I think a Polo style shirt is also a men's wear that has stood the test of time. It's a staple in closet. Very versatile. Can be worn with a shorts or pants. Both tucked in or outside.
Polo shirts, though, tend to show up every wobble and man boob on the older guy. especially block colour. You want a patterned one of some sort to draw your eye away from those unsightly curves.
I have grown to love your style and videos John. I love your outfits and intend to copy them as I already have some of the clothes from a makeover I had in London earlier in the year. You’re fast becoming my number one man on here for fashion and clothing combinations. Thanks for all your effort my friend, I really appreciate it. 👍😎🇮🇪🇬🇧
Am 5’5 guy and I have tried Peter Manning clothes before and he’s great! This stuff fits really well! Thanks for sharing. Very simple yet great information and video.
Nice detailing on the jacket with top and bottom zippers as classics often offer increased function as well. Patterned button downs are perfect for eating out when wait staff may inadvertently splash today's special. These are truly investment pieces and welcome additions to a well-curated closet.
Great to see the Harrington listed. Growing up as a young Mod in the UK in the early 1980s, my fledgling style included a beige Harrington with chequered lining that I wore pretty much to destruction. I would also suggest that Chelsea boots would make a great addition to the list of must-have timeless classics. They go with jeans/pants/chinos and they are always on point.
Another great video. I tend to play with prints and patterns in the warmer months and keep it classic and stylish in the fall and winter. I have totally rocked the light weight v necks in the fall but tend to lean more to cable knit cardigans in the winter
All those clothing items are part of my regular wardrobe. Thank you for your nice presentation!!! Some months ago I asked you about ideas for shorter men, and Peter Manning has some great ideas!!!
One thing I remember my dad saying. Style never goes out of fashion . The item of clothing that I am surprised that wasn't mentioned is the Sports Jacket. I collect these like women collect shoes and they are very versatile and can be worn on most occasions . They never go out of fashion. Great vid.
Great video John. It is great to know certain things can be purchased without fear that they will be out of style within a short time. I love the partnership with PeterManning and hope you can do more in the future.
I despise tight fitting everything, the latest trend. Fortunately, it hasn’t afflicted my favorite trousers, classic, top-quality corduroy. Velvety soft, comfortable, easy-care, and long-lasting. Because my overall length is 1” less than what’s available, I enjoy a sense of accomplishment by expertly hemming them myself in a way that outlasts the machine serge stitching done by tailors. A leather jacket is by far the most versatile kind you can own. It looks rich, smells rich, conforms over time, and ages well. Apply a leather conditioner once or twice a year and enjoy!
Thanks to you John, I've discovered a whole new style which I love.........and I've had so many compliments from friends and family. I now have white and black leather sneakers and some lovely new chinos. I look forward to all of your upcoming videos. Best wishes from Adelaide, Australia!
Like always right on point with style. You never fail to hit the nail on the head on fashion advice. I own a variation of all you have mentioned as classics in my closet. Although my choice in color and style may differ, that’s what makes my personal style my own.
Thank you for the Peter Manning reference, I have a hoodie and a field jacket from them. Although they are pricey, the fit is great especially since I am 5'5 tall and with their size chart, I wear a 3. Who says men our age ( turning 59 next month) can not look stylish.
very, very nice, john. a great many of these, i have already -- who knew??!! i am glad i never through anything away. you are right about the stretch denim fabrics. very comfortable and they do look nice. thanks again.
Another great video! I’m happy to say I have all those pieces except the Harrington jacket. I’m more of a bomber jacket fan, but I may have to pick up a Harrington some day.
Hi there John. Loved the way you showed us How to make use of classy pieces. This is definetely the style I appreciate! I Just can't wait for thee next video.. Your Channel is a must!!!
Great video, I agree the classics never die. I find Loakes to be a smart comfortable option, particularly the Chelsea boot (or the George boot if one can get them). I love chinos, I wear them all the time, boring I know. Thank you for your effort!
Wanted to say thank you for the reminder of the classics along with great tips and recommendations. Heading out tomorrow to hopefully find some clothes that will suit me. With me luck....
Great video! Yes, the classics its where its at but in the past it tend to look a bit dowdy. However by using the leather sneakers(brown or black)it gives it a new take.
Made my first purchase of classic fit dark indigo jeans from PMNYC a few months ago and loved the fit. Just purchased the stretch version of the same pair and they are sooooo much more comfortable. Hope to purchase some tops and jackets from them in the near future. Keep up the great work! I always look forward to your videos.
Hard to find Jon, Try 6'-1" 420lbs broad shoulders and built like a linebacker. Thanks for the cool looks though. I try to fallow a lot of your heavyset looks. I also wear winter colors so dark colors look good on me. a pop of color is helpful to lessen the threatening demeanor I have in a room. Love the fashion tips and men's life advice keep it coming.
All good points that i employ! I'm shorter with a small chest and finding classic shirts that fit is impossible. A men's small is huge on me. So, I've gone to wearing Boys XL shirts, esp Polo--classic American shirts that fit! Unfortunately, my legs are too big for boys pants. Keep up the great work.
Hi John, another excellent video! Really good advice regarding the classic look. I'm way conservative with the brown shoes. I only wear browns with browns or khakis, but that's just me. I did just get my first two Anson belts and am very happy with them, so thank you for that!
Hi great video, one little problem I have Levi jeans with stretch fabric and as they get older they lose their fit, even to the point believe it or not when I sneezed they fell down 😂 good job I was at home.
Very nice overview of some classic menswear. I’m 5’ 9’ as well, however; unlike you, i have a few extra pounds I need to lose. I do find that slacks with a little bit of stretch material help with the fit and comfort of the pants. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and I enjoyed watching another one of your great videos. Keep up the good work! Ed
We are same hieght and weight, i pretty much wear the clothes mentioned other than the shoes you are wearing at the end of this vid, love that look and wondering if could you share.
Another great video John. Every look is really on point. Just wondering the make of the tan/light brown sneakers you have in a few of the looks? Are they greats as well?
Thanks John, How do you keep your shoes looking brand new? I know you have a video on how you clean your shoes. My shoes still look worn. LOL.. Great video.
John, Just as a heads up to you and your followers, if you purchase from Peter Manning using your link and want to return items, they will only do an exchange or store credit since it was technically "on sale". In my case, I spent over $400 and the style of their clothing was not right for my body type. The rise on the jeans is very short and the largest size jacket (4x) is equal to about a medium. I called and they made an exception since I was a first time buyer, but they were not happy about it. Not a good online experience. Thanks for the video though and always great information.
WHAT ARE THOSE BLACK KICKS?!?! Daaaamn, bra. Gotta get some. Brown kicks are nice, too, but the profile on the black ones are sick. Oh, wait, you did a vid about some kicks... are these them?
@@40OverFashion I was reading some other comments at lunch on our office computer and I see I'm not the only one that likes that cardigan. It's too bad it isn't available anymore. Hey John. Other than Peter Manning who is your go-to for dark slim fit jeans? Also, I do not own Chinos but thinking about purchasing....any brand recommendations? On another note, love the classic jazz.
Hello OVER 40 FASHION! I have a question I often hear Style reviewers use the word "TROUSERS" and they tend to be referring to a thicker material or fabric. Is this the case? What can we think of when you guys say "TROUSERS" besides thinking of pants? Thanks!
hay fashion guru you are smart.. you look good when u walk like a real model in real life. please do a video in walking and posture in style for man over 40 .. thanks
Great video but shipping from Peter Manning to the UK is £43, that is definitely a rip off since it only costs £15 to send 2 Kilos to the States from the UK
The navy sweater paired with the dark wash jeans, makes you look like a giant purple eggplant, or a nurse wearing matching scrubs. Try more of a contrast, like A kelly green, or orange sweater but the dark wash jeans, you can still wear a navy sweater, pair with those lighter jeans, tan or olive khakis
You missed one of my favorite classics, pair of classic Khakis, plain or pleated with a short or long sleeve blue chambray shirt. A pair of classic loafers or Sperrys, set it off with a nice coordinating watch with a related tan/navy NATO band, your set. Fashion over 70
Great job. I have tried Peter Manning, but unfortunately, the clothes did not fit me well: the waist on the jeans was way too high, and the fit was too big and baggy. I'm 5'8" 140 pounds.
Which jeans did you try? I'm 5'6" and 120 lbs, and the Stretch Skinny fit me perfectly (better than any other brand). You might have tried the classic fit?
@@BrockMcGoff I tried the PMNYC Jeans - Dark Indigo Wash - 29W x 28L 2928. The waist was 2-3 inches too large; the length was 3-4 inches too long; and the seat was baggy. I emailed customer service about the issues but was offered no advice, so I simply returned the jeans.
@@BrockMcGoff I think they were the slim fit, definitely not the classic. Based on the pair I had received, I wouldn't even know what size to order. If a 29 waist was 2-3 inches too large, what should I try?
Scott D. If you’re 5’8” and 140 lbs, the 29x28 should not have been too big on you. But you could try a 28x27 (or 26) and possibly go down to the skinny fit.
