    Good luck with Honda fixing this oil dilution problem - Tactic #1 - Honda denies the problem exists Tactic #2 - Honda denies the severity of the problem Tactic #3 - claim that only a few owner experience any issues Tactic #4 - try a Mickey Mouse "software update" Tactic #5 - claim the problem is fixed even though owners complain that even after the fix they still have the same issues. The only recourse is a class action law suit.

      Add #6 - The cabin does not warm up and smells of gasoline, both symptoms of OD. Honda says this is caused by too many short trips, which is effectively blaming the car owner. Is it the car owner's fault if he/she lives close to work or regularly drives the vehicle to the supermarket or to the shopping mall? Shame on you, Honda! I have never owned a Honda and I never will.

      The oil dilution problem is unfixable. I’m so glad I found out about this huge issue before plunking my money down on one. Dodged a bullet on this one. The engine won’t last very long with this issue and the turbo. Honda really created “planned obsolescence” by moving away from the long-lasting CR-V designs prior to the 2017 so they could ultimately make a ton of money by failed CR-Vs. Making something right and to last doesn’t make these companies money.

    My mom bought a CRV 2017 and one day we decided to check the oil and thought that they had put excessive oil on the engine. We took it to the dealer and they said the excess was gasoline. We left the car there and they said called us 2 days later saying they could not fix it. If she would like another CRV or her money back. She did not think twice. This is clearly a vehicle that the engine will not last 200,000. Got her money back and headed directly to Toyota. We got a RAV4. We’ve been with it 2 years has 106,000 only thing changed was battery, tires and brakes. Car still drivers like it’s brand new.

    Oil dilution is my biggest issue, Honda did the software update twice but still not fixed it. If we boycott Honda sales will make Honda think twice for not trying to fix it.

      Good move! The tiny turbo engine, coupled with oil dilution, is the recipe for disaster. I feel bad for those that bought this CR-V without knowing the truth prior. Amazing that Honda threw away their stellar reliability reputation to make quick bucks on this intentionally flawed model.

    Owning a Canadian built 2019 I must say the only concern I share is number 1. I have not had any evidence of OD but I am keeping tags on it. Even at -10C the temperature gauge is already well on its way to normal operating temperature withing 3 to 4km. ( ~2 Miles) The doors on my car feels very solid and the car has much less interior noise when compared to the RAV4. I prefer the high seat (one of my complaints against the RAV4)

    I have a NEW 2019 CRV EX. Works great. Im 6ft 2in and love the support of the seat. Can see where if someone was shorter they may have an issue. And the EX has MANY extras the LX does not have.
    (Hope no oil issues down the road)
    But if your main concern is going from point A to B, then I would suggest the 2019 LX (Non Turbo)and you will not have to worry about oil issues. The 2020,s are ONLY available in turbo. ALL trim levels.
    New for 2020 are CRV Hybrids, I think in all trim levels, not sure if they are turbo or not?

    For your first two issues using a better oil like Amsoil Signature Series 0W-20 will help. Amsoil uses 100% synthetic oil, and their oils will resist blow by from the fuel by up to 2 to 4 times better than most of the Full Synthetic oils on the market. Their oil has displacement resistance between 2400 to 3600 psi depending on the oils weight. Also synthetic oils will heat up more uniformly than petroleum based oils. Basically Synthetic oils displace heat better and petroleum oils act as an insulator.

      I have a 2020 CRV and lvie in Southern California. It has been in the mid 40's in the morning and I have not had the same experience with the engine not warming up. I live a little over a mile from the freeway and by the time I get on the engine is at its normal running temperature (just below the mid point on the scale).
      I drive long distances to and from work (45 miles each way) and checked my oil level and it is in the proper range. I did smell the gasoline when checking the dip stick, but that was after a shorter drive at night... I wanted to see if they smell was still there after a long drive too.
      Hope this helps...

      Confirm 2020 has problems. Got a gas mix problem, starting at 12k miles (after maintenence) to 16k miles. And then by 21k miles the battery die after 3 days not driving with everything off which is weird and had to replace it. Just a few months later the oil and gas problem again!! After a while I research and found out some people had same problem. So I sold it for a rav4 instead for reliability. So sad cus I chose the crv for quieter sound and smoothness for my kids but im jus wasting money for their comfort lol too much problem for me on the 2020 crv. A new car shouldnt have this much problem early on, love the feel but hate the reliability for being new. So far the rav4 drove me almost 20k miles with no problem! Just my experience, it will be diff for everyone!

    Oil dilution problem is annoying for sure but has at least been remedied a bit on the 2020-2021 models IME. Drove my 2020 CRV in mostly freezing weather (in usually short distances) for the better part of 3 months last year and while it did still have a bit of gas leaking through it was much smaller amounts than the 2018s show, and mine evaporated fairly quickly.
    Basically if you live in an area with freezing temperatures for most of the year then you'll need to change the oil a bit more often, not the worst but their response leaves a bad taste in your mouth...

    I would like to add one more. The Honda ELD charging system which is designed to sacrifice battery life for fuel mileage. It works by only charging the battery (around 14 volts at the battery) when the headlights or A/C are on. Otherwise it undercharges the battery (exactly 12.3 volts on mine) to lower the load on the engine. In one summer if you don't use A/C, your battery is toast. Ever wonder why Honda is known for early battery failures?

    I'm in the process of buying a CRV, and the oil dilution problem is a big one on models 2016- all the way to 2019. I own a 2008 accord equipped with a 2.4 liter, and they are solid engines.
    So to avoid the problem, I'll stay with the one I found at a Honda dealership 2014 CRV EX-L with a 2.4 liter and not equipped with a CVT transmission but has a 5spd real automatic transmission. By far, it's a much better Honda.

    Great video, I have a 2018 and I have the heat issue, I don't know if I have the oil dilution issue or not. We also have issues with the blue tooth and also we have issues with poor handling on snowy/icy roads. We came from a Ford Escape, I was led to believe that the CRV was the best thing since sliced bread but it's anything but. I have just over one year remaining on my lease and I will be going back to an Escape or a Nissan Rogue.

    • @breakerbroke23
      @breakerbroke23  4 роки тому +2

      Yes the heat issue is a problem..BUT I have found that driving the CRV a few miles without turning on the heater fan lets the vehicle get up to temperature faster. Try it. As far as the Ford and Nissan, IMHO no way would I get the Rogue, they are not the quality that Nissan used to be. The Ford, maybe okay. But if you lease you more than likely wont see any mechanical issues. (the next owner will). As far as the BT goes, mine works well but is a bit older chipset and may have some problems working with some devices. Honestly, I didn't buy the car for the media electronics. The CRV is a great vehicle and as soon as Honda dumps the GDI engine we will get another one.
      RIP Nissan :(

    • @s.j.5850

      It could be that the quality control on the later model CRVs has slipped since the earlier models. I have a 2011 CRV (bought new) and the only problems I've had so far was a worn out anti-sway bar link, and a battery that quit before it's time even though it showed 12.6v on my handheld volt meter.

    Oil issue sucks for sure. I change my oil more frequently beyond this. The heat is almost nonexistent and takes a long time to get the car warm. Even running with remote start for 20 min it’s still cold. The other this is the collision avoidance, it slams the brakes if someone slows down to turn in front of me, I’m close but not that close that I could have a collision, and almost got rear ended several times because of this. Sometimes the windows Won’t work and you have to mash the switch a bunch before they move… the stereo screen is black and I cannot control the radio, have to turn the car off and back on again. A bunch of little bugs….. but it’s got 140 thousand on it and haven’t done anything but replace the brake pads. Honda messed up, but it’s not all bad

    I just bought a 2019 Honda CR-V EX. My complaint is how noisy the actual shifter knob is. It clunks when moving it to any gear or back to park. It has nothing to do with the transmission, which is all I can find online. It’s strictly the handle.

    I have also noticed on my 2018 CRV the problem with the temp gauge as the vehicle has gotten older. Should I be worried if I drive 5 miles and no red line on the temp gauge yet?

    • @breakerbroke23
      @breakerbroke23  3 роки тому +2

      I would not worry about the temp being low at first. Mine has done this since day one. 40+K miles later all is still fine. Back a few winters ago I learned to not turn on the heater fan until the temp gauge goes up a bit. The air going through the heater core cools down the motor. It acts like another radiator. :)

    I’ve noticed the door being a bit cheap and having that sound when it closes but some of the other problems I haven’t had. So I have noticed it takes a while to warm up. My two cars are a 2018 CRV and a 2002 ford Taurus. My Taurus takes about five minutes for the thermostat needle to move and for the rpm’s to drop. I tested it and it takes over 20 minutes for the CRV to do that and I’m not the biggest fan of that. It also has auto start which can get around that, which I use anyway because it’s always super cold where I live. Anyway another problem to mention which seems to be with recent Hondas is their main body module failures. There are tons of them and they refuse to replace most as it’s a huge part of the chip shortage. I got mine replaced at a dealership and he personally went in a renewed my warranty just so it could get replaced as he felt it should’ve been a recall. I got lucky as the factory couldn’t make one, but the manager at the dealership found one from a pick and pull in a different state. It’s worked fine ever since. With all that being said it is an amazing car. I’ve kept up on all maintenance and I actually did a sound check with a brand new 2023 CRV as they use the same drive train and it sounds exactly the same, with my CRV having about 125.000 miles. There are definitely some complaints and some failures but not with all. The two most concerning are the dilution and main body module, so if you don’t have those problems you should be golden!

    I am wondering why only CRV has this problem everyone talking about, while the same engine used for Accord and Civic. And, 2.0l turbo is no issue Scotty said that. I really like how honda drive but I don't want to get caught this issue. Please someone explain why.

    • @breakerbroke23
      @breakerbroke23  3 роки тому +1

      The 1.5 is GDI, that is the problem and its not just Honda. Scotty says there is a new engine oil to help this problem, I think the oil allows the fuel to burn off quicker. • @breakerbroke23
      @breakerbroke23  4 роки тому +1

      This video may have come off a bit harsh... I do however like the CRV in many ways. BUT If you live in a cold climate you may not like the little idiosyncrasies like rear windows squeak when you roll them up, in the summer, in 20-30 degree temps it takes about 5-7 miles of driving to warm up and when you get the car up to normal temperature and just let it sit and idle for about 5 min (like when I go to get my better half from work) the temp gauge drops to cold like a rock. Oil dilution may or may not be happening, I cant really tell.
      The car gets great gas mileage, peppy, AWD works very well in the Utah snow, rear leg room is awesome and at almost 3yrs old and 37,000 miles I have not had one problem.
      I plan owning this vehicle for a few more years or 60K. And yes I do think they are a good value, compared to Nissan, ford and the rest. Toyota's are great (maybe even a tad better) but did not have the rear leg room I needed.
      Cheers.

    I’ve got a 2019 CR-V Touring Model. Built quality & materials are the same. I’ve notice that there is a lot of cosmetic panels that are glued on to the interiors. Noise levels are the same. Exterior lights are LED’s on the Touring. Interior dome lights are not. The ground height clearance needs 2”-3” increase. Door panels are constantly rubbing shrubs or hill side areas. The black outside bottom door panels need a much better attachment. The bottom ends are glued. While the top side has plastic fasten clips. With respect to the oil dilution issue. Every owner needs to start measuring the amount of oil that is draining from there vehicles. I’ve noticed that there is oil on both my tail muffler pipes. I believe that it is happening only when the engine is cold. It’s not a lot of oil. However, it shouldn’t have any oil on the tail pipe. The dealerships empty the oil into a metal bucket. They do not measure it. By the time owners realize it the issue will be severe enough to cause you to look for a new vehicle.

These are all things you could easily have spotted on your first testdrive before buying the car but instead you went ahead and bought it anyway causse it was a good deal and now you complain....common, thats really sad innit? The oil dillution is another weird story that only appears to happen in the states and canada....here in europe theres no such problem with these engines....maybe its the crappy gas you people use? Or the way you people drive? i have no idea but honestly here in Europe we dont seem to have any issues with these engines

    I have a 2018 Touring CRV with just under 20,000 miles on it. Issue #1 is mysterious oil leakage on TOP of the engine. Even on TOP of the intake. There is some oil leaked on parts lower but not as bad as the oil that at some point managed to leak on TOP like that. There is no oil puddle in my driveway at all. I am taking it in to the dealer first thing in the morning.
    Issue#2-Rough engine idle. It does not do it all the time but it still does it a lot. The little digital tach needle bounces back and forth at idle when it happens. Then somehow it idles fine. I do not get it. Luckily Honda extended my warranty to 6 years or 60,000 miles up from 3 years 30,000 miles. It was the whole oil dilution debate that was apparently common that made Honda do this.
    Issue #3. My Touring came with a decent map for the navigation feature. It needs to be updated somehow ASAP. The navigation is mapping me down roads that are no longer there.
    Issue #4-The Hondalink feature that connects to your smartphone. I cannot get mine to connect to my newer iphone correctly. It managed to connect once. It showed what the mileage was and miles since last oil change. This is likely due to me not being a tech guy but it is annoying. No matter how many times I follow the directions of connecting my Hondalink to my smartphone it just wont work.
    Issue #5-The Hankook GT tires that the CRV comes with are awful whenever the road is wet. They are great as long as the road is dry. Attempting to get the advertised 60,000 miles out of them but doubt they will get that far before I need to get new tires.
    What I DO like about my 2018 CRV Touring. #1 this gen CRV are freaking BEAUTIFUL inside and out. Honda really hit an aesthetic home run with this gen CRV. If you look carefully at other modern CUV's you can kind of see how they are trying to make their CUV look as good looking as these new CRV's.
    #2-The tiny 1.5T engine can really get up and go. It just runs better off of 93+ octane gas.
    #3 the BACK SEATS are AWESOME. LOTS of room.
    #4-I have gotten an incredible 49.5 MPG on the highway before.
    #5 the automatic rear hatch activated by just passing your foot under the middle of the rear bumper is something every car or CUV should have.

    • @bryanmchugh1307
      @bryanmchugh1307 2 роки тому +1

      @@haylieathome The 1.5T is very sensitive. I found the biggest cause of the vibration is simply the engine oil getting worn down. I took it in for an oil change and the rough idle vanished for a couple thousand miles. Since my above post I have installed a K&N high flow air filter. The difference is immediate and startling. A bit more power at speed and I scored a stunning 54 MPG on the Capital Beltway with it. Gets a touch better gas mileage.

    ATG reminds all owners to beware that Honda might say, "The fuel is vaporized and consumed in the combustion process."
    In simple term you are screwed and that your engine will soon be needing a replacement.
    Since all gasoline has about 10% junk of corn & you don't drive as much, the pistons/seal rings can't eat the corn and not heating enough to burn all the corn from the top engine.
    Honda knew they have this problem just as well as their SRS system (airbags/seatbelts), but they will not admit them.
