    Hi Christine, I'm thankfully now learning how to strengthen and move safely within my limits, so thank you for helping with that :) You said seated twists can be unproductive especially twisting away from/leaning into your curve, can I do gentle twists the other way? My thoracic curve curves toward the right side, so could I gently twist to face that side instead? Thank you for your wonderful work!

    Thank you for sharing your knowledge 🤍🧘. At 7:13 when discussing seated twists would torque on the concave side be beneficial. I think this pose would be great for derotation . I'm new to yoga and unsure about figuring out which side would work for each movement . But wouldn't that give space to the concave side and pull the rib hump in? 🤔

    • @MoveWithScoliosis
      @MoveWithScoliosis  4 роки тому +1

      yes but it depends! First of all make sure you can lengthen before you twist. Then twist from the convex part of the spine without collapsing into the concave part. There are other ways to twist rather than the twist I'm showing which is really not one of my favourites for scoliosis.

      @@MoveWithScoliosis I came back to rewatch this video after you replied to my comment. The warning about compressing your spine with certain poses really jumped out to me because a compression fracture at L3 was found on my x-ray. In my eagerness to progress I was pushing myself to accomplish poses I saw that were supposedly for beginners. I never thought about my rotation and the unique situation it presents when practicing yoga. Thank you for bringing awareness to it. From now on I will only be practicing yoga with your videos.

      @erinhigginbotham8067 2 роки тому +1

      Don't think of it as a limitation. That will dampen your spirits so quickly. Think of it more as a way to protect yourself. Our curved spines are already so stressed. We must learn to adjust our practice to accommodate instead of limit.

    • @MoveWithScoliosis
      @MoveWithScoliosis  2 роки тому

      beautifully said. If your curve is mild and you're strong in general these poses might not give you any problems! It's about knowing what is going on for you and what you can do to adjust your practice as Erin said...

    • @MoveWithScoliosis

    You said that headstands are not allowed for scoliosis. Does that mean you shouldn't do other similar exercises also. I mean something like a pike pushups. Also you said twists are also not good. What about the chair pose. In that you fold your hands and twist on both sides.

      Shakira CM great question! Anything from 10 degrees and above is classified as scoliosis but the more severe your scoliosis and the rotation is the more mindful you would want to be in extreme movements. It comes back to how you feel in your individual body and knowing what effect each pose has on your spine
