It also helps to find a great pair of jeans for your body type. I’ve struggled with that lately but ended up on a pair of J.Crew 770, which is their modern straight fit. Slim but not tight, super comfortable. Fits this 45-year-old really well. I have been trying to step it up more so I’ve been wearing chinos a lot lately, but I will never be able to quit the humble, reliable blue jeans
Just picked up a fresh pair of brown Chelsea's and brown dress shoes (which I've never owned since viewing your channel John...keep up the good content....dark gray jeans are on the list and a bunch of light knit sweaters (never worn before)
Jeans look great dressed up with a nice shirt and jacket. I like your blue check sportscoat w the jeans. Nice balance of dressy and casual. Better than just a t shirt. Plus, now with the colder weather, a necessity. Following your style advice.
I never thought of matching my sock colour to my pants or jeans. It just never dawned on me. I just go full-on black for all socks and underwear. And I love brogues. I own several pair myself. I think I may need some new socks! Thanks! Edit: That sports jacket though. The 70's called and want their clothes back. That's the kind of sports jacket that will look this season but when you go back and look at this you will be like "Ew! What was I thinking". I think it's hideous and is a flash-in-the-pan style. Most everything else was nice. Terra cotta pants might be okay for a season but not longer. I prefer the standard color palettes so that I get more longevity out of my clothing. If I had money to burn, sure, I would buy trendy clothes that look great for one season. Most of the combos were really good so thanks for all the good ideas.
Just started watching this morning and subscribed One thing for me is shirt length, I think too many guys tuck everything and it is generally not a good look unless long sleeve. That’s just me. I started buying a new line of clothing 2 years ago called Untuckit. I wasn’t sure if I would like the shirts, after a couple returns I have found my perfect fit and the shirt length Is perfect for wearing untucked
What brand are those jeans? I’m in my 50s and as much as I battle, my body shape has changed. Lately, I’ve been having trouble finding jeans that are still stylish, fit comfortably and are age appropriate.
Unfortunately, they’re just no longer in style. And because of that, they can make older guys look outdated, and like they’re trying too hard to hold onto their youth. Sorry, just my $.02
Since someone granted us the warrant to wear rolled up shirt sleeves in every casual situation, why would I need polo shirts? Rolled up sleeves with a dress shirt hit the trifecta: you get the effect of a polo, women evidently like rolled up sleeves, and you have more flexibility, particularly with a blazer or sport coat. Over my own druthers against jeans I have bought the requisite three pairs: medium blue, dark blue, and gray. Dress shirts work fine. Polos, unless you are at your home or close neighborss’, seem for the under 40 set. As much polo as King Charles played, I never saw him in a polo shirt if it was not playing polo. Also a Tshirt for a grown, 40 year old man when he is not in his garage working on a car or maybe in his yard: no way. Maybe in LA, that works. In Dallas, that is trying too hard to look young.
dark blue jeans are the best option , iven as they age and fade will still look good ,and stain don t show as much on them , black will fade badly or become redish from sun , white and gray will stain very fast , and become unwearable ,
It’s unfortunate that you only focused on the ad read and not the rest of the styling information. By the way, socks are still an important part of a wardrobe.
@40OverFashion I know that.. but i was expecting more information about the jeans but it was more about the paid promotion of socks.Though i have no problem with that also. jst said what i felt.
Im 29, a new father and i just want to say your channel is my education to dressing more mature and presentable. Thank you!
Good for you my man!! We as men undervalue the importance of presenting ourselves the best way possible!
Keep up the great work Alex! Thanks for watching!
To dress for success used to be a thing. We need to bring it back.

Thanks for the brand suggestion!
I’m not gonna lie, dark jeans and black shoes/boots is the look. Lighter jeans with brown belt/boots are a more casual, yet put together look
Also, get a travel blazer (ex. Bluffworks) in dark & light grey, as well as navy
My fave jean as a 50 YO is the AE Slim Straight Air Flex in blueblack. They look good with anything! Thanks for all you do for us John!
Appreciate that! I'm glad you found a brand that works for you!
Thanks for the tips. With the Fall weather setting in, I am using boots more often and sweaters are definitely a daily part of my look.
Sounds great! Enjoy the season.
I have a burnt orange pair of jeans and never thought to wear it with blue but I love the outfit you put together. Thanks.
Love that color combination!
Great color combinations and showing them. You’re killing it John.
Thanks for the kind words!

Great choices!

Yep! UntuckIt does a great job!
Great episode, John‼️💥 As an older, yet fit man, it’s good to keep, in touch with current styles. 🎉
Absolutely!

Great looks - thanx for sharing.
My pleasure!
Great content as ever !! Thanks 👍
Appreciate it!
Yes, always great helpful information… thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
One word 'brilliant'.
Appreciate you!
Another excellent video sir. I am curious about your opinion on moisture wicking style polos, would you consider these shirts as stylish or no?
I generally prefer traditional fabrics, but I do own a few pair of synthetic blends, and I do wear them on occasion.
@@40OverFashion Thank you sir and I am looking forward to my new socks.
Great content!
Thank you!
Nice video
Appreciate you watching!
really liked the sweaters and brown suede jacket you had. is there a link or can you point me in the direction of purchasing those same items.
Time stamps?
Great info on the jeans. But I must ask you where did you get the brown suede jacket? Must have.
It’s from The Jacket Maker.
Great info.👊🏻
Thank you!
What brand are those jeans? I’m in my 50s and as much as I battle, my body shape has changed. Lately, I’ve been having trouble finding jeans that are still stylish, fit comfortably and are age appropriate.
These are a mix of AG, Revtown, Express, American Eagle.
@@40OverFashion great content. Where did you find the terracotta jeans?
Hey John so what color socks are you wearing with the off white jeans? White? Gray?
Generally gray or tan.
Great video! What fit are your jeans, slim or straight? Thanks in advance!
Slim fit
Please help me how to wear waistcoat or basket with shirts??
Can we style only basket/waistcoat only with shirts?? I mean without blazer and coat
Agree with all the above however I would rather wear boots and shoes, bag the sneakers
I really enjoy your channel. Thank you, keep up the good work.
Thanks for watching!
Great video John!!!
Appreciate that!
Hi John
What’s your thoughts on boot cut jeans for older guys , does it look ok ?
Unfortunately, they’re just no longer in style. And because of that, they can make older guys look outdated, and like they’re trying too hard to hold onto their youth. Sorry, just my $.02
It took me a while but I agree, thanks
John, what brand of T-shirts do you suggest?? Looking for a decent quality shirt with a little stretch that isn't 50 bucks.
Great question. I don’t really buy them often, but I have a mix from The Gap, Cuts & Weston Bouchér.
Love subject thanks as always #Legend
Thank you!
Where did he get the terracotta jeans?
I got them a few years ago from Express.
2nd from Gulmarg Kashmir.
Welcome to the gun show! 🦾
Ha! I need to work a lot harder if I want to catch up with you!
What sweater is the blue one at 6:55 in the video?
It’s the slim sweater from Weston Bouchér.
What size you wearing?
Forget the jeans; where did you get that shirt?
The one I’m wearing in the video is probably 60 years old from Nordstrom men’s shop. Sorry, I don’t have a link to it.
Love the grayish navy blue cardigan at 5:25. What's the brand? Thank you!
It’s the cable knit cardigan from John Henric.
Basically you've stolen my wardrobe 😂
Haha!

Make sure those jeans fit dont puddle and aren’t too tight
Totally agree!
It doesn't take much to elevate a pair of jeans. Especially for the guys who say dressing well is not comfortable.
1st
Thank you!
How about over 50to 60
50 and 60 are over 40 so..
Everything I talk about still applies! :)
If the jeans are that old, you should probably throw them away.
I thought the vedio was about the jeans..But was more about socks😅
It’s unfortunate that you only focused on the ad read and not the rest of the styling information. By the way, socks are still an important part of a wardrobe.

Sorry but white pants or jeans look geh.
Sorry you feel that way
Not everything he shares will resonate with everyone. Just take what you like, apply it to yourself, and disregard the rest.
If true white jeans is too much, try off-white. Or a very light color. Push your comfort zone.🙂
@@alfacentauri3686 That's another option.
