So: how do you get rid of pesky cops stealing all the kills? Even with report crimes off, they still show up, hover near me and kill the pirates while they are still scanning and making demands: aka, before they even open fire on my ship beginning the combat.
Dude these stupid cops will not go away, God damn space pigs
As long as you hit the pirate once you get the credit for the kill.
oh, try a different star system.
some are "high security", some are "low security", and some are "anarchy", which affects how many cops there are.
Does anyone have a Krait mk2 build for AFK?
Very good guide ! Unfortunately AFK grinding seems obsolete since Update 17. A common issue happens now with System Authority Vessels detecting a crime out of nowhere and attacking the player, even if Allied with their faction. It happened to me twice in a row and I found out it is well-known and still unresolved issue (bug ticket n°62015).
Is it only with me that after a couple of hours afk the game start lagging a looot?

@@sethpeterson8261 Hi! Could yo explain a little how to stack missions properly or where would you recommend
@@miichelgm I would if I remembered. I stopped playing it within a couple days of Odyssey dropping and haven't played it since
@@seshatar580 do you do this on ps4 Xbox or PC?
@@robblevins6009 PC
@@seshatar580 should be noted that both Mainani & Ngalinn only have medium pad stations, so unless you have a fleet carrier you'll need to park up somewhere else, switch to a smaller ship, fly to Ngalinn to pick up the missions, fly back and swap ships again. And do the same again to hand them in
Time to get some engineering done. Thanks for all those ED guides!
I think it got nerfed. Worked a few weeks ago, not now.
@@carloschaparro07 Mamadas. Bye 680 mil
Thargoid scouts have been nerfed for a while. They are only master rank not elite.
Oddly enough, a budget gunship could also pull this off due to number of hardpoints and their placement. I'll whip up a build.
So apparently I can't post a short link, it gets auto deleted. Long link below. Basically all that's important is G2 long range weapons, distributor, thermal bi weaves with fast charge and a bunch of guardian boosters.

My first attempt with a gunship h has not gone well.
@@gungan5822 the only issue I kept running into was my hired pilot dying, that's when the gunship would get into trouble for me
I have been trying this in the background for the past day and here are some notes:
• Very slow at times; seems broken - only about $1M per hour.
See SLF.
• SLF must be on ENGAGE AT WILL (not DEFEND) -- it will attack Pirates with Hatch Breaker Limpets
• T10 with un-engineered 8A shields and un-engineered Shield Boosters marginally safe -- but uncomfortable to leave unattended. More engineering will make this completely bullet-proof
• As previously stated, engineering the Distributor is crucial -- G5 Charge Enhanced is not quite enough -- add Super Conduit..
Sounds a little overkill but could you do this with an imperial cutter.
Sweet
It's been awhile since any one has talked about it. Lately seems every other night i wake up to rebuy screen due to space police Barely brake even. I did try put the fighter in defend mode. That helped. Im going to have to find an Anarchy system to try in. Im doing everything that's in this guide aside from the pd i put them in the last 2 slots under the ship where the hach is. Fun experiment but Ultimately don't think it's worth it. Conda melts everything in hi res faster than they can spawn. Makes a lot more per hour plus eng mats nothing to shot at may as well run around and collect it.
which SLF is being used/recommended cause i've got the plasma repeater ones stocked at the moment and im wondering if theres a better one
Tapin with 2 x beans and a heat sink is the best with at least a 150,000 hired master pilot.
thanks man, your videos help so much
@@HawkesGaming If the energy weapons from the Type 10 take down the shields of attacking ships, the fixed multi-cannon Condor with Chaff is a good option too, as it does most damage to hulls with shields down.

only issue i can say i found so far with it was that it was super laggy when i sat down to mess with it after being AFK. Might just be me tho since i tabbed out and back in but it still seems to work fine

Has this been patched in any way yet? considering doing this myself, but I dont want to waste cash on the build if it has already been patched or will be soon.
Wondering the same thing
I heard that FDev tried to stop afk farming by making hatch breaker limpets immortal, idk if that's true but if it is then I guess that's it
It works but I haven’t been able to earn much only because the mission boards seem to have much less massacre missions
this is great set up my my massacre missions the night before and when I go to school (for about 4 hours) it does it all while I'm gone the I only have a partly upgraded type 10 but I would say that the distributor and the power plant are a must and the beam lasers with thermal vent are very nice too.
As a new player, I only dream of getting $608mil for the build.
