For anyone considering this car, I have just purchased the 1.5 L manual...and it is FUN! If I take the Eco mode off, she's quick off the line or going down an entrance ramp. Very responsive in the corners. As for fuel efficiency, when on the highway with eco mode on, I'm avg about 45 mpg!! I love this car 😍

Great review on a great car. I did extensive research on these two cars and the others in this class. I also read every car magazine and watched every UA-cam video I could find that compared all the 2018 family sedans. Following all of that I came to an educated and informed conclusion - I bought a 2018 Accord Hybrid Touring (in Modern Steel), and LOVE it. The engine is smooth, it is plenty powerful when needed (I unintentionally smoked the tires pulling out into traffic), the eCVT is smooth and always ready, and this car is quiet. However, I will say that the 47/47/47 mpg rating is not accurate. I recently got 55.7 mpg city mpg. And I average in the HIGH 40s and low 50s when combined. It has so much technology. Everyday I'm learning new things it can do. This is a FANTASTIC car. Great looks (MANY compliments on the color and the car's looks from friends and strangers), superb quality and a quiet and luxurious ride. And it's a FUN car to drive. I may have to add fuel stabilizer to the gas tank since I go so long before filling up.

Yes!!! The ‘regular unleaded fuel’ note is really big as it relates to this car. I’m experiencing it first hand. Winning.
Also, the ‘provided you’re not auditioning for the next role in the Fast and the Furious,’ line is so true. I’ve found that a little gas goes a long way with this car. Think light... This car is not for the lead footed...but it can move when you need it to. (Which doesn’t require murdering the gas pedal) 🤔 Drive like a speed demon & you’ll be cussin’ every time you pull up to a gas station. LMBO! 🤣

I own a 2019 sport 2.0t 6mt and I concur that the manual is a total blast to drive. Mine is san marino red. I routinely beat cars off the line that are left dazed and confused. I get a kick out of it every time. 1st gear has some wheel hop but 2nd and 3rd pull like a rocket.

Great discussion and update! I went through a similar decision making process (said prooocess candian style) here south of the border (N.E. US.) comparing whether to go turbo vs. N/A in a mid-size sedan. I went with a 2017.5 Mazda6 Touring with the proven 2.5L N/A and manual back right when the new 2018 Camry and Accords were coming out. I avoided 1st year model bugs and while I liked the Toyota N/A engine offerings but they too were all new and only available coupled with an automatic. I'm with you on the Accord with the 2.0T and 6 speed manual, which wasn't available when I bought in November plus they are ~$6k more here than the Mazda6 Touring offering. I would have loved the extra hp and new platform of the Accord 2.0t Sport, but I'm good with my decision to date. Good decision making everyone.

If you can afford it, I'd splurge for the 2.0T. The 1.5T is a fine engine, but the fact it is matched to a CVT makes me question the long term reliability. I much prefer the 10spd auto used on the 2.0T, and knowing that the engine block is derived from the Civic Type R, the 252hp rating means it is quite detuned and therefore have lots of overhead - the engine is relatively understressed while the 1.5T is making 192hp vs. the Civic at 178hp & the Sport hatch at 182hp, meaning it is at a higher pressure which may cause issues in the long run.

Especially since most people are buying two cars now in days, One for yourself and one for the wife and kids. You need watch how you spend your money now days. Would I like the bigger engine, of course I would, but you need to be realistic on how you spend your money. You're going to need a bigger down payment, pay more money on your monthly payments, and you're going to be spending more money on gas because you got the bigger engine. If you don't drive around a lot then that's great but if you do drive around a lot you're going to feel that in your pocket.

@@lordsknight4516 right but your original post didnt make all those good points you said you're paying over 30k for just a .5l engine which was over simplistic, also all the 2.0 trims have more features trim vs trim level so there is still a good but of value I think in getting the 2.0 trims especially if you can find or haggle a good deal, the declining sales is making actual bargaining a reality these days.

My 2014 Accord V6 coupe with a 6 speed auto routinely gets about 10 Lt/100 km in the city, and about 6.5-6.2 on the highway, although I have seen as good as 5.5 on a 900 km trip. I live in eastern BC, so this is all mountain roads, too. So while the 2.0 turbo actually sounds like a pretty good engine, and the idea of dropping a hundred or so kilos off the front end would be wonderful, I think I'll keep my big V6. (oh, and I would have loved the manual - too bad Honda sets its manuals up in such a way as to create a 10-15 percent penalty in fuel economy). At least they gave me paddle shifters.

I really wanted the 10 speed tranny on the Honda but the Camry V6 does everything better using only an 8 speed tranny. I’ve had 4 Camry V6s as well! They’re both great cars! I’m an older guy and I seldom drive over 60 - 65 mph. A real conservative driver. So on the V6s I can get OVER 40 MPG on the highway! No exaggeration!

At first I was gonna get the 2.0 sport accord since I like the new interior and how it has Apple car play.I previously owned a 2017 accord but sadly it got totaled. When I first saw the new redesign I was not a big fan of it but after a while the sport designed grew on me mostly because of the rims and spoiler.I driven both Honda and Toyota but at the end of the day I bought the Camry Xse for 27k.I love the design and I prefer the traditional gauges instead of electronic one in the accord.Lack of CarPlay upsets me but I heard rumors that Toyota should be releasing an update for the 2018 models since the 2019 Camry will be getting CarPlay. The 4 cylinder model is perfect for me and it’s gives me the extra power that I need. One of the biggest reason of why I didn’t buy the accord is mostly bc of turbo.I prefer naturally aspirated engine over turbos.Turbos don’t last long and after 100k miles they will start giving u problems. Also the new Toyota looks better in my opinion and gives more a sportier look with the black rims with the silver accents. Also I wish Honda would give us a better gear selector since I hate the buttons cause I can accidentally drop some water and mess it up.I am happy with my purchase just wish Apple car play was in the car.

I'm in between on the CVT, I owned a civic with one that was absolutely atrocious. It was always at redline when you accelerated, didn't get much pep when trying to speed up to merge or pass (which gave me a few unsafe occurrences) and didn't improve economy over their previous automatic (for me at least). However, I have an accord with the CVT and I have no problems with that transmission. Its smooth and shift like a regular auto, where if the fact sheet didn't say it was a CVT I'd have never known. Additionally, I can get up to 40 mpg combined with a bit of conscious driving, way more than I could ever manage in a civic. I'm one of the 5 percent of those Canadians. I test drove the 2.0T and the 10-speed. It was nice even with the weird alphabet selector buttons, but the turbo delay and rubber band effect with the 10-speed make it feel a bit more unpredictable when transitioning into power than I'd like. I know the 0 to 60 times on the auto are better, but magazine racing is best for magazines. Even though it doesn't have a pull handle parking brake any more I'd still rather have a manual in the snow with proper winter tires than an auto with a bunch of algorithms trying to figure out how to best drive it for me. Also Honda makes really good manuals with low clutch effort and an easy engagement.
