No one completely forgot The Rock's original failed push. It's one of the most famous original failed pushes in pro-wrestling history. Why you always lyin', WhatCulture?
Imagine having three quarters (Arn, Tully and Windham) of the strongest incarnation of arguably the greatest stable of all time (The Four Horsemen) along with their manager (JJ Dillon) all join your company from your biggest rivals at roughly the same time and not know how to use them 🤦🏾♂️
Well they couldn't use them as the Four Horsemen could they? And WWE did know how to use them. Arn and Tully were The Brainbusters and were great, even if they were essentially just the same as in the Horsemen
Garry Morrison don’t get me wrong I liked Bullet Club from what I saw of them but The Four Horsemen are arguably the greatest and most important stable in wrestling history, that said though it is another example of WWF/WWE not knowing what to do with stars when they sign them and basically just sign them to keep them out of the reach of other promotions.
Stone Cold as Ringmaster The Rock as Rocky Maivia Bret Hart as Cowboy Brett Imagine these wrestlers getting early pushes as their original respective gimmicks
Me too. I just happened upon it one Saturday night. I stuck with it through _Shotgun Saturday Night,_ then _Shotgun,_ and finally _Jakked/Metal._ Yes I watched both, they were slightly different programs.
The one failed push I feel deserves more intention than it received is THE Brian Kendrick. Back at the first Championship Scramble match he was warned by Vince McMahon not to pull any funny business in the closing moments after being the champion for the majority of the match. He was told his rise to the top would end in moments. He absolutely regretted not listening to his gut and not force the match to end with him being the champion. I really think something could of happened here. Far better than the crap months later with Kozlov being a contender.
Shelton Benjamin in 2006. I remember he was starting a feud with Triple H, but then it just kind of disappeared... maybe not a failed push, but a scrapped push.
I had a bunch of WWF trading cards and there were a TON of The Widow Maker, so it's hard for me to forget about that. I also remember ALL of Bammer's work because he was so awesome.
I remember Vince calling Don Muraco "The Rock" during a few matches and Gorilla saying Cowboy Bob Orton was "a man who truly has Excellence of Execution". They didn't stick so they tried them again years later on Dwayne Johnson and Bret Hart and we all know how that went.
I actually remembered Widow Maker. Lol. As a kid that just watched WWF, they would keep bringing in nwa stars like Dusty Rhodes and refer to them as legends, but I'd have no idea who they were.
Where to find some Icopro? Ask Bret Hart's neighbors, they may still have some. 😉😂 Also, as an OSW Reviews fan, I actually knew of some of these before.
Bam Bam Bigelow's first appearance in WWE was back before that. They had a contest between all of the heel managers to see who was gonna be his manager. Heenan,Fuji,Slick,Luscios Jonny V,etc....And he ended up bringing out his own manager Oliver Humperdinck.
Simon, you are not Jules, you are not a phony. How could you shill for this list and act like anybody forgot about The Rocks first push? Shame on you bro
When WWF teamed Barry Windham with Bradshaw (then going as Justin "Hawk" Bradshaw) and gave them the gimmick of the "New Blackjacks" they literally gave Barry his father's gimmick. His father was Blackjack Mulligan who teamed with Blackjack Lanza as the original Blackjacks. Interesting note: Barry Windham made his debut in the NWA (Jim Crockett Promotions) as Blackjack Mulligan Jr.
You guys don't do research before doing these lists, do you? Fatu is A.K.A Rikishi. He was NOT the Samoan Gansta party. That duo, made up of Rosey and samu, were brought in to fued with Fatu. That took me all of 1 minute to look up. Do you know why I looked it up? Because neither of the guys dressed like "gangstas" in the video are Fatu/Rikishi. Soooo...that leads me to believe that whatculture thinks Rosey and Rikishi are one and the same. 😒
Honky Tonk Man was a heel in a few territories, so when WWF/E would have shows there, people remembered and boo'd the heck outta him. WWF/E ignores the wrestlers past, so being a mega heel in a territory didnt' register with them as to why their new babyface is getting boo'd. Honky Tonk Man said it in an interview.
A few of these aren't pushes. They are just characters that were played. The Rock as Rocky Maivia was a push. But the Headbangers as the Flying Nuns was a quick, ok we tried it, it didn't work. Next. There was no push
You didn’t mention what Papi Chulo means. It’s Spanish for “Pimp Daddy,” at least according to the announce team. I’ve never forgotten the name or what it supposedly means ever since then. This would also explain the fur coats and fedoras and what have you.
how about hulk hogan's first run in wwf as a bad guy in 1979-1980, with manager freddie blassie, fighting against Andre the Giant. who remembers that?? (i remember he was a bad guy, had to look up the details)
I love Simon, I'm not even a wrestling fan anymore but I watch Simon all the time cause he's awesome, genius level comedy but I do have to disagree with one thing, in America we don't forget anything about Bam Bam or Lawrence Taylor.
The Widowmaker wasn't Barry's first run in the company. He and Mike Rotundo held the tag titles as the US Express long before widowmaker showed up.
And were the original users of the entrance music "Real American".
@@locutus442 Which they got to use for, like, four months before they left.
I hope everyone knows that
Its not like he won a title or anything...this channel has no idea about history, terms or anything you can google really.
Cowboy Brett? Kinda funny when his finisher is The Sharpshooter
No doubt. Interesting. I never connected that.
Though the name was to fit the "Hitman" gimmick, it's funny how it could have worked for that as well
And he played a Cowboy on Dr. Quin medicine women if I'm not mistaken.
Ronnie Fox Lonesome Dove was the show.
lol so true
No one completely forgot The Rock's original failed push. It's one of the most famous original failed pushes in pro-wrestling history. Why you always lyin', WhatCulture?
Lots of pointless lists to make
FLEX
KAVANA
Fucking LOL
I was at MSG for his debut. I always loved having that memory
simon calling ese rios "papichulo" not realizing thats a sexual way of saying "daddy" in spanish lmao😂😂😂
*Essa Rios.

Well they couldn't use them as the Four Horsemen could they? And WWE did know how to use them. Arn and Tully were The Brainbusters and were great, even if they were essentially just the same as in the Horsemen
Because they don't want to stole the spotlight from their own superstars ..... Like most companies do .... Take example of goldberg
They could have made Barry the third Brain Buster.
A bit like having Finn Balor, AJ Styles, Gallows and Anderson, etc and not doing anything with them re the Bullet Club.
Stone Cold as Ringmaster
The Rock as Rocky Maivia

Kayfabe would have died the first time Cowboy Brett said "about".
Mark Ryan papa Shango was awesome...to look at.
@@snerdterguson why would that kill kayfabe? What you even on aboot
No one forgot the Rock’s first push
I used to watch shotgun because it was pre smackdown, raw was on USA and I had no cable
Me too. I just happened upon it one Saturday night. I stuck with it through _Shotgun Saturday Night,_ then _Shotgun,_ and finally _Jakked/Metal._ Yes I watched both, they were slightly different programs.

Seriously, Kendrick's hella underrated. I would have loved it if he had won the title. But, life's life...
Did he really try to change the finish?
I must really be the only person who actually liked Kozlov
He wasn't just any Brian Kendrick, he was THE Brian Kendrick!
@@patrickmorales9084 He was a good comedy guy, but, I don't think there was anything else special about him.
Shelton Benjamin in 2006. I remember he was starting a feud with Triple H, but then it just kind of disappeared... maybe not a failed push, but a scrapped push.
That was the original Vince McMahon 3 week push. Benjamin beat triple h 3 weeks in a row, and then that was it.
I had a bunch of WWF trading cards and there were a TON of The Widow Maker, so it's hard for me to forget about that. I also remember ALL of Bammer's work because he was so awesome.
Agreed. Say what you want about Vader, but I'll take Bam Bam any day.
Nice OSW plug
*Bammer*
Samoan Gangsta Party would have fit in the attitude era
Simon: Fatu of the Headshrinkers was Rikishi, not Rosie.
“Heeah’s mah managuh! Heeah’s mah managuh! Sir Olivuh Humpuhdink!” As much as I love Bam Bam, his promos were the shits.
The Samoan Gangsta Party was an ECW tag team. They had a short run in 1996.
Yeah they disappeared from WWF TV then went in to feud with the Gangstas in ECW.
Right....this is a CLUELESS video smh
Also Rosey wasn't Fatu, Rikishi was.
What about Rosey's run in Eric Bischoff's team Three Minute Warning teaming with Jamal who would later get a push as Umaga.
6:06 oh man, I totally forgot about *Essa Rios* he was awesome!
Lita's first boy toy
Essa Rios definitely got overshadowed by Lita.
At 4:14, you misspelled lex luger
I actually remembered Widow Maker. Lol. As a kid that just watched WWF, they would keep bringing in nwa stars like Dusty Rhodes and refer to them as legends, but I'd have no idea who they were.
The Flying Nuns lmao
You forgot when Damien Sandow was going to play an intimidating fighter in a feud with Undertaker but he never saw the light.
...huh?
Are you thinking of that one-off Promo with Vanzen?
That’s not Sandow.
He was the Easter Bunny though.
All the years watching Wrestling I have never seen this Before. Great News.
Appreciate you doing this Simon with your car problems and etc going on
For people that don't know, the BSK on Fatu's toque stands for Bone Street Krew.
Not to mention Undertaker's tattoo of the same. 😁
You said Bam Bam cam to wwf in 98, no, not correct, that was in more like 87
yea he said brett hart came to the wwf in 94, i guess the years dont really matter
Barry windom and.mike.rutundo.great tag team champs
Shotgun Saturday night also had a super small ring.
Ahh no mention of the Samoan Gangster Party showing up in ECW...I didn't even know they were a thing in WWE prior to their run in ECW
The Rock sure was creepy when he was known as Rocky Maivia. I can see WWE letting him go if he would have continued on as that character.
The preteen Veleteen Dream is gonna call someone creepy
How was he creepy?
@Vondre Bridges By the way he smiled all the time and was always cheerful. That’s just my opinion though.
DJDoubleCee oh
4:38 GARY STRYDOM!? WOW......................
Where to find some Icopro? Ask Bret Hart's neighbors, they may still have some. 😉😂 Also, as an OSW Reviews fan, I actually knew of some of these before.
What bar are these guys?
Bam Bam Bigelow's first appearance in WWE was back before that. They had a contest between all of the heel managers to see who was gonna be his manager. Heenan,Fuji,Slick,Luscios Jonny V,etc....And he ended up bringing out his own manager Oliver Humperdinck.
Simon, you are not Jules, you are not a phony. How could you shill for this list and act like anybody forgot about The Rocks first push? Shame on you bro
Berry Windham had a much better run as a tag team with Mike Rotunda in the WWF than he did as The Widow maker, The Stalker and Blackjack Windham.
I just finished watching that entry. You guys DEFINITELY think Fatu and Rosey are the same person. Smh. Wow..
You spell the name Essa Rios, Papi Chulo, and Aguila correctly - but LEX LUGOR? *facepalm*
Kidman's push vs Hulk Hogan is a fued many have forgotten about
BRO THE FLYING NUNNS SOUND LIKE A PERFECT GROUP I WOULD LOVE TO CHEET THOSE GUYS
JBL as Justin "Hawk" Bradshaw? Al Snow as Leif Cassidy?
The Samoan Gangsta Party was an ECW tag team and were around for a while
Will you guys start using time stamps in the descriptions?
Hey guys, Brian just did a review of summerslam 1992, when are you gonna copy it?? Can't wait.
Both The Rock and Honky Tonk Man were faces whining for fans to love them thus turned heel Same thing happened to The New Day
Please say papi chulo one more time lmao
I remember watching the flying nuns and it was a strange gimmick
Yeah everyone has forgotten aaalll about Rocky Maivia, thanks for reminding us whatculture.
Isn't Rikishi the same guy as Fatu?
Did he have a stare down with himself or is he the second version of Rikishi?
You should do a list of good storylines in the invasion angle.
It definitely wouldn’t be 10, more like 3
I definitely like the Hardcore title feud with RVD and Jeff Hardy. That was certainly a highlight.
Yeah, we all forgot The Rock being Rocky Maivia.
OOO I wanna see the Flying Nuns vs the Flying Elvis's
I didn't forget about any of those with the exception of maybe Papi Chulo Essay Rios
4:13 Lex "Lugor" ????
Honky Tonk Man was a heel in a few territories, so when WWF/E would have shows there, people remembered and boo'd the heck outta him. WWF/E ignores the wrestlers past, so being a mega heel in a territory didnt' register with them as to why their new babyface is getting boo'd. Honky Tonk Man said it in an interview.
Yeah, who knows what they were thinking for WM 11. They booked a celebrity match as the main event and had it go 12 minutes.
Vince McMahon: if at first you don't succeed, shove it down their throats! Only I know what's best for business! Smackdown karaoke? That's good shit!
Idol Stevens on the Indies was amazing, they just didnt give it much of a chance in WWE.
Rosey wanting to help his community is a real life black stuggle
Bret might be the best bet if looking for IcoPro. He recieved cases of the crap and tried to unload it on his neighbours.
Samoan Gangster Party were supposed to be part of the Terror Squad with Big Pun the Rapper.
Batty Wyndham was awesome as the widow Maker too bad that that got cut short
How about Hulk Hogan's first push as a heel with Classy Freddie Blassie as his manager?
Here before there are scams in the comment section
Surprised he didn’t mention Brodus Clay
They did the exact same thing years later with Roman
Can we get a video grading aew first year
Lex Lugor? Really, if you're going to claim knowledge at least spell names correctly
Papi Chulo was basically a proto godfather
Samoan Gangster Party??
O.k. you got me.
I didn't even know that Rosie had an earlier run. That was all news to me.
Most of us will never forget Shotgun Saturday Night.
Essa Rios was light heavyweight champ and not cruiserweight champ.
rikishi as sultan
I love how the video is about times you forgot about and 1 is Rocky.....is there ANYONE whose forgotten about that?
That really wasn’t the point of that one. The point of there is that people forgot how long that push actually lasted
Love the flying nuns
7:06 1997 or 1987?.
What no mention of OZ?
Poor Lex Luger
The ringmaster
GARY STRYDOM! Hwwwahhhaaoooooooh!
Fun Fact: Barry Windham's sister is Bray Wyatt and Bo Dallas's mother.
A few of these aren't pushes. They are just characters that were played. The Rock as Rocky Maivia was a push. But the Headbangers as the Flying Nuns was a quick, ok we tried it, it didn't work. Next. There was no push

This would also explain the fur coats and fedoras and what have you.
Who remember the nwa cage match where the wild samoans destroyed legion of Doom..Doom put them right over
Widowmaker was a good idea
I believe that ICOPro got rebranded as Metamucil…
Kane literally his whole career.
how about hulk hogan's first run in wwf as a bad guy in 1979-1980, with manager freddie blassie, fighting against Andre the Giant. who remembers that?? (i remember he was a bad guy, had to look up the details)
Hollywood Hogan..he was dreaming tht up before Andre turned heel
That Lex Lugor!
I'd say Isaac Yankem was arguably the worst entry level promo that turned out to be significantly better in a second character
Fake Diesel (same person) was another failed gimmick that would be fixed BIG TIME, when they finally got it right.
Is it just me or Simon has became a mark
Hi Simon
Papi Chulo translates to Father Cool or Daddy Cool.
I love Simon, I'm not even a wrestling fan anymore but I watch Simon all the time cause he's awesome, genius level comedy but I do have to disagree with one thing, in America we don't forget anything about Bam Bam or Lawrence Taylor.
The flying nuns was the headbangers?
Lex Lugor?
Why were those nuns beating up that Minion?
Widow maker was a great gimmick
Pretty sure The Headbangers were around before The Flying Nuns...
I remember them in Memphis and thought they would fit in well in WWE
stock photo slow zoom in, next stock photo slow zoom out and so on. i like the list but found this stile of video very hard to watch
Rocky Maivia gimmick was underrated in my opinion
